Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I
will put a spirit in him so that he
will hear a
rumor and return to his own land, where I
will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest,
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem
will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction.
Will you then be
spared?
By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my
chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of
Lebanon; and I
will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice
fir trees thereof: and I
will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his
Carmel.
Through your servants you have
taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many
chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of
Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its
cypresses. I have reached its
farthest heights, the densest of its forests.
Because thy
rage against me, and thy
tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore
will I put my hook in thy nose, and my
bridle in thy lips, and I
will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
Because your
rage and
arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I
will put My hook in your nose and My
bit in your mouth; I
will send you back the way you came.’
And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year
sow ye, and
reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
And this
will be a sign to you, O
Hezekiah: This year you
will eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you
will sow and
reap; you
will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root
downward, and bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah
will again take root below and bear fruit above.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a
remnant, and they that escape out of mount
Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
For a
remnant will go forth from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount
Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts
will accomplish this.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He
will not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He
will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
‘I will defend this city and save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you
will not recover.’”
Go, and say to
Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I
will add unto thy days fifteen years.
“Go and tell
Hezekiah that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I
will add fifteen years to your life.
And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.
And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.
And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;
This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised:
Behold, I
will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun
dial of
Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
I
will make the sun’s shadow that falls on the
stairway of
Ahaz go back ten steps.’” So the
sunlight went back the ten steps it had descended.
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a
shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a
weaver my life: he
will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night
wilt thou make an end of me.
My dwelling has been
picked up and removed from me like a
shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a
weaver; He cuts me off from the
loom; from day until night You make an end of me.
I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so
will he break all my bones: from day even to night
wilt thou make an end of me.
I composed myself until the morning. Like a lion He breaks all my bones; from day until night You make an end of me.
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I
will walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
The living, only the living, can
thank You, as I do
today; fathers
will tell their children about Your faithfulness.
The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.
For Isaiah had said, Let them take a
lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaister upon the
boil, and he shall recover.
Now Isaiah had said, “Prepare a
lump of pressed figs and apply it to the
boil, and he
will recover.”
Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
And
Hezekiah had asked, “What
will be the sign that I
will go up to the house of the LORD?”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt
beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
Then said
Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there
will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground
will become smooth, and the
rugged land a plain.
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all humanity together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and His arm establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His
recompense accompanies Him.
To whom then
will ye
liken God? or what likeness
will ye compare unto him?
To whom
will you
liken God? To what image
will you compare Him?
To whom then
will ye
liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
“To whom
will you
liken Me, or who is My equal?” asks the Holy One.
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the
everlasting God, the LORD, the
Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is
weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the
Creator of the ends of the earth. He
will not grow
tired or
weary; His understanding is beyond searching out.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD
will renew their strength; they
will mount up with wings like eagles; they
will run and not grow
weary, they
will walk and not
faint.
So the
carpenter encouraged the
goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that
smote the
anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with
nails, that it should not be moved.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I
will strengthen thee;
yea, I
will help thee;
yea, I
will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I
will strengthen you; I
will surely help you; I
will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be
ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that
strive with thee shall perish.
Behold, all who
rage against you
will be
ashamed and disgraced; those who
contend with you
will be reduced to nothing and
will perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of
nought.
You
will seek them but
will not find them. Those who
wage war against you
will come to nothing.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
For I am the LORD your God, who takes hold of your right hand and tells you: Do not fear, I will help you.
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I
will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Do not fear, O worm of Jacob, O few men of Israel. I
will help you,” declares the LORD. “Your
Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
Behold, I
will make thee a new sharp
threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt
thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as
chaff.
Behold, I
will make you into a
threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You
will thresh the mountains and
crush them, and reduce the hills to
chaff.
Thou shalt
fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the
whirlwind shall
scatter them: and thou shalt
rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
You
will winnow them, and a wind
will carry them away; a
gale will scatter them. But you
will rejoice in the LORD; you
will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
When the poor and
needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for
thirst, I the LORD
will hear them, I the God of Israel
will not
forsake them.
The poor and
needy seek water, but there is none; their tongues are
parched with
thirst. I, the LORD,
will answer them; I, the God of Israel,
will not
forsake them.
I
will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I
will make the wilderness a
pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
I
will open rivers on the barren heights, and fountains in the middle of the valleys. I
will turn the desert into a
pool of water, and the dry land into flowing springs.
I
will plant in the wilderness the
cedar, the
shittah tree, and the
myrtle, and the oil tree; I
will set in the desert the
fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:
I
will plant cedars in the wilderness,
acacias, myrtles, and olive trees. I
will set
cypresses in the desert, elms and
boxwood together,
Let them bring them forth, and
shew us what shall happen: let them
shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
“Let them come and tell us what
will happen. Tell the former things, so that we may
reflect on them and know the outcome. Or
announce to us what is coming.
I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon
morter, and as the
potter treadeth clay.
I have raised up one from the north, and he has come— one from the east who calls on My name. He
will march over rulers as if they were mortar, like a
potter who treads the clay.
The first shall say to
Zion, Behold, behold them: and I
will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good
tidings.
I was the first to tell
Zion: ‘Look, here they are!’ And I gave to Jerusalem a
herald of good news.
Behold my servant, whom I
uphold; mine
elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
“Here is My Servant, whom I
uphold, My Chosen One, in whom My soul delights. I
will put My Spirit on Him, and He
will bring justice to the nations.
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the streets.
A
bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not
quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
He will not grow weak or discouraged before He has established justice on the earth. In His law the islands will put their hope.”
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
“I, the LORD, have called you for a righteous purpose, and I
will take hold of your hand. I
will keep you and
appoint you to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations,
I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory
will I not give to another, neither my praise to
graven images.
I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols.
“I have kept silent from ages past; I have remained quiet and restrained. But now I
will groan like a woman in labor; I
will at once
gasp and
pant.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I
will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I
will turn the rivers into dry land and
drain the marshes.
And I
will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I
will lead them in paths that they have not known: I
will make darkness light before them, and
crooked things straight. These things
will I do unto them, and not
forsake them.
I
will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I
will guide them on unfamiliar paths. I
will turn darkness into light before them and rough places into level ground. These things I
will do for them, and I
will not
forsake them.
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly
ashamed, that trust in
graven images, that say to the
molten images, Ye are our gods.
But those who trust in idols and say to
molten images, ‘You are our gods!’
will be turned back in utter shame.
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he
will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
The LORD was pleased, for the sake of His righteousness, to
magnify His law and make it glorious.
Who among you
will give ear to this? who
will hearken and hear for the time to come?
Who among you
will pay attention to this? Who
will listen and obey
hereafter?
When thou passest through the waters, I
will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.
When you pass through the waters, I
will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they
will not
overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you
will not be
scorched; the flames
will not set you
ablaze.
Since thou
wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore
will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.
Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
I
will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back!’ Bring My sons from
afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come.
Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I
will work, and who shall let it?
Even from
eternity I am He, and none can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”
Thus saith the LORD, your
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
Thus says the LORD your
Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake, I
will send to Babylon and bring them all as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they
rejoice.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
The beast of the field shall honour me, the
dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I provide water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.
This people have I formed for myself; they shall
shew forth my praise.
The people I formed for Myself will declare My praise.
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
I,
yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.
Therefore I have
profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the
curse, and Israel to reproaches.
So I
will disgrace the princes of your sanctuary, and I
will devote Jacob to destruction and Israel to reproach.”
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the
womb, which
will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
This is the word of the LORD, your Maker, who formed you from the
womb and who
will help you: “Do not be afraid, O Jacob My servant,
Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
For I
will pour water upon him that is
thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I
will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
For I
will pour water on the
thirsty land, and currents on the dry ground. I
will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They
will sprout among the grass like
willows by flowing streams.
One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall
subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and
surname himself by the name of Israel.
One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name of Israel.”
Behold, all his fellows shall be
ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be
ashamed together.
Behold, all his companions
will be put to shame, for the
craftsmen themselves are only human. Let them all
assemble and take their stand; they
will all be brought to terror and shame.
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he
will take thereof, and warm himself;
yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread;
yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a
graven image, and falleth down
thereto.
It serves as fuel for man. He takes some of it to warm himself, and he kindles a fire and bakes his bread; he even fashions it into a god and worships it; he makes an
idol and bows down to it.
Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
Remember these things, O Jacob, for you are My servant, O Israel. I have made you, and you are My servant; O Israel, I
will never
forget you.
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
who confirms the message of His servant and fulfills the counsel of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They will be rebuilt, and I will restore their ruins,’
That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
who says to the depths of the sea, ‘Be dry, and I will dry up your currents,’
That saith of Cyrus, He is my
shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
who says of Cyrus, ‘My
shepherd will fulfill all that I desire,’ who says of Jerusalem, ‘She
will be rebuilt,’ and of the temple, ‘Let its foundation be laid.’”
Thus saith the LORD to his
anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have
holden, to
subdue nations before him; and I
will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
This is what the LORD says to Cyrus His
anointed, whose right hand I have
grasped to
subdue nations before him, to disarm kings, to open the doors before him, so that the gates
will not be shut:
I
will go before thee, and make the
crooked places straight: I
will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in
sunder the bars of iron:
“I will go before you and level the mountains; I will break down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
I will give you the treasures of darkness and the riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I
girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God but Me. I
will equip you for battle, though you have not known Me,
I have raised him up in righteousness, and I
will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my
captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will raise up Cyrus in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild My city and set My exiles free, but not for payment or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.”
Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and
merchandise of
Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of
stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make
supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
This is what the LORD says: “The products of Egypt and the
merchandise of
Cush, along with the
Sabeans, men of
stature,
will come over to you and
will be yours; they
will trudge behind you; they
will come over in chains and bow down to you. They
will confess to you: ‘God is indeed with you, and there is no other; there is no other God.’”
They shall be
ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.
They
will all be put to shame and
humiliated; the makers of idols
will depart together in disgrace.
But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an
everlasting salvation: ye shall not be
ashamed nor confounded world without end.
I have
sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every
knee shall bow, every tongue shall
swear.
By Myself I have
sworn; truth has gone out from My mouth, a word that
will not be
revoked: Every
knee will bow before Me, every tongue
will swear allegiance.
Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be
ashamed.
Surely they
will say of Me, ‘In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.’” All who
rage against Him
will come to Him and be put to shame.
In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
In the LORD all descendants of Israel
will be justified and
will exult.
And even to your old age I am he; and even to
hoar hairs
will I carry you: I have made, and I
will bear; even I
will carry, and
will deliver you.
Even to your old age, I
will be the same, and I
will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I
will carry you; I
will sustain you and deliver you.
To whom
will ye
liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?
To whom
will you
liken Me or count Me equal? To whom
will you compare Me, that we should be alike?
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
I declare the end from the beginning, and ancient times from what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose
will stand, and all My good pleasure I
will accomplish.’
Calling a
ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country:
yea, I have spoken it, I
will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I
will also do it.
I
summon a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far-off land. Truly I have spoken, and truly I
will bring it to pass. I have
planned it, and I
will surely do it.
I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not
tarry: and I
will place salvation in
Zion for Israel my glory.
I am bringing My righteousness near; it is not far away, and My salvation
will not be delayed. I
will grant salvation to
Zion and
adorn Israel with My
splendor.
Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
“Go down and sit in the dust, O Virgin Daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O Daughter of
Chaldea! For you
will no longer be called tender or delicate.
