But
Jehu took no
heed to walk in
the law of
the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from
the sins of
Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
Yet
Jehu was not careful to follow
the instruction of
the LORD,
the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from
the sins that
Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
In those days
the LORD began to cut Israel short: and
Hazael smote them in all
the coasts of Israel;
In those days
the LORD began to reduce
the size of Israel.
Hazael defeated
the Israelites throughout
their territory
From Jordan eastward, all
the land of
Gilead,
the Gadites, and
the Reubenites, and
the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by
the river
Arnon, even
Gilead and
Bashan.
Now
the rest of
the acts of
Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Israel?
As for
the rest of
the acts of
Jehu, along with all his accomplishments and all his might, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Israel?
And
Jehu rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and his son
Jehoahaz reigned in his place.
And
the time that
Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
So
the duration of
Jehu’s reign over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
And when
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all
the seed royal.
But Jehosheba daughter of King
Joram,
the sister of
Ahaziah, took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among
the sons of
the king who were being murdered. She put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom to hide him from
Athaliah, and he was not killed.
And he was with her
hid in
the house of
the LORD six years. And
Athaliah did reign over
the land.
And
Joash remained hidden with his
nurse in
the house of
the LORD for six years while
Athaliah ruled
the land.
And
the seventh year Jehoiada sent and
fetched the rulers over hundreds, with
the captains and
the guard, and brought
them to him into
the house of
the LORD, and made a covenant with
them, and took an oath of
them in
the house of
the LORD, and shewed
them the king’s son.
Then in the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and had them brought into the house of the LORD. There he made a covenant with them and put them under oath. He showed them the king’s son
And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
and commanded them, “This is what you are to do: A third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath shall guard the royal palace,
And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
a third shall be at the gate of Sur, and a third at the gate behind the guards. You are to take turns guarding the temple—
And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.
the two divisions that would go off duty on the Sabbath are to guard the house of the LORD for the king.
And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
You must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who approaches
the ranks must be put to death. You must stay close to
the king wherever he goes.”
And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
So the commanders of hundreds did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—and came to Jehoiada the priest.
And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
Then the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields of King David from the house of the LORD.
And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
And the guards stood with weapons in hand surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
And he brought forth
the king’s son, and put
the crown upon him, and gave him
the testimony; and
they made him king, and
anointed him; and
they clapped their hands, and said, God save
the king.
Then Jehoiada brought out
the king’s son, put
the crown on him, presented him with
the Testimony, and proclaimed him king.
They anointed him, and
the people
clapped their hands and declared, “Long live
the king!”
And when
Athaliah heard
the noise of
the guard and of
the people, she came to
the people into
the temple of
the LORD.
When
Athaliah heard
the noise from
the guards and
the people, she went out to
the people in
the house of
the LORD.
And when she looked, behold,
the king stood by a
pillar, as
the manner was, and
the princes and
the trumpeters by
the king, and all
the people of
the land
rejoiced, and
blew with
trumpets: and
Athaliah rent her clothes, and
cried, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw
the king standing by
the pillar, according to
the custom.
The officers and trumpeters were beside
the king, and all
the people of
the land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets.
Then Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason! Treason!”
But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada
the priest ordered
the commanders of hundreds in charge of
the army, “Bring her out between
the ranks, and put to
the sword
anyone who follows her.” For
the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in
the house of
the LORD.”
And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
So
they seized
Athaliah as she reached
the horses’ entrance to
the palace grounds, and
there she was put to death.
And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they should be the LORD’S people; between the king also and the people.
Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.
And all
the people of
the land went into
the house of
Baal, and
brake it down; his altars and his images
brake they in pieces thoroughly, and
slew Mattan
the priest of
Baal before
the altars. And
the priest appointed officers over
the house of
the LORD.
So all
the people of
the land went to
the temple of
Baal and
tore it down.
They smashed the altars and idols to pieces, and
they killed Mattan
the priest of
Baal in front of
the altars. And Jehoiada
the priest posted guards for
the house of
the LORD.
And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
He took with him
the commanders of hundreds,
the Carites,
the guards, and all
the people of
the land, and
they brought
the king down from
the house of
the LORD and entered
the royal palace by way of
the Gate of
the Guards.
Then Joash took his seat on
the royal throne,
And all
the people of
the land
rejoiced, and
the city was in quiet: and
they slew Athaliah with
the sword beside
the king’s house.
and all
the people of
the land
rejoiced. And
the city was quiet, because
Athaliah had been put to
the sword at
the royal palace.
In
the seventh year of
Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beer-
sheba.
In
the seventh year of
Jehu,
Joash became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from
Beersheba.
And Jehoash did that which was right in
the sight of
the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada
the priest
instructed him.
And
Joash did what was right in
the eyes of
the LORD all
the days he was
instructed by Jehoiada
the priest.
But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
Then Joash said to
the priests, “Collect all
the money brought as sacred gifts into
the house of
the LORD—
the census money,
the money from vows, and
the money brought
voluntarily into
the house of
the LORD.
Let
the priests take it to
them, every man of his acquaintance: and let
them repair
the breaches of
the house,
wheresoever any breach shall be found.
Let every priest receive it from his
constituency, and let it be used to repair any damage found in
the temple.”
But it was so, that in
the three and
twentieth year of king Jehoash
the priests had not repaired
the breaches of
the house.
By
the twenty-third year of
the reign of
Joash, however,
the priests had not yet repaired
the damage to
the temple.
Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
So King
Joash called Jehoiada and
the other priests and said, “Why have you not repaired
the damage to
the temple? Now,
therefore, take no more money from your
constituency, but hand it over for
the repair of
the temple.”
And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
So the priests agreed that they would not receive money from the people and that they would not repair the temple themselves.
But Jehoiada
the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in
the lid of it, and set it beside
the altar, on
the right side as one cometh into
the house of
the LORD: and
the priests that kept
the door put
therein all
the money that was brought into
the house of
the LORD.
Then Jehoiada
the priest took a chest, bored a hole in its
lid, and set it beside
the altar on
the right side as one enters
the house of
the LORD.
There the priests who guarded
the threshold put all
the money brought into
the house of
the LORD.
And it was so, when
they saw that
there was much money in
the chest, that
the king’s
scribe and
the high priest came up, and
they put up in bags, and told
the money that was found in
the house of
the LORD.
Whenever
they saw that
there was a large amount of money in
the chest,
the royal
scribe and
the high priest would go up, count
the money brought into
the house of
the LORD, and
tie it up in bags.
And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
Then they would put
the counted money into
the hands of those who
supervised the work on
the house of
the LORD, who in turn would pay those doing
the work—
the carpenters, builders,
And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to
buy timber and
hewed stone to repair
the breaches of
the house of
the LORD, and for all that was laid out for
the house to repair it.
masons, and stonecutters. They also purchased timber and dressed stone to repair the damage to the house of the LORD, and they paid the other expenses of the temple repairs.
Howbeit there were not made for
the house of
the LORD
bowls of silver,
snuffers, basons,
trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of
the money that was brought into
the house of
the LORD:
However,
the money brought into
the house of
the LORD was not used for making silver basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls,
trumpets, or any articles of gold or silver for
the house of
the LORD.
But
they gave that to
the workmen, and repaired
therewith the house of
the LORD.
Instead, it was paid to those doing the work, and with it they repaired the house of the LORD.
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
No accounting was required from
the men who received
the money to pay
the workmen, because
they acted with
integrity.
The trespass money and sin money was not brought into
the house of
the LORD: it was
the priests’.
The money from the guilt offerings and sin offerings was not brought into the house of the LORD; it belonged to the priests.
Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against
Gath, and took it: and
Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
At that time
Hazael king of
Aram marched up and fought against
Gath and captured it.
Then he decided to attack Jerusalem.
And Jehoash king of Judah took all
the hallowed things that
Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and
Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own
hallowed things, and all
the gold that was found in
the treasures of
the house of
the LORD, and in
the king’s house, and sent it to
Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
So King
Joash of Judah took all
the sacred objects dedicated by his fathers—
Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and
Ahaziah,
the kings of Judah—along with his own consecrated items and all
the gold found in
the treasuries of
the house of
the LORD and
the royal palace, and he sent
them to
Hazael king of
Aram. So
Hazael withdrew from Jerusalem.
And
the rest of
the acts of
Joash, and all that he did, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Judah?
As for
the rest of
the acts of
Joash, along with all his accomplishments, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Judah?
And
the servants of
Joash rose up and formed a
conspiracy and killed him at Beth-
millo, on
the road down to Silla.
For Jozachar
the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad
the son of Shomer, his servants,
smote him, and he died; and
they buried him with his fathers in
the city of David: and
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
His servants Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer struck him down, and he died. And
they buried him with his fathers in
the City of David, and his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
In
the three and
twentieth year of
Joash the son of
Ahaziah king of Judah
Jehoahaz the son of
Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
In
the twenty-third year of
the reign of
Joash son of
Ahaziah over Judah,
Jehoahaz son of
Jehu became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria seventeen years.
And he did that which was evil in
the sight of
the LORD, and followed
the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not
therefrom.
And he did evil in
the sight of
the LORD and followed
the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from
them.
And
the anger of
the LORD was
kindled against Israel, and he delivered
them into
the hand of
Hazael king of Syria, and into
the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael, all
their days.
So
the anger of
the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered
them continually into
the hands of
Hazael king of
Aram and his son Ben-
hadad.
Then Jehoahaz sought
the favor of
the LORD, and
the LORD
listened to him because He saw
the oppression that
the king of
Aram had inflicted on Israel.
(And
the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that
they went out from under
the hand of
the Syrians: and
the children of Israel dwelt in
their tents, as
beforetime.
So the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, and they escaped the power of the Arameans. Then the people of Israel lived in their own homes as they had before.
Nevertheless
they departed not from
the sins of
the house of
Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked
therein: and
there remained
the grove also in Samaria.)
Nevertheless,
they did not turn away from
the sins that
the house of
Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, but
they continued to walk in
them.
The Asherah pole even remained standing in Samaria.
Now
the rest of
the acts of
Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Israel?
As for
the rest of
the acts of
Jehoahaz, along with all his accomplishments and his might, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Israel?
And
Jehoahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. And his son Jehoash reigned in his place.
In
the thirty and seventh year of
Joash king of Judah began Jehoash
the son of
Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
In
the thirty-seventh year of
the reign of
Joash over Judah, Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years.
And he did that which was evil in
the sight of
the LORD; he departed not from all
the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked
therein.
And he did evil in
the sight of
the LORD and did not turn away from all
the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit, but he walked in
them.
And
the rest of
the acts of
Joash, and all that he did, and his might
wherewith he fought against
Amaziah king of Judah, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Israel?
As for
the rest of
the acts of Jehoash, along with all his accomplishments and his might, including his war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Israel?
And
Joash slept with his fathers; and
Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and
Joash was buried in Samaria with
the kings of Israel.
And Jehoash rested with his fathers, and
Jeroboam succeeded him on
the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with
the kings of Israel.
Now
Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness
whereof he died. And
Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and
wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father,
the chariot of Israel, and
the horsemen thereof.
When
Elisha had fallen sick with
the illness from which he would die, Jehoash king of Israel came down to him and
wept over him, saying, “My father, my father,
the chariots and
horsemen of Israel!”
And he said to
the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon
the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and
Elisha put his hands upon
the king’s hands.
Then Elisha said to
the king of Israel, “Put your hand on
the bow.” So
the king put his hand on
the bow, and
Elisha put his hands on
the king’s hands.
And he said, Open
the window eastward. And he opened it.
Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said,
The arrow of
the LORD’S
deliverance, and
the arrow of
deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt
smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed
them.
“Open
the east window,” said
Elisha. So he opened it and
Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he shot. And
Elisha declared: “This is
the LORD’s
arrow of victory,
the arrow of victory over
Aram, for you shall strike
the Arameans in Aphek until you have put an end to
them.”
And he said, Take
the arrows. And he took
them. And he said unto
the king of Israel,
Smite upon
the ground. And he
smote thrice, and stayed.
Then Elisha said, “Take
the arrows!” So he took
them, and
Elisha said to
the king of Israel, “Strike
the ground!” So he struck
the ground three times and stopped.
And
the man of God was
wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have
smitten five or six times;
then hadst thou
smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt
smite Syria but
thrice.
But
the man of God was
angry with him and said, “You should have struck
the ground five or six times.
Then you would have struck down
Aram until you had put an end to it. But now you will strike down
Aram only three times.”
And
Elisha died, and
they buried him. And
the bands of
the Moabites invaded
the land at
the coming in of
the year.
And
Elisha died and was buried. Now
the Moabite raiders used to come into
the land every spring.
And it came to pass, as
they were
burying a man, that, behold,
they spied a band of men; and
they cast
the man into
the sepulchre of
Elisha: and when
the man was let down, and touched
the bones of
Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
Once, as
the Israelites were
burying a man, suddenly
they saw a band of raiders, so
they threw
the man’s body into
Elisha’s tomb. And as soon as his body touched
the bones of
Elisha,
the man was revived and stood up on his feet.
And
the LORD was
gracious unto
them, and had
compassion on
them, and had respect unto
them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy
them, neither cast he
them from his presence as yet.
But
the LORD was
gracious to Israel and had
compassion on
them, and He turned toward
them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And to this day,
the LORD has been unwilling to destroy
them or cast
them from His presence.
And Jehoash
the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of
the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of
the hand of
Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered
the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had taken in battle from his father
Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered
the cities of Israel.
In
the second year of
the reign of Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz over Israel,
Amaziah son of
Joash became king of Judah.
And he did that which was right in
the sight of
the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as
Joash his father did.
And he did what was right in
the eyes of
the LORD, but not as his father David had done. He did everything as his father
Joash had done.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet
the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on
the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
And it came to pass, as soon as
the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he
slew his servants which had slain
the king his father.
As soon as
the kingdom was firmly in his
grasp,
Amaziah executed
the servants who had murdered his father
the king.
But
the children of
the murderers he
slew not: according unto that which is written in
the book of
the law of Moses, wherein
the LORD commanded, saying,
The fathers shall not be put to death for
the children, nor
the children be put to death for
the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
He
slew of
Edom in
the valley of salt ten thousand, and took
Selah by war, and called
the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
Amaziah struck down 10,000 Edomites in
the Valley of Salt. He took Sela in battle and called it Joktheel, which is its name to this very day.
Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash,
the son of
Jehoahaz son of
Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in
the face.
Then Amaziah sent messengers to
the king of Israel Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz,
the son of
Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
And Jehoash
the king of Israel sent to
Amaziah king of Judah, saying,
The thistle that was in
Lebanon sent to
the cedar that was in
Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and
there passed by a wild beast that was in
Lebanon, and
trode down
the thistle.
Thou hast indeed
smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted
thee up: glory of this, and
tarry at home: for why shouldest thou
meddle to thy
hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with
thee?
You have indeed defeated
Edom, and your heart has become proud. Glory in that and stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
But
Amaziah would not hear.
Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and
Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in
the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
But
Amaziah would not
listen, and Jehoash king of Israel advanced. He and King
Amaziah of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh in Judah.
And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
And Judah was routed before Israel, and every man fled to his home.
And Jehoash king of Israel took
Amaziah king of Judah,
the son of Jehoash
the son of
Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and
brake down
the wall of Jerusalem from
the gate of Ephraim unto
the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
There at Beth-shemesh, Jehoash king of Israel captured
Amaziah king of Judah,
the son of
Joash,
the son of
Ahaziah.
Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down
the wall of Jerusalem from
the Ephraim Gate to
the Corner Gate—a section of four hundred cubits.
And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
He took all
the gold and silver and all
the articles found in
the house of
the LORD and in
the treasuries of
the royal palace, as well as some hostages.
Then he returned to Samaria.
Now
the rest of
the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with
Amaziah king of Judah, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Israel?
As for
the rest of
the acts of Jehoash, along with his accomplishments, his might, and how he
waged war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Israel?
And Jehoash
slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with
the kings of Israel; and
Jeroboam his son reigned in his
stead.

Jeroboam reigned in his place.
And
Amaziah the son of
Joash king of Judah lived after
the death of Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
Amaziah son of
Joash king of Judah lived for fifteen years after
the death of Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz king of Israel.
And
the rest of
the acts of
Amaziah, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Judah?
As for
the rest of
the acts of
Amaziah, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Judah?
And conspirators
plotted against
Amaziah in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were sent after him to
Lachish, and
they killed him
there.
And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
They carried him back on horses and buried him in Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
And all
the people of Judah took
Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father
Amaziah.
Then all
the people of Judah took
Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father
Amaziah.
He built
Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that
the king
slept with his fathers.
Azariah was
the one who rebuilt
Elath and restored it to Judah after King
Amaziah rested with his fathers.
In
the fifteenth year of
the reign of
Amaziah son of
Joash over Judah,
Jeroboam son of Jehoash became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria forty-one years.
And he did that which was evil in
the sight of
the LORD: he departed not from all
the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in
the sight of
the LORD and did not turn away from all
the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
He restored
the coast of Israel from
the entering of
Hamath unto
the sea of
the plain, according to
the word of
the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by
the hand of his servant
Jonah,
the son of Amittai,
the prophet, which was of
Gath-hepher.
This
Jeroboam restored
the boundary of Israel from Lebo-
hamath to
the Sea of
the Arabah, according to
the word that
the LORD,
the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant
Jonah son of Amittai,
the prophet from
Gath-hepher.
For
the LORD saw
the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for
there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
For
the LORD saw that
the affliction of
the Israelites, both slave and free, was very bitter.
There was no one to help Israel,
And
the LORD said not that he would
blot out
the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved
them by
the hand of
Jeroboam the son of
Joash.
and since
the LORD had said that He would not
blot out
the name of Israel from under heaven, He saved
them by
the hand of
Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
Now
the rest of
the acts of
Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he
warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and
Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are
they not written in
the book of
the chronicles of
the kings of Israel?
As for
the rest of
the acts of
Jeroboam, along with all his accomplishments and might, and how he
waged war and recovered both Damascus and
Hamath for Israel from Judah, are
they not written in
the Book of
the Chronicles of
the Kings of Israel?
And
Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with
the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Jeroboam rested with his fathers,
the kings of Israel. And his son
Zechariah reigned in his place.
In
the twenty and seventh year of
Jeroboam king of Israel began
Azariah son of
Amaziah king of Judah to reign.
And he did that which was right in
the sight of
the LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah had done;
And he did what was right in
the eyes of
the LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had done.
