And it came to pass, when
Jezebel heard that
Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that
Jezebel said to
Ahab, Arise,
take possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for
Naboth is not alive, but dead.
When
Jezebel heard that
Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to
Ahab, “Get up and
take possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, who refused to give it to you for silver. For
Naboth is no longer alive, but dead.”
And it came to pass, when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, that
Ahab rose up to go down to the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite, to
take possession of it.
And when
Ahab heard that
Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to
take possession of the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite.
Arise, go down to meet
Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the
vineyard of
Naboth,
whither he is gone down to possess it.
“Get up and go down to meet
Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria. See, he is in the
vineyard of
Naboth, of which he has gone to
take possession.
And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also
taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs
licked the blood of
Naboth shall dogs
lick thy blood, even thine.
Tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Have you not murdered a man and seized his land?’ Then tell him that this is also what the LORD says: ‘In the place where the dogs
licked up the blood of
Naboth, there also the dogs will
lick up your blood—
yes, yours!’”
Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will
take away thy
posterity, and will cut off from
Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will bring
calamity on you and
consume your descendants; I will cut off from
Ahab every male in Israel, both slave and free.
And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that
Ramoth in
Gilead is ours, and we be still, and
take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
who said to his servants, “Do you not know that
Ramoth-
gilead is ours, but we have failed to
take it from the hand of the king of
Aram?”
And the king of Israel said,
Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to
Joash the king’s son;
And the king of Israel declared, “
Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to
Joash the king’s son,
And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, O people, every one of you.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “
Take heed, all you people!”
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his
chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and
take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
And he walked in all the ways of
Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not
taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
And
Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of his father
Asa; he did not turn away from them, but did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. The high places, however, were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And the sons of the prophets that were at
Bethel came forth to
Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will
take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said,
Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
Then the sons of the prophets at
Bethel came out to
Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will
take your master away from you
today?” “
Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
And the sons of the prophets that were at
Jericho came to
Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will
take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered,
Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
Then the sons of the prophets at
Jericho came up to
Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will
take your master away from you
today?” “
Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that
Elijah said unto
Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be
taken away from thee. And
Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
After they had crossed over,
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am
taken away from you?” “Please, let me
inherit a double portion of your spirit,”
Elisha replied.
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
“You have requested a difficult thing,” said
Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am
taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath
taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has
taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,”
Elisha replied.
Now there
cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto
Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the
creditor is come to
take unto him my two sons to be
bondmen.
Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets
cried out to
Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And now his
creditor is coming to
take my two children as his slaves!”
And when he had
taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till
noon, and then died.
After the servant had
picked him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her
lap until
noon, and then he died.
Then he said to Gehazi,
Gird up thy loins, and
take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man,
salute him not; and if any
salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
So
Elisha said to Gehazi, “
Tie up your garment,
take my staff in your hand, and go! If you meet
anyone, do not
greet him, and if
anyone greets you, do not answer him. Then lay my staff on the boy’s face.”
And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite woman.” So he called her and she came. Then
Elisha said, “
Pick up your son.”
And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away
captive out of the land of Israel a little
maid; and she waited on
Naaman’s wife.
At this time the Arameans had gone out in bands and had
taken a young
girl from the land of Israel, and she was serving
Naaman’s wife.
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
Then
Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.
But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will not accept it.” And although
Naaman urged him to accept it, he refused.
But Gehazi, the servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath
spared Naaman this
Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and
take somewhat of him.
Gehazi, the servant of
Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has
spared this
Aramean,
Naaman, while not accepting what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
And
Naaman said, Be content,
take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.
But
Naaman insisted, “Please,
take two talents.” And he urged Gehazi to accept them. Then he
tied up two talents of silver in two bags along with two sets of clothing and gave them to two of his servants, who carried them
ahead of Gehazi.
And the sons of the prophets said unto
Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
Now the sons of the prophets said to
Elisha, “Please
take note that the place where we meet with you is too small for us.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
Please let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a place to live there.” “Go,” said
Elisha.
Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
“Lift it out,” he said, and the man reached out his hand and took it.
And
Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
And
Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will
take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria.
And he answered, Thou shalt not
smite them: wouldest thou
smite those whom thou hast
taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
“Do not kill them,” he replied. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and then return to their master.”
But
Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but
ere the
messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to
take away mine head? look, when the
messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
Now
Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a
messenger ahead, but before he arrived,
Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent someone to cut off my head? Look, when the
messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”
And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now
shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be
hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
So the king got up in the night and said to his servants, “Let me tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are
starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the field, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we will
take them alive and enter the city.’”
And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
But one of his servants replied, “Please, have scouts
take five of the horses that remain in the city. Their
plight will be no worse than all the Israelites who are left here. You can see that all the Israelites here are
doomed. So let us send them and find out.”
And the king said unto
Hazael,
Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and
enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
So the king said to
Hazael, “
Take a gift in your hand, go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD through him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
And
Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him,
Gird up thy loins, and
take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to
Ramoth-
gilead:
Now
Elisha the prophet summoned one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “
Tuck your
cloak under your belt,
take this
flask of oil, and go to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And when thou comest thither, look out there
Jehu the son of
Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
When you arrive, look for
Jehu son of
Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go in, get him away from his companions, and
take him to an inner room.
Then
take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the LORD, I have
anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and
flee, and
tarry not.
Then
take the
flask of oil, pour it on his head, and declare, ‘This is what the LORD says: I
anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run. Do not delay!”
And there stood a
watchman on the tower in
Jezreel, and he
spied the company of
Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And
Joram said,
Take an
horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
Now the
watchman standing on the tower in
Jezreel saw
Jehu’s troops approaching, and he called out, “I see a company of troops!” “Choose a rider,”
Joram commanded. “Send him out to meet them and ask, ‘Have you come in peace?’”
Then said
Jehu to Bidkar his captain,
Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou
rode together after
Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him;
And
Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “
Pick him up and throw him into the field of
Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember that when you and I were riding together behind his father
Ahab, the LORD lifted up this burden against him:
Surely I have seen
yesterday the blood of
Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the LORD; and I will requite thee in this
plat, saith the LORD. Now therefore
take and cast him into the
plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.
‘As surely as I saw the blood of
Naboth and the blood of his sons
yesterday, declares the LORD, so will I repay you on this plot of ground, declares the LORD.’ Now then, according to the word of the LORD,
pick him up and throw him on the plot of ground.”
And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this
cursed woman, and
bury her: for she is a king’s daughter.
Then
Jehu went in and
ate and
drank. “
Take care of this
cursed woman,” he said, “and
bury her, for she was the daughter of a king.”
Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will
hearken unto my voice,
take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to
Jezreel by to
morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
Then
Jehu wrote them a second letter and said: “If you are on my side, and if you will obey me, then bring the heads of your master’s sons to me at
Jezreel by this time
tomorrow.” Now the sons of the king, seventy in all, were being brought up by the leading men of the city.
And he said,
Take them alive. And they took them alive, and
slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
Then
Jehu ordered, “
Take them alive.” So his men took them alive, then slaughtered them at the well of Beth-
eked—forty-two men. He
spared none of them.
And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
a third shall be at the gate of Sur, and a third at the gate behind the guards. You are to take turns guarding the temple—
But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
Let the priests
take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house,
wheresoever any breach shall be found.
Let every priest receive it from his
constituency, and let it be used to repair any damage found in the temple.”
Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
So King
Joash called Jehoiada and the other priests and said, “Why have you not repaired the damage to the temple? Now, therefore,
take no more money from your
constituency, but hand it over for the repair of the temple.”
And
Elisha said unto him,
Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
Elisha told him, “
Take a bow and some arrows.” So Jehoash took a bow and some arrows.
And he said,
Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel,
Smite upon the ground. And he
smote thrice, and stayed.
Then
Elisha said, “
Take the arrows!” So he took them, and
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground!” So he struck the ground three times and stopped.
And Jehoash the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had
taken out of the hand of
Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had
taken in battle from his father
Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered the cities of Israel.
Howbeit the high places were not
taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.
And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of
Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was
taken.
And at the end of three years, the Assyrians captured it. So Samaria was captured in the sixth year of
Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel.
But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath
taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You must worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
Until I come and
take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and
hearken not unto
Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
until I come and
take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey—so that you may live and not die. But do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for he misleads you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again
take root
downward, and bear fruit upward.
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again
take root below and bear fruit above.
And Isaiah said,
Take a
lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the
boil, and he recovered.
Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a
poultice of figs.” So they brought it and applied it to the
boil, and
Hezekiah recovered.
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they
take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and
polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he sent someone to
take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to
defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had
taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that
pertained to the king of Egypt.
Now the king of Egypt did not march out of his land again, because the king of Babylon had
taken all his territory, from the
Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and
slew them at Riblah in the land of
Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was
taken into exile, away from its own land.
And the God of Israel
stirred up the spirit of
Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
So the God of Israel
stirred up the spirit of
Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria) to
take the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh into exile. And he brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river of Gozan, where they remain to this day.
And Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elead, whom the men of
Gath that were born in that land
slew, because they came down to
take away their cattle.
Shuthelah, Bered his son, Tahath his son, Eleadah his son, Tahath his son, Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son. Ezer and Elead were killed by the natives of
Gath, because they went down to
steal their
livestock.
And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
And
Satan stood up against Israel, and
provoked David to number Israel.
Then
Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to
take a census of Israel.
And David said unto God, I have
sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I
beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very
foolishly.
Then David said to God, “I have
sinned greatly because I have done this thing. Now I
beg You to
take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very
foolishly.”
And Ornan said unto David,
Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the
threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
Ornan said to David, “My lord the king may
take whatever seems good. Look, I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the
threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering—I will give it all.”
And king David said to Ornan,
Nay; but I will
verily buy it for the full price: for I will not
take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
“No,” replied King David, “I
insist on paying the full price, for I will not
take for the LORD what belongs to you, nor will I offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou
takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add
thereto.
Now behold, I have
taken great pains to provide for the house of the LORD—100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron too great to be
weighed. I have also provided timber and stone, and you may add to them.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being
taken for
Eleazar, and one
taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family being
taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
Consider now that the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong and do it.”
And we will cut wood out of
Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in flotes by sea to
Joppa; and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
We will cut logs from
Lebanon, as many as you need, and we will
float them to you as rafts by sea down to
Joppa. Then you can
take them up to Jerusalem.”
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children
take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is required to
take an oath, and he comes to
take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who
takes them as
captives to a land far or near,
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were
taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had
taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
But the high places were not
taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of
Asa was perfect all his days.
The high places were not removed from Israel, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
And he placed forces in all the
fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which
Asa his father had
taken.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father
Asa had captured.
Then the king of Israel said,
Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to
Joash the king’s son;
And the king of Israel declared, “
Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to
Joash the king’s son,
And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, all ye people.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “
Take heed, all you people!”
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: therefore he said to his
chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and
take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
However, some good is found in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles from the land and have set your heart on seeking God.”
And said to the judges,
Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
Then he said to the judges, “Consider carefully what you do, for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD, who is with you when you render judgment.
Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you;
take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
And now, may the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or
partiality or
bribery.”
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set
yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
You need not fight this battle.
Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them
tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
And when
Jehoshaphat and his people came to
take away the
spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they
stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the
spoil, it was so much.
Then
Jehoshaphat and his people went to carry off the
plunder, and they found on the bodies an abundance of goods and valuables—more than they could carry away. They were gathering the
plunder for three days because there was so much.
Howbeit the high places were not
taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.
Now hear me therefore, and deliver the
captives again, which ye have
taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Now therefore,
listen to me and return the
captives you took from your
kinsmen, for the fierce anger of the LORD is upon you.”
The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.
The Philistines had also
raided the cities of the foothills and the Negev of Judah, capturing and occupying Beth-shemesh,
Aijalon, and Gederoth, as well as Soco, Timnah, and Gimzo with their villages.
For
Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had
taken a portion from the house of the LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.
For the king had
taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the
passover in the second month.
For the king and his officials and the whole assembly in Jerusalem had decided to keep the
Passover in the second month,
And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the
brook Kidron.
They proceeded to remove the altars in Jerusalem and to take away the incense altars and throw them into the Kidron Valley.
Hath not the same
Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
Did not
Hezekiah himself remove His high places and His altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn sacrifices’?
Then they
cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to
affright them, and to trouble them; that they might
take the city.
Then the Assyrians called out loudly in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to
frighten and
terrify them in order to capture the city.
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will
take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
While they were bringing out the money that had been taken into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD written by Moses.
