And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for
shepherds, and folds for flocks.
So the
seacoast will become a land of pastures,
with wells for
shepherds and folds for sheep.
Her princes are
roaring lions; her judges are evening
wolves, leaving nothing for the morning.
The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning
doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
The LORD
within her is righteous; He does no wrong. He applies His justice morning by morning; He does not fail at
dawn, yet the unjust know no shame.
I have cut off the nations: their towers are
desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.
“I have cut off the nations; their corner towers are destroyed. I have made their streets deserted with no one to pass through. Their cities are laid waste, with no man, no inhabitant.
Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may
assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine
indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be
devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Therefore wait for Me,” declares the LORD, “until the day I rise to
testify. For My decision is to gather nations, to
assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them My
indignation— all My burning anger. For all the earth will be consumed by the fire of My jealousy.
For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.
For then I will restore pure lips to the peoples, that all may call upon the name of the LORD and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.
I will also leave in the midst of thee an
afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.
But I will leave
within you a
meek and humble people, and they will trust in the name of the LORD.
The
remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
The
remnant of Israel will no longer do wrong or speak lies, nor will a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouths. But they will feed and lie down,
with no one to make them
tremble.”
Sing, O daughter of
Zion;
shout, O Israel; be
glad and
rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will
rejoice over thee
with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee
with singing.
The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will
rejoice over you
with gladness; He will quiet you
with His love; He will
rejoice over you
with singing.”
Behold, at that time I will
undo all that
afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.
Behold, at that time, I will deal
with all who
afflict you. I will save the
lame and gather the scattered; and I will
appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth.
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled
with drink; ye
clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a
bag with holes.
You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but never have enough. You drink but never have your fill. You put on clothes but never get warm. You
earn wages to put into a
bag pierced through.”
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I
blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is
busy with his own house.
Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from
dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
Therefore, on account of you the heavens have
withheld their
dew and the earth has
withheld its crops.
Then
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest,
with all the
remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of
Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
Then
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, as well as all the
remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of the prophet
Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. So the people feared the LORD.
Then spake
Haggai the LORD’S
messenger in the LORD’S message unto the people, saying, I am
with you, saith the LORD.
Haggai, the
messenger of the LORD, delivered the message of the LORD to the people: “I am
with you,” declares the LORD.
Yet now be strong, O
Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am
with you, saith the LORD of hosts:
But now be strong, O
Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work! For I am
with you, declares the LORD of Hosts.
According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt. And My Spirit remains among you; do not be afraid.”
And I will
shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house
with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will
shake all the nations, and they will come
with all their treasures, and I will fill this house
with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.
If one bear holy flesh in the
skirt of his garment, and
with his
skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread,
stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does that
item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
Then said
Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
Then answered
Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
Then
Haggai replied, “So it is
with this people and this nation before Me, declares the LORD, and so it is
with every work of their hands; whatever they offer there is
defiled.
I
smote you
with blasting and
with mildew and
with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.
I struck you—all the work of your hands—
with blight,
mildew, and
hail, but you did not turn to Me, declares the LORD.
The LORD hath been
sore displeased
with your fathers.
“The LORD was very
angry with your fathers.
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked
with me said unto me, I will
shew thee what these be.
“What are these, my lord?” I asked. And the angel who was speaking with me replied, “I will show you what they are.”
Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long
wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had
indignation these
threescore and ten years?
Then the angel of the LORD said, “How long, O LORD of Hosts, will You
withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah,
with which You have been
angry these seventy years?”
And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
So the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who was speaking with me.
So the angel that communed
with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am
jealous for Jerusalem and for
Zion with a great jealousy.
Then the angel who was speaking
with me said, “
Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I am very
jealous for Jerusalem and
Zion,
And I am very
sore displeased
with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the
affliction.
but I am fiercely
angry with the nations that are at ease. For I was a little
angry, but they have added to the
calamity.’
Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem
with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there My house will be rebuilt, declares the LORD of Hosts, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.’
Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort
Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
Proclaim further that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘My cities will again overflow
with prosperity; the LORD will again comfort
Zion and choose Jerusalem.’”
And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he told me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,
Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel came out to meet him
And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
and said to him, “Run and tell that young man: ‘Jerusalem will be a city
without walls because of the multitude of men and
livestock within it.
For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
For I will be a wall of fire around it, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within it.’”
Deliver
thyself, O
Zion, that dwellest
with the daughter of Babylon.
“Get up, O
Zion! Escape, you who dwell
with the Daughter of Babylon!”
And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and
Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
Then the angel showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD,
with Satan standing at his right hand to
accuse him.
Now Joshua was clothed
with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
Now Joshua was dressed in
filthy garments as he stood before the angel.
And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the
filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will
clothe thee
with change of
raiment.
So the angel said to those standing before him, “Take off his
filthy clothes!” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have removed your iniquity, and I will
clothe you
with splendid robes.”
And I said, Let them set a fair
mitre upon his head. So they set a fair
mitre upon his head, and clothed him
with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
Then I said, “Let them put a clean
turban on his head.” So a clean
turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him, as the angel of the LORD stood by.
And the angel that talked
with me came again, and
waked me, as a man that is
wakened out of his sleep,
Then the angel who was speaking
with me returned and
woke me, as a man is
awakened from his sleep.
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a
candlestick all of gold,
with a
bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps
thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
“What do you see?” he asked. “I see a solid gold lampstand,” I replied, “
with a
bowl at the top and seven lamps on it,
with seven spouts to the lamps.
So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
“What are these, my lord?” I asked the angel who was speaking with me.
Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
“Do you not know what they are?” replied the angel. “No, my lord,” I answered.
Who art thou, O great mountain? before
Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the
headstone thereof
with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
What are you, O great mountain? Before
Zerubbabel you will become a plain. Then he will bring forth the
capstone accompanied by shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’”
For who hath
despised the day of small things? for they shall
rejoice, and shall see the
plummet in the hand of
Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and
fro through the whole earth.
For who has
despised the day of small things? But these seven eyes of the LORD, which
scan the whole earth, will
rejoice when they see the
plumb line in the hand of
Zerubbabel.”
I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the
thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall
consume it
with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
I will send it out, declares the LORD of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the
thief and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain inside his house and destroy it, down to its timbers and stones.”
Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.”
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a
stork: and they lifted up the
ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw two women approaching,
with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a
stork, and they lifted up the
basket between heaven and earth.
Then said I to the angel that talked
with me,
Whither do these bear the
ephah?
“Where are they taking the
basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking
with me.
Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”
The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the
grisled go forth toward the south country.
The one
with the black horses is going toward the land of the north, the one
with the white horses toward the west, and the one
with the
dappled horses toward the south.”
When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,
Now the people of
Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech, along
with their men, to
plead before the LORD
But I scattered them
with a
whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was
desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land
desolate.
But I scattered them
with a
whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known, and the land was left
desolate behind them so that no one could come or go. Thus they turned the pleasant land into a
desolation.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was
jealous for
Zion with great jealousy, and I was
jealous for her
with great
fury.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Old men and old women will again sit along the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of great age.
And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.
And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the
skirt of him that is a
Jew, saying, We will go
with you: for we have heard that God is
with you.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue will
tightly grasp the
robe of a
Jew, saying, ‘Let us go
with you, for we have heard that God is
with you.’”
Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will
smite her power in the sea; and she shall be
devoured with fire.
Behold, the Lord will
impoverish her and cast her wealth into the sea, and she will be consumed by fire.
Ashkelon shall see it, and fear;
Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and
Ekron; for her expectation shall be
ashamed; and the king shall perish from
Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
Ashkelon will see and fear;
Gaza will
writhe in
agony, as will
Ekron, for her hope will
wither. There will cease to be a king in
Gaza, and Ashkelon will be uninhabited.
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen
with mine eyes.
But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch
with My own eyes.
When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow
with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O
Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of a mighty man.
For I will bend Judah as My bow and fit it
with Ephraim. I will
rouse your sons, O
Zion, against the sons of Greece. I will make you like the sword of a mighty man.
And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his
arrow shall go forth as the
lightning: and the LORD GOD shall blow the
trumpet, and shall go
with whirlwinds of the south.
Then the LORD will appear over them, and His
arrow will go forth like
lightning. The Lord GOD will sound the ram’s horn and advance in the whirlwinds of the south.
The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall
devour, and
subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like
bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
The LORD of Hosts will shield them. They will destroy and
conquer with slingstones; they will drink and
roar as
with wine. And they will be filled like
sprinkling bowls,
drenched like the corners of the altar.
And they shall be as mighty men, which
tread down their enemies in the
mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is
with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.
They will be like mighty men in battle,
trampling the enemy in the
mire of the streets. They will fight because the LORD is
with them, and they will put the
horsemen to shame.
And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall
rejoice as through wine:
yea, their children shall see it, and be
glad; their heart shall
rejoice in the LORD.
Ephraim will be like a mighty man, and their hearts will be
glad as
with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will
rejoice in the LORD.
And I will
sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live
with their children, and turn again.
Though I
sow them among the nations, they will remember Me in distant lands; they and their children will live and return.
And he shall pass through the sea
with affliction, and shall
smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the
sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
They will pass through the sea of distress and strike the waves of the sea; all the depths of the Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be brought down, and the
scepter of Egypt will depart.
Whose possessors
slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own
shepherds pity them not.
whose buyers slaughter them
without remorse. Those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the LORD, for I am rich!’ Even their own
shepherds have no
compassion on them.
And in one month I dismissed three
shepherds. My soul grew impatient
with the flock, and their souls also
detested me.
And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it
asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made
with all the people.
Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two,
revoking the covenant I had made
with all the nations.
Woe to the
idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly
darkened.
Woe to the worthless
shepherd, who deserts the flock! May a sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely
withered and his right eye utterly blinded!”
The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
This is the burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD, who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth, who forms the spirit of man within him:
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a
burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves
with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
On that day, when all the nations of the earth gather against her, I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who would
heave it away will be severely injured.
In that day, saith the LORD, I will
smite every horse
with astonishment, and his rider
with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will
smite every horse of the people
with blindness.
On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse
with panic, and every rider
with madness. I will keep a watchful eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike
with blindness all the horses of the nations.
And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ he will answer, ‘These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.’
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall
cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half the mountain moving to the north and half to the south.
And ye shall
flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal:
yea, ye shall
flee, like as ye fled from before the
earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints
with thee.
You will
flee by My mountain valley, for it will extend to Azal. You will
flee as you fled from the
earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones
with Him.
But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
It will be a day known only to the LORD, without day or night; but when evening comes, there will be light.
And this shall be the plague
wherewith the LORD will
smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall
consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall
consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall
consume away in their mouth.
And this will be the plague
with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who have
warred against Jerusalem: Their flesh will
rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will
rot in their sockets, and their tongues will
rot in their mouths.
And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague,
wherewith the LORD will
smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter in, then the rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague
with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not go up to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have been
devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be called the Land of Wickedness, and a people
with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be
magnified from the border of Israel.
You will see this
with your own eyes, and you
yourselves will say, ‘The LORD is great—even beyond the borders of Israel.’”
And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the
lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased
with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present the
lame and sick ones, is it not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased
with you or show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
Behold, I will
rebuke your descendants, and I will spread dung on your faces, the waste from your feasts, and you will be carried off
with it.
And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will know that I have sent you this commandment so that My covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD of Hosts.
My covenant was
with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear
wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
“My covenant
with him was one of life and peace, which I gave to him; it called for reverence, and he
revered Me and stood in
awe of My name.
The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked
with me in peace and
equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal
treacherously every man against his brother, by
profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God
create us? Why then do we break faith
with one another so as to
profane the covenant of our fathers?
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD
with tears,
with weeping, and
with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it
with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD
with tears,
with weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit, and let none deal
treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith
with the wife of your youth.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence
with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take
heed to your spirit, that ye deal not
treacherously.
“For I
hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment
with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard
yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.
Ye have
wearied the LORD
with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we
wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?
You have
wearied the LORD
with your words; yet you ask, “How have we
wearied Him?” By saying, “All who do evil are good in the sight of the LORD, and in them He delights,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing
without measure.
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD
hearkened, and heard it, and a book of
remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
