Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
“If we have found favor in your sight,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”
And the LORD’S anger was
kindled against Israel, and he made them
wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the
sight of the LORD, was consumed.
The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He made them
wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation who had done evil in His
sight was gone.
And they departed from
Rameses in the first month, on the
fifteenth day of the first month; on the
morrow after the
passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the
sight of all the Egyptians.
On the
fifteenth day of the first month, on the day after the
Passover, the Israelites set out from
Rameses. They marched out defiantly in full view of all the Egyptians,
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
When thou shalt
beget children, and children’s children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt
yourselves, and make a
graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the
sight of the LORD thy God, to
provoke him to anger:
After you have children and grandchildren and you have been in the land a long time, if you then act corruptly and make an
idol of any form—doing evil in the
sight of the LORD your God and
provoking Him to anger—
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by
signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;
Because He loved your fathers, He chose their descendants after them and brought you out of Egypt by His presence and great power,
And thou shalt bind them for a
sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets between thine eyes.
Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the
sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers,
Do what is right and good in the
sight of the LORD, so that it may be well with you and that you may enter and possess the good land that the LORD your God
swore to give your fathers,
And the LORD shewed
signs and wonders, great and
sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and
devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household.
The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye
sinned, in doing wickedly in the
sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
Then I fell down before the LORD for forty days and forty nights, as I had done the first time. I did not eat bread or drink water because of all the sin you had committed in doing what was evil in the
sight of the LORD and
provoking Him to anger.
And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;
the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a
sign upon your hand, that they may be as
frontlets between your eyes.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds;
tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
If a prophet or dreamer of dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,
And the
sign or the wonder come to pass,
whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,”
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the
sight of the LORD thy God, in
transgressing his covenant,
If a man or woman among you in one of the towns that the LORD your God gives you is found doing evil in the
sight of the LORD your God by
transgressing His covenant
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
So you shall
purge from among you the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem
vile unto thee.
He may receive no more than forty lashes, lest your brother be beaten any more than that and be
degraded in your
sight.
And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
Then the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror, signs, and wonders.
So that thou shalt be
mad for the
sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
You will be driven
mad by the
sights you see.
And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
These curses will be a
sign and a wonder upon you and your descendants
forever.
In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart
wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the
sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’—because of the
dread in your hearts of the
terrifying sights you will see.
The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
You saw with your own eyes the great trials, and those
miraculous signs and wonders.
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the
sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath
sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to
inherit it.
Then Moses called for Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD
swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.
For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt
yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will
befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the
sight of the LORD, to
provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
For I know that after my death you will become utterly corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. And in the days to come,
disaster will
befall you because you will do evil in the
sight of the LORD to
provoke Him to anger by the work of your hands.”
In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
no prophet who did all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent Moses to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his officials and all his land,
And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.
and no prophet who performed all the mighty acts of power and
awesome deeds that Moses did in the
sight of all Israel.
Now therefore, I pray you,
swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also
shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true
token:
Now therefore, please
swear to me by the LORD that you will indeed show kindness to my family, because I showed kindness to you. Give me a sure
sign And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to
magnify thee in the
sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
Now the LORD said to Joshua, “
Today I will begin to
exalt you in the
sight of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you just as I was with Moses.
That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
and after
everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the
sight of the people.
On that day the LORD
magnified Joshua in the
sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
On that day the LORD
exalted Joshua in the
sight of all Israel, and they
revered him all the days of his life, just as they had
revered Moses.
Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the
Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the
sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon
Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
On the day that the LORD gave the
Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “O sun, stand still over
Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of
Aijalon.”
And the LORD your God, he shall
expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your
sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.
The LORD your God will
push them out of your way and drive them out before you, so that you can take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
But if it is unpleasing in your
sight to serve the LORD, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the
Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage, and which did those great
signs in our
sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
And the children of Israel did evil in the
sight of the LORD, and served
Baalim:
And the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals.
And the children of Israel did evil in the
sight of the LORD, and
forgat the LORD their God, and served
Baalim and the groves.
So the Israelites did evil in the
sight of the LORD; they
forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the
sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened
Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the
sight of the LORD.
Once again the Israelites did evil in the
sight of the LORD. So He gave
Eglon king of Moab power over Israel, because they had done evil in the
sight of the LORD.
And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.
After Ehud died, the Israelites again did evil in the sight of the LORD.
And the children of Israel did evil in the
sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of
Midian seven years.
Again the Israelites did evil in the
sight of the LORD; so He delivered them into the hand of
Midian for seven years,
And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy
sight, then
shew me a
sign that thou talkest with me.
Gideon answered, “If I have found favor in Your
sight, give me a
sign that it is You speaking with me.
Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the
unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the
unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his
sight.
Then the angel of the LORD extended the
tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the
unleavened bread. And fire
flared from the rock and consumed the meat and the
unleavened bread. Then the angel of the LORD
vanished from his
sight.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the
sight of the LORD, and served
Baalim, and
Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of
Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and
forsook the LORD, and served not him.
And again the Israelites did evil in the
sight of the LORD. They served the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of
Aram,
Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the
Ammonites and Philistines. Thus they
forsook the LORD and did not serve Him.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
Again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD, so He delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.
Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
The men of Israel had arranged a
signal with the men in
ambush: When they sent up a great cloud of smoke from the city,
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said unto
Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and
glean ears of corn after him in whose
sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said to
Naomi, “Please let me go into the fields and
glean heads of grain after someone in whose
sight I may find favor.” “Go
ahead, my daughter,”
Naomi replied.
Then she said, Let me find favour in thy
sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine
handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
“My lord,” she said, “may I continue to find favor in your eyes, for you have comforted and spoken kindly to your
maidservant, though I am not like one of your servant girls.”
And she said, Let thine
handmaid find grace in thy
sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more
sad.
“May your
maidservant find favor with you,” said
Hannah. Then she went on her way, and she began eating again, and her face was no longer
downcast.
Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men
abhorred the offering of the LORD.
Thus the sin of these young men was severe in the sight of the LORD, for they were treating the LORD’s offering with contempt.
And this shall be a
sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on
Hophni and
Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
And this
sign shall come to you concerning your two sons
Hophni and
Phinehas: They will both die on the same day.
And they of Beth-shemesh were
reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and
rejoiced to see it.
Now the people of Beth-shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley, and when they looked up and saw the ark, they were overjoyed at the sight.
But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
When these signs have come, do as the occasion demands, for God is with you.
And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all the signs came to pass that day.
Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send
thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the
sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will call on the LORD to send
thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the
sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.
But if they say, ‘Come on up,’ then we will go up, because this will be our sign that the LORD has delivered them into our hands.”
And Samuel said, When thou
wast little in thine own
sight,
wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD
anointed thee king over Israel?
And Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your own eyes, have you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD
anointed you king over Israel
Wherefore then
didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but
didst fly upon the
spoil, and
didst evil in the
sight of the LORD?
So why did you not obey the LORD? Why did you
rush upon the
plunder and do evil in the
sight of the LORD?”
And Saul sent to
Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my
sight.
Then Saul sent word to
Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
And David went out
whithersoever Saul sent him, and
behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the
sight of all the people, and also in the
sight of Saul’s servants.
So David marched out and
prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the
sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.
And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem
trivial in your
sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
Achish replied, “I know that you are as pleasing in my sight as an angel of God. But the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go into battle with us.’
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the
sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do.”
And I will yet be more
vile than thus, and will be base in mine own
sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
and I will
humiliate and humble myself even more than this. Yet I will be honored by the maidservants of whom you have spoken.”
And I was with thee
whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy
sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O Lord GOD, You have also spoken about the future of the house of Your servant. Is this Your custom with man, O Lord GOD?
Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
Be strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His
sight.”
And when the
mourning was past, David sent and
fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
And when the time of
mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the
sight of the LORD.
Wherefore hast thou
despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his
sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of
Ammon.
Why then have you
despised the command of the LORD by doing evil in His
sight? You put Uriah the Hittite to the sword and took his wife as your own, for you have slain him with the sword of the
Ammonites.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up
adversity against you from your own house. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad
daylight.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my
sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my
sight, so that I may eat from her hand.”
So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and
kneaded it, and made cakes in his
sight, and did
bake the cakes.
So Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, who was lying down. She took some
dough,
kneaded it, made cakes in his
sight, and
baked them.
And
Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and
thanked the king: and
Joab said,
Today thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy
sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.
Joab fell facedown in
homage and blessed the king. “
Today,” said
Joab, “your servant knows that he has found favor with you, my lord the king, because the king has granted his request.”
Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that
pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I
humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy
sight, my lord, O king.
So the king said to Ziba, “All that belongs to Mephibosheth is now yours!” “I
humbly bow before you,” said Ziba. “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king!”
So they spread
Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and
Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the
sight of all Israel.
So they pitched a tent for
Absalom on the roof, and he
slept with his father’s concubines in the
sight of all Israel.
And there went over a
ferry boat to carry over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of
Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
and crossed at the
ford to carry over the king’s household and to do what was good in his
sight. When Shimei son of
Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell down before the king
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and
whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
The king replied, “Chimham will cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good in your sight, and I will do for you whatever you desire of me.”
Therefore the LORD hath
recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye
sight.
So the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His sight.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my
sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my
sight; and Israel shall be a
proverb and a
byword among all people:
then I will cut off Israel from the land that I have given them, and I will
banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My Name. Then Israel will become an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all peoples.
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely.
And
Hadad found great favour in the
sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
There
Hadad found such great favor in the
sight of Pharaoh that he gave to him in marriage the sister of Queen Tahpenes, his own wife.
And it shall be, if thou
wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and
wilt walk in my ways, and do that is right in my
sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.
If you
listen to all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My
sight in order to keep My statutes and commandments as My servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.
And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
That day the man of God gave a sign, saying, “The LORD has spoken this sign: ‘Surely the altar will be split apart, and the ashes upon it will be poured out.’”
The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
And the altar was split apart, and the ashes poured out, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

Ahab had him come up into his
