Howl, O
Heshbon, for
Ai is
spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
gird you with
sackcloth;
lament, and run to and
fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.
Wail, O
Heshbon, for
Ai has been destroyed; cry
out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on
sackcloth and
mourn; run back and forth within your walls, for Milcom will go into exile together with his priests and officials.
Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
Behold, I am about to bring terror upon you, declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, from all those around you. You will each be driven
headlong, with no one to regather the fugitives.
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them
out: surely he shall make their habitations
desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against
Edom and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
And upon
Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will
scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation
whither the
outcasts of
Elam shall not come.
I will bring the four winds against
Elam from the four corners of the heavens, and I will
scatter them to all these winds. There will not be a nation to which
Elam’s exiles will not go.
For I will cause
Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them even my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:
So I will
shatter Elam before their foes, before those who seek their lives. I will bring
disaster upon them, even My fierce anger,” declares the LORD. “I will send
out the sword after them until I finish them off.
For
out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land a
desolation. No one will live in it; both man and beast will
flee.”
Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
Flee from the midst of Babylon; depart from the land of the Chaldeans; be like the he-goats that lead the flock.
Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the
vengeance of the LORD: take
vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
Raise a war cry against her on every side! She has thrown up her hands in surrender; her towers have fallen; her walls are
torn down. Since this is the
vengeance of the LORD, take
out your
vengeance upon her; as she has done, do the same to her.
The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his
indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
The LORD has opened His
armory and brought
out His weapons of wrath, for this is the work of the Lord GOD of Hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
The voice of them that
flee and escape
out of the land of Babylon, to declare in
Zion the
vengeance of the LORD our God, the
vengeance of his temple.
Listen to the fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon, declaring in
Zion the
vengeance of the LORD our God, the
vengeance for His temple.
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them
out: surely he shall make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S
vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.
The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind
out of his treasures.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens
roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch
out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a
charred mountain.
Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath
devoured me, he hath
crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath
swallowed me up like a
dragon, he hath filled his
belly with my delicates, he hath cast me
out.
And I will
punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth
out of his mouth that which he hath
swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him:
yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
I will
punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him
spew out what he
swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Because the LORD hath
spoiled Babylon, and destroyed
out of her the great voice; when her waves do
roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:
For the LORD will destroy Babylon; He will silence her mighty voice. The waves will
roar like great waters; the
tumult of their voices will resound.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them
out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled against the king of Babylon.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
Then he put
out the eyes of
Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.
Then he put
out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon, where he kept him in
custody until his dying day.
He took also
out of the city an
eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city; and the principal
scribe of the host, who
mustered the people of the land; and
threescore men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of
Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away
captive out of his own land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth
out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
And changed his prison garments: and he did continually eat bread before him all the days of his life.
So
Jehoiachin changed
out of his prison clothes, and he
dined regularly at the king’s table for the rest of his life.
The
adversary hath spread
out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou
didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
The
adversary has seized all her treasures. For she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary— those You had forbidden to enter Your assembly.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a
menstruous woman among them.
Zion stretches
out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed against Jacob that his neighbors become his foes. Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
I called for my lovers, but they
deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to
relieve their souls.
I called
out to my lovers, but they have
betrayed me. My priests and elders perished in the city while they searched for food to keep themselves alive.
Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my
bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have
grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
See, O LORD, how distressed I am! I am
churning within; my heart is pounding within me, for I have been most
rebellious.
Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is death.
He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an
adversary, and
slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of
Zion: he poured
out his
fury like fire.
He has bent His bow like an enemy; His right hand is positioned. Like a
foe He has killed all who were pleasing to the eye; He has poured
out His wrath like fire on the tent of the Daughter of
Zion.
The LORD hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of
Zion: he hath stretched
out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: therefore he made the
rampart and the wall to
lament; they
languished together.
The LORD determined to destroy the wall of the Daughter of
Zion. He stretched
out a measuring line and did not withdraw His hand from destroying. He made the ramparts and walls
lament; together they waste away.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings
swoon in the streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My heart is poured
out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my people, because children and infants
faint in the streets of the city.
They say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured
out into their mothers’
bosom.
They cry
out to their mothers: “Where is the grain and wine?” as they
faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives
fade away in the arms of their mothers.
Their heart
cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.
The hearts of the people cry
out to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of
Zion, let your tears run down like a river day and night. Give
yourself no relief, and your eyes no rest.
Arise, cry
out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour
out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry
out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour
out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
He hath
hedged me about, that I cannot get
out: he hath made my chain heavy.
He has walled me in so I cannot escape; He has
weighed me down with chains.
Also when I cry and
shout, he shutteth
out my prayer.
Even when I cry
out and
plead for help, He shuts
out my prayer.
Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
Do not both
adversity and good come from the mouth of the Most High?
I called upon thy name, O LORD,
out of the low
dungeon.
I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the depths of the Pit.
How is the gold become
dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured
out in the top of every street.
How the gold has become
tarnished, the pure gold has become dull! The
gems of the temple lie scattered on every street corner.
Even the sea monsters draw
out the breast, they give
suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
Even jackals offer their breasts to
nurse their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like an
ostrich in the wilderness.
The LORD hath accomplished his
fury; he hath poured
out his fierce anger, and hath
kindled a fire in
Zion, and it hath
devoured the foundations thereof.
The LORD has exhausted His wrath; He has poured
out His fierce anger; He has
kindled a fire in
Zion, and it has consumed her foundations.
They
hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
They
stalked our every step, so that we could not walk in our streets. Our end drew near, our time ran
out, for our end had come!
Servants have ruled over us: there is none that
doth deliver us
out of their hand.
Slaves rule over us; there is no one to deliver us from their hands.
And I looked, and, behold, a
whirlwind came
out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and
out of the midst thereof as the colour of
amber,
out of the midst of the fire.
I looked and saw a
whirlwind coming from the north, a great cloud with fire
flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the center of the fire was a
gleam like
amber,
Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
and within it was the form of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: They had a human form,
As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and
out of the fire went forth
lightning.
In the midst of the living creatures was the appearance of
glowing coals of fire, or of torches. Fire moved back and forth between the living creatures; it was bright, and
lightning flashed out of it.
And the likeness of the
firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
Spread
out above the heads of the living creatures was the likeness of an
awesome expanse,
gleaming like crystal.
And under the
firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
And under the
expanse, their wings stretched
out toward one another. Each one also had two wings covering its body.
And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;
Then I looked and saw a hand reaching
out to me, and in it was a
scroll,
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or speak
out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.
And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.
And there the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He said to me, “Get up, go out to the plain, and there I will speak with you.”
Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of
Chebar: and I fell on my face.
So I got up and went out to the plain, and behold, the glory of the LORD was present there, like the glory I had seen by the River Kebar, and I fell facedown.
But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:
And you, son of man, they will
tie with ropes, and you will be bound so that you cannot go
out among the people.
And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day: from time to time shalt thou eat it.
You are to
weigh out twenty shekels of food to eat each day, and you are to eat it at set times.
Thou shalt drink also water by measure, the sixth part of an
hin: from time to time shalt thou drink.
You are also to measure
out a sixth of a
hin of water to drink, and you are to drink it at set times.
And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt
bake it with dung that cometh
out of man, in their sight.
And you shall eat the food as you would a barley
cake, after you
bake it over dried human
excrement in the sight of the people.”
Thou shalt burn with fire a third part in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled: and thou shalt take a third part, and
smite about it with a knife: and a third part thou shalt
scatter in the wind; and I will draw
out a sword after them.
When the days of the siege have ended, you are to burn up a third of the hair inside the city; you are also to take a third and
slash it with the sword all around the city; and you are to
scatter a third to the wind. For I will
unleash a sword behind them.
A third part of thee shall die with the
pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee and I will
scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw
out a sword after them.
A third of your people will die by plague or be consumed by famine within you, a third will fall by the sword
outside your walls, and a third I will
scatter to every wind and
unleash a sword behind them.
In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be
desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made
desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.
Wherever you live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be
demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and
desecrated, your idols
smashed and
obliterated, your incense altars cut down, and your works
blotted out.
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say,
Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
This is what the Lord GOD says:
Clap your hands,
stomp your feet, and cry
out “
Alas!” because of all the wicked abominations of the house of Israel, who will fall by sword and famine and plague.
So will I stretch
out my hand upon them, and make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch
out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Now will I shortly pour
out my
fury upon thee, and
accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will
recompense thee for all thine abominations.
Very soon I will pour
out My wrath upon you and
vent My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath
blossomed, pride hath
budded.
The sword is without, and the
pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and
pestilence shall
devour him.
The sword is
outside; plague and famine are within. Those in the country will die by the sword, and those in the city will be
devoured by famine and plague.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He stretched
out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
He
cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
Then I heard Him call out in a loud voice, saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with a weapon of destruction in hand.”
And he said unto them,
Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and
slew in the city.
Then He told them, “
Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go forth!” So they went
out and began killing throughout the city.
And it came to pass, while they were
slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and
cried, and said,
Ah Lord GOD!
wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring
out of thy
fury upon Jerusalem?
While they were killing, I was left alone. And I fell facedown and
cried out, “Oh, Lord GOD, when You pour
out Your wrath on Jerusalem, will You destroy the entire
remnant of Israel?”
And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the
outer court, as the voice of the
Almighty God when he speaketh.
The sound of the wings of the
cherubim could be heard as far as the
outer court, like the voice of God
Almighty when He speaks.
And one
cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went
out.
Then one of the
cherubim reached
out his hand and took some of the fire that was among them. And he put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who received it and went
out.
And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’S house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
As I watched, the
cherubim lifted their wings and rose up from the ground, with the wheels beside them as they went. And they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, with the glory of the God of Israel above them.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Your slain whom ye have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the
caldron: but I will bring you forth
out of the midst of it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: The slain you have laid within this city are the meat, and the city is the pot; but I will remove you from it.
And I will bring you
out of the midst thereof, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will
execute judgments among you.
I will bring you
out of the city and deliver you into the hands of foreigners, and I will
execute judgments against you.
And it came to pass, when I
prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and
cried with a loud voice, and said,
Ah Lord GOD!
wilt thou make a full end of the
remnant of Israel?
Now as I was
prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell facedown and
cried out in a loud voice, “Oh, Lord GOD, will You bring the
remnant of Israel to a complete end?”
Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and
assemble you
out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will gather you from the peoples and
assemble you from the countries to which you have been scattered, and I will give back to you the land of Israel.’
And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the
stony heart
out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh,
Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a
rebellious house.
Therefore, son of man,
pack your bags for exile. In broad
daylight, set
out from your place and go to another as they watch. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a
rebellious house.
Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity.
Bring
out your
baggage for exile by day, as they watch. Then in the evening, as they watch, go
out like those who go into exile.
Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry
out thereby.
As they watch,
dig through the wall and carry your belongings
out through it.
In their sight shalt thou bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the
twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I have set thee for a sign unto the house of Israel.
And as they watch, lift your bags to your shoulder and take them
out at
dusk; cover your face so that you cannot see the land. For I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.”
And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I
digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the
twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.
So I did as I was commanded. I brought
out my bags for exile by day, and in the evening I
dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings
out at
dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the
twilight, and shall go forth: they shall
dig through the wall to carry
out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes.
And at
dusk the prince among them will lift his bags to his shoulder and go
out. They will
dig through the wall to bring him
out. He will cover his face so he cannot see the land.
And I will
scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw
out the sword after them.
And I will
scatter to every wind all the attendants around him and all his troops, and I will draw a sword to
chase after them.
Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel that
prophesy, and say thou unto them that
prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
“Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now
prophesying. Tell those who
prophesy out of their own imagination: Hear the word of the LORD!
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which
prophesy out of their own heart; and
prophesy thou against them,
Now, O son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who
prophesy out of their own imagination.
Prophesy against them
Your
kerchiefs also will I
tear, and deliver my people
out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be
hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will also
tear off your veils and deliver My people from your hands, so that they will no longer be prey in your hands. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice
divination. I will deliver My people from your hands. Then you will know that I am the LORD.”
And if the prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have
deceived that prophet, and I will stretch
out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
But if the prophet is
enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who
enticed him, and I will stretch
out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I stretch
out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
Or if I send a
pestilence into that land, and pour
out my
fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
Or if I send a plague into that land and pour
out My wrath upon it through
bloodshed, cutting off from it both man and beast,
Yet, behold, therein shall be left a
remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.
Yet, behold, some survivors will be left in it—sons and daughters who will be brought
out. They will come
out to you, and when you see their conduct and actions, you will be comforted regarding the
disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem—all that I have brought upon it.
And I will set my face against them; they shall go
out from one fire, and another fire shall
devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.
And I will set My face against them. Though they may have escaped the fire, yet another fire will
consume them. And when I set My face against them, you will know that I am the LORD.
None eye
pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have
compassion upon thee; but thou
wast cast
out in the open field, to the
lothing of thy person, in the day that thou
wast born.
No one cared enough for you to do even one of these things
out of
compassion for you. Instead, you were thrown
out into the open field, because you were
despised on the day of your birth.
But thou
didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the
harlot because of thy
renown, and pouredst
out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
But because of your fame, you trusted in your beauty and played the
harlot. You
lavished your favors on
everyone who passed by, and your beauty was theirs for the asking.
Behold, therefore I have stretched
out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that
hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are
ashamed of thy
lewd way.
Therefore I stretched
out My hand against you and reduced your portion. I gave you over to the desire of those who
hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were
ashamed of your
lewd conduct.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy
filthiness was poured
out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou
didst give unto them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: Because you poured
out your wealth and exposed your nakedness in your
promiscuity with your lovers and with all your
detestable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you gave to them,
He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a
willow tree.
He took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil; he placed it by abundant waters and set it
out like a
willow.
