And it came to pass in the
eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me,
saying,
In the
eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month, the word of the LORD came to me,
saying,
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.
And it came to pass in the
eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me,
saying,
In the
eleventh year, on the first day of the third month, the word of the LORD came to me,
saying,
Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his multitude: ‘Who can be compared to your greatness?
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up
thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Since it became great in height and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused
Lebanon to
mourn for him, and all the trees of the field
fainted for him.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘On the day it was brought down to
Sheol, I caused
mourning. I covered the deep because of it; I held back its rivers; its abundant waters were restrained. I made
Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field
fainted because of it.
And it came to pass in the
twelfth year, in the
twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me,
saying,
In the
twelfth year, on the first day of the
twelfth month, the word of the LORD came to me,
saying,
Son of man, take up a
lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and
say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a
whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and
say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a
monster in the seas. You
thrash about in your rivers,
churning up the waters with your feet and
muddying the streams.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will spread My net over you with a company of many peoples, and they will draw you up in My net.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘The sword of the king of Babylon will come against you!
It came to pass also in the
twelfth year, in the
fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me,
saying,
In the
twelfth year, on the
fifteenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me,
saying,
Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and
say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their
watchman:
“Son of man, speak to your people and tell them: ‘Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land choose a man from among them,
appointing him as their
watchman,
When I
say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I
say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to
dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will hold you accountable for his blood.
Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
Now as for you, son of man, tell the house of Israel that this is what they have said: ‘Our transgressions and our sins are heavy upon us, and we are wasting away because of them! How can we live?’
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Say to them: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked should turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
Therefore, thou son of man,
say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his
transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
Therefore, son of man,
say to your people: ‘The righteousness of the righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his
transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked man cause him to
stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. Nor will the righteous man be able to
survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.’
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but he then trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, then none of his righteous works will be remembered; he will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
But if I tell the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and does what is just and right—
Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.
Yet your people say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ But it is their way that is not just.
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.
Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ But I will judge each of you according to his ways, O house of Israel.”
And it came to pass in the
twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me,
saying, The city is
smitten.
In the
twelfth year of our exile, on the fifth day of the tenth month, a
fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken!”
Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
“Son of man, those living in the ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as a possession.’
Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You eat meat with the blood in it, lift up your eyes to your idols, and shed blood. Should you then possess the land?
Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be
devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the
pestilence.
Tell them that this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘As surely as I live, those in the ruins will fall by the sword, those in the open field I will give to be
devoured by wild animals, and those in the strongholds and caves will die by plague.
Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD!’
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the
shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the
shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘Behold, I am against the
shepherds, and I will demand from them My flock and remove them from tending the flock, so that they can no longer feed themselves. For I will deliver My flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.’
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself will search for My flock and seek them out.
And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, between the rams and the he goats.
This is what the Lord GOD says to you, My flock: ‘I will judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the goats.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the
lean cattle.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says to them: ‘Behold, I Myself will judge between the fat sheep and the
lean sheep.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And
say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount
Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most
desolate.
and declare that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Behold, I am against you, O Mount
Seir. I will stretch out My hand against you and make you a
desolate waste.
And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel,
saying, They are laid
desolate, they are given us to
consume.
Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard every
contemptuous word you uttered against the mountains of Israel when you said, ‘They are
desolate; they are given to us to
devour!’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee
desolate.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you
desolate.
Also, thou son of man,
prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and
say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD:
“And you, son of man,
prophesy to the mountains of Israel and
say: O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you,
Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:
This is what the Lord GOD
says: Because the enemy has said of you, ‘
Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,’
Therefore
prophesy and
say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made you
desolate, and
swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an
infamy of the people:
therefore
prophesy and declare that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Because they have made you
desolate and have
trampled you on every side, so that you became a possession of the rest of the nations and were taken up in
slander by the lips of their talkers,
Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the
desolate wastes, and to the cities that are
forsaken, which became a prey and
derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about;
therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD
says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the
desolate ruins and abandoned cities, which have become a
spoil and a
mockery to the rest of the nations around you.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all
Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with
despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: Surely in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all
Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, so that its pastureland became
plunder.
Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and
say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my
fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen:
Therefore,
prophesy concerning the land of Israel and tell the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Behold, I have spoken in My burning zeal because you have
endured the reproach of the nations.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: I have
sworn with an
uplifted hand that surely the nations around you will
endure reproach of their own.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they
say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast
bereaved thy nations;
For this is what the Lord GOD
says: Because people
say to you, ‘You
devour men and deprive your nation of its children,’
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Therefore
say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have
profaned among the heathen,
whither ye went.
Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD
says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you
profaned among the nations to which you went.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have
cleansed you from all your
iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: On the day I
cleanse you from all your
iniquities, I will cause the cities to be resettled and the ruins to be rebuilt.
And they shall
say, This land that was
desolate is become like the garden of
Eden; and the waste and
desolate and ruined cities are become
fenced, and are inhabited.
Then they will
say, ‘This land that was
desolate has become like the garden of
Eden. The cities that were once ruined,
desolate, and destroyed are now fortified and inhabited.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: Once again I will hear the
plea of the house of Israel and do for them this: I will multiply their people like a flock.
Again he said unto me,
Prophesy upon these bones, and
say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
And He said to me, “
Prophesy concerning these bones and tell them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!
Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
This is what the Lord GOD says to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you will come to life.
Then said he unto me,
Prophesy unto the wind,
prophesy, son of man, and
say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
Then He said to me, “
Prophesy to the breath;
prophesy, son of man, and tell the breath that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe into these slain, so that they may live!”
Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Look, they are saying, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished; we are cut off.’
Therefore
prophesy and
say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
Therefore
prophesy and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘O My people, I will open your graves and bring you up from them, and I will bring you back to the land of Israel.
The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee,
saying,
Wilt thou not
shew us what thou meanest by these?
When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by these?’
Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and I will put them together with the stick of Judah. I will make them into a single stick, and they will become one in My hand.’
And
say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen,
whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take the Israelites out of the nations to which they have gone, and I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And
say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold I am against thee, O
Gog, the chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal:
and declare that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Behold, I am against you, O
Gog, chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
This is what the Lord GOD
says: On that day, thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will
devise an evil plan.
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
You will
say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will come against a
tranquil people who dwell securely, all of them living without walls or bars or gates—
Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of
Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall
say unto thee, Art thou come to take a
spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great
spoil?
Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of
Tarshish with all its villages will ask, ‘Have you come to capture the
plunder? Have you assembled your hordes to carry away
loot, to make off with silver and gold, to take cattle and goods, to seize great
spoil?’
Therefore, son of man,
prophesy and
say unto
Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?
Therefore
prophesy, son of man, and tell
Gog that this is what the Lord GOD
says: On that day when My people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not take notice of this?
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which
prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
This is what the Lord GOD
says: Are you the one of whom I have spoken in former days through My servants, the prophets of Israel, who in those times
prophesied for years that I would bring you against them?
Therefore, thou son of man,
prophesy against
Gog, and
say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O
Gog, the chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal:
“As for you, O son of man,
prophesy against
Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD
says: Behold, I am against you, O
Gog, chief prince of
Meshech and
Tubal.
And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every
feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field,
Assemble yourselves, and come; gather
yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD
says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘
Assemble and come together from all around to the
sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be
jealous for my holy name;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD
says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have
compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be
jealous for My holy name.
And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings
thereon, and to
sprinkle blood
thereon.
Then He said to me: “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings may be sacrificed on it and blood may be
sprinkled on it:
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look carefully with your eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
And thou shalt
say to the
rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of all your abominations,
Tell the
rebellious house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘I have had enough of all your abominations, O house of Israel.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger,
uncircumcised in heart, nor
uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD
says: No foreigner
uncircumcised in heart and flesh may enter My sanctuary—not even a foreigner who lives among the Israelites.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel: remove violence and
spoil, and
execute judgment and justice, take away your exactions from my people, saith the Lord GOD.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Enough, O princes of Israel! Cease your violence and oppression, and do what is just and right. Stop dispossessing My people, declares the Lord GOD.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the first month, in the first day of the month, thou shalt take a young
bullock without
blemish, and
cleanse the sanctuary:
This is what the Lord GOD
says: ‘On the first day of the first month you are to take a young bull without
blemish and
purify the sanctuary.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
“This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘The gate of the inner court that faces east must be kept shut during the six days of work, but on the Sabbath day and on the day of the New Moon it shall be opened.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; If the prince give a gift unto any of his sons, the inheritance thereof shall be his sons’; it shall be their possession by inheritance.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘If the prince gives a gift to any of his sons as an inheritance, it will belong to his descendants. It will become their property by inheritance.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall
inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “These are the boundaries by which you are to divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall receive two portions.
They spake and said to the king
Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing
amiss against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a
dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who
say anything offensive against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego will be cut into pieces and their houses reduced to
rubble. For there is no other god who can deliver in this way.”
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream:
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and
saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and
saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,
saying, O king
Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “It is decreed to you, King
Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom has departed from you.
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I
say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
He
instructed me and spoke with me,
saying: “O Daniel, I have come now to give you insight and understanding.
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood
trembling.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man who is highly precious. Consider carefully the words that I am about to
say to you. Stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had said this to me, I stood up
trembling.
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and
sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to
scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
And the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him
swear by Him who lives
forever,
saying, “It will be for a time, and times, and half a time. When the power of the holy people has finally been
shattered, all these things will be completed.”
Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-
hamah.
“Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
And I will
sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will
say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall
say, Thou art my God.
And I will
sow her as My own in the land, and I will have
compassion on ‘No
Compassion.’ I will
say to those called ‘Not My People,’ ‘You are My people,’ and they will
say, ‘You are my God.’”
For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
Surely now they will
say, “We have no king, for we do not
revere the LORD. What can a king do for us?”
The high places also of
Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the
thorn and the
thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall
say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
The high places of
Aven will be destroyed— it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will
say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”
And now they sin more and more, and have made them
molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the
craftsmen: they
say of them, Let the men that sacrifice
kiss the
calves.
Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols
skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of
craftsmen. People
say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and
kiss the
calves!”
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD:
say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us
graciously: so will we render the
calves of our lips.
Bring your confessions and return to the LORD.
Say to Him: “Take away all our iniquity and receive us
graciously, that we may present the fruit of our lips.
Asshur shall not save us; we will not
ride upon horses: neither will we
say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.
Assyria will not save us, nor will we
ride on horses. We will never again
say, ‘Our gods!’ to the work of our own hands. For in You the fatherless find
compassion.”
Ephraim shall
say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green
fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
O Ephraim, what have I to do anymore with idols? It is I who answer and watch over him. I am like a flourishing
cypress; your fruit comes from Me.
Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD,
weep between the
porch and the altar, and let them
say,
Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they
say among the people, Where is their God?
Let the priests who minister before the LORD
weep between the
portico and the altar,
saying, “
Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not make Your
heritage a reproach, an object of
scorn among the nations. Why should they
say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
Yea, the LORD will answer and
say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied
therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
And the LORD answered His people: “Behold, I will send you grain, new wine, and oil, and by them you will be satisfied. I will never again make you a reproach among the nations.
Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Beat your plowshares into swords and your
pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak
say, ‘I am strong!’
