He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest
places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what his fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and wealth on his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—but only for a time.
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall
place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
And in their place, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’
For Israel slideth back as a
backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large
place.
I will go and return to my
place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their
affliction they will seek me early.
Then I will return to My
place until they admit their guilt and seek My face; in their
affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”
For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up,
Memphis shall
bury them: the pleasant
places for their silver,
nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
For even if they
flee destruction, Egypt will gather them and
Memphis will
bury them. Their precious silver will be taken over by thistles, and thorns will overrun their tents.
Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a
meadow. But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.
The high
places also of
Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the
thorn and the
thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
The high
places of
Aven will be destroyed— it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”
And Ephraim is as an
heifer that is taught, and loveth to
tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to
ride; Judah shall
plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
Ephraim is a well-trained
heifer that loves to
thresh; but I will
place a yoke on her fair neck. I will
harness Ephraim, Judah will
plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
They shall
tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a
dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will
place them in their houses, saith the LORD.
They will come
trembling like birds from Egypt and like doves from the land of Assyria. Then I will settle them in their homes, declares the LORD.
The sorrows of a
travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the
place of the breaking forth of children.
Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the
womb.
Behold, I will raise them out of the
place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head:
Behold, I will
rouse them from the
places to which you sold them; I will return your
recompense upon your heads.
Behold, I am pressed under you, as a
cart is pressed that is full of
sheaves.
Behold, I am about to
crush you in your
place as with a
cart full of grain.
And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I
beset all your cities with cleanness of teeth and all your towns with lack of bread, yet you did not return to Me,” declares the LORD.
For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
For behold, He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind and reveals His thoughts to man, who turns the
dawn to darkness and strides on the heights of the earth— the LORD, the God of Hosts, is His name.”
And the high
places of Isaac shall be
desolate, and the
sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of
Jeroboam with the sword.
The high
places of Isaac will be deserted, and the
sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise up against the house of
Jeroboam with My sword.”
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
“In that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “the songs of the temple will turn to
wailing. Many will be the corpses,
strewn in silence everywhere!”
For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his
place, and will come down, and
tread upon the high
places of the earth.
For behold, the LORD comes forth from His dwelling
place; He will come down and
tread on the high
places of the earth.
And the mountains shall be
molten under him, and the valleys shall be
cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep
place.
The mountains will
melt beneath Him, and the valleys will split apart, like wax before the fire, like water
rushing down a slope.
For the
transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high
places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?
All this is for the
transgression of Jacob and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high
place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?
Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is
polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a
sore destruction.
Arise and depart, for this is not your
place of rest, because its
defilement brings destruction— a
grievous destruction!
Therefore shall
Zion for your sake be
plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high
places of the forest.
Therefore, because of you,
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.
But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
But with an
overwhelming flood He will make an end of
Nineveh and pursue His enemies into darkness.
He shall recount his
worthies: they shall
stumble in their walk; they shall make
haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.
He
summons his nobles; they
stumble as they advance. They race to its wall; the protective shield is set in
place.
Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding
place of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s
whelp, and none made them afraid?
Where is the lions’
lair or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and
lioness prowled with their cubs, with nothing to
frighten them away?
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their
place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
Woe to him that coveteth an evil
covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, to
place his nest on high and escape the hand of
disaster!
Sun and moon stood still in their
places at the
flash of Your flying arrows, at the brightness of Your
shining spear.
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
GOD the Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights! For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments.
I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the
remnant of
Baal from this
place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;
“I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all who dwell in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this
place every
remnant of
Baal, the names of the
idolatrous and pagan priests—
Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as
Sodom, and the children of
Ammon as
Gomorrah, even the breeding of
nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual
desolation: the residue of my people shall
spoil them, and the
remnant of my people shall possess them.
Therefore, as surely as I live,” declares the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, “surely Moab will be like
Sodom and the
Ammonites like
Gomorrah— a
place of weeds and salt pits, a perpetual wasteland. The
remnant of My people will
plunder them; the remainder of My nation will dispossess them.”
The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will
famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his
place, even all the isles of the heathen.
The LORD will be
terrifying to them when He starves all the gods of the earth. Then the nations of every shore will bow in worship to Him, each in its own
place.
This is the
rejoicing city that dwelt
carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a
desolation, a
place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and
wag his hand.
This carefree city that dwells securely, that thinks to herself: “I am it, and there is none besides me,” what a ruin she has become, a resting
place for beasts.
Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his
fist.
I said, Surely thou
wilt fear me, thou
wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off,
howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me and accept correction.’ Then her dwelling
place would not be cut off
despite all for which I punished her. But they rose early to corrupt all their deeds.
The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former, says the LORD of Hosts. And in this place I will provide peace, declares the LORD of Hosts.”
And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:
Now consider carefully from this day forward: Before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,
And I said, Let them set a fair
mitre upon his head. So they set a fair
mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
Then I said, “Let them put a clean
turban on his head.” So a clean
turban was
placed on his head, and they clothed him, as the angel of the LORD stood by.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou
wilt walk in my ways, and if thou
wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee
places to walk among these that stand by.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘If you walk in My ways and keep My instructions, then you will
govern My house and will also have charge of My courts; and I will give you a
place among these who are standing here.
And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
And you are to tell him that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Here is a man whose name is the Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
This is the burden of the word of the LORD against the land of Hadrach and Damascus its resting place— for the eyes of men and of all the tribes of Israel are upon the LORD—
And I will
strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to
place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.
I will
strengthen the house of Judah and save the house of Joseph. I will restore them because I have
compassion on them, and they will be as though I had not rejected them. For I am the LORD their God, and I will answer them.
I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of
Gilead and
Lebanon; and
place shall not be found for them.
I will bring them back from Egypt and gather them from Assyria. I will bring them to
Gilead and
Lebanon until no more room is found for them.
In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an
hearth of fire among the wood, and like a
torch of fire in a
sheaf; and they shall
devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own
place, even in Jerusalem.
On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a
firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming
torch among the
sheaves; they will
consume all the peoples around them on the right and on the left, while the people of Jerusalem remain secure there.
All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to
Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her
place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the
place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.
All the land from Geba to
Rimmon south of Jerusalem will be turned into a plain, but Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain in her
place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have been
devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be called the Land of Wickedness, and a people with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
All this took
place to
fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went
ahead of them until it stood over the
place where the Child was.
But when he heard that
Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being
warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of
Galilee:
But when he learned that
Archelaus was reigning in
Judea in
place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been
warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of
Galilee,
But when he saw many of the
Pharisees and
Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath
warned you to
flee from the wrath to come?
But when John saw many of the
Pharisees and
Sadducees coming to his
place of baptism, he said to them, “You
brood of vipers, who
warned you to
flee from the coming wrath?
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the
herd of
swine: and, behold, the whole
herd of
swine ran violently down a steep
place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
“Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole
herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters.
While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
While Jesus was saying these things, a
synagogue leader came and
knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and
place Your hand on her, and she will live.”
He said unto them, Give
place: for the
maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they
laughed him to
scorn.
“Go away,” He told them. “The
girl is not dead, but
asleep.” And they
laughed at Him.
But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.
But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he
healed them all;
Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that
place. Large crowds followed Him, and He
healed them all,
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through
arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
Some fell upon
stony places, where they had not much earth: and
forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. It
sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow.
But he that received the seed into
stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and
anon with joy receiveth it;
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
When Jesus had finished these parables, He withdrew from that place.
When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
When Jesus heard about John, He withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. But the crowds found out about it and followed Him on foot from the towns.
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert
place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and
buy themselves
victuals.
When evening came, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a
desolate place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so they can go to the villages and
buy themselves some food.”
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding region. People brought all the sick to Him
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and
Sidon.
Leaving that
place, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and
Sidon.
And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
The disciples replied, “Where in this
desolate place could we find enough bread to feed such a large crowd?”
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for
verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of
mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to
yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
“Because you have so little faith,” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a
mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples
rebuked them.
Then the little children were brought to Jesus for Him to
place His hands on them and pray for them. And the disciples
rebuked those who brought them.
And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
And after He had placed His hands on them, He went on from there.
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
This took
place to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
And love the
uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
They love the places of honor at banquets, the chief seats in the synagogues,
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in
divers places.
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
When ye therefore shall see the
abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy
place, (
whoso readeth, let him understand:)
So when you see standing in the holy
place ‘the
abomination of
desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand),
Then he will cut him to pieces and
assign him a
place with the hypocrites, where there will be
weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
He will place the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a
place called
Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray
yonder.
At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a
place called
Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
And they took counsel, and bought with them the
potter’s field, to
bury strangers in.
After
conferring together, they used the money to
buy the
potter’s field as a burial
place for foreigners.
And when they were come unto a
place called
Golgotha, that is to say, a
place of a skull,
And when they came to a
place called
Golgotha, which means The
Place of the Skull,
And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had
hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the
sepulchre, and departed.
and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut into the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance to the tomb and went away.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay.
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and
slipped out to a solitary
place to pray.
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert
places: and they came to him from every quarter.
But the man went out and openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary
places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.
And
forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the
swine: and the
herd ran violently down a steep
place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were
choked in the sea.
He gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the
herd of about two thousand
rushed down the steep bank into the sea and
drowned in the water.
And
besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be
healed; and she shall live.
and
pleaded with Him
urgently, “My little daughter is near death. Please come and
place Your hands on her, so that she will be
healed and live.”
And he said unto them, In what
place soever ye enter into an house, there
abide till ye depart from that
place.
And He told them, “When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that area.
And
whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence,
shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for
Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
If
anyone will not
welcome you or
listen to you,
shake the dust off your feet when you leave that
place, as a testimony against them.”
And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his
corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
When John’s disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and placed it in a tomb.
And he said unto them, Come ye
yourselves apart into a desert
place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
So they went away in a boat by themselves to a solitary place.
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
By now the hour was already late. So the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This is a
desolate place, and the hour is already late.
And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and
Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be
hid.
Jesus left that
place and went to the region of Tyre. Not wanting
anyone to know He was there, He entered a house, but was unable to escape their notice.
And they bring unto him one that was
deaf, and had an
impediment in his speech; and they
beseech him to put his hand upon him.
Some people brought to Him a man who was
deaf and hardly able to speak, and they
begged Jesus to
place His hand on him.
And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
His disciples replied, “Where in this
desolate place could
anyone find enough bread to feed all these people?”
And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had
spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then He
spit on the man’s eyes and
placed His hands on him. “Can you see anything?” He asked.
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Once again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and when he opened them his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly.
And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was
wont, he taught them again.
Then Jesus left that
place and went into the region of
Judea, beyond the Jordan. Again the crowds came to Him and He taught them, as was His custom.
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples
rebuked those that brought them.
Now people were bringing the little children to Jesus for Him to
place His hands on them, and the disciples
rebuked those who brought them.
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.
And they went their way, and found the
colt tied by the door without in a
place where two ways met; and they loose him.
