And they shall
wander from sea to sea,
and from the north even to the east, they shall run to
and fro to seek the word of the LORD,
and shall not find it.
People will
stagger from sea to sea
and roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
In that day shall the fair virgins
and young men
faint for
thirst.
In that day the lovely young women— the young men as well— will
faint from
thirst.
They that
swear by the sin of Samaria,
and say, Thy god, O
Dan, liveth;
and, The manner of Beer-
sheba liveth; even they shall fall,
and never rise up again.
Those who
swear by the guilt of Samaria
and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O
Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way of
Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
I saw the LORD standing upon the altar:
and he said,
Smite the
lintel of the door, that the posts may
shake:
and cut them in the head, all of them;
and I will
slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not
flee away,
and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
I saw the Lord standing beside the altar,
and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds
shake.
Topple them on the heads of all the people,
and I will kill the rest with the sword. None of those who
flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape.
Though they
dig into
hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they
climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:
Though they
dig down to
Sheol, from there My hand will take them;
and though they
climb up to heaven, from there I will pull them down.
And though they hide themselves in the top of
Carmel, I will search
and take them out thence;
and though they be
hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent,
and he shall
bite them:
Though they hide themselves
atop Carmel, there I will
track them
and seize them;
and though they hide from Me at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent to
bite them.
And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword,
and it shall
slay them:
and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil,
and not for good.
Though they are driven by their enemies into captivity, there I will command the sword to
slay them. I will fix My eyes upon them for
harm and not for good.”
And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land,
and it shall
melt,
and all that dwell therein shall
mourn:
and it shall rise up wholly like a flood;
and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth
and it melts,
and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven,
and hath founded his
troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea,
and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.
He builds His upper rooms in the heavens
and founds His
vault upon the earth. He
summons the waters of the sea
and pours them over the face of the earth. The LORD is His name.
Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
“Are you not like the Cushites to Me, O children of Israel?” declares the LORD. “Did I not bring Israel up from the land of Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Arameans from Kir?
Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth. Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
For, lo, I will command,
and I will
sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is
sifted in a
sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.
“For surely I will give the command,
and I will
shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is
sifted in a
sieve; but not a
pebble will reach the ground.
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
“In that day I will restore the fallen tent of David. I will repair its gaps, restore its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old,
That they may possess the
remnant of
Edom,
and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.
that they may possess the
remnant of
Edom and all the nations that bear My name,” declares the LORD, who will do this.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the
plowman shall overtake the
reaper,
and the
treader of grapes him that soweth seed;
and the mountains shall drop sweet wine,
and all the hills shall
melt.
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the
plowman will overtake the
reaper and the
treader of grapes, the
sower of seed. The mountains will
drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will flow.
And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
I will restore My people Israel from captivity; they will rebuild and inhabit the ruined cities. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
I will firmly plant them in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land that I have given them,” says the LORD your God.
The vision of
Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD,
and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye,
and let us rise up against her in battle.
This is the vision of
Obadiah: This is what the Lord GOD says about
Edom— We have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent among the nations to say, “Rise up,
and let us go to battle against her!”—
Though thou
exalt thyself as the eagle,
and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
Though you
soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
All the men of thy
confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have
deceived thee,
and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.
All the men allied with you will drive you to the border; the men at peace with you will
deceive and overpower you. Those who eat your bread will set a
trap for you without your awareness of it.
Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of
Edom,
and understanding out of the mount of
Esau?
In that day, declares the LORD, will I not destroy the wise men of
Edom and the men of understanding in the mountains of
Esau?
And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of
Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
Then your mighty men, O Teman, will be
terrified, so that
everyone in the mountains of
Esau will be cut down in the slaughter.
For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame
and cut off
forever.
In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away
captive his forces,
and foreigners entered into his gates,
and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou
wast as one of them.
On the day you stood
aloof while strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gate
and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were just like one of them.
For as ye have
drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually,
yea, they shall drink,
and they shall
swallow down,
and they shall be as though they had not been.
For as you
drank on My holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. They will drink
and gulp it down; they will be as if they had never existed.
But upon mount
Zion shall be
deliverance,
and there shall be
holiness;
and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
But on Mount
Zion there will be
deliverance,
and it will be holy,
and the house of Jacob will reclaim their possession.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire,
and the house of Joseph a flame,
and the house of
Esau for
stubble,
and they shall
kindle in them,
and devour them;
and there shall not be any remaining of the house of
Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
Then the house of Jacob will be a
blazing fire,
and the house of Joseph a burning flame; but the house of
Esau will be
stubble— Jacob will set it
ablaze and consume it. Therefore no
survivor will remain from the house of
Esau.” For the LORD has spoken.
And they of the south shall possess the mount of
Esau;
and they of the plain the Philistines:
and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim,
and the fields of Samaria:
and Benjamin shall possess
Gilead.
Those from the Negev will possess the mountains of
Esau; those from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim
and Samaria,
and Benjamin will possess
Gilead.
And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the
Canaanites, even unto Zarephath;
and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
And the exiles of this host of the Israelites will possess the land of the
Canaanites as far as Zarephath;
and the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the cities of the Negev.
And saviours shall come up on mount
Zion to judge the mount of
Esau;
and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
The deliverers will
ascend Mount
Zion to rule over the mountains of
Esau.
And the kingdom will belong to the LORD.
Arise, go to
Nineveh, that great city,
and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
“Get up! Go to the great city of
Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.”
But
Jonah rose up to
flee unto
Tarshish from the presence of the LORD,
and went down to
Joppa;
and he found a ship going to
Tarshish: so he paid the
fare thereof,
and went down into it, to go with them unto
Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea,
and there was a mighty
tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
Then the LORD
hurled a great wind upon the sea,
and such a violent storm arose that the ship was in danger of breaking apart.
Then the mariners were afraid,
and cried every man unto his god,
and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to
lighten it of them. But
Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship;
and he lay,
and was fast
asleep.
The sailors were afraid,
and each
cried out to his own god.
And they threw the ship’s
cargo into the sea to
lighten the load. But
Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel, where he lay down
and fell into a deep sleep.
So the
shipmaster came to him,
and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
The captain approached him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call upon your God. Perhaps this God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”
And they said every one to his fellow, Come,
and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots,
and the lot fell upon
Jonah.
“Come!” said the sailors to one another. “Let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this
calamity that is upon us.” So they cast lots,
and the lot fell on
Jonah.
Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
“Tell us now,” they demanded, “who is to
blame for this
calamity that is upon us? What is your occupation,
and where have you come from? What is your country,
and who are your people?”
And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
“I am a Hebrew,” replied
Jonah. “I worship the LORD, the God of the heavens, who made the sea
and the dry land.”
Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
Then the men were even more afraid
and said to him, “What have you done?” The men knew that he was
fleeing from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought,
and was
tempestuous.
Now the sea was growing worse
and worse, so they said to
Jonah, “What must we do to you to calm this sea for us?”
And he said unto them, Take me up,
and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great
tempest is upon you.
“
Pick me up,” he answered, “
and cast me into the sea, so it may quiet down for you. For I know that I am to
blame for this violent storm that has come upon you.”
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought,
and was
tempestuous against them.
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea was
raging against them more
and more.
Wherefore they
cried unto the LORD,
and said, We
beseech thee, O LORD, we
beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life,
and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
So they
cried out to the LORD: “Please, O LORD, do not let us perish on account of this man’s life! Do not charge us with innocent blood! For You, O LORD, have done as You pleased.”
So they took up
Jonah,
and cast him forth into the sea:
and the sea ceased from her
raging.
At this, they
picked up
Jonah and cast him into the sea,
and the
raging sea grew calm.
Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to Him.
Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to
swallow up
Jonah.
And Jonah was in the
belly of the fish three days
and three nights.
Now the LORD had appointed a great fish to
swallow Jonah,
and Jonah spent three days
and three nights in the
belly of the fish.
saying: “In my distress I called to the LORD,
and He answered me. From the
belly of
Sheol I called for help,
and You heard my voice.
For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas,
and the current
swirled about me; all Your breakers
and waves swept over me.
When my soul
fainted within me I remembered the LORD:
and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
As my life was
fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple.
And the LORD spake unto the fish,
and it
vomited out
Jonah upon the dry land.
And the word of the LORD came unto
Jonah the second time, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to
Jonah a second time:
Arise, go unto
Nineveh, that great city,
and preach unto it the preaching that I
bid thee.
“Get up! Go to the great city of
Nineveh and proclaim to it the message that I give you.”
So
Jonah arose,
and went unto
Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now
Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
This time
Jonah got up
and went to
Nineveh, in accordance with the word of the LORD. Now
Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, requiring a three-day journey.
And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey,
and he
cried,
and said, Yet forty days,
and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
On the first day of his journey,
Jonah set out into the city
and proclaimed, “Forty more days
and Nineveh will be overturned!”
So the people of
Nineveh believed God,
and proclaimed a fast,
and put on
sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast
and dressed in
sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
For word came unto the king of
Nineveh,
and he arose from his throne,
and he laid his
robe from him,
and covered him with
sackcloth,
and sat in ashes.
When word reached the king of
Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal
robe, covered himself with
sackcloth,
and sat in ashes.
And he caused it to be proclaimed
and published through
Nineveh by the decree of the king
and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast,
herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Then he issued a
proclamation in
Nineveh: “By the decree of the king
and his nobles: Let no man or beast,
herd or flock, taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink.
But let man
and beast be covered with
sackcloth,
and cry
mightily unto God:
yea, let them turn every one from his evil way,
and from the violence that is in their hands.
Furthermore, let both man
and beast be covered with
sackcloth,
and have
everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways
and from the violence in his hands.
Who can tell if God will turn
and repent,
and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way;
and God
repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them;
and he did it not.
When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the
disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.
But it displeased
Jonah exceedingly,
and he was very
angry.
Jonah, however, was greatly displeased,
and he became
angry.
And he prayed unto the LORD,
and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto
Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a
gracious God,
and merciful, slow to anger,
and of great kindness,
and repentest thee of the evil.
So he prayed to the LORD, saying, “O LORD, is this not what I said while I was still in my own country? This is why I was so quick to
flee toward
Tarshish. I knew that You are a
gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion—One who relents from sending
disaster.
Therefore now, O LORD, take, I
beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
And now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”
So
Jonah went out of the city,
and sat on the east side of the city,
and there made him a
booth,
and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
Then
Jonah left the city
and sat down east of it, where he made himself a shelter
and sat in its shade to see what would happen to the city.
And the LORD God prepared a
gourd,
and made it to come up over
Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So
Jonah was exceeding
glad of the
gourd.
So the LORD God appointed a vine,
and it grew up to provide shade over
Jonah’s head to ease his discomfort,
and Jonah was greatly pleased with the plant.
But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day,
and it
smote the
gourd that it
withered.
When
dawn came the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the plant so that it
withered.
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a
vehement east wind;
and the sun beat upon the head of
Jonah, that he
fainted,
and wished in himself to die,
and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
As the sun was rising, God appointed a
scorching east wind,
and the sun beat down on
Jonah’s head so that he grew
faint and wished to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
And God said to
Jonah, Doest thou well to be
angry for the
gourd?
And he said, I do well to be
angry, even unto death.
Then God asked
Jonah, “Have you any right to be
angry about the plant?” “I do,” he replied. “I am
angry enough to die!”
Then said the LORD, Thou hast had
pity on the
gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night,
and perished in a night:
But the LORD said, “You cared about the plant, which you neither tended nor made grow. It
sprang up in a night
and perished in a night.
And should not I
spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than
sixscore thousand persons that cannot
discern between their right hand
and their left hand;
and also much cattle?
So should I not care about the great city of
Nineveh, which has more than 120,000 people who cannot tell their right hand from their left,
and many cattle as well?”
The word of the LORD that came to
Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham,
Ahaz,
and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria
and Jerusalem.
This is the word of the LORD that came to
Micah the Moreshite in the days of Jotham,
Ahaz,
and Hezekiah, kings of Judah—what he saw regarding Samaria
and Jerusalem:
Hear, all ye people;
hearken, O earth,
and all that therein is:
and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
Hear, O peoples, all of you;
listen, O earth,
and everyone in it! May the Lord GOD bear witness against you, the Lord from His holy temple.
For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place,
and will come down,
and tread upon the high places of the earth.
For behold, the LORD comes forth from His dwelling place; He will come down
and tread on the high places of the earth.
And the mountains shall be
molten under him,
and the valleys shall be
cleft, as wax before the fire,
and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.
The mountains will
melt beneath Him,
and the valleys will split apart, like wax before the fire, like water
rushing down a slope.
For the
transgression of Jacob is all this,
and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria?
and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?
All this is for the
transgression of Jacob
and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the
transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria?
And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?
Therefore I will make Samaria as an
heap of the field,
and as plantings of a
vineyard:
and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley,
and I will discover the foundations thereof.
Therefore I will make Samaria a
heap of
rubble in the open field, a planting area for a
vineyard. I will pour her stones into the valley
and expose her foundations.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces,
and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire,
and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot,
and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire,
and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
Make thee
bald,
and poll thee for thy delicate children;
enlarge thy
baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.
Woe to them that
devise iniquity,
and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they
practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
Woe to those who
devise iniquity
and plot evil on their beds! At morning’s light they
accomplish it because the power is in their hands.
And they
covet fields,
and take them by violence;
and houses,
and take them away: so they
oppress a man
and his house, even a man
and his
heritage.
They
covet fields
and seize them; they take away houses. They deprive a man of his home, a fellow man of his inheritance.
In that day shall one take up a parable against you,
and lament with a
doleful lamentation,
and say, We be utterly
spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
In that day they will take up a
proverb against you
and taunt you with this bitter
lamentation: ‘We are utterly ruined! He has changed the portion of my people. How He has removed it from me! He has
allotted our fields to traitors.’”
Arise ye,
and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is
polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a
sore destruction.
Arise
and depart, for this is not your place of rest, because its
defilement brings destruction— a
grievous destruction!
If a man walking in the spirit
and falsehood do lie, saying, I will
prophesy unto thee of wine
and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
If a man of wind were to come
and say falsely, “I will
preach to you of wine
and strong drink,” he would be just the preacher for this people!
The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate, and go out by it. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD as their leader.
And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?
Then I said: “Hear now, O leaders of Jacob, you rulers of the house of Israel. Should you not know justice?
Who
hate the good,
and love the evil; who
pluck off their skin from off them,
and their flesh from off their bones;
You
hate good
and love evil. You
tear the skin from my people
and strip the flesh from their bones.
Who also eat the flesh of my people,
and flay their skin from off them;
and they break their bones,
and chop them in pieces, as for the pot,
and as flesh within the
caldron.
You eat the flesh of my people after
stripping off their skin
and breaking their bones. You
chop them up like flesh for the
cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”
Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people
err, that
bite with their teeth,
and cry, Peace;
and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.
This is what the LORD says: “As for the prophets who lead My people
astray, who
proclaim peace while they
chew with their teeth, but declare war against one who puts nothing in their mouths:
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore night will come over you without visions,
and darkness without
divination. The sun will set on these prophets,
and the
daylight will turn black over them.
Then shall the seers be
ashamed,
and the diviners confounded:
yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
Then the seers will be
ashamed and the diviners will be disgraced. They will all cover their mouths because there is no answer from God.”
But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD,
and of judgment,
and of might, to declare unto Jacob his
transgression,
and to Israel his sin.
As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the LORD, with justice
and courage, to declare to Jacob his
transgression and to Israel his sin.
Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob,
and princes of the house of Israel, that
abhor judgment,
and pervert all
equity.
Now hear this, O leaders of the house of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel, who
despise justice
and pervert all that is right,
They build up
Zion with blood,
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
The heads thereof judge for reward,
and the priests thereof teach for
hire,
and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they
lean upon the LORD,
and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
Her leaders judge for a
bribe, her priests teach for a price,
and her prophets practice
divination for money. Yet they
lean upon the LORD, saying, “Is not the LORD among us? No
disaster can come upon us.”
Therefore shall
Zion for your sake be
plowed as a field,
and Jerusalem shall become heaps,
and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
Therefore, because of you,
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble,
and the temple mount a wooded ridge.
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains,
and it shall be
exalted above the hills;
and people shall flow unto it.
In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.
And many nations shall come,
and say, Come,
and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
and to the house of the God of Jacob;
and he will teach us of his ways,
and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of
Zion,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many nations will come
and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from
Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And he shall judge among many people,
and rebuke strong nations
afar off;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Then He will judge between many peoples
and arbitrate for strong nations far
and wide. Then they will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into
pruning hooks. Nation will no longer take up the sword against nation, nor will they train anymore for war.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.
And each man will sit under his own vine
and under his own fig tree, with no one to
frighten him. For the mouth of the LORD of Hosts has spoken.
