stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall
afflict them four hundred years;

Canaan—as an eternal possession; and I will be their God.”
And he that is eight days old shall be
circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any
stranger, which is not of thy seed.

stranger, were
circumcised with him.

stranger and a
sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may
bury my dead out of my sight.

bury my dead.”
And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest

strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite
devoured also our money.
Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? Not only has he sold us, but he has certainly
squandered what was paid for us.

Canaan, the land of their

strangers.

Canaan, the land where they lived as foreigners.
Seven days shall there be no
leaven found in your houses: for
whosoever eateth that which is
leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a
stranger, or born in the land.
For seven days there must be no
leaven found in your houses. If
anyone eats something
leavened, that person, whether a foreigner or native of the land, must be cut off from the congregation of Israel.
And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the
ordinance of the
passover: There shall no
stranger eat thereof:
And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the
Passover: No foreigner is to eat of it.
And when a
stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
One law shall be to him that is
homeborn, and unto the
stranger that sojourneth among you.
The same law shall apply to both the native and the foreigner who resides among you.”
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy
manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates:
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your
manservant or
maidservant or
livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates.
Thou shalt neither
vex a
stranger, nor
oppress him: for ye were
strangers in the land of Egypt.
Also thou shalt not
oppress a
stranger: for ye know the heart of a
stranger, seeing ye were
strangers in the land of Egypt.
Do not
oppress a foreign resident, since you
yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine
ass may rest, and the son of thy
handmaid, and the
stranger, may be refreshed.
For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your
donkey may rest and the son of your
maidservant may be refreshed, as well as the foreign resident.
They must eat those things by which
atonement was made for their
ordination and
consecration. But no outsider may eat them, because these things are sacred.

whosoever putteth any of it upon a
stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
Anyone who mixes
perfume like it or puts it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”

afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a
stranger that sojourneth among you:
This is to be a permanent statute for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month, you shall humble
yourselves and not do any work—whether the native or the foreigner who resides among you—
And thou shalt say unto them,
Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the
strangers which
sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering of sacrifice,
Tell them that if
anyone from the house of Israel or any foreigner living among them offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice
And
whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the
strangers that
sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
If
anyone from the house of Israel or a foreigner living among them eats any blood, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from among his people.
Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
Therefore I say to the Israelites, ‘None of you may eat blood, nor may any foreigner living among you eat blood.’
And
whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the
strangers that
sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
And if any
Israelite or foreigner living among them hunts down a wild animal or bird that may be eaten, he must
drain its blood and cover it with
dirt.
And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was
torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a
stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
And any person, whether native or foreigner, who eats anything found dead or
mauled by wild beasts must wash his clothes and
bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening; then he will be clean.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
And thou shalt not
glean thy
vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every
grape of thy
vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and
stranger: I am the LORD your God.
You must not strip your
vineyard bare or gather its fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God.
And if a
stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not
vex him.
When a foreigner resides with you in your land, you must not
oppress him.
But the
stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as
thyself; for ye were
strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born and love him as
yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel,
Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the
strangers that
sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto
Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
“Tell the Israelites, ‘Any
Israelite or foreigner living in Israel who gives any of his children to
Molech must be put to death. The people of the land are to stone him.
There shall no
stranger eat of the holy thing: a
sojourner of the priest, or an
hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing.
No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the
guest of a priest or his
hired hand eat it.
If the priest’s daughter also be married unto a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
If the priest’s daughter is married to a man other than a priest, she is not to eat of the sacred contributions.
But if the priest’s daughter be a widow, or
divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father’s house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s meat: but there shall no
stranger eat thereof.
But if a priest’s daughter with no children becomes widowed or
divorced and returns to her father’s house, she may share her father’s food as in her youth. But no outsider may share it.
Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them,
Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the
strangers in Israel, that will offer his
oblation for all his vows, and for all his
freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering;
“Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites and tell them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any foreign resident who presents a gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, whether to
fulfill a
vow or as a
freewill offering,
Neither from a
stranger’s hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and
blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
Neither you nor a foreigner shall present food to your God from any such animal. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are
deformed and
flawed.’”
And when ye
reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean
riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any
gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the
stranger: I am the LORD your God.
When you
reap the harvest of your land, do not
reap all the way to the edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the foreign resident. I am the LORD your God.’”
And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must surely be put to death; the whole assembly must surely stone him, whether he is a foreign resident or native; if he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.
Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
You are to have the same standard of law for the foreign resident and the native; for I am the LORD your God.’”
And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy
maid, and for thy
hired servant, and for thy
stranger that sojourneth with thee,
The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
The land must not be sold permanently, because it is Mine, and you are but foreigners and residents with Me.
And if thy brother be
waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt
relieve him:
yea, though he be a
stranger, or a
sojourner; that he may live with thee.
Now if your
countryman becomes destitute and cannot support himself among you, then you are to help him as you would a foreigner or
stranger, so that he can continue to live among you.
Moreover of the children of the
strangers that do
sojourn among you, of them shall ye
buy, and of their families that are with you, which they
begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
You may also purchase them from the foreigners residing among you or their clans living among you who are born in your land. These may become your property.
And if a
sojourner or
stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the
stranger or
sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the
stranger’s family:
If a foreigner residing among you prospers, but your
countryman dwelling near him becomes destitute and sells himself to the foreigner or to a member of his clan,
And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the
stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever it is to be pitched, the Levites are to set it up. Any outsider who goes near it must be put to death.
And thou shalt
appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest’s office: and the
stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
So you shall
appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out the duties of the priesthood; but any outsider who approaches the tabernacle must be put to death.”
But those that
encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the
stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the
sunrise, before the Tent of Meeting. They were to perform the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites; but any outsider who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.
And if a
stranger shall
sojourn among you, and will keep the
passover unto the LORD; according to the
ordinance of the
passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one
ordinance, both for the
stranger, and for him that was born in the land.
If a foreigner dwelling among you wants to observe the
Passover to the LORD, he is to do so according to the
Passover statute and its ordinances. You are to apply the same statute to both the foreigner and the native of the land.’”
And if a
stranger sojourn with you, or
whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as ye do, so he shall do.
And for the generations to come, if a foreigner residing with you or someone else among you wants to prepare an offering made by fire as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, he is to do exactly as you do.
One
ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the
stranger that sojourneth with you, an
ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the
stranger be before the LORD.
The assembly is to have the same statute both for you and for the foreign resident; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.
One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.
The same law and the same
ordinance will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing with you.”
And it shall be
forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the
stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.
Then the whole congregation of Israel and the foreigners residing among them will be
forgiven, since it happened to all the people
unintentionally.
Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
You shall have the same law for the one who acts in error, whether he is a native-born
Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.
But the soul that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a
stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no
stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and his followers.
And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a
stranger shall not come
nigh unto you.
They are to join you and attend to the duties of the Tent of Meeting, doing all the work at the Tent; but no outsider may come near you.
Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest’s office for every thing of the altar, and within the
vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest’s office unto you as a service of gift: and the
stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
But only you and your sons shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and what is inside the
veil, and you are to perform that service. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a gift, but any outsider who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”
And he that gathereth the ashes of the
heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the
stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.
The man who has gathered up the ashes of the
heifer must also wash his clothes, and he will be
ceremonially unclean until evening. This is a permanent statute for the Israelites and for the foreigner residing among them.
These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the
stranger, and for the
sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may
flee thither.
These six cities will serve as a refuge for the Israelites and for the foreigner or
stranger among them, so that
anyone who kills a person
unintentionally may
flee there.
And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
At that time I charged your judges: “Hear the disputes between your brothers, and judge fairly between a man and his brother or a foreign resident.
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy
manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine
ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates; that thy
manservant and thy
maidservant may rest as well as thou.
but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your
manservant or
maidservant, nor your ox or
donkey or any of your
livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates, so that your
manservant and
maidservant may rest as you do.
He
doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the
stranger, in giving him food and
raiment.
He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing.
Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
So you also must love the foreigner, since you
yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the
stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an
alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not
seethe a
kid in his mother’s milk.
You are not to eat any
carcass; you may give it to the foreigner residing within your gates, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. You must not
cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
And the
Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the
stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
Then the
Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance among you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come and eat and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all the work of your hands.
And thou shalt
rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite that is within thy gates, and the
stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there.
and you shall
rejoice before the LORD your God in the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
And thou shalt
rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite, the
stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.
And you shall
rejoice in your feast—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
you are to
appoint over
yourselves the king whom the LORD your God shall choose.
Appoint a king from among your brothers; you are not to set over
yourselves a foreigner who is not one of your brothers.
Thou shalt not
abhor an
Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not
abhor an Egyptian; because thou
wast a
stranger in his land.
Do not
despise an
Edomite, for he is your brother. Do not
despise an Egyptian, because you lived as a foreigner in his land.
Unto a
stranger thou mayest
lend upon
usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not
lend upon
usury: that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land
whither thou goest to possess it.
You may charge a foreigner interest, but not your brother, so that the LORD your God may
bless you in everything to which you put your hand in the land that you are entering to possess.
Thou shalt not
oppress an
hired servant that is poor and
needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy
strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:
Do not
oppress a
hired hand who is poor and
needy, whether he is a brother or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.
Thou shalt not
pervert the judgment of the
stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow’s
raiment to
pledge:
Do not deny justice to the foreigner or the fatherless, and do not take a widow’s
cloak as security.
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast
forgot a
sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to
fetch it: it shall be for the
stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
If you are harvesting in your field and
forget a
sheaf there, do not go back to get it. It is to be left for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may
bless you in all the work of your hands.
When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
When you beat the olives from your trees, you must not go over the branches again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy
vineyard, thou shalt not
glean it afterward: it shall be for the
stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
When you gather the grapes of your
vineyard, you must not go over the vines again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
And thou shalt
rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the
Levite, and the
stranger that is among you.
So you shall
rejoice—you, the
Levite, and the foreigner dwelling among you—in all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household.
When thou hast made an end of
tithing all the
tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of
tithing, and hast given it unto the
Levite, the
stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
When you have finished laying aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the
tithe, you are to give it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat and be filled within your gates.
Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the
hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the
Levite, and unto the
stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not
transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:
Then you shall declare in the presence of the LORD your God, “I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all the commandments You have given me. I have not
transgressed or forgotten Your commandments.
Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the
stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
The foreigner living among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink down lower and lower.
Your little ones, your wives, and thy
stranger that is in thy camp, from the
hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
your children and wives, and the foreigners in your camps who cut your wood and draw your water—
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may
listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and to follow carefully all the words of this law.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a
whoring after the gods of the
strangers of the land,
whither they go to be among them, and will
forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
And the LORD said to Moses, “You will soon rest with your fathers, and these people will rise up and
prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will
forsake Me and break the covenant I have made with them.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the
stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount
Gerizim, and half of them over against mount
Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should
bless the people of Israel.
All Israel, foreigners and citizens alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD facing the
Levitical priests who carried it. Half of the people stood in front of Mount
Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount
Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded earlier, to
bless the people of Israel.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the
strangers that were
conversant among them.
There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua failed to read before the whole assembly of Israel, including the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who lived among them.
These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the
stranger that sojourneth among them, that
whosoever killeth any person at unawares might
flee thither, and not die by the hand of the
avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
These are the cities appointed for all the Israelites and foreigners among them, so that
anyone who kills a person
unintentionally may
flee there and not die by the hand of the
avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly.
And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside
hither into the city of a
stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.
But his master replied, “We will not turn aside to the city of foreigners, where there are no Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah.”
Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
At this, she fell on her face, bowing low to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you should take notice of me, even though I am a foreigner?”
And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
And David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, “Where are you from?” “I am the son of a foreigner,” he answered. “I am an Amalekite.”
Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and

Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why should you also go with us? Go back and stay with the new king, since you are both a foreigner and an exile from your homeland.
Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be

Foreigners cower before me; when they hear me, they obey me.
Strangers shall
fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
Foreigners lose heart and come
trembling from their strongholds.
And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
On the third day after I gave birth, this woman also had a
baby. We were alone, with no one in the house but the two of us.
Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name’s sake;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your name—
Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,
