Woe to him
that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
Woe to him who builds a city with
bloodshed and establishes a town by iniquity!
Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts
that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall
weary themselves for very vanity?
Is it not indeed from the LORD of Hosts
that the labor of the people only feeds the fire, and the nations
weary themselves in vain?
Woe unto him
that giveth his neighbour drink,
that puttest thy
bottle to him, and makest him
drunken also,
that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin until they are
drunk, in order to
gaze at their nakedness!
For the violence of
Lebanon shall cover thee, and the
spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all
that dwell therein.
For your violence against
Lebanon will
overwhelm you, and the destruction of animals will
terrify you, because of your
bloodshed against men and your violence against the land, the city, and all their dwellers.
What profiteth the
graven image
that the maker thereof hath
graven it; the
molten image, and a teacher of lies,
that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make
dumb idols?
What use is an
idol,
that a
craftsman should
carve it— or an image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation; he makes idols
that cannot speak.
Woe unto him
that saith to the wood,
Awake; to the
dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Woe to him who says to wood, ‘
Awake!’ or to silent stone, ‘Arise!’ Can it give guidance? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.”
Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea,
that thou
didst ride upon thine horses and thy
chariots of salvation?
Were You
angry at the rivers, O LORD? Was Your wrath against the streams? Did You
rage against the sea when You
rode on Your horses, on Your
chariots of salvation?
When I heard, my
belly trembled; my lips
quivered at the voice:
rottenness entered into my bones, and I
trembled in myself,
that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will
invade them with his troops.
I heard and
trembled within; my lips
quivered at the sound. Decay entered my bones; I
trembled where I stood. Yet I must wait patiently for the day of distress to come upon the people who
invade us.
The word of the LORD which came unto
Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of
Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
This is the word of the LORD
that came to
Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of
Hezekiah, in the days of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:
And them
that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them
that worship and
that swear by the LORD, and
that swear by Malcham;
those who bow on the rooftops to worship the host of heaven, those who bow down and
swear by the LORD but also
swear by Milcom,
And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.
and those who turn back from following the LORD, neither seeking the LORD nor inquiring of Him.”
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice,
that I will
punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange
apparel.
“On the Day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will
punish the princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign
apparel.
In the same day also will I
punish all those
that leap on the
threshold, which fill their masters’ houses with violence and
deceit.
And it shall come to pass in
that day, saith the LORD,
that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an
howling from the second, and a great
crashing from the hills.
On
that day,” declares the LORD, “a cry will go up from the Fish Gate, a
wail from the Second District, and a loud
crashing from the hills.
Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they
that bear silver are cut off.
Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who
weigh out silver will be cut off.
And it shall come to pass at
that time,
that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and
punish the men
that are settled on their
lees:
that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.
And at
that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and
punish the men settled in
complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’
That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and
desolation, a day of darkness and
gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
That day will be a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and
desolation, a day of darkness and
gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
And I will bring distress upon men,
that they shall walk like blind men, because they have
sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
I will bring such distress on mankind
that they will walk like the blind, because they have
sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath; but the whole land shall be
devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a
speedy riddance of all them
that dwell in the land.
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the Day of the LORD’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy.” For indeed, He will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.
Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O
Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee,
that there shall be no inhabitant.
Woe to the dwellers of the
seacoast, O nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O
Canaan, land of the Philistines: “I will destroy you, and no one will be left.”
This is the
rejoicing city
that dwelt
carelessly,
that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a
desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one
that passeth by her shall hiss, and
wag his hand.
This carefree city
that dwells securely,
that thinks to herself: “I am it, and there is none besides me,” what a ruin she has become, a resting place for beasts.
Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his
fist.
I have cut off the nations: their towers are
desolate; I made their streets waste,
that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so
that there is no man,
that there is none inhabitant.
“I have cut off the nations; their corner towers are destroyed. I have made their streets deserted with no one to pass through. Their cities are laid waste, with no man, no inhabitant.
Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day
that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations,
that I may
assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine
indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be
devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Therefore wait for Me,” declares the LORD, “until the day I rise to
testify. For My decision is to gather nations, to
assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them My
indignation— all My burning anger. For all the earth will be consumed by the fire of My jealousy.
For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.
For then I will restore pure lips to the peoples, that all may call upon the name of the LORD and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.
In
that day shalt thou not be
ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast
transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them
that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be
haughty because of my holy mountain.
On
that day you will not be put to shame for any of the deeds by which you have
transgressed against Me. For then I will remove from among you those who
rejoice in their pride, and you will never again be
haughty on My holy mountain.
In
that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to
Zion, Let not thine hands be
slack.
On
that day they will say to Jerusalem: “Do not fear, O
Zion; do not let your hands fall
limp.
I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.
“I will gather those among you who
grieve over the appointed feasts, so
that you will no longer suffer reproach.
Behold, at
that time I will
undo all
that afflict thee: and I will save her
that halteth, and gather her
that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.
Behold, at
that time, I will deal with all who
afflict you. I will save the
lame and gather the scattered; and I will
appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth.
At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD.
At
that time I will bring you in;
yes, at
that time I will gather you. For I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your
captives before your very eyes,” says the LORD.
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’S house should be built.
that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.’”
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye
clothe you, but there is none warm; and he
that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a
bag with holes.
You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but never have enough. You drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but never get warm. You
earn wages to put into a
bag pierced through.”
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be
glorified, saith the LORD.
Go up into the hills, bring down
lumber, and build the house, so
that I may take pleasure in it and be
glorified, says the LORD.
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I
blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is
busy with his own house.
And I called for a
drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon
that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
I have summoned a
drought on the fields and on the mountains, on the grain, new wine, and oil, and on whatever the ground yields, on man and beast, and on all the labor of your hands.”
Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not appear to you like nothing in comparison?’
According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt. And My Spirit remains among you; do not be afraid.”
If one bear holy flesh in the
skirt of his garment, and with his
skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread,
stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does
that item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
Then said
Haggai, If one
that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
Then answered
Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and
that which they offer there is unclean.
Then
Haggai replied, “So it is with this people and this nation before Me, declares the LORD, and so it is with every work of their hands; whatever they offer there is
defiled.
Since those days were, when one came to an
heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
from
that time, when one came expecting a
heap of twenty ephahs of grain, there were but ten. When one came to the winepress to draw out fifty baths, there were but twenty.
Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and
twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day
that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid, consider it.
Consider carefully from this day forward—from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid—consider carefully:
And again the word of the LORD came unto
Haggai in the four and
twentieth day of the month, saying,
For the second time
that day, the twenty-fourth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to
Haggai, saying,
Speak to
Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will
shake the heavens and the earth;
“Tell
Zerubbabel governor of Judah
that I am about to
shake the heavens and the earth:
And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the
chariots, and those
that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
I will overturn royal thrones and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overturn
chariots and their riders; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.
In
that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O
Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a
signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
On
that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will take you, My servant,
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, declares the LORD, and I will make you like My
signet ring, for I have chosen you, declares the LORD of Hosts.”
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
So tell the people that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Return to Me, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of Hosts.’
Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have
cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor
hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed
that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Turn now from your evil ways and deeds.’ But they did not
listen or pay attention to Me, declares the LORD.
I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the
myrtle trees
that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses,
speckled, and white.
I looked out into the night and saw a man riding on a red horse. He was standing among the
myrtle trees in the hollow, and behind him were red,
sorrel, and white horses.
Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel
that talked with me said unto me, I will
shew thee what these be.
“What are these, my lord?” I asked. And the angel who was speaking with me replied, “I will show you what they are.”
And the man
that stood among the
myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and
fro through the earth.
Then the man standing among the
myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the LORD has sent to
patrol the earth.”
And they answered the angel of the LORD
that stood among the
myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and
fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
And the riders answered the angel of the LORD who was standing among the
myrtle trees, “We have
patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and
tranquil.”
And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
So the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who was speaking with me.
So the angel
that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am
jealous for Jerusalem and for
Zion with a great jealousy.
Then the angel who was speaking with me said, “
Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I am very
jealous for Jerusalem and
Zion,
And I am very
sore displeased with the heathen
that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the
affliction.
but I am fiercely
angry with the nations
that are at ease. For I was a little
angry, but they have added to the
calamity.’
Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort
Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
Proclaim further
that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘My cities will again overflow with prosperity; the LORD will again comfort
Zion and choose Jerusalem.’”
And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he told me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so
that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to
fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to
scatter it.
“What are these coming to do?” I asked. And He replied, “These are the horns
that scattered Judah so
that no one could raise his head; but the
craftsmen have come to
terrify them and throw down these horns of the nations
that have lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to
scatter it.”
And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel came out to meet him
And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
and said to him, “Run and tell
that young man: ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the multitude of men and
livestock within it.
Deliver
thyself, O
Zion,
that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.
“Get up, O
Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the Daughter of Babylon!”
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which
spoiled you: for he
that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “After His Glory has sent Me against the nations
that have
plundered you—for
whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye—
For, behold, I will
shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a
spoil to their servants: and ye shall know
that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.
I will surely wave My hand over them, so
that they will become
plunder for their own servants. Then you will know
that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me.”
And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
“On that day many nations will join themselves to the LORD, and they will become My people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you.
And the LORD said to
Satan: “The LORD rebukes you,
Satan! Indeed, the LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you! Is not this man a
firebrand snatched from the fire?”
And he answered and spake unto those
that stood before him, saying, Take away the
filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will
clothe thee with change of
raiment.
So the angel said to those standing before him, “Take off his
filthy clothes!” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have removed your iniquity, and I will
clothe you with splendid robes.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou
wilt walk in my ways, and if thou
wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these
that stand by.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘If you walk in My ways and keep My instructions, then you will
govern My house and will also have charge of My courts; and I will give you a place among these who are standing here.
Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed a sign. For behold, I am going to bring My servant, the Branch.
For behold the stone
that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will
engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of
that land in one day.
See the stone I have set before Joshua; on
that one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will
engrave on it an inscription, declares the LORD of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.
On
that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, you will each
invite your
neighbor to sit under your own vine and fig tree.’”
And the angel
that talked with me came again, and
waked me, as a man
that is
wakened out of his sleep,
Then the angel who was speaking with me returned and
woke me, as a man is
awakened from his sleep.
So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
“What are these, my lord?” I asked the angel who was speaking with me.
Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
“Do you not know what they are?” replied the angel. “No, my lord,” I answered.
The hands of
Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know
that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.
“The hands of
Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know
that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you.
Then said he, These are the two
anointed ones,
that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.
So he said, “These are the two
anointed ones who are standing beside the Lord of all the earth.”
Then said he unto me, This is the
curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one
that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one
that sweareth shall be cut off as on
that side according to it.
Then he told me, “This is the
curse that is going out over the face of all the land, for according to one side of the
scroll, every
thief will be removed; and according to the other side, every
perjurer will be removed.
I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the
thief, and into the house of him
that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall
consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
I will send it out, declares the LORD of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the
thief and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain inside his house and destroy it, down to its timbers and stones.”
Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.”
And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an
ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.
“What is it?” I asked. And he replied, “A measuring
basket is going forth.” Then he continued, “This is their iniquity in all the land.”
And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman
that sitteth in the midst of the
ephah.
And behold, the cover of lead was raised, and there was a woman sitting inside the
basket.
Then said I to the angel
that talked with me,
Whither do these bear the
ephah?
“Where are they taking the
basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking with me.
Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”
And the bay went forth, and sought to go
that they might walk to and
fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and
fro through the earth. So they walked to and
fro through the earth.
As the strong horses went out, they were eager to go and
patrol the earth; and the LORD said, “Go and
patrol the earth.” So they
patrolled the earth.
Then
cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these
that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
Then the LORD summoned me and said, “Behold, those going to the land of the north have given rest to My Spirit in the land of the north.”
Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of
Josiah the son of
Zephaniah;
“Take an offering from the exiles—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon—and go
that same day to the house of
Josiah son of
Zephaniah.
And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
And you are to tell him that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Here is a man whose name is the Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
And they
that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know
that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will
diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.
Even those far away will come and build the temple of the LORD, and you will know
that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen if you
diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.”
And it came to pass in the fourth year of king
Darius,
that the word of the LORD came unto
Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in
Chisleu;
In the fourth year of King
Darius, the word of the LORD came to
Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.
Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and
mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?
“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and
mourned in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, was it really for Me
that you fasted?
Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath
cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?
Are these not the words
that the LORD proclaimed through the earlier prophets, when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were
populous and prosperous, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?’”
But they refused to
hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears,
that they should not hear.
But they refused to pay attention and turned a
stubborn shoulder; they stopped up their ears from hearing.
Yea, they made their hearts as an
adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
They made their hearts like flint and would not
listen to the law or to the words
that the LORD of Hosts had sent by His Spirit through the earlier prophets. Therefore great anger came from the LORD of Hosts.
Therefore it is come to pass,
that as he
cried, and they would not hear; so they
cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
And just as I had called and they would not
listen, so when they called I would not
listen, says the LORD of Hosts.
But I scattered them with a
whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was
desolate after them,
that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land
desolate.
But I scattered them with a
whirlwind among all the nations
that they had not known, and the land was left
desolate behind them so
that no one could come or go. Thus they turned the pleasant land into a
desolation.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Let your hands be strong, you who now hear these words spoken by the prophets who were present when the foundations were laid to rebuild the temple, the house of the LORD of Hosts.
For before these days there was no
hire for man, nor any
hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him
