And it was told
king Solomon that
Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.
It was reported to
King Solomon: “
Joab has fled to the tent of the LORD and is now beside the altar.” So Solomon sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go, strike him down!”
And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him, Thus saith the
king, Come forth. And he said,
Nay; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the
king word again, saying, Thus said
Joab, and thus he answered me.
And Benaiah entered the tent of the LORD and said to
Joab, “The
king says, ‘Come out!’” But
Joab replied, “No, I will die here.” So Benaiah relayed the message to the
king, saying, “This is how
Joab answered me.”
And the
king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and
bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which
Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
And the
king replied, “Do just as he says. Strike him down and
bury him, and so remove from me and from the house of my father the innocent blood that
Joab shed.
And the
king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: and
Zadok the priest did the
king put in the room of
Abiathar.
And the
king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in
Joab’s place over the army, and he appointed
Zadok the priest in
Abiathar’s place.
And the
king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any
whither.
Then the
king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for
yourself in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go
anywhere else.
And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
“The sentence is fair,” Shimei replied. “Your servant will do as my lord the king has spoken.” And Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.
And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah
king of
Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in
Gath.
After three years, however, two of Shimei’s slaves ran away to Achish son of
Maacah,
king of
Gath. And Shimei was told, “Look, your slaves are in
Gath.”
And the
king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to
swear by the LORD, and
protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any
whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
the
king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you
swear by the LORD and
warn you, ‘On the day you leave and go elsewhere, know for sure that you will die’? And you told me, ‘The sentence is fair; I will
comply.’
The
king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou
didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;
The king also said, “You know in your heart all the evil that you did to my father David. Therefore the LORD will bring your evil back upon your head.
And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.
But
King Solomon will be blessed and David’s throne will remain secure before the LORD
forever.”
So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down, and he died. Thus the kingdom was firmly established in the hand of Solomon.
And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
Later, Solomon formed an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. Solomon brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his palace and the house of the LORD, as well as the wall around Jerusalem.
And the
king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
Now the
king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar there.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
Moreover, I will give you what you did not request—both riches and honor—so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal.
Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
At that time two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him.
And the other woman said,
Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the
king.
“No,” said the other woman, “the living one is my son and the dead one is your son.” But the first woman insisted, “No, the dead one is yours and the living one is mine.” So they
argued before the
king.
Then said the
king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith,
Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
Then the king replied, “This woman says, ‘My son is alive and yours is dead,’ but that woman says, ‘No, your son is dead and mine is alive.’”
And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
The king continued, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought him a sword,
And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
and the king declared, “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.”
Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the
king, for her
bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise
slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
Then the woman whose son was alive spoke to the
king because she
yearned with
compassion for her son. “Please, my lord,” she said, “give her the living
baby. Do not kill him!” But the other woman said, “He will be neither mine nor yours. Cut him in two!”
Then the
king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise
slay it: she is the mother thereof.
Then the
king gave his ruling: “Give the living
baby to the first woman. By no means should you kill him; she is his mother.”
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
When all Israel heard of the judgment the
king had given, they stood in
awe of him, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to
administer justice.
So king Solomon was king over all Israel.
So King Solomon ruled over Israel,
And
Azariah the son of
Nathan was over the officers: and Zabud the son of
Nathan was principal officer, and the
king’s friend:
And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided
victuals for the
king and his household: each man his month in a year made provision.
Solomon had twelve governors over all Israel to provide food for the king and his household. Each one would arrange provisions for one month of the year,
Geber the son of
Uri was in the country of
Gilead, in the country of Sihon
king of the
Amorites, and of
Og king of
Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land.
Geber son of
Uri in the land of
Gilead, including the territories of Sihon
king of the
Amorites and of
Og king of
Bashan. There was also one governor in the land of Judah.
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
For Solomon had dominion over everything west of the Euphrates—over all the
kingdoms from Tiphsah to
Gaza—and he had peace on all sides.
And those officers provided
victual for
king Solomon, and for all that came unto
king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing.
Each month the governors in turn provided food for King Solomon and all who came to his table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking.
And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
So men of all nations came to
listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the
kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
And
Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had
anointed him
king in the room of his father: for
Hiram was ever a lover of David.
Now when
Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been
anointed king in his father’s place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for
Hiram had always been a friend of David.
And
king Solomon raised a
levy out of all Israel; and the
levy was thirty thousand men.
Then King Solomon conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Israel.
And the
king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and
hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
And the
king commanded them to
quarry large, costly stones to lay the foundation of the temple with dressed stones.
And the house which
king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.
The house that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high.
Now King Solomon sent to bring Huram from Tyre.
He was a widow’s son of the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and
cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to
king Solomon, and wrought all his work.
He was the son of a widow from the tribe of
Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a
craftsman in bronze. Huram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge for every
kind of bronze work. So he came to
King Solomon and carried out all his work.
And
Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So
Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made
king Solomon for the house of the LORD:
Additionally, Huram made the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished all the work that he had undertaken for
King Solomon in the house of the LORD:
And the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which
Hiram made to
king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. All the articles that Huram made for
King Solomon in the house of the LORD were made of
burnished bronze.
In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan.
The king had them cast in clay molds in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan.
So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the LORD. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the LORD.
So all the work that
King Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto
king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled before him in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto
king Solomon at the feast in the month
Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
And all the men of Israel came together to
King Solomon at the feast in the seventh month, the month of
Ethanim.
And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)
And as the whole assembly of Israel stood there, the king turned around and blessed them all
And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD.
Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the LORD.
And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.
And Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the house of the LORD.
The same day did the
king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
On that same day the
king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to contain all these offerings.
On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the
king, and went unto their tents joyful and
glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
On the
fifteenth day Solomon sent the people away. So they blessed the
king and went home, joyful and
glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for His servant David and for His people Israel.
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,
Now when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all that he had desired to do,
Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne over Israel
forever, as I promised your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king’s house,
Now at the end of the twenty years during which Solomon built these two houses, the house of the LORD and the royal palace,
(Now
Hiram the
king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with
cedar trees and
fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then
king Solomon gave
Hiram twenty cities in the land of
Galilee.
King Solomon gave twenty towns in the land of
Galilee to
Hiram king of Tyre, who had supplied him with
cedar and
cypress logs and gold for his every desire.
And
Hiram had sent the
king 120 talents of gold.
And this is the reason of the
levy which
king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and
Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
This is the account of the forced labor that
King Solomon imposed to build the house of the LORD, his own palace, the supporting terraces, and the wall of Jerusalem, as well as Hazor,
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
For Pharaoh
king of Egypt had gone up, and taken
Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the
Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
Pharaoh
king of Egypt had attacked and captured
Gezer. He had set it on fire, killed the
Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it as a
dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
And
king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-
geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of
Edom.
King Solomon also assembled a fleet of ships at Ezion-
geber, which is near Eloth in
Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.
And they came to
Ophir, and
fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to
king Solomon.
They sailed to
Ophir and imported gold from there—420 talents—and delivered it to Solomon.
And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing
hid from the
king, which he told her not.
And Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for the king to explain.
And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And she gave the
king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of
Sheba gave to
king Solomon.
Then she gave the
king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again was such an abundance of spices brought in as those the queen of
Sheba gave to
King Solomon.
And the
king made of the
almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the
king’s house, harps also and
psalteries for singers: there came no such
almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.
The
king made the
almug wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the
king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had such
almug wood been brought in, nor has such been seen to this day.)
And
king Solomon gave unto the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal
bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—besides what he had given her out of his royal
bounty. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
Beside that he had of the
merchantmen, and of the
traffick of the
spice merchants, and of all the
kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.
not including the revenue from the merchants, traders, and all the Arabian kings and governors of the land.
And
king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one
target.
King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield.
And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three pound of gold went to one shield: and the
king put them in the house of the forest of
Lebanon.
He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; three
minas of gold went into each shield. And the
king put them in the House of the Forest of
Lebanon.
Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold.
Additionally, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And all
king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All
King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
For the
king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of
Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the
king had the ships of
Tarshish at sea with
Hiram’s fleet, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom.
So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
And Solomon gathered together
chariots and
horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred
chariots, and twelve thousand
horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for
chariots, and with the
king at Jerusalem.
Solomon accumulated 1,400
chariots and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
And the
king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore trees that are in the
vale, for abundance.
The
king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar as abundant as
sycamore in the foothills.
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
And a
chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so for all the
kings of the
Hittites, and for the
kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. Likewise, they exported them to all the
kings of the
Hittites and to the
kings of
Aram.
But
king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites,
Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and
Hittites;
King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh—women of Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and
Sidon, as well as Hittite women.
Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon,
Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely
rend the
kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will
tear the
kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
Howbeit I will not
rend away all the
kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.
Yet I will not
tear the whole
kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”
And they arose out of
Midian, and came to
Paran: and they took men with them out of
Paran, and they came to Egypt, unto Pharaoh
king of Egypt; which gave him an house, and appointed him
victuals, and gave him land.
Hadad and his men set out from
Midian and went to
Paran. They took men from
Paran with them and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh
king of Egypt, who gave
Hadad a house and land and provided him with food.
And God
stirred him up another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from his lord Hadadezer
king of Zobah:
And God raised up against Solomon another
adversary, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer
king of Zobah,
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his hand against the
king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a servant of Solomon, but he rebelled against the
king,
And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the
king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the account of his rebellion against the
king. Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
And he said to
Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will
rend the
kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee:
and said to
Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for
yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will
tear the
kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and I will give you ten tribes.
Howbeit I will not take the whole
kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.
But I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from the hand of his son and give them to you.
And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel.
But as for you, I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your heart desires, and you will be king over Israel.
Solomon sought therefore to kill
Jeroboam. And
Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto
Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
Solomon therefore sought to kill
Jeroboam. But
Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to
Shishak king of Egypt, where he remained until the death of Solomon.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him
king.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of
king Solomon, and
Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he was still in Egypt where he had fled from
King Solomon and had been living ever since.
And
king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye
advise that I may answer this people?
Then
King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
And they spake unto him, saying, If thou
wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and
wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
They replied, “If you will be a servant to these people and serve them this day, and if you will
respond by speaking
kind words to them, they will be your servants
forever.”
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam the third day, as the
king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
After three days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the
king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”
And the
king answered the people roughly, and
forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;
And the king answered the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the elders
Wherefore the
king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by
Ahijah the Shilonite unto
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the
king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from the LORD, to
fulfill the word He had spoken to
Jeroboam son of Nebat through
Ahijah the Shilonite.
So when all Israel saw that the
king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the
king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of
Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
When all Israel saw that the
king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the
king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So the Israelites went home,
Then
king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore
king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then
King Rehoboam sent out Adoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. And
King Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.

Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him
