The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the
fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
The wise man has eyes in his head, but the
fool walks in darkness. Yet I also came to
realize that one fate overcomes them
both.
For there is no
remembrance of the wise more than of the
fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the
fool.
For there is no lasting
remembrance of the wise, just as with the
fool, seeing that
both will be forgotten in the days to come.
Alas, the wise man will die just like the
fool!
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other;
yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
For the fates of
both men and beasts are the same: As one dies, so dies the other—they all have the same breath. Man has no advantage over the animals, since everything is
futile.
Yea, better is he than
both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
But better than both is he who has not yet existed, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.
Better is an handful with quietness, than
both the hands full with
travail and
vexation of spirit.
Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with
toil and pursuit of the wind.
All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.
In my
futile life I have seen
both of these: A righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow
both warnings.
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth
both time and judgment.
Whoever keeps his command will come to no
harm, and a wise heart knows the right time and procedure.
In the morning
sow thy seed, and in the evening
withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall
prosper, either this or that, or whether they
both shall be alike good.
Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or if
both will equally
prosper.
And the strong shall be as
tow, and the maker of it as a
spark, and they shall
both burn together, and none shall
quench them.
The strong man will become
tinder and his work will be a
spark;
both will burn together, with no one to
quench the flames.
For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts,
doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
For behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: the whole supply of food and water,
For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be
forsaken of
both her kings.
For before the boy knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you
dread will be laid waste.
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of
stumbling and for a rock of offence to
both the houses of Israel, for a
gin and for a
snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And He will be a sanctuary— but to
both houses of Israel a stone of
stumbling and a rock of
offense, to the dwellers of Jerusalem a
trap and a
snare.
Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and
rush, in one day.
So the LORD will cut off Israel’s head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day.
And shall
consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field,
both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
The
splendor of its forests and orchards,
both soul and body, it will completely destroy, as a sickness consumes a man.
Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel
both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
Behold, the Day of the LORD is coming— cruel, with
fury and burning anger— to make the earth a
desolation and to destroy the sinners within it.
For
afore the harvest, when the
bud is perfect, and the
sour grape is
ripening in the flower, he shall
both cut off the sprigs with pruninghooks, and take away and cut down the branches.
For before the harvest, when the
blossom is gone and the flower becomes a
ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with a
pruning knife and remove and discard the branches.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand,
both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall;
both will perish together.
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I will walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
The smith with the
tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms:
yea, he is
hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is
faint.
The
blacksmith takes a tool and labors over the coals; he fashions an
idol with hammers and forges it with his strong arms. Yet he grows
hungry and loses his strength; he fails to drink water and grows
faint.
Your
iniquities, and the
iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and
blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their
bosom.
both for your
iniquities and for those of your fathers,” says the LORD. “Because they burned incense on the mountains and
scorned Me on the hills, I will measure into their laps full payment for their former deeds.”
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have
sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
Let us lie down in our shame; let our disgrace cover us. We have
sinned against the LORD our God,
both we and our fathers; from our youth even to this day we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.”
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
They have not said in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
Therefore I am full of the
fury of the LORD; I am
weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
But I am full of the LORD’s wrath; I am
tired of holding it back. “Pour it out on the children in the street, and on the young men gathered together. For
both husband and wife will be captured, the old and the very old alike.
For the mountains will I take up a
weeping and
wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a
lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle;
both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
I will take up a
weeping and
wailing for the mountains, a
dirge over the wilderness pasture, for they have been
scorched so no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard.
Both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled; they have gone away.
If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine!
yea,
both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
If I go out to the country, I see those slain by the sword; if I enter the city, I see those
ravaged by famine! For
both prophet and priest travel to a land they do not know.’”
Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men
lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves
bald for them:
“
Both great and small will die in this land. They will not be buried or
mourned, nor will
anyone cut himself or
shave his head for them.
And I will
smite the inhabitants of this city,
both man and beast: they shall die of a great
pestilence.
I will strike down the residents of this city, both man and beast. They will die in a terrible plague.’
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
I will
hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another land, where neither of you were born—and there you
both will die.
For
both prophet and priest are
profane;
yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
“For both prophet and priest are ungodly; even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the LORD.
Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly
forget you, and I will
forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
therefore I will surely
forget you and will cast you out of My presence,
both you and the city that I gave to you and your fathers.
And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
all the kings of the north, both near and far, one after another—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshach will drink it too.
To
hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you,
both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not
hearkened;
and if you do not
listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have sent you again and again even though you did not
listen,
The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old
prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of
pestilence.
The prophets of old who preceded you and me
prophesied war,
disaster, and plague against many lands and great kingdoms.
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance,
both young men and old together: for I will turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will turn their
mourning into joy, and give them comfort and joy for their sorrow.
So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:
Then I took the deed of purchase—the sealed copy with its terms and conditions, as well as the open copy—
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase,
both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an
earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds—
both the sealed copy and the open copy of the deed of purchase—and put them in a clay
jar to preserve them for a long time.
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day,
both in Israel and among all mankind. And You have made a name for
Yourself, as is the case to this day.
That every man should let his
manservant, and every man his
maidservant, being an Hebrew or an
Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a
Jew his brother.
that each man should free his Hebrew slaves,
both male and female, and no one should hold his fellow
Jew in
bondage.
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid
both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have
both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have
vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely
accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: As for you and your wives, you have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands your words: ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have made to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Go
ahead, then, do what you have promised! Keep your vows!
The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath
stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen
both together.
The nations have heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because
warrior stumbles over
warrior and
both of them have fallen together.”
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart,
both man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land a
desolation. No one will live in it;
both man and beast will
flee.”
Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath
both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has
both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
And lest your heart
faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall
both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.
Do not let your heart grow
faint, and do not be afraid when the
rumor is heard in the land; for a
rumor will come one year— and then another the next year— of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in
Zion, and hath
despised in the
indignation of his anger the king and the priest.
He has laid waste His tabernacle like a garden
booth; He has destroyed His place of meeting. The LORD has made
Zion forget her appointed feasts and Sabbaths. In His fierce anger He has
despised both king and priest.
The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and old lie together in the dust of the streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
Do not
both adversity and good come from the mouth of the Most High?
For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any
strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.
The seller will surely not recover what he sold while
both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be
revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life.
Slay utterly old and young,
both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.
Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and children; but do not go near
anyone who has the mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast,
Or if I send a
pestilence into that land, and pour out my
fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out My wrath upon it through
bloodshed, cutting off from it
both man and beast,
For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four
sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the
noisome beast, and the
pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My four
dire judgments—sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it
both man and beast?
Yet, behold, therein shall be left a
remnant that shall be brought forth,
both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.
Yet, behold, some survivors will be left in it—sons and daughters who will be brought out. They will come out to you, and when you see their conduct and actions, you will be comforted regarding the
disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem—all that I have brought upon it.
Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?
No, it is cast into the fire for fuel. The fire devours
both ends, and the middle is
charred. Can it be useful for anything?
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
kindle a fire in thee, and it shall
devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be
quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.
Say to the forest of the Negev: Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Lord GOD says: I am about to
ignite in you a fire, and it will
devour all your trees,
both green and dry. The
blazing flame will not be
quenched, and by it every face from south to north will be
scorched.
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you
both the righteous and the wicked.
Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his
sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Because I will cut off
both the righteous and the wicked, My sword will be
unsheathed against
everyone from south to north.
Also, thou son of man,
appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come:
both twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
“Now you, son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take,
both starting from the same land. And make a
signpost where the road branches off to each city.
Then I saw that she was
defiled, that they took
both one way,
And I saw that she too had
defiled herself;
both of them had taken the same path.
And they shall deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered,
both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and leave you naked and bare, so that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon
Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it
desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.
therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will stretch out My hand against
Edom and cut off from it
both man and beast. I will make it a wasteland, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself will search for My flock and seek them out.
And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out,
kindle fires, and burn up the weapons—the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.
And there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about, like those windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
Both the
gateway and its
portico had windows all around, like the other windows. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, according to these measures: and there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
Its gate chambers, side pillars, and
portico had the same measurements as the others.
Both the
gateway and its
portico had windows all around; it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, were according to these measures: and there were windows therein and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
Its gate chambers, side pillars, and
portico had the same measurements as the others.
Both the
gateway and its
portico had windows all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors.
Both the outer sanctuary and the inner sanctuary had double doors,
And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers which were toward the north, as long as they, and as broad as they: and all their goings out were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors.
with a
passageway in front of them, just like the chambers that were on the north. They had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions.
Seven days shalt thou prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: they shall also prepare a young
bullock, and a ram out of the flock, without
blemish.
For seven days you are to provide a male goat daily for a sin offering; you are also to provide a young bull and a ram from the flock,
both unblemished.
In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers,
uncircumcised in heart, and
uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to
pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant because of all your abominations.
In addition to all your other abominations, you brought in foreigners
uncircumcised in
both heart and flesh to occupy My sanctuary; you
defiled My temple when you offered My food—the fat and the blood; you broke My covenant.
The
ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the
ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer.
The
ephah and the bath shall be the same quantity so that the bath will contain a tenth of a homer, and the
ephah a tenth of a homer; the homer will be the standard measure for
both.
Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
When I arrived, I saw a great number of trees along both banks of the river.
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Along
both banks of the river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be used for food and their leaves for
healing.”
And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy
oblation, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty thousand of the
oblation toward the east border, and westward over against the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the holy
oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area on
both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the
tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the
transgression of
desolation, to give
both the sanctuary and the host to be
trodden under foot?
Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long until the
fulfillment of the vision of the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes
desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host to be
trampled?”
And
both these kings’ hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not
prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.
And the two kings, with their hearts bent on evil, will speak lies at the same table, but to no
avail, for still the end will come at the appointed time.
And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will
punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
And it shall be like people, like priest. I will
punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.
Be
glad then, ye children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Be
glad, O children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your God, for He has given you the autumn rains for your
vindication. He sends you showers,
both autumn and spring rains, as before.
But let man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and cry
mightily unto God:
yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Furthermore, let
both man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and have
everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through,
both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
That they may do evil with
both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his
mischievous desire: so they
wrap it up.
Both hands are skilled at evil; the prince and the judge demand a
bribe. When the powerful utters his evil desire, they all
conspire together.
The
horseman lifteth up
both the bright sword and the
glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they
stumble upon their corpses:
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations:
both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Yes, He will build the temple of the LORD; He will be clothed in
splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. And He will be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and
gladness, and
cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: The fasts of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months will become times of joy and
gladness,
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore you are to love
both truth and peace.”
Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of
trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege
both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of
drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples. Judah will be besieged, as well as Jerusalem.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will
hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
No one can serve two masters: Either he will
hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and
despise the other. You cannot serve
both God and money.
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will
burst, the wine will
spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and
both are preserved.”
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy
both soul and body in
hell.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy
both soul and body in
hell.
Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and
dumb: and he
healed him,
insomuch that the blind and
dumb both spake and saw.
Then a
demon-possessed man who was blind and
mute was brought to Jesus, and He
healed the man so that he could speak and see.
Let
both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my
barn.
Let
both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and
tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my
barn.’”
Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind,
both shall fall into the
ditch.
Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”
So those servants went out into the
highways, and gathered together all as many as they found,
both bad and good: and the
wedding was furnished with guests.
So the servants went out into the streets and gathered
everyone they could find,
both evil and good, and the
wedding hall was filled with guests.
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and
buy for
yourselves.
‘No,’ said the wise ones, ‘or there may not be enough for
both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and
buy some for
yourselves.’
