appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the Testimony, all its furnishings, and everything in it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its articles, care for it, and
camp around it.
And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.
But the Levites are to camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony and watch over it, so that no wrath will fall on the congregation of Israel. So the Levites are responsible for the tabernacle of the Testimony.”
Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the
ensign of their father’s house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch.
“The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance from it, each man under his standard, with the banners of his family.
And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the

camp next to it. The leader of the Simeonites is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,

encamped, each in his own place under his standard.

And the chief of the house of the father of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail: these shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle northward.

But those that
encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh

camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the

camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of

Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.
When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all their
equipment, as soon as the
camp is ready to move, the Kohathites shall come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy objects, or they will die. These are the
transportation duties of the Kohathites regarding the Tent of Meeting.
Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the
camp every
leper, and every one that hath an issue, and
whosoever is
defiled by the dead:
“Command the Israelites to send away from the
camp anyone with a skin disease,
anyone who has a bodily discharge, and
anyone who is
defiled by a dead body.
Both male and female shall ye put out, without the
camp shall ye put them; that they
defile not their
camps, in the midst
whereof I dwell.
You must send away male and female alike; send them outside the
camp so they will not
defile their
camp, where I dwell among them.”
And the children of Israel did so, and put them out without the camp: as the LORD spake unto Moses, so did the children of Israel.
So the Israelites did this, sending such people outside the
camp. They did just as the LORD had
instructed Moses.
And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
Whenever the cloud was lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites would set out, and wherever the cloud settled, there the Israelites would camp.
At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
At the LORD’s command the Israelites set out, and at the LORD’s command they
camped. As long as the cloud remained over the tabernacle, they remained
encamped.
And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.
Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days, and they would camp at the LORD’s command and set out at the LORD’s command.
Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud
tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining
thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
Whether the cloud
lingered for two days, a month, or longer, the Israelites
camped and did not set out as long as the cloud remained over the tabernacle; but when it was lifted, they would set out.
At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
They camped at the LORD’s command, and they set out at the LORD’s command; they carried out the LORD’s charge according to His command through Moses.
Make thee two
trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the
camps.

trumpets of hammered silver to be used for calling the congregation and for having the
camps set out.
When ye blow an
alarm, then the
camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.
When you sound short blasts, the camps that lie on the east side are to set out.
When ye blow an
alarm the second time, then the
camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an
alarm for their journeys.
When you sound the short blasts a second time, the camps that lie on the south side are to set out. The blasts are to signal them to set out.
In the first place went the standard of the
camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of
Amminadab.
First, the divisions of the
camp of Judah set out under their standard, with Nahshon son of
Amminadab in command.
And the standard of the
camp of
Reuben set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.
Then the divisions of the
camp of
Reuben set out under their standard, with Elizur son of Shedeur in command.
And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.
Next, the divisions of the camp of Ephraim set out under their standard, with Elishama son of Ammihud in command.
And the standard of the
camp of the children of
Dan set forward, which was the rereward of all the
camps throughout their hosts: and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.
Finally, the divisions of the
camp of
Dan set out under their standard, serving as the rear guard for all units, with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai in command.
And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee;
forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to
encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
“Please do not leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.
And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.
And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp.
And when the people
complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was
kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the
uttermost parts of the
camp.
Soon the people began to
complain about their
hardship in the hearing of the LORD, and when He heard them, His anger was
kindled, and fire from the LORD
blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the
camp.
And when the
dew fell upon the
camp in the night, the
manna fell upon it.
When the
dew fell on the
camp at night, the
manna would fall with it.
But there remained two of the men in the
camp, the name of the one was
Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they
prophesied in the
camp.
Two men, however, had remained in the
camp—one named
Eldad and the other Medad—and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent, and they
prophesied in the
camp.
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said,
Eldad and Medad do
prophesy in the
camp.
A young man ran and reported to Moses, “
Eldad and Medad are
prophesying in the
camp.”
And Moses
gat him into the
camp, he and the elders of Israel.
Then Moses returned to the camp, along with the elders of Israel.
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
Now a wind sent by the LORD came up, drove in
quail from the sea, and brought them near the
camp, about two cubits above the surface of the ground, for a day’s journey in every direction around the
camp.
And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
All that day and night, and all the next day, the people stayed up gathering the
quail. No one gathered less than ten homers, and they spread them out all around the
camp.
And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but
spit in her face, should she not be
ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the
camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
But the LORD answered Moses, “If her father had but
spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the
camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in.”
And
Miriam was shut out from the
camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till
Miriam was brought in again.
So
Miriam was confined outside the
camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until she was brought in again.
And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of
Paran.
After that, the people set out from Hazeroth and
camped in the Wilderness of
Paran.
And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
Is the land where they live good or bad? Are the cities where they dwell open camps or fortifications?
But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
But they
dared to go up to the ridge of the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the covenant of the LORD moved from the
camp.
And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
And the LORD said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death. The whole congregation is to stone him outside the camp.”
And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
So the whole congregation took the man outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And ye shall give her unto
Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the
camp, and one shall
slay her before his face:
Give it to
Eleazar the priest, and he will have it brought outside the
camp and slaughtered in his presence.
Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall
bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the
camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.
Then the priest must wash his clothes and
bathe his body in water; after that he may enter the
camp, but he will be
ceremonially unclean until evening.
