Look upon
Zion, the city of our
solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet
habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Look upon
Zion, the city of our appointed feasts. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful pasture, a tent that does not
wander; its tent pegs will not be pulled up, nor will any of its cords be broken.
The wilderness and the
solitary place shall be
glad for them; and the desert shall
rejoice, and
blossom as the rose.
The wilderness and the land will be
glad; the desert will
rejoice and
blossom like a rose.
I have
digged, and
drunk water; and with the
sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.
I have
dug wells and
drunk foreign waters. With the
soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”
Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s
divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have
sold you? Behold, for your
iniquities have ye
sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
This is what the LORD says: “Where is your mother’s
certificate of
divorce with which I sent her away? Or to which of My creditors did I sell you? Look, you were
sold for your
iniquities, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.
For thus saith the LORD, Ye have
sold yourselves for
nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.
For this is what the LORD says: “You were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed.”
O thou
afflicted,
tossed with
tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
The sons also of them that
afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that
despised thee shall bow themselves down at the
soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
The sons of your oppressors will come and bow down to you; all who
reviled you will fall facedown at your feet and call you the City of the LORD,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been
sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers
hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has
sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not
listen or
incline their ear.
And it came to pass, that when
Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, by the gate
betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain.
When
Zedekiah king of Judah and all the
soldiers saw them, they fled. They left the city at night by way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls, and they went out along the route to the Arabah.
Ishmael also
slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at
Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at
Mizpah, as well as the
Chaldean soldiers who were there.
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the
remnant of the people whom he had recovered from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from
Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from
Gibeon:
Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him took the whole
remnant of the people from
Mizpah whom he had recovered from
Ishmael son of Nethaniah after
Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam: the
soldiers, women, children, and court officials he had brought back from
Gibeon.
And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are
affrighted.
The fords have been seized, the marshes set on fire, and the
soldiers are
terrified.”
The two pillars, one sea, and twelve
brasen bulls that were under the bases, which king
Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands that King Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
How
doth the city sit
solitary, that was full of people how is she become as a widow she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary
How
lonely lies the city, once so full of people! She who was great among the nations has become a widow. The princess of the provinces has become a slave.
The ways of
Zion do
mourn, because none come to the
solemn feasts: all her gates are
desolate: her priests
sigh, her virgins are
afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
The roads to
Zion mourn, because no one comes to her appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests
groan, her maidens
grieve, and she herself is bitter with
anguish.
And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD hath caused the
solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in
Zion, and hath
despised in the
indignation of his anger the king and the priest.
He has laid waste His tabernacle like a garden
booth; He has destroyed His place of meeting. The LORD has made
Zion forget her appointed feasts and Sabbaths. In His fierce anger He has
despised both king and priest.
The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath
abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a
solemn feast.
The Lord has rejected His altar; He has abandoned His sanctuary; He has delivered the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy. They have raised a
shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.
Thou hast called as in a
solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have
swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.
You summoned my attackers on every side, as for the day of an appointed feast. In the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped or survived; my enemy has destroyed those I
nurtured and reared.
We have
drunken our water for money; our wood is
sold unto us.
We must
buy the water we drink; our wood comes at a price.
And their feet were straight feet; and the
sole of their feet was like the
sole of a
calf’s foot: and they
sparkled like the colour of
burnished brass.
Their legs were straight, and the
soles of their feet were like the
hooves of a
calf,
gleaming like polished bronze.
For the seller shall not return to that which is
sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any
strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.
The seller will surely not recover what he
sold while both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be
revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life.
And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
So your
prostitution is the opposite of that of other women: No one
solicited your favors, and you paid a fee instead of receiving one; so you are the very opposite!
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the
soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more
defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their
whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
and He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the
soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites
forever. The house of Israel will never again
defile My holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their
prostitution and by the funeral offerings for their kings at their deaths.
And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all
solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make
reconciliation for the house of Israel.
And it shall be the prince’s part to provide the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings for the feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths—for all the appointed feasts of the house of Israel. He will provide the sin offerings, grain offerings, burnt offerings, and peace offerings to make
atonement for the house of Israel.
But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it.
When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts,
whoever enters by the north gate to worship must go out by the south gate, and
whoever enters by the south gate must go out by the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which he entered, but each must go out by the opposite gate.
And in the feasts and in the
solemnities the meat offering shall be an
ephah to a
bullock, and
ephah to a ram, and to the lambs as he is able to give, and an
hin of oil to an
ephah.
At the festivals and appointed feasts, the grain offering shall be an
ephah with a bull, an
ephah with a ram, and as much as one is able to give with the lambs, along with a
hin of oil per
ephah.
Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding,
interpreting of dreams, and
shewing of hard sentences, and
dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will
shew the interpretation.
did this because Daniel, the one he named Belteshazzar, was found to have an extraordinary spirit, as well as knowledge, understanding, and the ability to
interpret dreams, explain
riddles, and
solve difficult problems.
Summon Daniel, therefore, and he will give you the interpretation.”
And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and
dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
But I have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and
solve difficult problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
I will also cause all her
mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her
solemn feasts.
I will put an end to all her
exultation: her feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths— all her appointed feasts.
What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?
What will you do on the appointed day, on the day of the LORD’s feast?
And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
But I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.
Sanctify ye a fast, call a
solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
Consecrate a fast;
proclaim a
solemn assembly! Gather the elders and all the residents of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.
And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an
harlot, and
sold a
girl for wine, that they might drink.
The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border.
You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, to send them far from their homeland.
Behold, I will raise them out of the place
whither ye have
sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head:
Behold, I will
rouse them from the places to which you
sold them; I will return your
recompense upon your heads.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they
sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of
shoes;
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Israel, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the
needy for a pair of
sandals.
Shepherd with Your staff Your people, the flock of Your inheritance. They live alone in a
woodland, surrounded by pastures. Let them
graze in
Bashan and
Gilead, as in the days of old.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good
tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy
solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Look to the mountains— the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!
Celebrate your feasts, O Judah;
fulfill your vows. For the wicked will never again march through you; they will be utterly cut off.
I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.
“I will gather those among you who
grieve over the appointed feasts, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a
candlestick all of gold, with a
bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps
thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
“What do you see?” he asked. “I see a
solid gold lampstand,” I replied, “with a
bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven spouts to the lamps.
Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
Behold, I will
rebuke your descendants, and I will spread dung on your faces, the waste from your feasts, and you will be carried off with it.
And ye shall
tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the
soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will
trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the
soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And
Jesse begat David the king; and David the king
begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
and
Jesse the father of David the king. Next: David was the father of
Solomon by Uriah’s wife,
And yet I say unto you, That even
Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”
Are not two sparrows
sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Are not two sparrows
sold for a
penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.
The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for she came from the
uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of
Solomon; and, behold, a greater than
Solomon is here.
The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of
Solomon, and now One greater than
Solomon is here.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto
treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
The kingdom of heaven is like
treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he
hid it again, and in his joy he went and
sold all he had and bought that field.
Who, when he had found one
pearl of great price, went and
sold all that he had, and bought it.
When he found one very precious
pearl, he went away and
sold all he had and bought it.
When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
When Jesus heard about John, He withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. But the crowds found out about it and followed Him on foot from the towns.
But
forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be
sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.
And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
Then Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were
buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
For this
ointment might have been
sold for much, and given to the poor.
This
perfume could have been
sold at a high price, and the money given to the poor.”
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
Then the governor’s
soldiers took Jesus into the
Praetorium and gathered the whole company around Him.
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
And after the chief priests had met with the elders and formed a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and
slipped out to a
solitary place to pray.
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
But the man went out and openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in
solitary places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.
And he said unto them, Come ye
yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
So they went away in a boat by themselves to a solitary place.
And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
When they arrived in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began to drive out those who were
buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
For it might have been
sold for more than three hundred
pence, and have been given to the poor. And they
murmured against her.
It could have been
sold for over three hundred
denarii and the money given to the poor.” And they
scolded her.
And the
soldiers led him away into the hall, called
Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
Then the
soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the
Praetorium) and called the whole company together.
And they
compel one Simon a
Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
Now Simon of
Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the
soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
And the
soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither
accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
Then some
soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false
accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”
And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
At
daybreak, Jesus went out to a
solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.
For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”
(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For
oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in
fetters; and he
brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and
shackles, he had broken the chains and been driven by the
demon into
solitary places.
The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and
condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of
Solomon; and, behold, a greater than
Solomon is here.
The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and
condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of
Solomon, and now One greater than
Solomon is here.
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Are not five sparrows
sold for two
pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.
Consider the
lilies how they grow: they
toil not, they
spin not; and yet I say unto you, that
Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
Consider how the
lilies grow: They do not labor or
spin. Yet I tell you, not even
Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they
drank, they bought, they
sold, they planted, they builded;
It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking,
buying and selling, planting and building.
And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
Then Jesus entered the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling there.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a
Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
As the
soldiers led Him away, they seized Simon of
Cyrene on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
And the
soldiers also
mocked him, coming to him, and offering him
vinegar,
The
soldiers also
mocked Him and came up to offer Him
sour wine.
And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables.
And said unto them that
sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of
merchandise.
To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here! How
dare you turn My Father’s house into a marketplace!”
And Jesus walked in the temple in
Solomon’s
porch.
and Jesus was walking in the temple courts in
Solomon’s
Colonnade.
Why was not this
ointment sold for three hundred
pence, and given to the poor?
“Why wasn’t this
perfume sold for three hundred
denarii and the money given to the poor?”
Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and
Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
So
Judas brought a band of
soldiers and officers from the chief priests and
Pharisees. They arrived at the garden carrying lanterns, torches, and weapons.
Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
Then the band of soldiers, with its commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him.
And the
soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple
robe,
The
soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, set it on His head, and dressed Him in a purple
robe.
Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be
crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
Then
Pilate handed Jesus over to be
crucified, and the
soldiers took Him away.
Then the
soldiers, when they had
crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every
soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without
seam,
woven from the top throughout.
When the
soldiers had
crucified Jesus, they divided His garments into four parts, one for each
soldier, with the
tunic remaining. It was
seamless,
woven in one piece from top to bottom.
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not
rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my
raiment among them, and for my
vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the
soldiers did.
So they said to one another, “Let us not
tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it.” This was to
fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the
soldiers did.
Then came the
soldiers, and
brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was
crucified with him.
So the
soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been
crucified with Jesus, and those of the other.
But one of the
soldiers with a
spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water.
Instead, one of the
soldiers pierced His side with a
spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.
And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with
anyone who was in need.
And as the
lame man which was
healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the
porch that is called
Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
While the man
clung to Peter and John, all the people were
astonished and ran to them in the walkway called
Solomon’s
Colonnade.
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
There were no
needy ones among them, because those who owned lands or houses would sell their property, bring the proceeds from the sales,
Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
But a certain man named
Ananias, with Sapphira his wife,
sold a possession,
Now a man named
Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also
sold a piece of property.
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was
sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not
lied unto men, but unto God.
Did it not belong to you before it was
sold? And after it was
sold, was it not at your
disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not
lied to men, but to God!”
And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye
sold the land for so much? And she said,
Yea, for so much.
“Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “
Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.”
And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one
accord in
Solomon’s
porch.
The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people, and with one
accord the believers gathered together in
Solomon’s
Colonnade.
And the patriarchs, moved with
envy,
sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
Because the patriarchs were
jealous of Joseph, they
sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him
