And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
“You will indeed drink My cup,” Jesus said. “But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to grant. These seats belong to those for whom My Father has prepared them.”
And when the ten heard it, they were moved
with indignation against the two brethren.

compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and at once they received their sight and followed Him.
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and
straightway ye shall find an
ass tied, and a
colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

ahead of you, and at once you will find a
donkey tied there,
with her
colt beside her.
Untie them and bring them to Me.
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing
thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee
henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree
withered away.
Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree
withered.
And when the disciples saw it, they
marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree
withered away!
When the disciples saw this, they
marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree
wither so quickly?”

deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’

highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the
wedding was furnished
with guests.

everyone they could find, both evil and good, and the
wedding hall was filled
with guests.

And they sent out unto him their disciples
with the
Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

with the
Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance
with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses declared that if a man dies without having children, his brother is to marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died without having children. So he left his wife to his brother.
Then one of them, which was a
lawyer, asked him a question,
tempting him, and saying,
One of them, an
expert in the law, tested Him
with a question:
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
For they bind heavy burdens and
grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them
with one of their fingers.
They
tie up heavy,
burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
Woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay
tithe of
mint and
anise and
cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay
tithes of
mint,
dill, and
cumin. But you have disregarded the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter,
without neglecting the former.
Thou blind
Pharisee,
cleanse first that which is
within the cup and
platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Blind
Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and
dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.
Woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited
sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are
within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like
whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of impurity.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but
within ye are full of
hypocrisy and iniquity.
In the same way, on the outside you appear to be righteous, but on the inside you are full of
hypocrisy and wickedness.
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners
with them in
shedding the blood of the prophets.’
And
woe unto them that are
with child, and to them that give
suck in those days!
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth
mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven
with power and great glory.
At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will
mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,
with power and great glory.
And he shall send his angels
with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they shall gather together his
elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
And He will send out His angels
with a loud
trumpet call, and they will gather His
elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
And shall begin to
smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink
with the
drunken;
And he begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.
Then he will cut him to pieces and
assign him a place
with the hypocrites, where there will be
weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
They that were
foolish took their lamps, and took no oil
with them:
The
foolish ones took their lamps but did not take along any extra oil.
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
But the wise ones took oil in flasks along with their lamps.
And while they went to
buy, the
bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in
with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

buy it, the
bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in
with him to the
wedding banquet, and the door was shut.
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
The servant who had received the five talents went at once and put them to work and gained five more.
And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
Likewise, the one with the two talents gained two more.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
After a long time the master of those servants returned to settle accounts with them.
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
The servant who had received the five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
The servant who had received the two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own
with usury.
Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest.

alabaster box of very precious
ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the
passover at thy house
with my disciples.
He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the
Passover with My disciples at your house.’”
Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
When evening came, Jesus was
reclining with the twelve disciples.
And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand
with me in the
dish, the same shall
betray me.
Jesus answered, “The one who has
dipped his hand into the
bowl with Me will
betray Me.
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it
anew with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
Then cometh Jesus
with them unto a place called
Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray
yonder.
At that time Jesus went
with His disciples to a place called
Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death:
tarry ye here, and watch
with me.
Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them
asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch
with me one hour?
Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter.
And while he yet spake, lo,
Judas, one of the twelve, came, and
with him a great multitude
with swords and
staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
While Jesus was still speaking,
Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed
with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Now the
betrayer had arranged a signal
with them: “The One I
kiss is the man; arrest Him.”
And, behold, one of them which were
with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and
smote off his ear.
At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a
thief with swords and
staves for to take me? I sat daily
with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw? Every day I sat teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest Me.
But Peter followed him
afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat
with the servants, to see the end.
But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the
courtyard of the high priest. And he went in and sat down
with the guards to see the outcome.
Then did they
spit in his face, and
buffeted him; and others
smote him
with the palms of their hands,
Then they
spit in His face and struck Him. Others
slapped Him
Now Peter sat
without in the palace: and a
damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also
wast with Jesus of
Galilee.
Meanwhile, Peter was sitting out in the
courtyard, and a servant
girl came up to him. “You also were
with Jesus the
Galilean,” she said.
And when he was gone out into the
porch, another
maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also
with Jesus of
Nazareth.
When Peter had gone out to the
gateway, another servant
girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was
with Jesus of
Nazareth.”
And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man!”
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
When
Judas, who had
betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled
with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
And they took counsel, and bought
with them the
potter’s field, to
bury strangers in.
After
conferring together, they used the money to
buy the
potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
While
Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Have nothing to do
with that innocent man, for I have suffered
terribly in a dream
today because of Him.”
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then
with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be
crucified.
“What then should I do
with Jesus who is called Christ?”
Pilate asked. They all answered, “
Crucify Him!”
They gave him
vinegar to drink mingled
with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
Then were there two
thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
Two robbers were
crucified with Him, one on His right hand and the other on His left.
Likewise also the chief priests
mocking him,
with the
scribes and elders, said,
In the same way, the chief priests,
scribes, and elders
mocked Him, saying,
And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me?
About the ninth hour Jesus
cried out in a loud voice, “
Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You
forsaken Me?”
And
straightway one of them ran, and took a
spunge, and filled it
with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
One of them quickly ran and brought a
sponge. He filled it
with sour wine, put it on a reed, and held it up for Jesus to drink.
Jesus, when he had
cried again
with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
When Jesus had
cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit.
Now when the
centurion, and they that were
with him, watching Jesus, saw the
earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
When the
centurion and those
with him who were guarding Jesus saw the
earthquake and all that had happened, they were
terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
And they departed quickly from the
sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
So they
hurried away from the tomb in fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples.
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
And after the chief priests had met with the elders and formed a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am
with you
alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen.
and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And John was clothed
with camel’s hair, and
with a
girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
John was clothed in
camel’s hair,
with a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
I indeed have
baptized you
with water: but he shall
baptize you
with the Holy Ghost.
I
baptize you
with water, but He will
baptize you
with the Holy Spirit.”
And he was there in the wilderness forty days,
tempted of
Satan; and was
with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
and He was there for forty days, being
tempted by
Satan. He was
with the wild animals, and the angels ministered to Him.
And
straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship
with the
hired servants, and went after him.
Immediately Jesus called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat
with the
hired men and followed Him.
And there was in their
synagogue a man
with an unclean spirit; and he
cried out,
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do
with thee, thou Jesus of
Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
“What do You want
with us, Jesus of
Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
And when the unclean spirit had
torn him, and
cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out
with a loud
shriek.
And they were all
amazed,
insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for
with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
All the people were
amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching
with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him!”
And
forthwith, when they were come out of the
synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew,
with James and John.
As soon as Jesus and His companions had left the
synagogue, they went
with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed
with a fever, and they
promptly told Jesus about her.
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
That evening, after
sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were sick and
demon-possessed,
And he
healed many that were sick of
divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
And He
healed many who were ill
with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
Simon and his companions went to look for Him,
And Jesus, moved
with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
Moved
with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!”
And he straitly charged him, and
forthwith sent him away;
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was
without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
But the man went out and openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.
And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
At once Jesus knew in His spirit that they were thinking this way within themselves. “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” He asked.
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
While Jesus was
dining at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating
with Him and His disciples—for there were many who followed Him.
And when the
scribes and
Pharisees saw him eat
with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh
with publicans and sinners?
When the
scribes who were
Pharisees saw Jesus eating
with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat
with tax collectors and sinners?”
And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the
bridechamber fast, while the
bridegroom is
with them? as long as they have the
bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Jesus replied, “How can the guests of the
bridegroom fast while He is
with them? As long as He is
with them, they cannot fast.
And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an
hungred, he, and they that were
with him?
Jesus replied, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were
hungry and in need?
How he went into the house of God in the days of
Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the
shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were
with him?
During the high priesthood of
Abiathar, he entered the house of God and
ate the consecrated bread, which was lawful only for the priests. And he gave some to his companions as well.”
And he entered again into the
synagogue; and there was a man there which had a
withered hand.
And he saith unto the man which had the
withered hand, Stand forth.
Then Jesus said to the man
with the
withered hand, “Stand up among us.”
