anyone cross from there to us.’

Jew of

Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I

Tarsus in
Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Now I

expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I
beseech thee to hear me patiently.
especially since you are acquainted with all the Jewish customs and
controversies. I
beg you, therefore, to
listen to me patiently.
And as he thus spake for himself,
Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art
beside thyself; much learning
doth make thee
mad.
For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Therefore I
urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Now I
beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye
strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
Now I
urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.
Greet Mary, who
bestowed much labour on us.
Greet Mary, who has worked very hard for you.
Now I
beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Now I
urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who
create divisions and obstacles that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them.
Now I
beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction.
And I
baptized also the household of Stephanas:
besides, I know not whether I
baptized any other.
Wherefore I
beseech you, be ye followers of me.
And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we
bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant
comeliness.
and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special
modesty,
But
covet earnestly the
best gifts: and yet
shew I unto you a more excellent way.
But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
And though I
bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and
exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
I
beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of
Achaia, and that they have
addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
You know that Stephanas and his household were the first converts in
Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Now I
urge you, brothers,
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift
bestowed upon us by the means of many persons
thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give
thanks on our behalf for the favor shown us in answer to their prayers.
For whether we be
beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be
sober, it is for your cause.
If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did
beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s
stead, be ye
reconciled to God.
Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We
implore you on behalf of Christ: Be
reconciled to God.
We then, as workers together with him,
beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
As God’s fellow workers, then, we
urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.
Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God
bestowed on the churches of
Macedonia;
Now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the churches of
Macedonia.
Now I Paul myself
beseech you by the
meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Now by the mildness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am humble when face to face with you, but bold when away.
But I
beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence,
wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
I
beg you that when I come I may not need to be as bold as I expect toward those who
presume that we live according to the flesh.
Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
Apart from these external trials, I face daily the pressure of my
concern for all the churches.
For this thing I
besought the Lord
thrice, that it might depart from me.
Three times I
pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
I fear for you, that my efforts for you may have been in vain.
Brethren, I
beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
I
beg you, brothers, become like me, for I became like you. You have done me no wrong.
As a prisoner in the Lord, then, I
urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling you have received:
That ye may
approve things that are excellent; that ye may be
sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
so that you may be able to test and prove what is
best and may be pure and
blameless for the day of Christ,
I
beseech Euodias, and
beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
I
urge Euodia and Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord.
Furthermore then we
beseech you, brethren, and
exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
Finally, brothers, we ask and
encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.
And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all
Macedonia: but we
beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
And you are indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout
Macedonia. But we
urge you, brothers, to
excel more and more
And we
beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and
admonish you;
But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work
diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction.
Now we
beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
As I
besought thee to
abide still at Ephesus, when I went into
Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
As I urged you on my departure to
Macedonia, you should stay on at Ephesus to
instruct certain men not to teach false doctrines
Bring Zenas the
lawyer and Apollos on their journey
diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
Do your
best to
equip Zenas the
lawyer and Apollos, so that they will have everything they need.
Yet for love’s sake I rather
beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
I
prefer to appeal on the basis of love. For I, Paul, am now aged, and a prisoner of Christ Jesus as well.
I appeal to you for my child
Onesimus, whose father I became while I was in chains.
I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it:
albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self
besides.
I, Paul, write this with my own hand. I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me your very self.
Who can have
compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with
infirmity.
He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is
beset by weakness.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
doth so easily
beset us, and let us run with
patience the race that is set before us,
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every
encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with
endurance the race set out for us.
For they
verily for a few days
chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his
holiness.
Our fathers disciplined us for a short time as they thought
best, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His
holiness.
But I
beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
And I especially
urge you to pray that I may be restored to you soon.
And I
beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of
exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
I
urge you, brothers, to bear with my word of
exhortation, for I have only written to you briefly.
Dearly beloved, I
beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Beloved, I
urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to
abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul.
And
beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
And now I
beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
And now I
urge you,
dear lady—not as a new commandment to you, but one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another.
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had
gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, beside which stood those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name. They were holding harps from God,
So of Israel, from them of twelve years old and upward, they were all in number forty thousand, beside menservants and womenservants two thousand three hundred and sixty.
And again we
besought our Lord as touching these things, and found him favourable unto us.
The number of thy children, whom thou longedst for, is fulfilled:
beseech the power of the Lord, that thy people, which have been called from the beginning, may be
hallowed.
Or is there any other people that knoweth thee beside Israel? or what generation hath so believed thy covenants as Jacob?
Then answered I and said, I
beseech thee, O Lord, let me have understanding:
Then said I, Lord, I
beseech thee, if I have found favour in thy sight,
shew thy servant by whom thou visitest thy creature.
Now therefore, Lord, I will speak; touching man in general, thou knowest
best; but touching thy people, for whose sake I am
sorry;
Now therefore I
beseech thee that thou
wilt shew thy servant of this vision.
Therefore will I now
beseech the Highest, that he will comfort me unto the end.
And from the land of the Assyrians shall the enemy
besiege them, and
consume some of them, and in their host shall be fear and
dread, and
strife among their kings.
They shall come to her, and
besiege her, the star and all wrath shall they pour out upon her: then shall the dust and smoke go up unto the heaven, and all they that be about her shall
bewail her.
Then all my goods were
forcibly taken away, neither was there any thing left me,
beside my wife
Anna and my son Tobias.
And when she had sent them home to the owners, they paid her wages, and gave her also
besides a
kid.
Now therefore deal with me as seemeth
best unto thee, and command my spirit to be taken from me, that I may be dissolved, and become earth: for it is profitable for me to die rather than to live, because I have heard false reproaches, and have much sorrow: command therefore that I may now be delivered out of this distress, and go into the
everlasting place: turn not thy face away from me.
Then their strong men removed their camps in that day, and the army of the men of war was an hundred and seventy thousand
footmen, and twelve thousand
horsemen,
beside the
baggage, and other men that were
afoot among them, a very great multitude.
And when she came out, she
besought the Lord God of Israel to direct her way to the raising up of the children of her people.
Nevertheless, when I perceived that I could not otherwise obtain her, except God gave her me; and that was a point of wisdom also to know whose gift she was; I prayed unto the Lord, and
besought him, and with my whole heart I said,
