Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will repay the man according to his work.”
The
sluggard is wiser in his own
conceit than seven men that can
render a reason.
The slacker is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer
discreetly.
He that covereth his sins shall not
prosper: but
whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
He who conceals his sins will not
prosper, but
whoever confesses and
renounces them will find mercy.
A time to
rend, and a time to
sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to
tear and a time to
mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be
stink; and instead of a
girdle a
rent; and instead of well set hair
baldness; and instead of a stomacher a
girding of
sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
Instead of
fragrance there will be a
stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of styled hair,
baldness; instead of fine clothing,
sackcloth; instead of beauty, shame.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be
renowned.
You will not join them in burial, since you have destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of the wicked will never again be mentioned.
Take counsel,
execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the
noonday; hide the outcasts;
bewray not him that wandereth.
“Give us counsel;
render a decision. Shelter us at
noonday with shade as dark as night. Hide the refugees; do not
betray the one who flees.
Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?
Who
planned this against Tyre, the
bestower of crowns, whose traders are princes, whose merchants are
renowned on the earth?
The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to
stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.
The LORD of Hosts
planned it, to
defile all its glorious beauty, to disgrace all the
renowned of the earth.
Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the
remembrance of thee.
Yes, we wait for You, O LORD; we walk in the path of Your judgments. Your name and
renown are the desire of our souls.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah, the son of
Asaph, the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes
rent, and told him the words of
Rabshakeh.
And it came to pass, when king
Hezekiah heard it, that he
rent his clothes, and covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
On hearing this report, King
Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on
sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall
renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will
renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not
faint.
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
“Be silent before Me, O islands, and let the peoples
renew their strength. Let them come forward and
testify; let us together draw near for judgment.
Thou art
wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou
wast not
grieved.
You are
wearied by your many journeys, but you did not say, “There is no hope!” You found
renewal of your strength; therefore you did not grow weak.
And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
They will rebuild the ancient ruins; they will restore the places long
devastated; they will
renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an
everlasting name?
who sent His glorious arm to lead them by the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to gain for Himself
everlasting renown,
Oh that thou wouldest
rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
If only You would
rend the heavens and come down, so that mountains would
quake at Your presence,
A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.
Hear the
uproar from the city;
listen to the voice from the temple! It is the voice of the LORD, repaying His enemies what they deserve!
For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his
chariots like a
whirlwind, to
render his anger with
fury, and his
rebuke with flames of fire.
And when thou art
spoiled, what
wilt thou do? Though thou clothest
thyself with
crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou
rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make
thyself fair; thy lovers will
despise thee, they will seek thy life.
For as the
girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to
cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s
waist, so I have made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah
cling to Me, declares the LORD, so that they might be My people for My
renown and praise and glory. But they did not
listen.
And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and
tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I
procure unto it.
So this city will bring Me
renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good I do for it. They will
tremble in
awe because of all the goodness and prosperity that I will provide for it.
Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
Yet in hearing all these words, the king and his servants did not become
frightened or
tear their garments.
That there came certain from
Shechem, from
Shiloh, and from Samaria, even
fourscore men, having their beards
shaven, and their clothes
rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
eighty men who had
shaved off their beards,
torn their garments, and cut themselves came from
Shechem,
Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and
frankincense for the house of the LORD.
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S
vengeance; he will
render unto her a recompence.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
And I will
render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of
Chaldea all their evil that they have done in
Zion in your sight, saith the LORD.
Before your very eyes I will repay Babylon and all the dwellers of
Chaldea for all the evil they have done in
Zion,” declares the LORD.
Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
You will pay them back what they deserve, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to
Yourself, O LORD, so we may return;
renew our days as of old,
Say unto them which
daub it with untempered
morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a
stormy wind shall
rend it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even
rend it with a
stormy wind in my
fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my
fury to
consume it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: In My wrath I will release a
windstorm, and in My anger torrents of rain and
hail will fall with destructive
fury.
And thy
renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my
comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was perfect in the
splendor I bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD.
But thou
didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the
harlot because of thy
renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
But because of your fame, you trusted in your beauty and played the
harlot. You
lavished your favors on
everyone who passed by, and your beauty was theirs for the asking.
The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and
renowned, all of them riding upon horses.
the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, the men of Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them—all desirable young men, governors and commanders, officers and men of
renown, mounted on horses.
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that
wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that
haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men— she who was powerful on the sea, along with her people, who imposed terror on all peoples!
When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou
didst break, and
rend all their shoulder: and when they
leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.
When Israel took hold of you with their hands, you
splintered,
tearing all their shoulders; when they
leaned on you, you broke, and their backs were
wrenched.
And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be
rent asunder, and
Noph shall have distresses daily.
And I will raise up for them a plant of
renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more.
And I will raise up for them a garden of
renown, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the
scorn of the nations.
Yea, all the people of the land shall
bury them; and it shall be to them a
renown the day that I shall be
glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
All the people of the land will
bury them, and it will bring them
renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD.
And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast
gotten thee
renown, as at this day; we have
sinned, we have done wickedly.
Now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and who made for
Yourself a name
renowned to this day, we have
sinned; we have acted wickedly.
Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his
memorial.
the LORD is the God of Hosts— the LORD is His name of
renown.
I will meet them as a bear that is
bereaved of her whelps, and will
rend the
caul of their heart, and there will I
devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall
tear them.
Like a bear
robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will
tear open their chests. There I will
devour them like a lion, like a wild beast would
tear them apart.
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us
graciously: so will we
render the
calves of our lips.
Bring your confessions and return to the LORD. Say to Him: “Take away all our iniquity and receive us
graciously, that we may present the fruit of our lips.
They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the
scent thereof shall be as the wine of
Lebanon.
They will return and dwell in his shade; they will grow grain and
blossom like the vine. His
renown will be like the wine of
Lebanon.
And
rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is
gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
So
rend your hearts and not your garments, and return to the LORD your God. For He is
gracious and
compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. And He relents from sending
disaster.
Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye
render me a recompence? and if ye
recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head;
Now what do you have against Me, O Tyre,
Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you
rendering against Me a
recompense? If you
retaliate against Me, I will swiftly and speedily return your
recompense upon your heads.
These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour;
execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another, render true and sound judgments in your gates,
Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
Return to your
stronghold, O prisoners of hope; even
today I declare that I will restore to you double.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before
swine, lest they
trample them under their feet, and turn again and
rend you.
Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before
swine. If you do, they may
trample them under their feet, and then turn and
tear you to pieces.
No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
No one sews a
patch of
unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the
patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse
tear will result.
And Jesus said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the
renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a
vineyard, and
hedged it round about, and
digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far country:
Listen to another parable: There was a
landowner who planted a
vineyard. He put a wall around it,
dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he
rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
They say unto him, He will
miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his
vineyard unto other
husbandmen, which shall
render him the fruits in their seasons.
“He will bring those wretches to a
wretched end,” they replied, “and will
rent out the
vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the fruit at harvest time.”
They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.
“Caesar’s,” they answered. So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
Then the high priest
rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken
blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his
blasphemy.
At this, the high priest
tore his clothes and declared, “He has
blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the
blasphemy.
And, behold, the
veil of the temple was
rent in
twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did
quake, and the rocks
rent;
At that moment the
veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom. The earth
quaked and the rocks were split.
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
No one sews a
patch of
unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, and a worse
tear will result.
And the spirit
cried, and
rent him
sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead;
insomuch that many said, He is dead.
After
shrieking and
convulsing him violently, the spirit came out. The boy became like a
corpse, so that many said, “He is dead.”
And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an
hedge about it, and
digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far country.
Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a
vineyard. He put a wall around it,
dug a wine
vat, and built a
watchtower. Then he
rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
And Jesus answering said unto them,
Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they
marvelled at him.
Then Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” And they
marveled at Him.
Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
At this, the high priest
tore his clothes and declared, “Why do we need any more witnesses?
And the
veil of the temple was
rent in
twain from the top to the bottom.
And the
veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom.
And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will
tear the new garment as well, and the
patch from the new will not
match the old.
Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a
vineyard, and let it forth to
husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
Then He proceeded to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a
vineyard,
rented it out to some tenants, and went away for a long time.
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.
So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
And the sun was
darkened, and the
veil of the temple was
rent in the midst.
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not
rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my
vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
So they said to one another, “Let us not
tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it.” This was to
fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the soldiers did.
Which when the apostles,
Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they
rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and
Silas, and the magistrates ordered that they be
stripped and beaten with rods.
And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own
hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
Paul stayed there two full years in his own
rented house,
welcoming all who came to visit him.
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
God “will repay each one according to his deeds.”
Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
We know that our old self was
crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be
rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Pay
everyone what you owe him: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
Let the husband
render unto the wife due
benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
The husband should
fulfill his
marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
Instead, we have
renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not practice
deceit, nor do we
distort the word of God. On the contrary, by open
proclamation of the truth, we
commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
For which cause we
faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is
renewed day by day.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
to be renewed in the spirit of your minds;
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
and have put on the new self, which is being
renewed in knowledge in the image of its
Creator.
For what
thanks can we
render to God again for you, for all the joy
wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
How can we adequately
thank God for you in return for our great joy over you in His presence?
See that none
render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among
yourselves, and to all men.
Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
It instructs us to
renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and
renewal by the Holy Spirit.
If they shall fall away, to
renew them again unto
repentance; seeing they
crucify to themselves the Son of God
afresh, and put him to an open shame.
and then have fallen away—to be restored to
repentance, because they themselves are
crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to open shame.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is
enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore,
whoever chooses to be a friend of the world
renders himself an enemy of God.
Not
rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but
contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are
thereunto called, that ye should
inherit a blessing.
Do not repay evil with evil or
insult with
insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may
inherit a blessing.
And as soon as I had heard these things, I
rent my clothes, and the holy garment, and pulled off the hair from off my head and
beard, and sat me down
sad and very heavy.
Then rising up from the fast with my clothes and the holy garment rent, and bowing my knees, and stretching forth my hands unto the Lord,
And when I spake these things in my heart, I looked back with mine eyes, and upon the right side I saw a woman, and, behold, she
mourned and
wept with a loud voice, and was much
grieved in heart, and her clothes were
rent, and she had ashes upon her head.
In his last days shall the most High raise up three kingdoms, and renew many things therein, and they shall have the dominion of the earth,
Now therefore set thine house in order, and reprove thy people, comfort such of them as be in trouble, and now
renounce corruption,
And when it was in my house, and began to cry, I said unto her, From whence is this
kid? is it not
stolen?
render it to the owners; for it is not lawful to eat any thing that is
stolen.
But she replied upon me, It was given for a gift more than the wages.
Howbeit I did not believe her, but
bade her
render it to the owners: and I was
abashed at her. But she replied upon me, Where are thine
alms and thy righteous deeds? behold, thou and all thy works are known.
Thus shalt thou
render them an evil reward; because they rebelled, and met not thy person
peaceably.
And now thou art both beautiful in thy countenance, and
witty in thy words: surely if thou do as thou hast spoken thy God shall be my God, and thou shalt dwell in the house of king Nabuchodonosor, and shalt be
renowned through the whole earth.
Therefore he
cried with a loud voice, with
weeping, and
sighing, and a mighty cry, and
rent his garments.
When the captains of the Assyrians’ army heard these words, they rent their coats and their minds were wonderfully troubled, and there was a cry and a very great noise throughout the camp.
After that I became lord over many nations and had dominion over the whole world, not lifted up with
presumption of my authority, but carrying myself always with
equity and mildness, I purposed to settle my subjects continually in a quiet life, and making my kingdom peaceable, and open for passage to the utmost coasts, to
renew peace, which is desired of all men.
For he that was the worker of these things, is
hanged at the gates of
Susa with all his family: God, who ruleth all things, speedily
rendering vengeance to him according to his deserts.
For he shall
rend them, and cast them down
headlong, that they shall be speechless; and he shall
shake them from the foundation; and they shall be utterly laid waste, and be in sorrow; and their
memorial shall perish.
