Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
Surely this is the joy of his way; yet others will spring from the dust.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
For He is not a man like me, that I can answer Him, that we can take each other to court.
Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee
ashamed?
They are
exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all
other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
They are
exalted for a moment, then they are gone; they are brought low and gathered up like all
others; they are cut off like heads of grain.
Then let my wife
grind unto another, and let
others bow down upon her.
then may my own wife
grind grain for another, and may
other men sleep with her.
Now
Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
Now
Elihu had waited to speak to Job because the
others were older than he.
He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set
others in their
stead.
He
shatters the mighty without inquiry and sets up
others in their place.
He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
He strikes them for their wickedness in full view,
Their sorrows shall be multiplied that
hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
Sorrows will multiply to those who
chase other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood, or speak their names with my lips.
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing
hid from the heat thereof.
it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the
other; nothing is deprived of its
warmth.
Some trust in
chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
Some trust in
chariots and
others in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
For I said, Hear me, lest
otherwise they should
rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they
magnify themselves against me.
For I said, “Let them not
gloat over me— those who
taunt me when my foot slips.”
For he
seeth that wise men die, likewise the
fool and the
brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to
others.
For it is clear that wise men die, and the
foolish and the senseless both perish and leave their wealth to
others.
They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
They are free of the burdens
others carry; they are not
afflicted like
other men.
Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have
kissed each
other.
Loving devotion and faithfulness have joined together; righteousness and peace have
kissed.
And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
He gave them the lands of the nations, that they might
inherit the fruit of
others’ labor,
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
Others went out to sea in ships, conducting trade on the mighty waters.
He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
He has done this for no
other nation; they do not know His judgments.
Hallelujah!
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
lest you
concede your
vigor to
others, and your years to one who is cruel;
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
A generous soul will
prosper, and he who refreshes
others will himself be refreshed.
Go not forth
hastily to
strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
do not bring
hastily to court.
Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your
neighbor puts you to shame?
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and
steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my God.
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the
other;
yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
For the fates of both men and beasts are the same: As one dies, so dies the
other—they all have the same breath. Man has no advantage over the animals, since everything is
futile.
If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent
perverting of judgment and justice in a province,
marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.
If you see the oppression of the poor and the
denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be
astonished at the matter; for one official is watched by a superior, and
others higher still are over them.
Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.
The child, though neither seeing the sun nor knowing anything, has more rest than that man,
For what hath the wise more than the
fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?
What advantage, then, has the wise man over the
fool? What gain comes to the poor man who knows how to conduct himself before
others?
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the
other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
In the day of prosperity, be joyful, but in the day of
adversity, consider this: God has made one of these along with the
other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the
other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings.
For you know in your heart that many times you
yourself have
cursed others.
What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou
dost so charge us?
How is your beloved better than others, O most beautiful among women? How is your beloved better than another, that you charge us so?
Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be
healed.
Make the hearts of this people calloused;
deafen their ears and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be
healed.”
O LORD our God, other lords besides thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
O LORD our God,
other lords besides You have had dominion, but Your name alone do we
confess.
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the
other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.
Each one helps the other and says to his brother, “Be strong!”
Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and
shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
All the nations gather together and the peoples
assemble. Who among them can declare this, and
proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to
vindicate them, so that
others may hear and say, “It is true.”
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me?
yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Do not
tremble or fear. Have I not told you and declared it long ago? You are My witnesses! Is there any God but Me? There is no
other Rock; I know not one.”
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I
girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
I am the LORD, and there is no
other; there is no God but Me. I will
equip you for battle, though you have not known Me,
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
so that all may know, from where the sun rises to where it sets, that there is none but Me; I am the LORD, and there is no other.
Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and
merchandise of
Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of
stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make
supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
This is what the LORD says: “The products of Egypt and the
merchandise of
Cush, along with the
Sabeans, men of
stature, will come over to you and will be yours; they will
trudge behind you; they will come over in chains and bow down to you. They will
confess to you: ‘God is indeed with you, and there is no
other; there is no
other God.’”
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens—He is God; He formed the earth and fashioned it; He established it; He did not
create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no
other.
Tell ye, and bring them near;
yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
Speak up and present your case—
yes, let them take counsel together. Who
foretold this long ago? Who
announced it from ancient times? Was it not I, the LORD? There is no
other God but Me, a righteous God and
Savior; there is none but Me.
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Remember what happened long ago, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.
The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
Yet the children of your
bereavement will say in your hearing, ‘This place is too small for us; make room for us to live here.’
He is near that justifieth me; who will
contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine
adversary? let him come near to me.
The One who vindicates Me is near. Who will
dare to
contend with Me? Let us
confront each
other! Who has a case against Me? Let him approach Me!
The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
Thus declares the Lord GOD, who gathers the
dispersed of Israel: “I will gather to them still
others besides those already gathered.”
They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine
elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
For I am about to
summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD. “Their kings will come and set up their thrones at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the
other cities of Judah.
And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto
other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
I will
pronounce My judgments against them for all their wickedness, because they have
forsaken Me to burn incense to
other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my
fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can
quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts, O men of Judah and people of Jerusalem.
Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it, because of your evil deeds.”
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
If ye
oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after
other gods to your
hurt:
if you no longer
oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow
other gods to your own
harm,
Will ye
steal, murder, and commit
adultery, and
swear falsely, and burn incense unto
Baal, and walk after
other gods whom ye know not;
Will you
steal and murder, commit
adultery and
perjury, burn incense to
Baal, and follow
other gods that you have not known,
The children gather wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women
knead their
dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto
other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women
knead the
dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to
other gods to
provoke Me to anger.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your
other sacrifices and eat the meat
yourselves!
Therefore will I give their wives unto
others, and their fields to them that shall
inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to
covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore I will give their wives to
other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are
greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice
deceit.
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after
other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
Is not My inheritance to Me like a
speckled bird of prey with
other birds of prey circling against her? Go, gather all the beasts of the field; bring them to
devour her.
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall
devour from the one end of the land even to the
other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after
other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this
girdle, which is good for nothing.
These evil people, who refuse to
listen to My words, who follow the
stubbornness of their own hearts, and who go after
other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have
forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after
other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have
forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
Then you are to answer them: ‘It is because your fathers have
forsaken Me, declares the LORD, and followed
other gods, and served and worshiped them. They abandoned Me and did not keep My instruction.
Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve
other gods day and night; where I will not
shew you favour.
So I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.
Because they have
forsaken me, and have
estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto
other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in this place to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be
defiled as the place of
Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto
other gods.
The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will be
defiled like that place, Topheth—all the houses on whose rooftops they burned incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to
other gods.”
Then they shall answer, Because they have
forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped
other gods, and served them.
Then people will reply, ‘Because they have
forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and have worshiped and served
other gods.’”
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
One
basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the
other basket had very
naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
One
basket had very good figs, like those that
ripen early, but the
other basket contained very poor figs, so bad they could not be eaten.
And go not after
other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and
provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no
hurt.
Do not follow
other gods to serve and worship them, and do not
provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands. Then I will do you no
harm.’
And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the
other end of the earth: they shall not be
lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.
Those slain by the LORD on that day will be spread from one end of the earth to the
other. They will not be
mourned, gathered, or buried. They will be like dung lying on the ground.
And
Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
Then King
Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan son of Achbor along with some
other men.
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away
captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away
captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the
surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets, and all the
others Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day, both in Israel and among all mankind. And You have made a name for
Yourself, as is the case to this day.
And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto
Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto
other gods, to
provoke me to anger.
And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire, and burn it, along with the houses of those who
provoked Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal on their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to
other gods.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the
other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after
other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after
other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
Then he went down into the king’s house, into the
scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the
scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and
Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
he went down to the
scribe’s chamber in the king’s palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the
scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan,
Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the
other officials.
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and
other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the
Ammonites, and in
Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
When all the Jews in Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and all the
other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over them,
But ten men were found among them that said unto
Ishmael,
Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he
forbare, and
slew them not among their brethren.
But ten of the men among them said to
Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for we have hidden
treasure in the field—wheat, barley, oil, and honey!” So he
refrained from killing them with the
others.
Then
Ishmael carried away
captive all the residue of the people that were in
Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in
Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam: and
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away
captive, and departed to go over to the
Ammonites.
Because of their wickedness which they have committed to
provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve
other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
because of the evil they have done. They
provoked Me to anger by continuing to burn incense and to serve
other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto
other gods.
But they did not
listen or
incline their ears; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to
other gods.
In that ye
provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto
other gods in the land of Egypt,
whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut
yourselves off, and that ye might be a
curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
Why are you
provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands by burning incense to
other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to reside? As a result, you will be cut off and will become an object of
cursing and reproach among all the nations of the earth.
Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, and all the women standing by—a great assembly—along with all the people living in the land of Egypt and in Pathros, said to Jeremiah,
And spake kindly unto him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon,
And he spoke kindly to
Jehoiachin and set his throne above the thrones of the
other kings who were with him in Babylon.
And under the
firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the
other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
And under the
expanse, their wings stretched out toward one another. Each one also had two wings covering its body.
And to the
others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and
smite: let not your eye
spare, neither have ye
pity:
And as I
listened, He said to the
others, “Follow him through the city and start killing; do not show
pity or
spare anyone!
They have seen vanity and lying
divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made
others to hope that they would
confirm the word.
They see false visions and speak lying divinations. They claim, ‘Thus declares the LORD,’ when the LORD did not send them; yet they wait for the
fulfillment of their message.
Because, even because they have
seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo,
others daubed it with untempered
morter:
Because they have led My people
astray, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and
whitewashing any
flimsy wall that is built,
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
“Son of man, how does the wood of the vine
surpass any
other branch among the trees in the forest?
And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (
woe,
woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;)
Woe!
Woe to you, declares the Lord GOD. And in addition to all your
other wickedness,
And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
So your
prostitution is the opposite of that of
other women: No one
solicited your favors, and you paid a fee instead of receiving one; so you are the very opposite!
Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast
fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will
recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this
lewdness above all thine abominations.
Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but
enraged Me with all these things, I will surely bring your deeds down upon your own head, declares the Lord GOD. Have you not committed this
lewdness on top of all your
other abominations?
Go thee one way or
other, either on the right hand, or on the left,
whithersoever thy face is set.
Slash to the right; set your
blade to the left— wherever your
blade is directed.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Moab and
Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because Moab and
Seir said, “Look, the house of Judah is like all the
other nations,”
For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a
desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When I make you a
desolate city like
other deserted cities, and when I raise up the deep against you so that the mighty waters cover you,
Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy
merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy
merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
Your wealth, wares, and
merchandise, your sailors, captains, and shipwrights, your merchants and all the warriors within you, with all the
