But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”
Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may
prolong your days in the land which ye shall
possess.
You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and
prosper and
prolong your days in the land that you will
possess.
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land
whither ye go to
possess it:
These are the commandments and statutes and ordinances that the LORD your God has
instructed me to teach you to follow in the land that you are about to enter and
possess,
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and
possess the good land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers,
Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may be well with you and that you may enter and
possess the good land that the LORD your God
swore to give your fathers,
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land
whither thou goest to
possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to
possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all peoples on the face of the earth.
All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and
possess the land which the LORD
sware unto your fathers.
You must carefully follow every commandment I am giving you
today, so that you may live and multiply, and enter and
possess the land that the LORD
swore to give your fathers.
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to
possess nations greater and mightier than
thyself, cities great and
fenced up to heaven,
Hear, O Israel:
Today you are about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities fortified to the heavens.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to
possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD
doth drive them out from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart,
dost thou go to
possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It is not because of your righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to
possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God is driving out these nations before you, to keep the promise He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.
Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and
possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor
hearkened to his voice.
And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh-barnea, He said, “Go up and possess the land that I have given you.” But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You neither believed Him nor obeyed Him.
And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and
possess the land, which I
sware unto their fathers to give unto them.
Then the LORD said to me, “Get up. Continue your journey
ahead of the people, that they may enter and
possess the land that I
swore to their fathers to give them.”
And what he did unto Dathan and
Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of
Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that was in their
possession, in the midst of all Israel:
and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and
Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and
swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.
Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and
possess the land,
whither ye go to
possess it;
You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you
today, so that you may have the strength to go in and
possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to
possess,
For the land,
whither thou goest in to
possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:
For the land that you are entering to
possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you
sowed your seed and
irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.
But the land,
whither ye go to
possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.
Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall
possess greater nations and mightier than
yourselves.
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in unto the land
whither thou goest to
possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount
Gerizim, and the
curse upon mount
Ebal.
When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to
possess, you are to
proclaim the blessing on Mount
Gerizim and the
curse on Mount
Ebal.
For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein.
For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you. When you take possession of it and settle in it,
These are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.
These are the statutes and ordinances you must be careful to follow all the days you live in the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess.
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are dispossessing have served their gods—
atop the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee,
whither thou goest to
possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land,
for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly
bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to
possess it:
There will be no poor among you, however, because the LORD will surely
bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to
possess as an inheritance,
That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and
inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Pursue justice, and justice alone, so that you may live, and you may possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,”
For these nations, which thou shalt
possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
Though these nations, which you will dispossess,
listen to conjurers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
then you are to set apart for
yourselves three cities within the land that the LORD your God is giving you to
possess.
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s
landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt
inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to
possess it.
You must not move your
neighbor’s boundary marker, which was set up by your ancestors to mark the inheritance you shall receive in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to
possess.
If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:
If one is found slain, lying in a field in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess, and it is not known who killed him,
Unto a stranger thou mayest
lend upon
usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not
lend upon
usury: that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land
whither thou goest to
possess it.
You may charge a foreigner interest, but not your brother, so that the LORD your God may
bless you in everything to which you put your hand in the land that you are entering to
possess.
And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his
pledge:
If he is a poor man, you must not go to sleep with the security in your possession;
Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to
possess it, that thou shalt
blot out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not
forget it.
When the LORD your God gives you rest from the enemies around you in the land that He is giving you to
possess as an inheritance, you are to
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not
forget!
And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and settle in it,
And the LORD hath
avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
And
today the LORD has proclaimed that you are His people and
treasured possession as He promised, that you are to keep all His commandments,
The LORD shall make the
pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land,
whither thou goest to
possess it.
The LORD will make the plague
cling to you until He has
exterminated you from the land that you are entering to
possess.
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD
rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will
rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to
nought; and ye shall be
plucked from off the land
whither thou goest to
possess it.
Just as it pleased the LORD to make you
prosper and multiply, so also it will please Him to
annihilate you and destroy you. And you will be uprooted from the land you are entering to
possess.
And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
And the LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers
possessed, and you will take
possession of it. He will cause you to
prosper and multiply more than your fathers.
In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in the land
whither thou goest to
possess it.
For I am commanding you
today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may
bless you in the land that you are entering to
possess.
I
denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not
prolong your days upon the land,
whither thou passest over Jordan to go to
possess it.
I declare to you
today that you will surely perish; you shall not
prolong your days in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to
possess.
The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
The LORD your God Himself will cross over
ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will dispossess them. Joshua will cross
ahead of you, as the LORD has said.
And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land
whither ye go over Jordan to
possess it.
Then their children who do not know the law will
listen and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to
possess.”
For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall
prolong your days in the land,
whither ye go over Jordan to
possess it.
For they are not idle words to you, because they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount
Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against
Jericho; and behold the land of
Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a
possession:
“Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount
Nebo, in the land of Moab across from
Jericho, and view the land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their own
possession.
Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.
the law that Moses gave us, the possession of the assembly of Jacob.
And of
Naphtali he said, O
Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD:
possess thou the west and the south.
Concerning
Naphtali he said: “
Naphtali is abounding with favor, full of the blessing of the LORD; he shall take
possession of the sea and the south.”
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you
victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to
possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to
possess it.
“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”
Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have
possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your
possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the
sunrising.
until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”
Israel hath
sinned, and they have also
transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the
accursed thing, and have also
stolen, and
dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
Israel has
sinned; they have
transgressed My covenant that I commanded them, and they have taken some of what was devoted to destruction. Indeed, they have
stolen and
lied, and they have put these things with their own
possessions.
Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel
smote, and
possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river
Arnon unto mount
Hermon, and all the plain on the east:
Now these are the kings of the land whom the Israelites struck down and whose lands they took beyond the Jordan to the east, from the
Arnon Valley to Mount
Hermon, including all the Arabah eastward:
Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel
smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a
possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh.
Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had struck them down and given their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh.
And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel
smote on this side Jordan on the west, from
Baal-
gad in the valley of
Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to
Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a
possession according to their divisions;
And these are the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered beyond the Jordan to the west, from
Baal-
gad in the Valley of
Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward
Seir (according to the allotments to the tribes of Israel, Joshua gave them as an inheritance
Now Joshua was old and
stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and
stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be
possessed.
Now Joshua was old and well along in years, and the LORD said to him, “You are old and well along in years, but very much of the land remains to be possessed.
And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of
Manasseh: and this was the
possession of the half tribe of the children of
Manasseh by their families.
This is what Moses had given to the clans of the half-tribe of
Manasseh, that is, to half the tribe of the descendants of
Manasseh:
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye
slack to go to
possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?
So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
And the coast of the children of
Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of
Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and
possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem,
Dan, after the name of
Dan their father.
(Later, when the territory of the Danites was lost to them, they went up and fought against Leshem, captured it, and put it to the sword. So they took
possession of Leshem, settled there, and renamed it after their father
Dan.)
But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to
Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his
possession.
But they had given the fields and villages around the city to
Caleb son of Jephunneh as his
possession.
All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.
For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites.
And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he
sware to give unto their fathers; and they
possessed it, and dwelt therein.
Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had
sworn to give their fathers, and they took
possession of it and settled in it.
And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.
And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.
Now to the one half of the tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given
possession in
Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
(To the half-tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given land in
Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
And the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of
Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan, to go unto the country of
Gilead, to the land of their
possession,
whereof they were
possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh left the Israelites at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan to return to their own land of
Gilead, which they had acquired according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
Notwithstanding, if the land of your
possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the
possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD’S tabernacle dwelleth, and take
possession among us: but
rebel not against the LORD, nor
rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God.
If indeed the land of your inheritance is unclean, then cross over to the land of the LORD’s
possession, where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take
possession of it among us. But do not
rebel against the LORD or against us by building for
yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.
And the LORD your God, he shall
expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall
possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.
The LORD your God will
push them out of your way and drive them out before you, so that you can take
possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.
And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and
Esau: and I gave unto
Esau mount
Seir, to
possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
and to Isaac I gave Jacob and
Esau. I gave
Esau Mount
Seir to
possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
And I brought you into the land of the
Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might
possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
Later, I brought you to the land of the
Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should
possess their land when I destroyed them before you.
And the LORD was with Judah; and he
drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had
chariots of iron.
The LORD was with Judah, and they took
possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had
chariots of iron.
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
After Joshua had dismissed the people, the Israelites went out to take possession of the land, each to his own inheritance.
And he gathered unto him the children of
Ammon and Amalek, and went and
smote Israel, and
possessed the city of palm trees.
And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?
But the leaders of Succoth asked, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your possession, that we should give bread to your army?”
And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did
upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are
weary?
And
Gideon went to the men of Succoth and said, “Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you
taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your
possession, that we should give bread to your
weary men?’”
And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they
smote them: so Israel
possessed all the land of the
Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
Then the LORD, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, who defeated them. So Israel took
possession of all the land of the
Amorites who inhabited that country,
And they
possessed all the coasts of the
Amorites, from
Arnon even unto
Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.
seizing all the land from the
Arnon to the
Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.
So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the
Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou
possess it?
Now since the LORD, the God of Israel, has driven out the
Amorites from before His people Israel, should you now
possess it?
Wilt not thou
possess that which
Chemosh thy god giveth thee to
possess? So
whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we
possess.
Do you not
possess whatever your god
Chemosh grants you? So also, we
possess whatever the LORD our God has granted us.
And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not
slothful to go, and to enter to
possess the land.
They answered, “Come on, let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and it is very good. Why would you fail to act? Do not
hesitate to go there and take
possession of the land!
So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.
Putting their small children, their
livestock, and their
possessions in front of them, they turned and departed.
And there was a man in Maon, whose
possessions were in
Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in
Carmel.
Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in
Carmel. He was a very wealthy man with a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in
Carmel.
And the man of God said unto the king, If thou
wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
But the man of God replied, “If you were to give me half your possessions, I still would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.
And it came to pass, when
Jezebel heard that
Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that
Jezebel said to
Ahab, Arise, take
possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for
Naboth is not alive, but dead.
When
Jezebel heard that
Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to
Ahab, “Get up and take
possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, who refused to give it to you for silver. For
Naboth is no longer alive, but dead.”
And it came to pass, when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, that
Ahab rose up to go down to the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, to take
possession of it.
And when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take
possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite.
Arise, go down to meet
Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the
vineyard of
Naboth,
whither he is gone down to
possess it.
“Get up and go down to meet
Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria. See, he is in the
vineyard of
Naboth, of which he has gone to take
possession.
And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken
possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs
licked the blood of
Naboth shall dogs
lick thy blood, even thine.
Tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Have you not murdered a man and seized his land?’ Then tell him that this is also what the LORD says: ‘In the place where the dogs
licked up the blood of
Naboth, there also the dogs will
lick up your blood—
yes, yours!’”
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from
Ava, and from
Hamath, and from
Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they
possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Then the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva,
Hamath, and
Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took
possession of Samaria and lived in its towns.
And their
possessions and habitations were,
Bethel and the towns thereof, and eastward Naaran, and westward
Gezer, with the towns thereof;
Shechem also and the towns thereof, unto
Gaza and the towns thereof:
Their holdings and settlements included
Bethel and its villages, Naaran to the east,
Gezer and its villages to the west, and
Shechem and its villages as far as Ayyah and its villages.
Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their
possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the
Nethinims.
Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and
possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of
valor.
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may
possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may
possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their
possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from
executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their
possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy
possession, which thou hast given us to
inherit.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.
Behold, with a great plague will the LORD
smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
So behold, the LORD is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a serious blow.
And they came up into Judah, and
brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save
Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
So they went to war against Judah, invaded it, and carried off all the
possessions found in the king’s palace, along with his sons and wives; not a son was left to him except
Jehoahaz, his youngest.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his
possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.
The king contributed from his own possessions for the regular morning and evening burnt offerings and for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, as written in the Law of the LORD.
Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
He made cities for himself, and he acquired herds of sheep and cattle in abundance, for God gave him very great wealth.
And thou,
Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
And you,
Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God which you
possess, are to
appoint magistrates and judges to judge all the people west of the Euphrates—all who know the laws of your God. And you are to teach these laws to
anyone who does not know them.
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of
Ahava, that we might
afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
And there by the
Ahava Canal I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our
possessions.
Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to
possess it, is an unclean land with the
filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
that You gave through Your servants the prophets, saying: ‘The land that you are entering to
possess is a land
polluted by the impurity of its peoples and the abominations with which they have filled it from end to end.
Also I
shook my
lap, and said, So God
shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he
shaken out, and
emptied. And all the congregation said,
Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
I also
shook out the folds of my
robe and said, “May God likewise
shake out of His house and
possession every man who does not keep this promise. May such a man be
shaken out and have nothing!” The whole assembly said, “
Amen,” and they praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
