dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.
They went up and

dan to this day.

camp from
Jabesh-
gilead to the assembly.

Mizpah?” And, in fact, no one from
Jabesh-
gilead had come to the
camp for the assembly.
And they found among the inhabitants of
Jabesh-
gilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the
camp to
Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan.

Jabesh-
gilead four hundred young women who had not had relations with a man, and they brought them to the
camp at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan.

camped at
Ebenezer, while the Philistines

And when the people were come into the
camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD
smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us
fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of
Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.
When the troops returned to the
camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why has the LORD brought defeat on us before the Philistines
today? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Shiloh, so that it may go with us to save us from the hand of our enemies.”
And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the
camp, all Israel
shouted with a great
shout, so that the earth
rang again.
When the ark of the covenant of the LORD entered the
camp, all the Israelites raised such a great
shout that it
shook the ground.
And when the Philistines heard the noise of the
shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great
shout in the
camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the
camp.
On hearing the noise of the
shout, the Philistines asked, “What is this loud
shouting in the
camp of the Hebrews?” And when they realized that the ark of the LORD had entered the
camp,
And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the
camp. And they said,
Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing
heretofore.

camp!” they said. “
Woe to us, for nothing like this has happened before.
And it was so on the
morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and
slew the
Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
The next day Saul organized the troops into three divisions, and during the morning watch they invaded the
camp of the
Ammonites and slaughtered them, until the hottest part of the day. And the survivors were so scattered that no two of them were left together.

chariots, and six thousand
horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in
Michmash, eastward from Beth-
aven.

aven.
And Saul, and
Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines
encamped in

And raiders went out of the
Philistine camp in three divisions. One headed toward Ophrah in the land of Shual,
And there was
trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also
trembled, and the earth
quaked: so it was a very great
trembling.
Then terror struck the Philistines in the
camp, in the field, and among all the people. Even those in the outposts and
raiding parties
trembled. Indeed, the earth
quaked and
panic spread from God.
And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.
While Saul was talking to the priest, the
commotion in the
Philistine camp continued to increase. So Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand.”
Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the
camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and
Jonathan.
And the Hebrews who had previously gone up into the surrounding
camps of the Philistines now went over to the Israelites who were with Saul and
Jonathan.
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.

And
Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an
ephah of this
parched corn, and these ten
loaves, and run to the
camp to thy brethren;
One day
Jesse said to his son David, “Take this
ephah of
roasted grain and these ten
loaves of bread for your brothers and
hurry to their
camp.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as
Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the
trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and
shouted for the battle.
So David got up early in the morning, left the flock with a keeper, loaded up, and set out as
Jesse had
instructed him. He reached the
camp as the army was marching out to its position and
shouting the battle cry.
And the children of Israel returned from
chasing after the Philistines, and they
spoiled their tents.
When the Israelites returned from their pursuit of the Philistines, they
plundered their
camps.
And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
Saul camped beside the road at the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon, but David was living in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had followed him there,
And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David
beheld the place where Saul lay, and
Abner the son of
Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the
trench, and the people pitched round about him.
Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had
camped. He saw the place where Saul and
Abner son of
Ner, the general of his army, had
lain down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the
camp, with the troops
camped around him.
Then answered David and said to
Ahimelech the Hittite, and to
Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to
Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the
camp? And
Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
And David asked
Ahimelech the Hittite and
Abishai son of Zeruiah,
Joab’s brother, “Who will go down with me to Saul in the
camp?” “I will go with you,” answered
Abishai.
So David and
Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the
trench, and his
spear stuck in the ground at his
bolster: but
Abner and the people lay round about him.
That night David and
Abishai came to the troops, and Saul was lying there
asleep in the inner circle of the
camp, with his
spear stuck in the ground by his head. And
Abner and the troops were lying around him.
And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in
Gilboa.
The Philistines came together and
camped at Shunem, while Saul gathered all Israel and
camped at
Gilboa.
Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in
Jezreel.
Now the Philistines brought all their forces together at Aphek, while Israel
camped by the spring in

It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the
camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did
obeisance.
On the third day a man with
torn clothes and dust on his head arrived from Saul’s
camp. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him
homage.
And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
“Where have you come from?” David asked. “I have escaped from the
Israelite camp,” he replied.
And
Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the
pool of
Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the
pool, and the other on the other side of the
pool.
So
Joab son of Zeruiah, along with the servants of David, marched out and met them by the
pool of
Gibeon. And the two
camps took up positions on opposite sides of the
pool.
And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt
bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move quickly, because this will mean that the LORD has marched out before you to strike the
camp of the Philistines.”
And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah,
abide in tents; and my lord
Joab, and the servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
Uriah answered, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master
Joab and his soldiers are
camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!”
And the three mighty men
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.
So the three mighty men broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well near the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of
Gad, and toward Jazer:
They crossed the Jordan and
camped near Aroer, south of the town in the middle of the valley, and proceeded toward
Gad and Jazer.
And the people that were
encamped heard say, Zimri hath
conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the
camp.
and the people in the
camp heard that Zimri had not only
conspired but had also struck down the king. So there in the
camp that very day, all Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
The Israelites also
mobilized, gathered supplies, and marched out to meet them. The Israelites
camped before them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the
countryside.
And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel
slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand
footmen in one day.
For seven days the armies
camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle
ensued, and the Israelites struck down the Arameans—a hundred thousand foot soldiers in one day.
And when they came to the
camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and
smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward
smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
Then the king of Syria
warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my
camp.
Now the king of
Aram was at war against Israel. After
consulting with his servants, he said, “My
camp will be in such and such a place.”
If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
If we say, ‘Let us go into the city,’ we will die there from the famine in the city; but if we sit here, we will also die. So come now, let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we will live; if they kill us, we will die.”
And they rose up in the
twilight, to go unto the
camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the
uttermost part of the
camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.
So they arose at
twilight and went to the
camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the outskirts of the
camp, there was not a man to be found.
Wherefore they arose and fled in the
twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their
asses, even the
camp as it was, and fled for their life.
And when these lepers came to the
uttermost part of the
camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and
raiment, and went and
hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and
hid it.
When the lepers reached the edge of the
camp, they went into a tent to eat and drink. Then they carried off the silver, gold, and clothing, and went and
hid them. On returning, they entered another tent, carried off some items from there, and
hid them.
So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the
camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses
tied, and
asses tied, and the tents as they were.
So they went and called out to the gatekeepers of the city, saying, “We went to the
Aramean camp and no one was there—not a trace—only
tethered horses and
donkeys, and the tents were
intact.”
And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now
shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be
hungry; therefore are they gone out of the
camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
So the king got up in the night and said to his servants, “Let me tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are
starving, so they have left the
camp to hide in the field, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we will take them alive and enter the city.’”
And the people went out, and
spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
Then the people went out and
plundered the
camp of the Arameans. It was then that a
seah of fine flour sold for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a
shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and
smote in the
camp of the Assyrians an hundred
fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
And that very night the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
So
Sennacherib king of Assyria broke
camp and withdrew. He returned to
Nineveh and stayed there.
Who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were
porters in the companies of the children of Levi.
Shallum was their chief; he was previously stationed at the King’s Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites.
And the three
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD,
So the Three broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the
camp of the Philistines.”
So they
hired thirty and two thousand
chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of
Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
So they
hired for themselves thirty-two thousand
chariots, as well as the king of
Maacah with his troops, who came and
camped near Medeba while the
Ammonites came from their cities and marched out for battle.
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah his youngest son king in his
stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the
camp had slain all the eldest. So
Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
Then the people of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah, the youngest son of Jehoram, king in his place, since the raiders who had come into the
camp with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. So
Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the
camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the
camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
And I gathered them together to the river than runneth to
Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
Now I assembled these exiles at the canal that flows to
Ahava, and we
camped there three days. And when I searched among the people and priests, I found no Levites there.
So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware
lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.
Once or twice, the merchants and those who sell all kinds of goods camped outside Jerusalem,
Then I
testified against them, and said unto them, Why
lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
but I
warned them, “Why are you
camping in front of the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they did not return on the Sabbath.
And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
He felled them in the midst of their camp, all around their dwellings.
They
envied Moses also in the
camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.
In the
camp they
envied Moses, as well as Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.
My beloved is unto me as a
cluster of
camphire in the vineyards of En-gedi.
My beloved is to me a
cluster of
henna blossoms in the vineyards of En-gedi.
Your branches are an
orchard of pomegranates with the choicest of fruits, with
henna and
nard,
Woe to
Ariel, to
Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.
Woe to you, O
Ariel, the city of
Ariel where David
camped! Year upon year let your festivals
recur.
And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.
I will
camp in a circle around you; I will
besiege you with towers and set up siege works against you.
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and
smote in the
camp of the Assyrians a hundred and
fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
Then the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
So
Sennacherib king of Assyria broke
camp and withdrew. He returned to
Nineveh and stayed there.
Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow,
camp against it round about; let none thereof escape:
recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
Summon the archers against Babylon, all who string the bow.
Encamp all around her; let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as she has done. For she has
defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
And lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and cast a mount against it; set the
camp also against it, and set
battering rams against it round about.
Then lay siege against it: Construct a siege wall, build a
ramp to it, set up
camps against it, and place
battering rams around it on all sides.
Behold, therefore I will deliver thee to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in thee, and make their dwellings in thee: they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk.
therefore I will indeed give you as a possession to the people of the East. They will set up their camps and pitch their tents among you. They will eat your fruit and drink your milk.
And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his
camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can
abide it?
The LORD raises His voice in the presence of His army. Indeed, His
camp is very large, for mighty are those who obey His command. For the Day of the LORD is great and very
dreadful. Who can
endure it?
I have sent among you the
pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the
stink of your
camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
“I sent plagues among you like those of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the
stench of your
camp, yet you did not return to Me,” declares the LORD.
Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of
Zion, like a woman in
travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall
redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
Writhe in
agony, O Daughter of
Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will leave the city and
camp in the open fields. You will go to Babylon; there you will be
rescued; there the LORD will
redeem you from the hand of your enemies!
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which
camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
And I will
encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no
oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
But I will
camp around My house because of an army, because of those who march to and
fro, and never again will an
oppressor overrun My people, for now I keep watch with My own eyes.
And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the
mule, of the
camel, and of the
ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
And a similar plague will strike the horses and mules, camels and
donkeys, and all the animals in those
camps.
For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.
Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore.
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the
camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and
devoured them.
And they marched across the broad
expanse of the earth and surrounded the
camp of the saints and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.
So his servants took him, and brought him out of the camp into the plain, and they went from the midst of the plain into the hill country, and came unto the fountains that were under Bethulia.
The next day Holofernes commanded all his army, and all his people which were come to take his part, that they should remove their
camp against Bethulia, to take
aforehand the ascents of the hill country, and to make war against the children of Israel.
Then their strong men removed their
camps in that day, and the army of the men of war was an hundred and seventy thousand
footmen, and twelve thousand
horsemen, beside the
baggage, and other men that were
afoot among them, a very great multitude.
And they
camped in the valley near unto Bethulia, by the fountain, and they spread themselves in breadth over Dothaim even to Belmaim, and in length from Bethulia unto Cynamon, which is over against
Esdraelon.
Remain in thy camp, and keep all the men of thine army, and let thy servants get into their hands the fountain of water, which issueth forth of the foot of the mountain:
For all the inhabitants of Bethulia have their water thence; so shall
thirst kill them, and they shall give up their city, and we and our people shall go up to the tops of the mountains that are near, and will
camp upon them, to watch that none go out of the city.
So the
camp of the children of
Ammon departed, and with them five thousand of the Assyrians, and they pitched in the valley, and took the waters, and the fountains of the waters of the children of Israel.
Then the children of
Esau went up with the children of
Ammon, and
camped in the hill country over against Dothaim: and they sent some of them toward the south, and toward the east over against Ekrebel, which is near unto Chusi, that is upon the
brook Mochmur; and the rest of the army of the Assyrians
camped in the plain, and covered the face of the whole land; and their tents and carriages were pitched to a very great multitude.
Then was there a
concourse throughout all the
camp: for her coming was noised among the tents, and they came about her, as she stood without the tent of Holofernes, till they told him of her.
Then Holofernes commanded his guard that they should not stay her: thus she abode in the camp three days, and went out in the night into the valley of Bethulia, and washed herself in a fountain of water by the camp.
And she put it in her
bag of meat: so they
twain went together according to their custom unto prayer: and when they passed the
camp, they compassed the valley, and went up the mountain of Bethulia, and came to the gates thereof.
Then they shall take their armour, and shall go into their
camp, and raise up the captains of the army of Assur, and shall run to the tent of Holofernes, but shall not find him: then fear shall fall upon them, and they shall
flee before your face.
When the captains of the Assyrians’ army heard these words, they rent their coats and their minds were wonderfully troubled, and there was a cry and a very great noise throughout the camp.
They also that had
camped in the mountains round about Bethulia fled away. Then the children of Israel, every one that was a
warrior among them,
rushed out upon them.
Now when the children of Israel heard it, they all fell upon them with one consent, and
slew them unto Chobai: likewise also they that came from Jerusalem, and from all the hill country, (for men had told them what things were done in the
