And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock
Rimmon, and to call
peaceably unto them.
Then the whole congregation sent a message of
peace to the Benjamites who were at the rock of
Rimmon.
Then
Eli answered and said, Go in
peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
“Go in
peace,”
Eli replied, “and may the God of Israel grant the petition you have asked of Him.”
And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from
Ekron even unto
Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was
peace between Israel and the
Amorites.
The cities from
Ekron to
Gath, which the Philistines had taken, were restored to Israel, who also delivered the surrounding territory from the hand of the Philistines. And there was
peace between the Israelites and the
Amorites.
And thou shalt go down before me to
Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of
peace offerings: seven days shalt thou
tarry, till I come to thee, and
shew thee what thou shalt do.
And you shall go before me to
Gilgal, and surely I will come to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice
peace offerings. Wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”
But the children of
Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they
despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his
peace.
But some worthless men said, “How can this man save us?” So they
despised him and brought him no gifts; but Saul remained silent about it.
And all the people went to
Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in
Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of
peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel
rejoiced greatly.
So all the people went to
Gilgal and confirmed Saul as king in the presence of the LORD. There they sacrificed
peace offerings before the LORD, and Saul and all the Israelites
rejoiced greatly.
And Saul said, Bring
hither a burnt offering to me, and
peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered up the burnt offering.
And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to
Bethlehem. And the elders of the town
trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou
peaceably?
So Samuel did what the LORD had said and went to
Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they
trembled and asked, “Do you come in
peace?”
“In
peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.
Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated
Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have
peace: but if he be very
wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.
If he says, ‘Good,’ then your servant is safe, but if he is
enraged, you will know he has evil intentions.
The LORD do so and much more to
Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will
shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in
peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
But if my father intends to bring evil on you, then may the LORD
punish me, and ever so severely, if I do not tell you and send you on your way in safety. May the LORD be with you, just as He has been with my father.
And, behold, I will send a
lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the
lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is
peace to thee, and no
hurt; as the LORD liveth.
Then I will send a boy and say, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ Now, if I expressly say to him, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you; bring them,’ then come, because as surely as the LORD lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.
And
Jonathan said to David, Go in
peace,
forasmuch as we have
sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and
Jonathan went into the city.
And
Jonathan said to David, “Go in
peace, for the two of us have
sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, ‘May the LORD be a witness between you and me, and between your descendants and mine
forever.’” Then David got up and departed, and
Jonathan went back into the city.
And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.
and say to him, ‘Long life to you, and peace to you and your house and to all that belongs to you.
So David received of her hand that which she had brought him, and said unto her, Go up in
peace to thine house; see, I have
hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.
Then David accepted from her hand what she had brought him, and he said to her, “Go home in
peace. See, I have
heeded your voice and granted your request.”
Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.
Therefore turn back now and go in peace, so that you will not do anything to displease the leaders of the Philistines.”
And
Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent
Abner away; and he went in
peace.
Then
Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed
Abner, and he went in
peace.
And, Behold, the servants of David and
Joab came from pursuing a
troop, and brought in a great
spoil with them: but
Abner was not with David in
Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in
peace.
Just then David’s soldiers and
Joab returned from a
raid, bringing with them a great
plunder. But
Abner was not with David in
Hebron because David had sent him on his way in
peace.
When
Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told
Joab, saying,
Abner the son of
Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in
peace.
When
Joab and all his troops arrived, he was informed, “
Abner son of
Ner came to see the king, who sent him on his way in
peace.”
And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Hosts.
And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were
smitten before Israel, they made
peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of
Ammon any more.
When all the kings who were subject to Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made
peace with Israel and became subject to them. So the Arameans were afraid to help the
Ammonites anymore.
And
Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy
peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained
desolate in her brother
Absalom’s house.
Her brother
Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your brother. Do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar lived as a
desolate woman in the house of her brother
Absalom.
And the king said unto him, Go in
peace. So he arose, and went to
Hebron.
“Go in
peace,” said the king. So
Absalom got up and went to
Hebron.
The king said also unto
Zadok the priest, Art not thou a
seer? return into the city in
peace, and your two sons with you,
Ahimaaz thy son, and
Jonathan the son of
Abiathar.
And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.
and bring all the people back to you as a
bride returning to her husband. You seek the life of only one man; then all the people will be at
peace.”
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in
peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left until the day he returned safely.
And Mephibosheth said unto the king,
Yea, let him take all,
forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in
peace unto his own house.
And Mephibosheth said to the king, “Instead, since my lord the king has safely come to his own house, let Ziba take it all!”
I am one of them that are
peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why
wilt thou
swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?
I am among the
peaceable and faithful in Israel, but you are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why would you
swallow up the LORD’s inheritance?”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and
peace offerings. Then the LORD answered the prayers on behalf of the land, and the plague upon Israel was
halted.
Moreover thou knowest also what
Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto
Abner the son of
Ner, and unto
Amasa the son of Jether, whom he
slew, and shed the blood of war in
peace, and put the blood of war upon his
girdle that was about his loins, and in his
shoes that were on his feet.
Moreover, you know what
Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to
Abner son of
Ner and
Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of the armies of Israel. He killed them in
peacetime to
avenge the blood of war. He
stained with the blood of war the belt around his
waist and the
sandals on his feet.
Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his
hoar head go down to the grave in
peace.
So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray head go down to
Sheol in
peace.
And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-
sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou
peaceably? And he said,
Peaceably.
Now Adonijah son of Haggith went to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, and she asked, “Do you come in
peace?” “
Yes, in
peace,” he replied.
Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of
Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be
peace for ever from the LORD.
Their blood will come back upon the heads of
Joab and his descendants
forever; but for David, his descendants, his house, and his throne, there shall be
peace from the LORD
forever.”
And Solomon
awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered
peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
Then Solomon
awoke, and indeed it had been a dream. So he returned to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and
peace offerings. Then he held a feast for all his servants.
For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
For Solomon had dominion over everything west of the Euphrates—over all the kingdoms from Tiphsah to
Gaza—and he had
peace on all sides.
And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was
peace between
Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him. There was
peace between
Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.
And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.
And Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the house of the LORD.
The same day did the king
hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the
peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the
peace offerings.
On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the
peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to contain all these offerings.
And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.
Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense with them before the LORD. So he completed the temple.
For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of
Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and
peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish at sea with
Hiram’s fleet, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and
peacocks.
And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
“If they have marched out in peace,” he said, “take them alive. Even if they have marched out for war, take them alive.”
And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in
peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in
peace.’”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I come in
peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in
peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, O people, every one of you.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take
heed, all you people!”
And the sons of the prophets that were at
Bethel came forth to
Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said,
Yea, I know it; hold ye your
peace.
Then the sons of the prophets at
Bethel came out to
Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you
today?” “
Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
And the sons of the prophets that were at
Jericho came to
Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered,
Yea, I know it; hold ye your
peace.
Then the sons of the prophets at
Jericho came up to
Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you
today?” “
Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.
“Go in
peace,” said
Elisha. But after
Naaman had traveled a short distance,
Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good
tidings, and we hold our
peace: if we
tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.
Finally, they said to one another, “We are not doing what is right.
Today is a day of good news. If we are silent and wait until morning light, our sin will overtake us. Now, therefore, let us go and tell the king’s household.”
And there stood a
watchman on the tower in
Jezreel, and he
spied the company of
Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And
Joram said, Take an
horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it
peace?
Now the
watchman standing on the tower in
Jezreel saw
Jehu’s troops approaching, and he called out, “I see a company of troops!” “Choose a rider,”
Joram commanded. “Send him out to meet them and ask, ‘Have you come in
peace?’”
So there went one on
horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it
peace? And
Jehu said, What hast thou to do with
peace? turn thee behind me. And the
watchman told, saying, The
messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
So a
horseman rode off to meet
Jehu and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in
peace?’” “What do you know about
peace?”
Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.” And the
watchman reported, “The
messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.”
Then he sent out a second on
horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it
peace? And
Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with
peace? turn thee behind me.
So the king sent out a second
horseman, who went to them and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in
peace?’” “What do you know about
peace?”
Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
And it came to pass, when
Joram saw
Jehu, that he said, Is it
peace,
Jehu? And he answered, What
peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother
Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
And as
Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri
peace, who
slew his master?
And as
Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in
peace, O Zimri, murderer of your master?”
and he burnt his burnt offering and his meat offering, and poured his drink offering, and
sprinkled the blood of his
peace offerings, upon the altar.
He offered his burnt offering and his grain offering, poured out his drink offering, and
sprinkled the blood of his
peace offerings on the altar.
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his
cistern:
Do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make
peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did not answer a word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do not answer him.”
By the messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my
chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of
Lebanon, and will cut down the tall
cedar trees thereof, and the choice
fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his
Carmel.
Through your servants you have
taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many
chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote
peaks of
Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its
cypresses. I have reached its
farthest outposts, the densest of its forests.
Then said
Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if
peace and truth be in my days?
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Will there not at least be
peace and security in my lifetime?”
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in
peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and
peaceable; for they of
Ham had dwelt there of old.
There they found rich, good pasture, and the land was
spacious,
peaceful, and quiet; for some Hamites had lived there formerly.
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in
peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”
Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of
Jesse:
peace,
peace be unto thee, and
peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, O David! We are with you, O son of
Jesse!
Peace,
peace to you, and
peace to your helpers, for your God helps you.” So David received them and made them leaders of his troops.
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
So they brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made
peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of
Ammon any more.
When Hadadezer’s subjects saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made
peace with David and became subject to him. So the Arameans were unwilling to help the
Ammonites anymore.
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called upon the LORD, who answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.
But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the
peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the
peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
For the king’s ships went to
Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of
Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and
peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish that went with
Hiram’s servants, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and
peacocks.
So
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Asa reigned in his place, and in his days the land was at
peace for ten years.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
And he built
fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
Because the land was at
peace,
Asa built fortified cities in Judah. In those days no one made war with him, because the LORD had given him rest.
And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.
Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in
peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in
peace.’”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I return in
peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in
peace, then hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, all ye people.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take
heed, all you people!”
And
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in
peace to Jerusalem.
When
Jehoshaphat king of Judah had returned safely to his home in Jerusalem,
So the realm of
Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
Then
Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at
peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.
And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.
Furthermore, the burnt offerings were abundant, along with the fat of the
peace offerings and the drink offerings for the burnt offerings. So the service of the house of the LORD was established.
And
Hezekiah spake
comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering
peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers.
And
Hezekiah encouraged all the Levites who performed
skillfully before the LORD. For seven days they
ate their assigned portion, sacrificing
fellowship offerings and giving
thanks to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for
peace offerings, to minister, and to give
thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD.
Hezekiah reestablished the divisions of the priests and Levites—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—for the burnt offerings and
peace offerings, for ministry, for giving
thanks, and for singing praises at the gates of the LORD’s dwelling.
And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed
thereon peace offerings and
thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.
Then he restored the altar of the LORD and sacrificed
peace offerings and
thank offerings on it, and he told Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in
peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the
scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river,
Peace, and at such a time.
Then the king sent this reply: To Rehum the commander, Shimshai the
scribe, and the rest of your associates living in Samaria and elsewhere in the region west of the Euphrates: Greetings.
They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto
Darius the king, all
peace.
The report they sent him read as follows: To King
Darius: All
peace.
Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto
Ezra the priest, a
scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect
peace, and at such a time.
Artaxerxes, king of kings. To
Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the Law of the God of heaven: Greetings.
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their
peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons
forever.’
And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
and said, “We have done our best to
buy back our Jewish brothers who were sold to foreigners, but now you are selling your own brothers, that they may be sold back to us!” But they remained silent, for they could find nothing to say.
So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your
peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye
grieved.
And the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, since
today is holy. Do not
grieve.”
Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a
pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.
Hangings of white and blue linen were fastened with cords of fine white and purple material to silver rings on the marble pillars. Gold and silver couches were arranged on a mosaic
pavement of
porphyry, marble, mother-of-
pearl, and other costly stones.
For if thou altogether holdest thy
peace at this time, then shall there
enlargement and
deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of
Ahasuerus, with words of
peace and truth,
And
Mordecai sent letters with words of
peace and truth to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of
Xerxes,
For
Mordecai the
Jew was next unto king
Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking
peace to all his seed.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was second only to King
Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews and highly favored by his many
kinsmen, seeking the good of his people and speaking
peace to all his countrymen.
For now should I have
lain still and been quiet, I should have
slept: then had I been at rest,
For now I would be lying down in
peace; I would be
asleep and at rest
For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you.
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in
peace; and thou shalt visit thy
habitation, and shalt not sin.
You will know that your tent is secure, and find nothing
amiss when
inspecting your home.
Should thy lies make men hold their
peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee
ashamed?
Oh that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
If only you would remain silent; for that would be your wisdom!
