And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see
this great sight, why the
bush is not burnt.
So Moses thought, “I must go over and see
this marvelous sight. Why is the
bush not burning up?”
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses
hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Then He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” At
this, Moses
hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and
this shall be a
token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon
this mountain.
“I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you:
this is my name for ever, and
this is my
memorial unto all generations.
God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
This is My name
forever, and
this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:
And I will grant this people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that when you leave, you will not go away empty-handed.
That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
“This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
And thou shalt take
this rod in thine hand,
wherewith thou shalt do signs.
But take this staff in your hand so you can perform signs with it.”
And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my
firstborn:
Then tell Pharaoh that
this is what the LORD says: ‘Israel is My
firstborn son,
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
After that, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’”
And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
So the taskmasters and
foremen of the people went out and said to them, “
This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I am no longer giving you straw.
Then the officers of the children of Israel came and
cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
So the
Israelite foremen went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why are you treating your servants
this way?
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil
entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?
So Moses returned to the LORD and asked, “Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why You sent me?
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and You have not delivered Your people in any way.”
And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they
hearkened not unto Moses for
anguish of spirit, and for cruel
bondage.
Moses relayed
this message to the Israelites, but on account of their broken spirit and cruel
bondage, they did not
listen to him.
These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
Thus saith the LORD, In
this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will
smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the staff in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will turn to blood.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
Instead, Pharaoh turned around, went into his palace, and did not take any of this to heart.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and
smote the dust of the earth, and it became
lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became
lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
This they did, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, gnats came upon man and beast. All the dust of the earth turned into gnats throughout the land of Egypt.
Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh,
This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
“
This is the finger of God,” the magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, and when Pharaoh goes out to the water, stand before him and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And I will
sever in that day the land of
Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of
flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of
Goshen, where My people live; no swarms of
flies will be found there. In
this way you will know that I, the LORD, am in the land.
And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to
morrow shall
this sign be.
I will make a distinction between My people and your people.
This sign will take place
tomorrow.’”
And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within this land.”
And Pharaoh
hardened his heart at
this time also, neither would he let the people go.
But Pharaoh
hardened his heart
this time as well, and he would not let the people go.
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To
morrow the LORD shall do
this thing in the land.
The LORD set a time, saying, “
Tomorrow the LORD will do
this in the land.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, stand before Pharaoh, and tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.
For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may
smite thee and thy people with
pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
For by
this time I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a plague to
wipe you off the earth.
And in very deed for
this cause have I raised thee up, for to
shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power to you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
Behold, to
morrow about
this time I will cause it to rain a very
grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Behold, at
this time
tomorrow I will rain down the worst
hail that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded until now.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have
sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “
This time I have
sinned,” he said. “The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long
wilt thou refuse to humble
thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “
This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble
yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.
They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall
this man be a
snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will
this man be a
snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet
realize that Egypt is in ruins?”
Now therefore
forgive, I pray thee, my sin only
this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me
this death only.
Now please
forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove
this death from me.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About
midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
So Moses declared, “
This is what the LORD says: ‘About
midnight I will go throughout Egypt,
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
“This month is the beginning of months for you; it shall be the first month of your year.
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man must select a lamb for his family, one per household.
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins
girded, your
shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in
haste: it is the LORD’S
passover.
This is how you are to eat it: You must be fully dressed for travel, with your
sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. You are to eat in
haste; it is the LORD’s
Passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt
this night, and will
smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the LORD.
On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every
firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will
execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
And
this day shall be unto you for a
memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an
ordinance for ever.
And
this day will be a
memorial for you, and you are to
celebrate it as a feast to the LORD, as a permanent statute for the generations to come.
And ye shall observe the feast of
unleavened bread; for in
this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe
this day in your generations by an
ordinance for ever.
So you are to keep the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, for on
this very day I brought your divisions out of the land of Egypt. You must keep
this day as a permanent statute for the generations to come.
And ye shall observe
this thing for an
ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
And you are to keep this command as a permanent statute for you and your descendants.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as He promised, you are to keep this service.
And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
When your children ask you, ‘What does this service mean to you?’
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they
spoiled the Egyptians.
And the LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that they granted their request. In
this way they
plundered the Egyptians.
It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
Because the LORD kept a
vigil that night to bring them out of the land of Egypt,
this same night is to be a
vigil to the LORD, to be observed by all the Israelites for the generations to come.
And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron,
This is the
ordinance of the
passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “
This is the statute of the
Passover: No foreigner is to eat of it.
Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
Then all the Israelites did this—they did just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
And Moses said unto the people, Remember
this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of
bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from
this place: there shall no
leavened bread be eaten.
So Moses told the people, “Remember
this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the LORD brought you out of it by the strength of His hand. And nothing
leavened shall be eaten.
This day came ye out in the month
Abib.
Today, in the month of
Abib, you are leaving.
And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep
this service in
this month.
And when the LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Amorites,
Hivites, and Jebusites—the land He
swore to your fathers that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you shall keep
this service in
this month.
And thou shalt
shew thy son in that day, saying,
This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
And on that day you are to explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
Thou shalt therefore keep
this ordinance in his season from year to year.
Therefore you shall keep this statute at the appointed time year after year.
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is
this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of
bondage:
In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD
slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man, and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the
matrix, being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast.
This is why I sacrifice to the LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly
sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel
swear a solemn oath when he said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones with you from
this place.”
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So
this is what the Israelites did.
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
Then
sang Moses and the children of Israel
this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Then Moses and the Israelites
sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
“If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by pots of meat and
ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into
this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And Moses said,
This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
And Moses added, “The LORD will give you meat to eat
this evening and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them,
This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an
omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Each one is to gather as much as he needs. You may take an
omer for each person in your tent.’”
And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
So the Israelites did this. Some gathered more, and some less.
And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food—two omers per person—and all the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses.
And he said unto them,
This is that which the LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day, and
seethe that ye will
seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “
This is what the LORD has said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So
bake what you want to
bake, and
boil what you want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.’”
And Moses said,
This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an
omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread
wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
Moses said, “
This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Keep an
omer of
manna for the generations to come, so that they may see the bread I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
And the people
thirsted there for water; and the people
murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is
this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with
thirst?
But the people
thirsted for water there, and they grumbled against Moses: “Why have you brought us out of Egypt—to make us and our children and
livestock die of
thirst?”
And Moses
cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto
this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
Then Moses
cried out to the LORD, “What should I do with these people? A little more and they will stone me!”
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in
Horeb; and thou shalt
smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Behold, I will stand there before you by the rock at
Horeb. And when you strike the rock, water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did
this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in
Rephidim.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write
this for a
memorial in a book, and
rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write
this on a
scroll as a reminder and
recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for He did
this when they treated Israel with
arrogance.”
And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is
this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou
thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning till evening?”
Thou
wilt surely wear away, both thou, and
this people that is with thee: for
this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it
thyself alone.
Surely you and these people with you will wear
yourselves out, because the task is too heavy for you. You cannot handle it alone.
If thou shalt do
this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to
endure, and all
this people shall also go to their place in peace.
If you follow
this advice and God so directs you, then you will be able to
endure, and all these people can go home in peace.”
And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel:
And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “
This is what you are to tell the Israelites: ‘You have seen for
yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven.
Whether he have
gored a son, or have
gored a daughter, according to
this judgment shall it be done unto him.
If the ox gores a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to the same rule.
For all manner of
trespass, whether it be for ox, for
ass, for sheep, for
raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall
condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
In all cases of
illegal possession of an ox, a
donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any lost
item that someone claims, ‘
This is mine,’ both parties shall bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges find guilty must pay back double to his
neighbor.
And Moses took the blood, and
sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
So Moses took the blood,
sprinkled it on the people, and said, “
This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,
This is the offering you are to accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze;
And a
cubit on the one side, and a
cubit on the other side of that which remaineth in the length of the curtains of the tent, it shall
hang over the sides of the tabernacle on
this side and on that side, to cover it.
And the tent curtains will be a
cubit longer on either side, and the excess will
hang over the sides of the tabernacle to cover it.
Two tenons shall there be in one board, set in order one against another: thus shalt thou make for all the boards of the tabernacle.
Two tenons must be connected to each other for each frame. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
In the tabernacle of the congregation without the
vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
In the Tent of Meeting, outside the
veil that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening until morning.
This is to be a permanent statute for the Israelites for the generations to come.
And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a
sardius, a
topaz, and a
carbuncle:
this shall be the first row.
And mount on it a setting of gemstones, four rows of stones: In the first row there shall be a
ruby, a
topaz, and an
emerald;
And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.
Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not
incur guilt and die.
This is to be a permanent statute for Aaron and his descendants.
And
this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to
hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest’s office: Take one young
bullock, and two rams without
blemish,
“Now
this is what you are to do to
consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without
blemish,
And thou shalt
gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the bonnets on them: and the priest’s office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt
consecrate Aaron and his sons.
Wrap the sashes around Aaron and his sons and
tie headbands on them. The priesthood shall be theirs by a permanent statute. In
this way you are to
ordain Aaron and his sons.
Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the
rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of
consecration:
Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, both
kidneys with the fat on them, and the right
thigh (since
this is a ram for
ordination),
