But the
dove found no rest for the
sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
But the
dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because the waters were still covering the surface of all the earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark.
I am the God of
Bethel, where thou anointedst the
pillar, and where thou vowedst a
vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
I am the God of
Bethel, where you
anointed the
pillar and made a
solemn vow to Me. Now get up and leave this land at once, and return to your native land.’”
Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath
sold us, and hath quite
devoured also our money.
Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? Not only has he
sold us, but he has certainly
squandered what was paid for us.
Then there passed by Midianites
merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and
sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
So when the Midianite traders passed by, his brothers pulled Joseph out of the pit and
sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the
Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, and captain of the guard.
Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.
And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and
sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed
sore in the land of Egypt.
When the famine had spread over all the land, Joseph opened up all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians; for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.
Now Joseph was the ruler of the land; he was the one who sold grain to all its people. So when his brothers arrived, they bowed down before him with their faces to the ground.
And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did
solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
But Judah replied, “The man
solemnly warned us, ‘You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.’
And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near me.” And they did so. “I am Joseph, your brother,” he said, “the one you sold into Egypt!
And now, do not be distressed or
angry with
yourselves that you
sold me into this place, because it was to save lives that God sent me before you.
And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.
So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. The land became Pharaoh’s,
Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
However, he did not acquire the priests’ portion of the land, for it had been given to them by Pharaoh. They
ate the rations that Pharaoh supplied; so they did not sell their land.
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly
sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel
swear a
solemn oath when he said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones with you from this place.”
And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount
Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and
sanctify it.
But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount
Sinai, for You
solemnly warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’”
If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full
restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be
sold for his
theft.
And the goat shall bear upon him all their
iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
The goat will carry on itself all their
iniquities into a
solitary place, and the man will release it into the wilderness.
Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy
convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a
solemn assembly; and ye shall do no
servile work therein.
For seven days you are to present an offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you are to hold a sacred assembly and present an offering made by fire to the LORD. It is a solemn assembly; you must not do any regular work.
The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
The land must not be sold permanently, because it is Mine, and you are but foreigners and residents with Me.
If thy brother be
waxen poor, and hath
sold away some of his possession, and if any of his
kin come to
redeem it, then shall he
redeem that which his brother
sold.
If your brother becomes
impoverished and sells some of his property, his nearest of
kin may come and
redeem what his brother has
sold.
Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the
overplus unto the man to whom he
sold it; that he may return unto his possession.
he shall
calculate the years since its sale, repay the balance to the man to whom he
sold it, and return to his property.
But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of jubile: and in the jubile it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession.
But if he cannot obtain enough to repay him, what he
sold will remain in possession of the
buyer until the Year of
Jubilee. In the
Jubilee, however, it is to be released, so that he may return to his property.
And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may
redeem it within a whole year after it is
sold; within a full year may he
redeem it.
If a man sells a house in a walled city, he retains his right of
redemption until a full year after its sale; during that year it may be redeemed.
And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubile: for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
So whatever belongs to the Levites may be redeemed—a house
sold in a city they possess—and must be released in the
Jubilee, because the houses in the cities of the Levites are their possession among the Israelites.
But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.
But the open pastureland around their cities may not be sold, for this is their permanent possession.
And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be
waxen poor, and be
sold unto thee; thou shalt not
compel him to serve as a
bondservant:
If a
countryman among you becomes destitute and sells himself to you, then you must not force him into slave labor.
For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be
sold as
bondmen.
Because the Israelites are My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt, they are not to be sold as slaves.
After that he is
sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may
redeem him:
he retains the right of
redemption after he has
sold himself. One of his brothers may
redeem him:
And he shall
reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was
sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an
hired servant shall it be with him.
He and his purchaser will then count the time from the year he
sold himself up to the Year of
Jubilee. The price of his sale will be determined by the number of years, based on the daily wages of a
hired hand.
And if he will not
redeem the field, or if he have
sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more.
If, however, he does not
redeem the field, or if he has
sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.
And if it be of an unclean beast, then he shall
redeem it according to thine
estimation, and shall add a fifth part of it
thereto: or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be
sold according to thy
estimation.
But if it is among the unclean animals, then he may
redeem it according to your
valuation and add a fifth of its value. If it is not redeemed, then it shall be
sold according to your
valuation.
Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall
devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be
sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD.
Nothing that a man sets apart to the LORD from all he owns—whether a man, an animal, or his inherited land—can be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD.
And shall put
thereon the covering of badgers’ skins, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and shall put in the
staves thereof.
They are to place over this a covering of fine leather, spread a
solid blue cloth over it, and
insert its poles.
Also in the day of your
gladness, and in your
solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the
trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a
memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
And on your
joyous occasions, your appointed feasts, and the beginning of each month, you are to blow the
trumpets over your burnt offerings and
fellowship offerings to serve as a reminder for you before your God. I am the LORD your God.”
And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a
vow, or in a
freewill offering, or in your
solemn feasts, to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the
herd, or of the flock:
and you present an offering made by fire to the LORD from the
herd or flock to produce a pleasing
aroma to the LORD—either a burnt offering or a sacrifice, for a special
vow or
freewill offering or appointed feast—
On the eighth day ye shall have a
solemn assembly: ye shall do no
servile work therein:
On the eighth day you are to hold a solemn assembly; you must not do any regular work.
And
Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the
ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;
Then
Eleazar the priest said to the
soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses:
And
levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the
beeves, and of the
asses, and of the sheep:
Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the
soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, or sheep.
And the
booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
and this
plunder remained from the spoils the
soldiers had taken: 675,000 sheep,
And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.
and said, “Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one of us is missing.
(For the men of war had taken
spoil, every man for himself.)
Each of the
soldiers had taken
plunder for himself.
Every place
whereon the
soles of your feet shall
tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and
Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the
uttermost sea shall your coast be.
Every place where the
sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to
Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.
And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
If a fellow Hebrew, a man or a woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you must set him free.
Six days thou shalt eat
unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a
solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.
For six days you must eat
unleavened bread, and on the seventh day you shall hold a
solemn assembly to the LORD your God, and you must not do any work.
Seven days shalt thou keep a
solemn feast unto the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely
rejoice.
For seven days you shall
celebrate a feast to the LORD your God in the place He will choose, because the LORD your God will
bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that your joy will be complete.
The LORD shall
smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a
sore botch that cannot be
healed, from the
sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
The LORD will
afflict you with painful, incurable boils on your knees and thighs, from the
soles of your feet to the top of your head.
The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not
adventure to set the
sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her
bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
The most gentle and refined woman among you, so gentle and refined she would not
venture to set the
sole of her foot on the ground, will
begrudge the husband she embraces and her son and daughter
And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the
sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a
trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
Among those nations you will find no
repose, not even a resting place for the
sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a
trembling heart, failing eyes, and a
despairing soul.
And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way
whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be
sold unto your enemies for
bondmen and
bondwomen, and no man shall
buy you.
The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships by a route that I said you should never see again. There you will sell
yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will
buy you.”
And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the
solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
Then Moses commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of remission of debt, during the Feast of Tabernacles,
How should one
chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had
sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?
How could one man pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?
Every place that the
sole of your foot shall
tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
I have given you every place where the
sole of your foot will
tread, just as I promised to Moses.
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the
soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an
heap.
When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a
heap.”
And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
And Joshua
adjured them at that time, saying,
Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city
Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his
firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
At that time Joshua
invoked this
solemn oath: “
Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up and rebuilds this city,
Jericho; at the cost of his
firstborn he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that
spoiled them, and he
sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of those who
plundered them. He
sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he
sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of
Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He
sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of
Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.
And the LORD
sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in
Harosheth of the Gentiles.
So the LORD
sold them into the hand of Jabin king of
Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his forces was Sisera, who lived in
Harosheth-hagoyim.
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he
sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of
Ammon.
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He
sold them into the hands of the Philistines and
Ammonites,
And
Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a
riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
“Let me tell you a
riddle,”
Samson said to them. “If you can
solve it for me within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.
But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy
riddle, that we may hear it.
But if you cannot
solve it, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.” “Tell us your
riddle,” they replied. “Let us hear it.”
And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not
plowed with my
heifer, ye had not found out my
riddle.
Before
sunset on the seventh day, the men of the city said to
Samson: “What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?” So he said to them: “If you had not
plowed with my
heifer, you would not have
solved my
riddle!”
And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and
slew thirty men of them, and took their
spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which
expounded the
riddle. And his anger was
kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, killed thirty of their men, took their
apparel, and gave their clothes to those who had
solved the
riddle. And burning with anger,
Samson returned to his father’s house,
Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could
sling stones at an hair breadth, and not miss.
Among all these
soldiers there were 700 select left-handers, each of whom could
sling a stone at a hair without missing.
And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
The Israelites asked, “Who among all the tribes of Israel did not come to the assembly before the LORD?” For they had taken a
solemn oath that
anyone who failed to come up before the LORD at
Mizpah would surely be put to death.
And the Philistines fought, and Israel was
smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand
footmen.
So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and each man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great—thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell.
Now therefore
hearken unto their voice:
howbeit yet
protest solemnly unto them, and
shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
Now
listen to them, but you must
solemnly warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”
And when they
forgat the LORD their God, he
sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
But they
forgot the LORD their God, and He
sold them into the hand of Sisera the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying,
Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were
faint.
Then one of the
soldiers told him, “Your father bound the troops with a
solemn oath, saying, ‘
Cursed is the man who eats food
today.’ That is why the people are
faint.”
And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand
footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
So Saul summoned the troops and numbered them at Telaim—200,000 foot soldiers and 10,000 men of Judah.
And, Behold, the servants of David and
Joab came from pursuing a
troop, and brought in a great
spoil with them: but
Abner was not with David in
Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
Just then David’s
soldiers and
Joab returned from a
raid, bringing with them a great
plunder. But
Abner was not with David in
Hebron because David had sent him on his way in peace.
And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammuah, and Shobab, and
Nathan, and
Solomon,
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab,
Nathan,
Solomon,
David captured from him a thousand
chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot
soldiers, and he
hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the
chariots.
And when the children of
Ammon saw that they
stank before David, the children of
Ammon sent and
hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand
footmen, and of king
Maacah a thousand men, and of
Ish-
tob twelve thousand men.
When the
Ammonites realized that they had become a
stench to David, they
hired twenty thousand
Aramean foot
soldiers from Beth-rehob and Zoba, as well as a thousand men from the king of
Maacah and twelve thousand men from
Tob.
And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew the men of seven hundred
chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand
horsemen, and
smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah,
abide in tents; and my lord
Joab, and the servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
Uriah answered, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master
Joab and his
soldiers are camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!”
And it came to pass, when
Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that
valiant men were.
So as
Joab besieged the city, he assigned Uriah to a place where he saw the strongest enemy
soldiers.
And David comforted Bath-
sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name
Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. So she gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. Now the LORD loved the child
But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as
Absalom for his beauty: from the
sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no
blemish in him.
Now there was not a man in all Israel as handsome and highly praised as
Absalom. From the
sole of his foot to the top of his head, he did not have a single
flaw.
And he also that is
valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly
melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are
valiant men.
Then even the most
valiant soldier with the heart of a lion will
melt with fear, because all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man who has
valiant men with him.
In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if
Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.
You love those who
hate you and
hate those who love you! For you have made it clear
today that the commanders and
soldiers mean nothing to you. I know
today that if
Absalom were alive and all of us were dead, it would have pleased you!
But
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and
Solomon his brother, he called not.
But he did not
invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or his brother
Solomon.
Wherefore
Nathan spake unto Bath-
sheba the mother of
Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith
doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
Then
Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of
Solomon, “Have you not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith has become king, and our lord David does not know it?
Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
Now please, come and let me
advise you. Save your own life and the life of your son
Solomon.
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him,
Didst not thou, my lord, O king,
swear unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then
doth Adonijah reign?
Go at once to King David and say, ‘My lord the king, did you not
swear to your
maidservant, “Surely your son
Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
“My lord,” she replied, “you
yourself swore to your
maidservant by the LORD your God: ‘Surely your son
Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne.’
And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and
Abiathar the priest, and
Joab the captain of the host: but
Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
And he has sacrificed an abundance of oxen,
fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the other sons of the king, as well as
Abiathar the priest and
Joab the commander of the army. But he did not
invite your servant
Solomon.
Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.
Otherwise, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, I and my son Solomon will be counted as criminals.”
But me, even me thy servant, and
Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant
Solomon, hath he not called.
But me your servant he did not
invite, nor
Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor your servant
Solomon.
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son
Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause
Solomon my son to
ride upon mine own
mule, and bring him down to
Gihon:
“Take my servants with you,” said the king. “Set my son
Solomon on my own
mule and take him down to
Gihon.
And let
Zadok the priest and
Nathan the prophet
anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the
trumpet, and say, God save king
Solomon.
There
Zadok the priest and
Nathan the prophet are to
anoint him king over Israel. You are to blow the ram’s horn and declare, ‘Long live King
Solomon!’
As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
Just as the LORD was with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon and make his throne even greater than that of my lord King David.”
So
Zadok the priest, and
Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused
Solomon to
ride upon king David’s
