Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
The disciples looked at
one another,
perplexed as to which of them He meant.
Now there was
leaning on Jesus’
bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
One of His disciples, the
one whom Jesus loved, was
reclining at His side.
Simon Peter therefore
beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
So Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus which one He was talking about.
Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a
sop, when I have
dipped it. And when he had
dipped the
sop, he gave it to
Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
But no one at the table knew why Jesus had said this to him.
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
By this
everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love
one another.”
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the
one who loves Me. The
one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and
reveal Myself to him.”
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
These things I command you, that ye love one another.
This is My command to you: Love one another.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and
hated both me and my Father.
If I had not done among them the works that no
one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and
hated both Me and My Father.
Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
Then some of His disciples asked one another, “Why is He telling us, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”
Now Jesus knew that they were
desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye
enquire among
yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Aware that they wanted to question Him, Jesus said to them, “Are you asking one another why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’?
And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall
rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will
rejoice, and no
one will take away your joy.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one.
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of
perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
While I was with them, I protected and preserved them by Your name, the name You gave Me. Not one of them has been lost, except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
I am not asking that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I have given them the glory You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one—
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
I in them and You in Me—that they may be perfectly united, so that the world may know that You sent Me and have loved them just as You have loved Me.
That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
This was to
fulfill the word He had spoken: “I have not lost
one of those You have given Me.”
Now
Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that
one man should die for the people.
Caiaphas was the
one who had
advised the Jews that it would be better if
one man died for the people.
Then saith the
damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also
one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
At this, the servant
girl watching the door said to Peter, “Aren’t you also
one of this man’s disciples?” “I am not,” he answered.
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
When Jesus had said this,
one of the officers standing nearby
slapped Him in the face and said, “Is this how You answer the high priest?”
And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they asked him, “Aren’t you also one of His disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
One of the servants of the high priest, being his
kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?”
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every
one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
“Then You are a king!”
Pilate said. “You say that I am a king,” Jesus answered. “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to
testify to the truth.
Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.”
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you
one at the
passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
But it is your custom that I release to you
one prisoner at the
Passover. So then, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin.”
Where they
crucified him, and two others with him, on either side
one, and Jesus in the midst.
There they
crucified Him, and with Him two others,
one on each side, with Jesus in the middle.
Then the soldiers, when they had
crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without
seam,
woven from the top throughout.
When the soldiers had
crucified Jesus, they divided His garments into four parts,
one for each soldier, with the
tunic remaining. It was
seamless,
woven in
one piece from top to bottom.
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not
rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my
vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
So they said to
one another, “Let us not
tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it.” This was to
fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the soldiers did.
But
one of the soldiers with a
spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water.
Instead,
one of the soldiers pierced His side with a
spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.
And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
The
one who saw it has
testified to this, and his testimony is true. He knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
Now these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of His bones will be broken.”
And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.”
Now in the place where he was
crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new
sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
Now there was a garden in the place where Jesus was
crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no
one had yet been laid.
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the
sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,” she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him!”
And
seeth two angels in white sitting, the
one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had
lain.
and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had
lain,
one at the head and the other at the feet.
But Thomas,
one of the twelve, called
Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
Now Thomas called
Didymus,
one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.
Then Peter, turning about,
seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also
leaned on his breast at
supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. He was the
one who had
leaned back against Jesus at the
supper to ask, “Lord, who is going to
betray You?”
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every
one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
Amen.
There are many more things that Jesus did. If all of them were written down, I suppose that not even the world itself would have space for the books that would be written.
These all continued with
one accord in prayer and
supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
With
one accord they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
He was one of our number and shared in this ministry.”
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his
habitation be
desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.
“For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’ and, ‘May another take his position.’
Wherefore of these men which have
companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
beginning from John’s baptism until the day Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”
And when the day of
Pentecost was fully come, they were all with
one accord in
one place.
When the day of
Pentecost came, they were all together in
one place.
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
And when this sound
rang out, a crowd came together in
bewilderment, because each
one heard them speaking his own language.
And they were all
amazed and
marvelled, saying
one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
And they were all
amazed, and were in doubt, saying
one to another, What meaneth this?
Because thou
wilt not leave my soul in
hell, neither
wilt thou suffer thine Holy
One to see corruption.
because You will not
abandon my soul to Hades, nor will You let Your Holy
One see decay.
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had
sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne.
Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be
baptized every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Peter replied, “
Repent and be
baptized, every
one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
And they, continuing daily with
one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with
gladness and singleness of heart,
With
one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with
gladness and
sincerity of heart,
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to
bless you, in turning away every
one of you from his
iniquities.
When God raised up His Servant, He sent Him first to you to
bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with
one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
When the believers heard this, they lifted up their voices to God with
one accord. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “You made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them.
The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His
Anointed One.’
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
The multitude of believers was one in heart and soul. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they owned.
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
There were no
needy ones among them, because those who owned lands or houses would sell their property, bring the proceeds from the sales,
And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with
one accord in Solomon’s
porch.
The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people, and with
one accord the believers gathered together in Solomon’s
Colonnade.
And of the rest
durst no man join himself to them: but the people
magnified them.
Although the people regarded them highly, no
one else
dared to join them.
There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick
folks, and them which were
vexed with unclean spirits: and they were
healed every
one.
Crowds also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those
tormented by unclean spirits, and all of them were
healed.
Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
“We found the
jail securely locked, with the guards posted at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no
one inside.”
Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
Then someone came in and
announced, “Look, the men you put in
jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people!”
Then stood there up
one in the council, a
Pharisee, named
Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
But a
Pharisee named
Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who was honored by all the people, stood up in the
Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a short time.
And seeing
one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and
avenged him that was
oppressed, and
smote the Egyptian:
And when he saw
one of them being mistreated, Moses went to his
defense and
avenged him by striking down the Egyptian who was
oppressing him.
And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they
strove, and would have set them at
one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong
one to another?
The next day he came upon two Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to
reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the
bush.
This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ is the
one whom God sent to be their ruler and
redeemer through the angel who appeared to him in the
bush.
Which of the prophets have not your fathers
persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just
One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Which of the prophets did your fathers fail to
persecute? They even killed those who
foretold the coming of the Righteous
One. And now you are His betrayers and murderers—
Then they
cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with
one accord,
At this they covered their ears,
cried out in a loud voice, and
rushed together at him.
And the people with
one accord gave
heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
The crowds gave their undivided attention to Philip’s message and to the signs they saw him perform.
But there was a certain man, called Simon, which
beforetime in the same city used
sorcery, and
bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great
one:
Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced
sorcery in the city and
astounded the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great,
And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and
enquire in the house of
Judas for
one called Saul, of
Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
“Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of
Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from
Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a
basket.
One night, however, his disciples took him and lowered him in a
basket through a window in the wall.
And Peter stayed for several days in
Joppa with a
tanner named Simon.
A
devout man, and
one that feared God with all his house, which gave much
alms to the people, and prayed to God
alway.
He and all his household were
devout and God-fearing. He gave generously to the people and prayed to God regularly.
He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him,
Cornelius.
One day at about the ninth hour, he had a clear vision of an angel of God who came to him and said, “
Cornelius!”
And now send men to
Joppa, and call for
one Simon, whose
surname is Peter:
Now send men to
Joppa to call for a man named Simon who is called Peter.
He lodgeth with
one Simon a
tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
He is staying with Simon the
tanner, whose house is by the sea.”
Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from
Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
So Peter went down to the men and said, “Here am I, the one you are looking for. Why have you come?”
And they said,
Cornelius the
centurion, a just man, and
one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was
warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
“
Cornelius the
centurion has sent us,” they said. “He is a righteous and God-fearing man with a good reputation among the whole Jewish nation. A holy angel
instructed him to request your presence in his home so he could hear a message from you.”
And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a
Jew to keep company, or come unto
one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
He said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a
Jew to associate with a foreigner or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean.
Send therefore to
Joppa, and call
hither Simon, whose
surname is Peter; he is
lodged in the house of
one Simon a
tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
Therefore send to
Joppa for Simon, who is called Peter. He is a
guest in the home of Simon the
tanner, by the sea.’
And he commanded us to
preach unto the people, and to
testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
And He commanded us to
preach to the people and to
testify that He is the
One appointed by God to judge the living and the dead.
And there stood up
one of them named
Agabus, and
signified by the spirit that there should be great
dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of
Claudius Caesar.
One of them named
Agabus stood up and
predicted through the Spirit that a great famine would
sweep across the whole world. (This happened under
Claudius.)
When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own
accord: and they went out, and passed on through
one street; and
forthwith the angel departed from him.
They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city, which opened for them by itself. When they had gone outside and walked the length of one block, the angel suddenly left him.
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and
Sidon: but they came with
one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was
nourished by the king’s country.
Now Herod was in a
furious dispute with the people of Tyre and
Sidon, and they
convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s
chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.
And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh
one after me, whose
shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
As John was completing his course, he said, ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not that
One. But He is coming after me whose
sandals I am not worthy to
untie.’
Wherefore he saith also in another
psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy
One to see corruption.
So also, He says in another
Psalm: ‘You will not let Your Holy
One see decay.’
But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
But the One whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.
It seemed good unto us, being assembled with
one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved
Barnabas and Paul,
So we all agreed to choose men to send to you along with our beloved
Barnabas and Paul,
Their disagreement was so sharp that they parted company.
Barnabas took Mark and sailed for
Cyprus,
