Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast
forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
Your own evil will discipline you; your own
apostasies will
reprimand you. Consider and
realize how evil and bitter it is for you to
forsake the LORD your God and to have no fear of Me,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
For though thou wash thee with
nitre, and take thee much
sope, yet
thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.
Although you wash with
lye and use an abundance of soap, the
stain of your guilt is still before Me,” declares the Lord GOD.
Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and
thine hands upon
thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not
prosper in them.
Moreover, you will leave that place with your hands on your head, for the LORD has rejected those you trust; you will not
prosper by their help.”
Lift up
thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the land with your
prostitution and wickedness.
Only acknowledge
thine iniquity, that thou hast
transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have rebelled against the LORD your God. You have scattered your favors to foreign gods under every green tree and have not obeyed My voice,’” declares the LORD.
If thou
wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou
wilt put away
thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
“If you will return, O Israel, return to Me,” declares the LORD. “If you will remove your
detestable idols from My sight and no longer waver,
O Jerusalem, wash
thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts
lodge within thee?
Wash the evil from your heart, O Jerusalem, so that you may be saved. How long will you
harbor wicked thoughts within you?
Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
“Your ways and deeds have brought this upon you. This is your punishment; how bitter it is, because it pierces to the heart!”
O LORD, are not
thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast
stricken them, but they have not
grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than stone and refused to
repent.
And they shall eat up
thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and
thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall
impoverish thy
fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
They will
devour your harvest and food; they will
consume your sons and daughters; they will eat up your flocks and herds; they will feed on your vines and fig trees. With the sword they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly
glean the
remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back
thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “
Glean the
remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine. Pass your hand once more like a
grape gatherer over the branches.”
Cut off
thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a
lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and
forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a
lamentation on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and
forsaken the generation of His wrath.’
You dwell in the midst of
deception; in their
deceit they refuse to know Me,” declares the LORD.
O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
Correct me, O LORD, but only with justice— not in Your anger, or You will bring me to nothing.
And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.
And if you ask
yourself, “Why has this happened to me?” It is because of the magnitude of your iniquity that your skirts have been
stripped off and your body has been exposed.
I have seen
thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the
lewdness of thy
whoredom, and
thine abominations on the hills in the fields.
Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem!
wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
And I will make thee to pass with
thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is
kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
Then I will
enslave you to your enemies in a land you do not know, for My anger will
kindle a fire that will burn against you.”
And thou, even
thyself, shalt discontinue from
thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve
thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have
kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.
Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to
slay me:
forgive not their iniquity, neither
blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of
thine anger.
But You, O LORD, know all their deadly plots against me. Do not
wipe out their guilt or
blot out their sin from Your sight. Let them be overthrown before You; deal with them in the time of Your anger.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to
thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and
thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them
captive into Babylon, and shall
slay them with the sword.
For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a terror to
yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword.
And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in
thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast
prophesied lies.
And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house, will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried—you and all your friends to whom you have
prophesied these lies.’”
But
thine eyes and
thine heart are not but for thy
covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
“But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except your own
dishonest gain, on
shedding innocent blood, on practicing
extortion and oppression.”
And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.
If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink it, you are to tell them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘You most certainly must drink it!
Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people;
Nevertheless,
listen now to this message I am speaking in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people.
All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the
chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of
thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.
Why criest thou for
thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of
thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.
Therefore all they that
devour thee shall be
devoured; and all
thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that
spoil thee shall be a
spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
Thus saith the LORD;
Refrain thy voice from
weeping, and
thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
This is what the LORD says: “Keep your voice from
weeping and your eyes from tears, for the reward for your work will come, declares the LORD. Then your children will return from the land of the enemy.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set
thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in mind, the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to these cities of yours.
Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum
thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of
redemption is
thine to
buy it.
Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘
Buy for
yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the right of
redemption to
buy it.’
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is
thine, and the
redemption is
thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
the One great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are on all the ways of the sons of men, to reward each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
And you
yourself will not escape his
grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in
thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
And Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and
rotten rags under
thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
Ebed-melech the
Cushite cried out to Jeremiah, “Put these worn-out rags and clothes under your arms to
pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so,
Then said Jeremiah unto
Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou
wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and
thine house:
Then Jeremiah said to
Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will
survive.
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon
thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon,
forbear: behold, all the land is before thee:
whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.
But now, behold, I am freeing you
today from the chains that were on your wrists. If it pleases you to come with me to Babylon, then come, and I will take care of you. But if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, go no farther. Look, the whole land is before you. Wherever it seems good and right to you, go there.”
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we
beseech thee, our
supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this
remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as
thine eyes do behold us:)
Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire
remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you can see with your own eyes.
Take great stones in
thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the
brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;
“In the sight of the Jews,
pick up some large stones and
bury them in the clay of the brick
pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh’s palace at Tahpanhes.
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of
thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The terror you cause and the pride of your heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures,
thine end is come, and the measure of thy
covetousness.
You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered
thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
All
thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they say, We have
swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
All your enemies open their mouths against you. They hiss and
gnash their teeth, saying, “We have
swallowed her up. This is the day for which we have waited. We have lived to see it!”
The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not
pitied: and he hath caused
thine enemy to
rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of
thine adversaries.
The LORD has done what He
planned; He has accomplished His decree, which He ordained in days of old; He has overthrown you without
pity. He has let the enemy
gloat over you and
exalted the horn of your foes.
Their heart
cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of
thine eye cease.
The hearts of the people cry out to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of
Zion, let your tears run down like a river day and night. Give
yourself no relief, and your eyes no rest.
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out
thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of
thine anger; thou hast killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and old lie together in the dust of the streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
You heard my
plea: “Do not
ignore my cry for relief.”
The punishment of
thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of
Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit
thine iniquity, O daughter of
Edom; he will discover thy sins.
O Daughter of
Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not
prolong your exile. But He will
punish your iniquity, O Daughter of
Edom; He will
expose your sins.
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
“Son of man,” He added, “
listen carefully to all the words I speak to you, and take them to heart.
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at
thine hand.
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or speak out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at
thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut
thyself within
thine house.
Then the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet. He spoke with me and said, “Go, shut
yourself inside your house.
Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and
thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt
prophesy against it.
You must turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and
prophesy against it.
And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a
barber’s
razor, and cause it to pass upon
thine head and upon thy
beard: then take thee balances to
weigh, and divide the hair.
“As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword, use it as a
barber’s
razor, and
shave your head and
beard. Then take a set of scales and divide the hair.
And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and
whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all
thine abominations.
Because of all your abominations, I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again.
Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast
defiled my sanctuary with all thy
detestable things, and with all
thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye
spare, neither will I have any
pity.
Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, because you have
defiled My sanctuary with all your
detestable idols and abominations, I Myself will withdraw My favor; I will not look upon you with
pity, nor will I
spare you.
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Smite with
thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say,
Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
This is what the Lord GOD says:
Clap your hands,
stomp your feet, and cry out “
Alas!” because of all the wicked abominations of the house of Israel, who will fall by sword and famine and plague.
Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will
recompense upon thee all
thine abominations.
The end is now upon you, and I will
unleash My anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
And mine eye shall not
spare thee, neither will I have
pity: but I will
recompense thy ways upon thee, and
thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will not look on you with
pity, nor will I
spare you, but I will
punish you for your ways and for the abominations among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
Now will I shortly pour out my
fury upon thee, and
accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will
recompense thee for all
thine abominations.
Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you and
vent My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
And mine eye shall not
spare, neither will I have
pity: I will
recompense thee according to thy ways and
thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.
I will not look on you with
pity, nor will I
spare you, but I will
punish you for your ways and for the abominations among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “now lift up your eyes to the north.” So I lifted up my eyes to the north, and in the entrance north of the Altar Gate I saw this
idol of jealousy.
And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the
cherub, and fill
thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and
scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.
And the LORD said to the man clothed in linen, “Go inside the
wheelwork beneath the
cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the
cherubim and
scatter them over the city.” And as I watched, he went in.
And when I passed by thee, and saw thee
polluted in
thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live;
yea, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live.
Then I passed by and saw you
wallowing in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, ‘Live!’ There I said to you, ‘Live!’
I have caused thee to multiply as the
bud of the field, and thou hast increased and
waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and
thine hair is grown, whereas thou
wast naked and bare.
I made you
thrive like a plant of the field. You grew up and
matured and became very beautiful. Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, but you were naked and bare.
And I put a
jewel on thy
forehead, and earrings in
thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon
thine head.
I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head.
But thou
didst trust in
thine own beauty, and playedst the
harlot because of thy
renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
But because of your fame, you trusted in your beauty and played the
harlot. You
lavished your favors on
everyone who passed by, and your beauty was theirs for the asking.
And in all
thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou
wast naked and bare, and
wast polluted in thy blood.
And in all your abominations and acts of
prostitution, you did not remember the days of your youth when you were naked and bare,
wallowing in your own blood.
Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished
thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that
hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are
ashamed of thy
lewd way.
Therefore I stretched out My hand against you and reduced your portion. I gave you over to the desire of those who
hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were
ashamed of your
lewd conduct.
How weak is
thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an
imperious whorish woman;
How weak-willed is your heart, declares the Lord GOD, while you do all these things, the acts of a shameless
prostitute!
In that thou buildest
thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest
thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an
harlot, in that thou scornest
hire;
But when you built your mounds at the head of every street and made your lofty shrines in every public square, you were not even like a
prostitute, because you
scorned payment.
And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will level your mounds and
tear down your lofty shrines. They will strip off your clothes, take your fine
jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.
And they shall burn
thine houses with fire, and
execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the
harlot, and thou also shalt give no
hire any more.
Then they will burn down your houses and
execute judgment against you in the sight of many women. I will put an end to your
prostitution, and you will never again pay your lovers.
Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast
fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will
recompense thy way upon
thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this
lewdness above all
thine abominations.
Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but
enraged Me with all these things, I will surely bring your deeds down upon your own head, declares the Lord GOD. Have you not committed this
lewdness on top of all your other abominations?
And
thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is
Sodom and her daughters.
Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters to your north; and your younger sister was
Sodom, who lived with her daughters to your south.
Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Furthermore, Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have multiplied your abominations beyond theirs, and all the abominations you have committed have made your sisters appear righteous.
Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear
thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more
abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
So now you must bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your sisters. For they appear more righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear righteous.
That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
So you will bear your disgrace and be
ashamed of all you did to comfort them.
Thou hast borne thy
lewdness and
thine abominations, saith the LORD.
You will bear the consequences of your
lewdness and your abominations, declares the LORD.
Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be
ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters,
thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
Then you will remember your ways and be
ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of My covenant with you.
Thou therefore, son of man,
prophesy, and
smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.
‘So then, son of man,
prophesy and strike your hands together. Let the sword strike two times, even three. It is a sword that slays, a sword of great slaughter closing in on every side!
Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast
defiled thyself in
thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a
mocking to all countries.
you are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are
defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a
mockery to all the lands.
Can
thine heart
endure, or can
thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it.
Will your courage
endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will act.
And thou shalt take
thine inheritance in
thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
And when you have
defiled yourself in the eyes of the nations, then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal
furiously with thee: they shall take away thy nose and
thine ears; and thy
remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy residue shall be
devoured by the fire.
And I will set My
jealous rage against you, and they will deal with you in
fury. They will cut off your noses and ears, and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and your
remnant will be consumed by fire.
Thus will I make thy
lewdness to cease from thee, and thy
whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up
thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.
So I will put an end to your
indecency and
prostitution, which began in the land of Egypt, and you will not lift your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.’
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
Thou shalt even drink it and
suck it out, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and
pluck off
thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
You will drink it and
drain it; you will
dash it to pieces, and
tear your breasts. For I have spoken,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of
thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou
mourn nor
weep, neither shall thy tears run down.
“Son of man, behold, I am about to take away the desire of your eyes with a fatal blow. But you must not
mourn or
weep or let your tears flow.
Forbear to cry, make no
mourning for the dead, bind the
tire of
thine head upon thee, and put on thy
shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
Groan quietly; do not
mourn for the dead. Put on your
turban and
strap your
sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners.”
That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
on that day a
fugitive will come and tell you the news.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast
clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and
rejoiced in heart with all thy
despite against the land of Israel;
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you
clapped your hands and stomped your feet and
rejoiced over the land of Israel with a heart full of contempt,
Of the oaks of
Bashan have they made
thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy
benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of
Chittim.
Of oaks from
Bashan they made your oars; of wood from the coasts of
Cyprus they made your deck, inlaid with ivory.
They of Persia and of Lud and of
Phut were in
thine army, thy men of war: they
hanged the shield and
helmet in thee; they set forth thy
comeliness.
Men of Persia,
Lydia, and Put served as warriors in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls; they gave you
splendor.
The men of Arvad with
thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they
hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.
Men of Arvad and Helech
manned your walls all around, and the men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your walls; they perfected your beauty.
The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the
merchandise of
thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and
ebony.
The men of Dedan were your clients; many coastlands were your market; they paid you with ivory tusks and
ebony.
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.’ Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.
With thy wisdom and with
thine understanding thou hast
gotten thee riches, and hast
gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
By your wisdom and understanding you have gained your wealth and
amassed gold and silver for your
treasuries.
