Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return?
Why then is this people of Jerusalem
slidden back by a perpetual
backsliding? they hold fast
deceit, they refuse to
return.
Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They
cling to
deceit; they refuse to
return.
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
And it shall come to pass, after that I have
plucked them out I will
return, and have
compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his
heritage, and every man to his land.
But after I have uprooted them, I will once again have
compassion on them and
return each one to his inheritance and to his land.
And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they
returned with their vessels empty; they were
ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
The nobles send their servants for water; they go to the cisterns, but find no water; their jars
return empty. They are
ashamed and
humiliated; they cover their heads.
And I will
fan them with a
fan in the gates of the land; I will
bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they
return not from their ways.
I will
scatter them with a
winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will
bereave and destroy My people who have not turned from their ways.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou
return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the
vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them
return unto thee; but
return not thou unto them.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you
return, I will restore you; you will stand in My presence. And if you speak words that are noble instead of worthless, you will be My
spokesman. It is they who must turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you:
return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
Then came Jeremiah from
Tophet,
whither the LORD had sent him to
prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’S house; and said to all the people,
Then Jeremiah
returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to
prophesy, and he stood in the
courtyard of the house of the LORD and proclaimed to all the people,
He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that
besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who
besiege you will live; he will
retain his life like a
spoil of war.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall
return no more, nor see his native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never
return to see his native land.
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of
Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of
Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not
return thither any more:
For this is what the LORD says concerning Shallum son of
Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father
Josiah but has gone forth from this place: “He will never
return,
But to the land
whereunto they desire to
return, thither shall they not
return.
You will never return to the land for which you long.”
And I will gather the
remnant of my flock out of all countries
whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
Then I Myself will gather the
remnant of My flock from all the lands to which I have banished them, and I will
return them to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and multiply.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this clearly.
The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the
chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.
Let the prophet who has a dream retell it, but let him who has My word speak it truthfully. For what is straw compared to grain?” declares the LORD.
Behold, I am against them that
prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to
err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
“Indeed,” declares the LORD, “I am against those who
prophesy false dreams and
retell them to lead My people
astray with their
reckless lies. It was not I who sent them or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all to these people,” declares the LORD.
For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not
pluck them up.
I will keep My eyes on them for good and will
return them to this land. I will build them up and not
tear them down; I will plant them and not
uproot them.
And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. They will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with all their heart.
For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
For this is what the LORD says: “When Babylon’s seventy years are complete, I will attend to you and
confirm My promise to restore you to this place.
For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from
afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall
return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the
lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall
return thither.
Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the
farthest parts of the earth, including the blind and the
lame,
expectant mothers and women in labor. They will
return as a great assembly!
Thus saith the LORD;
Refrain thy voice from
weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
This is what the LORD says: “Keep your voice from
weeping and your eyes from tears, for the reward for your work will come, declares the LORD. Then your children will
return from the land of the enemy.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
I have surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.
I have surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may
return, for You are the LORD my God.
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in mind, the road you have traveled.
Return, O Virgin Israel,
return to these cities of yours.
Behold, I will gather them out of all countries,
whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my
fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
I will surely gather My people from all the lands to which I have banished them in My
furious anger and great wrath, and I will
return them to this place and make them dwell in safety.
Men shall
buy fields for money, and
subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to
return, saith the LORD.
Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah—the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev—because I will restore them from captivity, declares the LORD.”
And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
I will restore Judah and Israel from captivity and will rebuild them as in former times.
The voice of joy, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to
return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.
the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing
thank offerings into the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give
thanks to the LORD of Hosts, for the LORD is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.’ For I will restore the land from captivity as in former times, says the LORD.
Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.
then I would also
reject the descendants of Jacob and of My servant David, so as not to take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore them from captivity and will have
compassion on them.”
But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
But ye turned and
polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to
return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to
return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation without an inhabitant.
Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation, without inhabitant.”
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying,
Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may
return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
It may be they will present their
supplication before the LORD, and will
return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the
fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each one will turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and
fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people.”
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to
enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall
return to Egypt into their own land.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says that you are to tell the king of Judah, who sent you to Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to help you, will go back to its own land of Egypt.
And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
Then the Chaldeans will return and fight against this city. They will capture it and burn it down.
Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my
supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to
return to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, lest I die there.
But now please
listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, or I will die there.”
Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
“This is what the LORD says:
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever surrenders to the Chaldeans will live; he will
retain his life like a
spoil of war, and he will live.
Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my
supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to
return to
Jonathan’s house, to die there.
then tell them, ‘I was presenting to the king my petition that he not
return me to the house of
Jonathan to die there.’”
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “
Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
Even all the Jews
returned out of all places
whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto
Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.
they all
returned from all the places to which they had been banished and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. And they gathered an abundance of wine grapes and summer fruit.
So all the people that
Ishmael had carried away
captive from
Mizpah cast about and
returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
and all the people whom
Ishmael had taken
captive at
Mizpah turned and went over to Johanan son of Kareah.
And I will
shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to
return to your own land.
And I will show you
compassion, and he will have
compassion on you and restore you to your own land.’
But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the
remnant of Judah, that were
returned from all nations,
whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;
Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces took the whole
remnant of Judah, those who had
returned to the land of Judah from all the nations to which they had been scattered,
So that none of the
remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should
return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to
return to dwell there: for none shall
return but such as shall escape.
so that none of the
remnant of Judah who have gone to reside in Egypt will escape or
survive to
return to the land of Judah, where they long to
return and live; for none will
return except a few fugitives.”
Yet a small number that escape the sword shall
return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the
remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to
sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.
Those who escape the sword will
return from Egypt to Judah, few in number, and the whole
remnant of Judah who went to dwell in the land of Egypt will know whose word will stand, Mine or theirs!
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled
apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Why am I seeing this? They are
terrified, they are
retreating; their warriors are defeated, they
flee in
haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us
return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall
return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be
ere thou be quiet? put up
thyself into thy
scabbard, rest, and be still.
‘
Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest?
Return to your
sheath; cease and be still!’
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall
return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not
return empty-handed.
And I will bring Israel again to his
habitation, and he shall feed on
Carmel and
Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and
Gilead.
I will
return Israel to his pasture, and he will
graze on
Carmel and
Bashan; his soul will be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and
Gilead.
And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be
desolate for ever, saith the LORD.
No one shall
retrieve from you a cornerstone or a foundation stone, because you will become
desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
Because the
spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.
For a destroyer is coming against her— against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken, for the LORD is a God of
retribution; He will repay in full.
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to
Yourself, O LORD, so we may
return; renew our days as of old,
And the living creatures ran and
returned as the appearance of a
flash of
lightning.
For the seller shall not
return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not
return; neither shall any
strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.
The seller will surely not recover what he sold while both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be
revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life.
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have
returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the
detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.
When they
return to it, they will remove all its
detestable things and all its abominations.
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous
sad, whom I have not made
sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not
return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Because you have
disheartened the righteous with your lies, even though I have caused them no grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their lives,
When thy sisters,
Sodom and her daughters, shall
return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall
return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall
return to your former estate.
And your sisters,
Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will
return to their former state. You and your daughters will also
return to your former state.
He does not
oppress another, or
retain a
pledge, or commit
robbery. He gives his bread to the
hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I
prefer that he turn from his ways and live?
That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his
sheath: it shall not
return any more.
Then all flesh will know that I, the LORD, have taken My sword from its
sheath, not to
return it again.’
Shall I cause it to
return into his
sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou
wast created, in the land of thy
nativity.
Return the sword to its
sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to
return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their
habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom.
I will restore Egypt from captivity and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom.
Thus will I make mount
Seir most
desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that
returneth.
I will make Mount
Seir a
desolate waste and will cut off from it those who come and go.
I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will make you a perpetual
desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it.
When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts,
whoever enters by the north gate to worship must go out by the south gate, and
whoever enters by the south gate must go out by the north gate. No one is to
return through the gate by which he entered, but each must go out by the opposite gate.
But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his to the year of liberty; after it shall return to the prince: but his inheritance shall be his sons’ for them.
But if he gives a gift from his inheritance to one of his servants, it will belong to that servant until the year of freedom; then it will
revert to the prince. His inheritance belongs only to his sons; it shall be theirs.
And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to
return to the
brink of the river.
“Son of man, do you see this?” he asked. Then he led me back to the bank of the river.
Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
When I arrived, I saw a great number of trees along both banks of the river.
Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah, his companions:
Then Daniel
returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah,
And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding
returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
But at the end of those days I,
Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my
sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and
glorified Him who lives
forever: “For His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
At the same time my
sanity was restored, my honor and
splendor returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne, and
surpassing greatness was added to me.
Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my
comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I
retained no strength.
So I was left alone,
gazing at this great vision. No strength remained in me; my face grew deathly pale, and I was powerless.
And, behold, one like the
similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have
retained no strength.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and said to the one standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am overcome with
anguish, and I have no strength.
Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I
return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of
Grecia shall come.
“Do you know why I have come to you?” he said. “I must return at once to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I have gone forth, behold, the prince of Greece will come.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not
retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But his daughter will not
retain her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land.
who will
invade the realm of the king of the South and then
return to his own land.
But his sons shall be
stirred up, and shall
assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he
return, and be
stirred up, even to his fortress.
For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches.
For the king of the North will raise another army, larger than the first, and after some years he will advance with a great army and many supplies.
Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
The king of the North will return to his land with great wealth, but his heart will be set against the holy covenant; so he will do damage and return to his own land.
At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.
At the appointed time he will
invade the South again, but this time will not be like the first.
For the ships of
Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be
grieved, and
return, and have
indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even
return, and have intelligence with them that
forsake the holy covenant.
Ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and
rage against the holy covenant and do damage. So he will
return and show favor to those who
forsake the holy covenant.
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
Therefore I will take back My grain in its time and My new wine in its season; I will take away My wool and linen, which were given to cover her nakedness.
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
Afterward, the people of Israel will
return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come
trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days.
They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.
Their deeds do not permit them to
return to their God, for a spirit of
prostitution is within them, and they do not know the LORD.
I will go and
return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their
affliction they will seek me early.
Then I will
return to My place until they admit their guilt and seek My face; in their
affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”
Come, and let us
return unto the LORD: for he hath
torn, and he will
heal us; he hath
smitten, and he will bind us up.
Come, let us
return to the LORD. For He has
torn us to pieces, but He will
heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bind up our wounds.
Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
Also for you, O Judah, a harvest is appointed, when I restore My people from captivity.
