river becomes
parched and dry,

rivers, the floods, the
brooks of honey and butter.

rivers flowing with honey and
cream.

rivers among the rocks; and his eye

river rages,

enrich it. The streams of God are full of water, for You prepare our grain by providing for the earth.

brook of Kison:
Do to them as You did to
Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the

clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
Let the
rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy

rivers into deserts, springs of water into
thirsty ground,

rivers of Babylon, there we sat down,
yea, we
wept, when we remembered
Zion.

wept when we remembered
Zion.

dispersed abroad, and
rivers of waters in the streets.

Many waters cannot
quench love, neither can the floods
drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be
contemned.
Mighty waters cannot
quench love;
rivers cannot
sweep it away. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love, his offer would be utterly
scorned.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the
uttermost part of the
rivers of Egypt, and for the
bee that is in the land of Assyria.
On that day the LORD will
whistle to the
flies at the
farthest streams of the Nile and to the bees in the land of Assyria.
In the same day shall the Lord
shave with a
razor that is
hired, namely, by them beyond the
river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also
consume the
beard.
On that day the Lord will use a
razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the king of Assyria—to
shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your
beard as well.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

pomp. It will overflow its channels and overrun its banks.
And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he
shake his hand over the
river, and shall
smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over
dryshod.
The LORD will
devote to destruction the gulf of the Sea of Egypt; with a
scorching wind He will
sweep His hand over the Euphrates. He will split it into seven streams for men to cross with dry
sandals.
Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the
rivers of
Ethiopia:
That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and
peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and
trodden down, whose land the
rivers have
spoiled!
which sends couriers by sea, in
papyrus vessels on the waters. Go, swift messengers, to a people tall and smooth-
skinned, to a people widely feared, to a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by
rivers.
In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and
peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and
trodden under foot, whose land the
rivers have
spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount
Zion.
At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts— from a people tall and smooth-
skinned, from a people widely feared, from a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by
rivers— to Mount
Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.
And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.

riverbed will be
parched and empty.
And they shall turn the
rivers far away; and the
brooks of defence shall be
emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.

stink; the streams of Egypt will
trickle and dry up; the reeds and rushes will wither.
The paper reeds by the
brooks, by the mouth of the
brooks, and every thing sown by the
brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.
The bulrushes by the Nile, by the mouth of the river, and all the fields sown along the Nile, will wither, blow away, and be no more.
And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the
river, is her revenue; and she is a
mart of nations.

Pass through thy land as a
river, O daughter of
Tarshish: there is no more strength.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.
In that day the LORD will
thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, O Israelites, will be gathered one by one.
And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
And from every high mountain and every raised hill, streams of water will flow in the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall.
And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a
covert from the
tempest; as
rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a
weary land.
Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in a dry land, like the shadow of a great rock in an
arid land.
But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad
rivers and streams; wherein shall go no
galley with oars, neither shall
gallant ship pass thereby.
But there the
Majestic One, our LORD, will be for us a place of
rivers and wide canals, where no
galley with oars will row, and no
majestic vessel will pass.
I have
digged, and
drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the
rivers of the besieged places.
I have
dug wells and
drunk foreign waters. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”
I will open
rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a
pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
I will open
rivers on the barren heights, and fountains in the middle of the valleys. I will turn the desert into a
pool of water, and the dry land into flowing springs.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I will turn the
rivers into dry land and
drain the marshes.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the
rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the
rivers, they will not
overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be
scorched; the flames will not set you
ablaze.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
The beast of the field shall honour me, the
dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and
rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I provide water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.
That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
who says to the depths of the sea, ‘Be dry, and I will dry up your currents,’
Take the millstones, and
grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the
thigh, pass over the
rivers.
Take millstones and
grind flour; remove your
veil; strip off your
skirt, bare your
thigh, and
wade through the streams.
O that thou hadst
hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a
river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
If only you had paid attention to My commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like waves of the sea.
Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand
shortened at all, that it cannot
redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my
rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the
rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for
thirst.
Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to
redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My
rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the
rivers into a desert; the fish
rot for lack of water and die of
thirst.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a
river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye
suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be
dandled upon her knees.
For this is what the LORD says: “I will extend peace to her like a
river, and the wealth of nations like a flowing stream; you will
nurse and be carried on her arm, and
bounced upon her knees.
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
Now what will you gain on your way to Egypt to drink the waters of the Nile? What will you gain on your way to Assyria to drink the waters of the Euphrates?
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the
river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
They shall come with
weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the
rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not
stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
They will come with
weeping, and by their
supplication I will lead them; I will make them walk beside streams of waters, on a level path where they will not
stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My
firstborn.”
Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-
necho king of Egypt, which was by the
river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
smote in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah.
concerning Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates
River by
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah:
Let not the swift
flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall
stumble, and fall toward the north by the
river Euphrates.
“The swift cannot
flee, and the
warrior cannot escape! In the north by the
River Euphrates they
stumble and fall.
Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
Who is this, rising like the Nile, like
rivers whose waters
churn?
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters
churn like
rivers,
boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’
For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of
vengeance, that he may
avenge him of his
adversaries: and the sword shall
devour, and it shall be
satiate and made
drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the
river Euphrates.
For that day belongs to the Lord GOD of Hosts, a day of
vengeance against His foes. The sword will
devour until it is satisfied, until it is
quenched with their blood. For the Lord GOD of Hosts will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the
River Euphrates.
Their heart
cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a
river day and night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.
The hearts of the people cry out to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of
Zion, let your tears run down like a
river day and night. Give
yourself no relief, and your eyes no rest.
Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Streams of tears flow from my eyes over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the
captives by the
river of
Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
In the
thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was among the exiles by the
River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.
The word of the LORD came expressly unto
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the
river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.
the word of the LORD came directly to
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the
River Kebar. And there the LORD’s hand was upon him.
Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-
abib, that dwelt by the
river of
Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there
astonished among them seven days.
I came to the exiles at Tel-
abib who dwelt by the
River Kebar. And for seven days I sat where they sat and remained there among them,
overwhelmed.
Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the
river of
Chebar: and I fell on my face.
So I got up and went out to the plain, and behold, the glory of the LORD was present there, like the glory I had seen by the River Kebar, and I fell facedown.
And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
You are to say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the
river of
Chebar.
Then the
cherubim rose upward. These were the living creatures I had seen by the
River Kebar.
This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the
river of
Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims.
These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the
River Kebar, and I knew that they were
cherubim.
And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the
river of
Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward.
Their faces looked like the faces I had seen by the
River Kebar. Each creature went straight
ahead.
Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great
dragon that lieth in the midst of his
rivers, which hath said, My
river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.
Speak to him and tell him that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great
monster who lies among his
rivers, who says, ‘The Nile is mine; I made it myself.’
But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales.
But I will put hooks in your jaws and cause the fish of your streams to
cling to your scales. I will
haul you up out of your
rivers, and all the fish of your streams will
cling to your scales.
And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
I will leave you in the desert, you and all the fish of your streams. You will fall on the open field and will not be taken away or gathered for burial. I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air.
And the land of Egypt shall be
desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The
river is mine, and I have made it.
The land of Egypt will become a
desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because you said, ‘The Nile is mine; I made it,’
Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy
rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and
desolate, from the tower of
Syene even unto the border of
Ethiopia.
therefore I am against you and against your
rivers. I will turn the land of Egypt into a ruin, a
desolate wasteland from
Migdol to
Syene, and as far as the border of
Cush.
And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it.
I will make the streams dry up and sell the land to the wicked. By the hands of foreigners I will bring
desolation upon the land and everything in it. I, the LORD, have spoken.
The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
The waters made it grow; the deep springs made it tall, directing their streams all around its base and sending their channels to all the trees of the field.
And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
Foreigners, the most
ruthless of the nations, cut it down and left it. Its branches have fallen on the mountains and in every valley; its boughs lay broken in all the earth’s ravines. And all the peoples of the earth left its shade and abandoned it.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused
Lebanon to
mourn for him, and all the trees of the field
fainted for him.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘On the day it was brought down to
Sheol, I caused
mourning. I covered the deep because of it; I held back its
rivers; its abundant waters were restrained. I made
Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field
fainted because of it.
Son of man, take up a
lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a
whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy
rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their
rivers.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a
monster in the seas. You
thrash about in your
rivers,
churning up the waters with your feet and
muddying the streams.’
I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.
I will
drench the land with the flow of your blood, all the way to the mountains— the ravines will be filled.
Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD.
Then I will let her waters settle and will make her rivers flow like oil,’ declares the Lord GOD.
And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
I will bring them out from the peoples, gather them from the countries, and bring them into their own land. I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines, and in all the settlements of the land.
And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.
I will fill its mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines.
Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the
rivers, and to the valleys, to the
desolate wastes, and to the cities that are
forsaken, which became a prey and
derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about;
therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the
desolate ruins and abandoned cities, which have become a
spoil and a
mockery to the rest of the nations around you.
Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the
rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my
fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen:
Therefore,
prophesy concerning the land of Israel and tell the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I have spoken in My burning zeal because you have
endured the reproach of the nations.
And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the
river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.
The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when He came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the River Kebar. I fell facedown,
Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a
river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to
swim in, a
river that could not be passed over.
Once again he measured off a thousand cubits, but now it was a
river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough for
swimming—a
river that could not be crossed on foot.
And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the
brink of the
river.
“Son of man, do you see this?” he asked. Then he led me back to the bank of the river.
Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
When I arrived, I saw a great number of trees along both banks of the river.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth,
whithersoever the
rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be
healed; and every thing shall live
whither the
river cometh.
Wherever the
river flows, there will be swarms of living creatures and a great number of fish, because it flows there and makes the waters fresh; so wherever the
river flows, everything will
flourish.
And by the
river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Along both banks of the
river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be used for food and their leaves for
healing.”
And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of
strife in Kadesh, the
river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.
On the south side it will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, and along the
Brook of Egypt to the Great Sea. This will be the southern boundary.
And by the border of
Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar unto the waters of
strife in Kadesh, and to the
river toward the great sea.
The southern border of
Gad will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then along the
Brook of Egypt and out to the Great Sea.
