slew him with his own

He also killed an Egyptian, a huge

snatched the

advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from

man to his house: and David returned to
bless his house.
Then all the people departed for their homes, and David returned home to

And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to
enquire of his
welfare, and to

smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all
manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
he sent his son Hadoram to
greet King David and
bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,
And yet again there was war at
Gath, where was a
man of great
stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the
giant.

And
Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so
many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of
man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.

And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not
many sons; therefore they were in one
reckoning, according to their father’s house.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have
many sons, so they were counted as one family and received a single
assignment.
Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

And the sons of
Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And

many.
The descendants of

Both for the
shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the
unleavened cakes, and for that which is
baked in the pan, and for that which is
fried, and for all
manner of measure and size;
These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
This was their appointed order for service when they entered the house of the LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their
forefather Aaron, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.
And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
Among Jerijah’s relatives there were 2,700 capable men who were heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and to the affairs of the king.
Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of
Manasseh,
Joel the son of Pedaiah:
over the Ephraimites was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over one of the half-tribes of
Manasseh was
Joel son of Pedaiah;
Also
Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise
man, and a
scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:
David’s uncle
Jonathan was a
counselor; he was a
man of insight and a
scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the king.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty
man of
valor.
But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My Name, because you are a
man of war who has
spilled blood.’
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service:
the weight of all the gold articles for every kind of service; the weight of all the silver articles for every kind of service;
And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all
manner of
workmanship every willing skilful
man, for any
manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every willing
man of every skill will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your command.”
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for
man, but for the LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood;
onyx stones, and stones to be set,
glistering stones, and of
divers colours, and all
manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
Now with all my ability I have made provision for the house of my God—gold for the gold articles, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as
onyx for the settings,
turquoise, stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and slabs of marble—all in abundance.
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all
manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?
Send me now therefore a
man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
Send me, therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my
craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
And now I have sent a
cunning man,
endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s,
So now I am sending you Huram-abi, a skillful man endowed with creativity.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a
man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any
manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a
man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
And we will cut wood out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in flotes by sea to
Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
We will cut logs from
Lebanon, as
many as you need, and we will
float them to you as rafts by sea down to
Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”
Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the
manner before the
oracle, of pure gold;
the lampstands of pure gold and their lamps, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary as prescribed;
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a
man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
If a
man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
When a
man sins against his
neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by
recompensing his way upon his own head; and by
justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked
man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous
man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
Then what prayer or what
supplication soever shall be made of any
man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own
sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and render unto every
man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and repay each
man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
If they sin against thee, (for there is no
man which sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to a land far or near,
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a
man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the
man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And they brought every
man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and
raiment,
harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
Year after year, each
visitor would bring his tribute: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not
hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of
Jesse: every
man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every
man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired
many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought
many wives for them.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the
manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with
many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not
man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
They
smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
They also attacked the tents of the herdsmen and carried off many sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
For
many years Israel has been without the true God, without a priest to
instruct them, and without the law.
And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.
And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
That
whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether
man or woman.
And
whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old,
man or woman.
Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very
many chariots and
horsemen? yet, because thou
didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.
Were not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army with
many chariots and
horsemen? Yet because you
relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.
Then
Asa was
wroth with the
seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a
rage with him because of this thing. And
Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty
man of
valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
And after certain years he went down to
Ahab to Samaria. And
Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And some years later he went down to visit
Ahab in Samaria, where
Ahab sacrificed
many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him, and urged him to march up to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one
man, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he never
prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one
man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king said to him, How
many times shall I
adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?
But the king said to him, “How
many times must I make you
swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every
man to his house in peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”
And the LORD said, Who shall
entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead? And one spake saying after this
manner, and another saying after that
manner.
And the LORD said, ‘Who will
entice Ahab king of Israel to march up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead?’ And one suggested this, and another that.
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I return in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And a certain
man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: therefore he said to his
chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain
man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
And said to the judges, Take
heed what ye do: for ye judge not for
man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
Then he said to the judges, “Consider carefully what you do, for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD, who is with you when you render judgment.
Then they returned, every
man of Judah and Jerusalem, and
Jehoshaphat in the
forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to
rejoice over their enemies.
Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, with
Jehoshaphat at their head, returned
joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD had made them
rejoice over their enemies.
And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with
fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the
firstborn.
Their father had given them
many gifts of silver and gold and precious things, as well as the fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the
firstborn.
And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every
man with his weapons in his hand; and
whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
The Levites must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who enters the temple must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
So the Levites and all Judah did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions.
And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
He stationed all the troops, with their weapons in hand, surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
The accounts of the sons of
Joash, as well as the
many pronouncements about him and about the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
But he
slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every
man shall die for his own sin.
Yet he did not put their sons to death, but acted according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
But a man of God came to him and said, “O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel—not with any of the Ephraimites.
And
Amaziah said to the
man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the
man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
Amaziah asked the
man of God, “What should I do about the hundred talents I have given to the army of Israel?” And the
man of God replied, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.”
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his own home.
Also he built towers in the desert, and
digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains:
husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in
Carmel: for he loved
husbandry.
Since he had much
livestock in the foothills and in the plain, he built towers in the desert and
dug many cisterns. And since he was a lover of the soil, he had farmers and vinedressers in the hill country and in the fertile fields.
Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they
smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them
captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who
smote him with a great slaughter.
So the LORD his God delivered
Ahaz into the hand of the king of
Aram, who attacked him and took
many captives to Damascus.
Ahaz was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.
And Zichri, a mighty
man of Ephraim,
slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the son of the king, Azrikam the governor of the palace, and Elkanah the second to the king.
Then
Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated
yourselves unto the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and
thank offerings into the house of the LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and
thank offerings; and as
many as were of a free heart burnt offerings.
Then
Hezekiah said, “Now that you have consecrated
yourselves to the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and
thank offerings to the house of the LORD.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and
thank offerings, and all whose hearts were willing brought burnt offerings.
And
Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and
Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel.
Then
Hezekiah sent word throughout all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and
Manasseh inviting them to come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And the couriers traveled from city to city through the land of Ephraim and
Manasseh as far as
Zebulun; but the people
scorned and
mocked them.
