The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.
The LORD will reign
forever and ever!”
And the people
murmured against Moses, saying, What
shall we drink?
So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Then on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And in the morning, then ye
shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye
murmur against us?
and in the morning you will see the LORD’s glory, because He has heard your
grumbling against Him. For who are we that you should
grumble against us?”
And Moses said, This
shall be, when the LORD
shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
And Moses added, “The LORD will give you meat to eat this evening and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”
I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
“I have heard the
grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At
twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.’”
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the field.
Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
For six days you may gather, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it will not be there.”
And Moses
cried unto the LORD, saying, What
shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
Then Moses
cried out to the LORD, “What should I do with these people? A little more and they will stone me!”
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in
Horeb; and thou shalt
smite the rock, and there
shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Behold, I will stand there before you by the rock at
Horeb. And when you strike the rock, water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God
shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
Now
listen to me; I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their causes to Him.
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it
shall be, that every great matter they
shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they
shall judge: so
shall it be easier for
thyself, and they
shall bear the burden with thee.
Have these men judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you any major issue, but all minor cases they can judge on their own, so that your load may be
lightened as they share it with you.
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to
endure, and all this people
shall also go to their place in peace.
If you follow this advice and God so directs you, then you will be able to
endure, and all these people can go home in peace.”
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye
shall be a peculiar
treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My
treasured possession out of all the nations—for the whole earth is Mine.
And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.”
And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take
heed to
yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it:
whosoever toucheth the mount
shall be surely put to death:
And you are to set up a boundary for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful not to go up on the mountain or touch its base.
Whoever touches the mountain
shall surely be put to death.
There
shall not an hand touch it, but he
shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it
shall not live: when the
trumpet soundeth long, they
shall come up to the mount.
No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows—whether man or beast, he must not live.’ Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain.”
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
You shall have no other gods before Me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any
graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
You
shall not make for
yourself an
idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.
Thou shalt not bow down
thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a
jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that
hate me;
You
shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a
jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who
hate Me,
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
You
shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave
anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Thou shalt not kill.
You shall not murder.

You
shall not bear false witness against your
neighbor.
Thou shalt not
covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not
covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his
manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his
ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
You are not to make any gods
alongside Me; you are not to make for
yourselves gods of silver or gold.

buy an Hebrew servant, six years he
shall serve: and in the seventh he
shall go out free for nothing.
If you
buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he
shall go free without paying anything.

shall take him to the door or

pierce his ear with an
awl. Then he
shall serve his master for life.
And if a man sell his daughter to be a
maidservant, she
shall not go out as the menservants do.
And if a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as the menservants do.
If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then
shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he
shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her.
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.
And if he have
betrothed her unto his son, he
shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
And if he chooses her for his son, he must deal with her as with a daughter.
If he take him another wife; her food, her

If, however, he does not provide her with these three things, she is free to go without
monetary payment.

shall go unpunished, as long as the other can get up and walk around outside with his staff. Nevertheless, he must
compensate the man for his lost work and see that he is completely
healed.

smite his servant, or his

donkey falls into it,
The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
the owner of the pit
shall make
restitution; he must pay its owner, and the dead animal will be his.
And if one man’s ox
hurt another’s, that he die; then they
shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they
shall divide.

shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full
restitution; if he have nothing, then he

restitution.

an oath before the LORD
shall be made between the parties to determine whether or not the man has taken his
neighbor’s property. The owner must accept the oath and require no
restitution.

torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he
shall not make good that which was
torn.

shall not
afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
You must not mistreat any widow or
orphan.

My anger will be
kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will become widows and your children will be fatherless.
For that is his covering only, it is his
raiment for his skin: wherein
shall he sleep? and it
shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am
gracious.
because his
cloak is the only covering he has for his body. What else will he sleep in? And if he
cries out to Me, I will hear, for I am
compassionate.
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it
shall be with his
dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
You shall do likewise with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to Me.
And ye
shall be holy men unto me: neither
shall ye eat any flesh that is
torn of beasts in the field; ye
shall cast it to the dogs.
You are to be My holy people. You must not eat the meat of a
mauled animal found in the field; you are to throw it to the dogs.
Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
“You
shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a
malicious witness.
Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to
wrest judgment:
Thou shalt not
wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.
You shall not deny justice to the poor in their lawsuits.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field
shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
Thou shalt keep the feast of
unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat
unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month
Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none
shall appear before me empty:)
You are to keep the Feast of
Unleavened Bread as I commanded you: At the appointed time in the month of
Abib you are to eat
unleavened bread for seven days, because that was the month you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before Me empty-handed.
Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord GOD.
Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD.
Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with
leavened bread; neither
shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.
You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything
leavened, nor may the fat of My feast remain until morning.
And ye
shall serve the LORD your God, and he
shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
So you
shall serve the LORD your God, and He will
bless your bread and your water. And I will take away sickness from among you.
There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.
No woman in your land will miscarry or be barren; I will
fulfill the number of your days.
And I will send hornets before thee, which
shall drive out the Hivite, the
Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.
Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.
They
shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a
snare unto thee.
They must not remain in your land, lest they cause you to sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a
snare to you.”
And Moses alone
shall come near the LORD: but they
shall not come
nigh; neither
shall the people go up with him.
Moses alone shall approach the LORD, but the others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him.”
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
“Tell the Israelites to bring Me an offering. You are to receive My offering from every man whose heart compels him.
And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
This is the offering you are to accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze;
According to all that I
shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so
shall ye make it.
You must make the tabernacle and design all its furnishings according to the pattern I show you.
