And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by
means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
And I, behold, I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his
chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
And I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by
means of Pharaoh and all his army and
chariots and
horsemen.
Keeping mercy for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and
transgression and sin, and that will by no
means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
maintaining loving devotion to a thousand generations,
forgiving iniquity,
transgression, and sin. Yet He will by no
means leave the guilty unpunished; He will visit the iniquity of the fathers on their children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”
The LORD is
longsuffering, and of great mercy,
forgiving iniquity and
transgression, and by no
means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
‘The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion,
forgiving iniquity and
transgression. Yet He will by no
means leave the guilty unpunished; He will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon their children to the third and fourth generation.’

Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what
means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to
afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
The lords of the Philistines went to her and said, “
Entice him and find out the source of his great strength and how we can overpower him to
tie him up and
subdue him. Then each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”
And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a
trespass offering: then ye shall be
healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
They replied, “If you return the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it away empty, but by all
means return it to Him with a guilt offering. Then you will be
healed, and you will understand why His hand has not been lifted from you.”
Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of
Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine
handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou
didst send.
My lord should pay no attention to this
scoundrel Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name
means Fool, and folly accompanies him. I, your servant, did not see my lord’s young men whom you sent.
For we must needs die, and are as water
spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither
doth God respect any person: yet
doth he
devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.
For surely we will die and be like water poured out on the ground, which cannot be recovered. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises ways that the banished one may not be cast out from Him.
And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.

And a
chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the
Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their
means.

chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. Likewise, they exported them to all the kings of the
Hittites and to the kings of
Aram.
And as the king passed by, he
cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any
means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
As the king passed by, he
cried out to the king: “Your servant had marched out into the middle of the battle, when suddenly a man came over with a
captive and told me, ‘Guard this man! If he goes missing for any reason, your life will be exchanged for his life, or you will
weigh out a talent of silver.’

persuade him.

means?’ asked the LORD.
And they
fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a
chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the
Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their
means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. Likewise, they exported them to all the kings of the

Aram.
Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will
entice him. And the LORD said unto him,
Wherewith?
Then a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will
entice him.’ ‘By what
means?’ asked the LORD.
We
certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this
means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
We
advise the king that if this city is rebuilt and its walls are restored, you will have no dominion west of the Euphrates.
None of them can by any
means redeem his brother, nor give to God a
ransom for him:
No man can possibly
redeem his brother or pay his
ransom to God.
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to
morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
Do not tell your
neighbor, “Come back
tomorrow and I will provide”— when you already have the
means.
For by
means of a
whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the
adulteress will
hunt for the precious life.
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their
means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it so, but what will you do in the end?
He judged the cause of the poor and
needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
He took up the cause of the poor and
needy, and so it went well with him. Is this not what it
means to know Me?” declares the LORD.
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations
whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations
whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would
exalt him.

means exalt them.
The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all
acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the
whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
The LORD is slow to anger and great in power; the LORD will by no
means leave the guilty unpunished. His path is in the
whirlwind and storm, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet.
And now, I pray you,
beseech God that he will be
gracious unto us: this hath been by your
means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
“But ask now for God’s favor. Will He be
gracious? Since this has come from your hands, will He show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Immanuel” (which
means, “God with us”).
And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
‘But you,
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no
means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will be the
shepherd of My people Israel.’”
Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last
penny.
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If
anyone swears by the temple, it
means nothing; but if
anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’
And,
Whosoever shall
swear by the altar, it is nothing; but
whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
And you say, ‘If
anyone swears by the altar, it
means nothing; but if
anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’

Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
And when they came to a place called
Golgotha, which
means The Place of the Skull,
And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me?

cried out in a loud voice, “
Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” which

Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s

means.
They also which saw it told them by what

healed.
Meanwhile, those who had seen it reported how the

healed.
Behold, I give unto you power to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any
means hurt you.
Behold, I have given you authority to
tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will
harm you.

Rabbi” (which

But by what
means he now
seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the
impotent man, by what
means he is made whole;
If we are being examined
today about a kind service to a man who was

healed,
But Elymas the
sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation)
withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

bade them
farewell, saying, I must by all
means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

And because the
haven was not
commodious to winter in, the more part
advised to depart thence also, if by any
means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an
haven of
Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
in my prayers at all times, asking that now at last by God’s will I may succeed in coming to you.
Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their
fulness?
But if their
trespass means riches for the world, and their failure
means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring!
If by any
means I may
provoke to
emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
in the hope that I may
provoke my own people to jealousy and save some of them.
Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer
yourselves to be
defrauded?
The very fact that you have lawsuits among you
means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be
cheated?
But take
heed lest by any
means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
Be careful, however, that your freedom does not become a
stumbling block to the weak.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
To the weak I became weak, to
win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible
means I might save some.
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any
means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a
castaway.
No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the
means of many persons
thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give
thanks on our behalf for the favor shown us in answer to their prayers.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we
persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
Therefore, since we know what it
means to fear the Lord, we try to
persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a
readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
Now finish the work, so that you may complete it just as eagerly as you began, according to your means.
But I fear, lest by any
means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
I am afraid, however, that just as
Eve was
deceived by the serpent’s
cunning, your minds may be led
astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.
And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I
preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any
means I should run, or had run, in vain.
I went in
response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I
preach among the Gentiles. But I spoke privately to those recognized as leaders, for fear that I was running or had already run in vain.
If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
and so,
somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
For this cause, when I could no longer
forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some
means the
tempter have
tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the
tempter had
somehow tempted you and caused our labor to be in vain.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are
asleep.
By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no
means precede those who have fallen
asleep.
Let no man
deceive you by any
means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of
perdition;
Let no one
deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of
lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

Salem”
means “king of peace.”
And for this cause he is the
mediator of the new testament, that by
means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Therefore Christ is the
mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that He has died to
redeem them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it
deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.
Now when Mardocheus, who had seen this dream, and what God had determined to do, was

means of her I shall obtain immortality, and leave behind me an
everlasting memorial to them that come after me.
For a manifest reproof of that commandment, whereby the infants were slain, thou gavest unto them abundance of water by a means which they hoped not for:
For thy
Almighty hand, that made the world of matter without form, wanted not
means to send among them a multitude of bears or fierce lions,
For health he calleth upon that which is weak: for life prayeth to that which is dead; for aid
humbly beseecheth that which hath least
means to help: and for a good journey he asketh of that which cannot set a foot forward:
But they counted our life a
pastime, and our time here a market for gain: for, say they, we must be getting every way, though it be by evil
means.
Change not a friend for any good by no
means; neither a faithful brother for the gold of
Ophir.

The people therefore
sang the acts of Simon, and unto what glory he thought to bring his nation, made him their governor and chief priest, because he had done all these things, and for the justice and faith which he kept to his nation, and for that he sought by all
means to
exalt his people.

And the royal privileges granted of special favour to the Jews by the
means of John the father of Eupolemus, who went ambassador to Rome for
amity and aid, he took away; and putting down the governments which were according to the law, he brought up new customs against the law:
Thus he, that took upon him to make good to the Romans their tribute by
means of
captives in Jerusalem, told abroad, that the Jews had God to fight for them, and therefore they could not be
hurt, because they followed the laws that he gave them.
Now one Alcimus, who had been high priest, and had
defiled himself
wilfully in the times of their
mingling with the Gentiles, seeing that by no
means he could save himself, nor have any more access to the holy altar,
