Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, an army is coming from the land of the north; a great nation is
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far
country: Is not the LORD in
Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they
provoked me to anger with their
graven images, and with strange
vanities?
Listen to the cry of the daughter of my people from a land far away: “Is the LORD no longer in
Zion? Is her King no longer there?” “Why have they
provoked Me to anger with their carved images, with their worthless foreign idols?”
Behold, the noise of the
bruit is come, and a great
commotion out of the north
country, to make the cities of Judah
desolate, and a den of
dragons.
Listen! The sound of a report is coming— a great
commotion from the land to the north. The cities of Judah will be made a
desolation, a
haunt for jackals.
If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine!
yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
If I go out to the
country, I see those slain by the sword; if I enter the city, I see those
ravaged by famine! For both prophet and priest travel to a land they do not know.’”
O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the
spoil, and thy high places for sin, throughout all thy borders.
O My mountain in the
countryside, I will give over your wealth and all your treasures as
plunder, because of the sin of your high places, within all your borders.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
And people will come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, and from the foothills, the hill
country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and
frankincense, and
thank offerings to the house of the LORD.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native
country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never return to see his native land.
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
“
Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms without justice, who makes his
countrymen serve without pay, and fails to pay their wages,
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
I will
hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another land, where neither of you were born—and there you both will die.
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north
country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
Behold, I will bring them from the north
country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the
lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.
Behold, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the
farthest parts of the earth, including the blind and the
lame,
expectant mothers and women in labor. They will return as a great assembly!
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the
country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Men shall
buy fields for money, and
subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD.
Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah—the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev—because I will restore them from captivity, declares the LORD.”
In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the
vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks pass again under the hands of him that telleth them, saith the LORD.
In the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev, in the land of Benjamin and the cities surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at
Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at
Noph, and in the
country of Pathros, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in the land of Egypt—in
Migdol, Tahpanhes, and
Memphis—and in the land of Pathros:
For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of
vengeance, that he may
avenge him of his
adversaries: and the sword shall
devour, and it shall be
satiate and made
drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north
country by the river Euphrates.
For that day belongs to the Lord GOD of Hosts, a day of
vengeance against His foes. The sword will
devour until it is satisfied, until it is
quenched with their blood. For the Lord GOD of Hosts will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.
Because of the day that cometh to
spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will
spoil the Philistines, the
remnant of the
country of Caphtor.
For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and
Sidon every remaining ally. Indeed, the LORD is about to destroy the Philistines, the
remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.
And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,
Judgment has come upon the high plain— upon Holon, Jahzah, and Mephaath,
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north
country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.
We would have
healed Babylon, but she is not
healed:
forsake her, and let us go every one into his own
country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the
skies.
“We tried to
heal Babylon, but she could not be
healed.
Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
The sword is without, and the
pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and
pestilence shall
devour him.
The sword is outside; plague and famine are within. Those in the
country will die by the sword, and those in the city will be
devoured by famine and plague.
And I will
purge out from among you the rebels, and them that
transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the
country where they
sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
And I will
purge you of those who
rebel and
transgress against Me. I will bring them out of the land in which they dwell, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land that I
swore to give your fathers.
Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the
country, Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,
therefore I will indeed
expose the
flank of Moab beginning with its frontier cities—Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—the glory of the land.
The suburbs shall
shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.
When I shall make the land of Egypt
desolate, and the
country shall be destitute of that
whereof it was full, when I shall
smite all them that dwell therein, then shall they know that I am the LORD.
‘When I make the land of Egypt a
desolation and empty it of all that filled it, when I strike down all who live there, then they will know that I am the LORD.’
And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
I will bring them out from the peoples, gather them from the countries, and bring them into their own land. I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines, and in all the settlements of the land.
So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall
spoil those that
spoiled them, and
rob those that
robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
They will not gather wood from the
countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will
loot those who
looted them and
plunder those who
plundered them, declares the Lord GOD.
Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east
country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be
healed.
And he said to me, “This water flows out to the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah. When it
empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh.
And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that
sojourn among you, which shall
beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the
country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
You shall
allot it as an inheritance for
yourselves and for the foreigners who dwell among you and who have children. You are to treat them as native-born Israelites; along with you, they shall be
allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
Jacob fled to the land of
Aram and Israel worked for a wife— for a wife he tended sheep.
Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
“Tell us now,” they demanded, “who is to
blame for this
calamity that is upon us? What is your occupation, and where have you come from? What is your
country, and who are your people?”
And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my
country? Therefore I fled before unto
Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a
gracious God, and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
So he prayed to the LORD, saying, “O LORD, is this not what I said while I was still in my own
country? This is why I was so quick to
flee toward
Tarshish. I knew that You are a
gracious and
compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion—One who relents from sending
disaster.
The black horses which are therein go forth into the north
country; and the white go forth after them; and the
grisled go forth toward the south
country.
The one with the black horses is going toward the land of the north, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the
dappled horses toward the south.”
Then
cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north
country have quieted my spirit in the north
country.
Then the LORD summoned me and said, “Behold, those going to the land of the north have given rest to My Spirit in the land of the north.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;

And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

demon-possessed men coming from the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

And when he was come into his own
country, he taught them in their
synagogue,
insomuch that they were
astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Coming to His hometown, He taught the people in their
synagogue, and they were
astonished. “Where did this man get such wisdom and
miraculous powers?” they asked.
And they were
offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own
country, and in his own house.
And they took
offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor.”
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a
vineyard, and
hedged it round about, and
digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far
country:
Listen to another parable: There was a
landowner who planted a
vineyard. He put a wall around it,
dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all

And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
Jesus went on from there and came to His hometown, accompanied by His disciples.
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own
country, and among his own
kin, and in his own house.
Then Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household is a prophet without honor.”
Send them away, that they may go into the
country round about, and into the villages, and
buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding
countryside and villages and
buy themselves something to eat.”
And
whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or
country, they laid the sick in the streets, and
besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
And wherever He went—villages and towns and
countrysides—they laid the sick in the marketplaces and
begged Him just to let them touch the
fringe of His
cloak. And all who touched Him were
healed.
And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an
hedge about it, and
digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far
country.
Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a
vineyard. He put a wall around it,
dug a wine
vat, and built a
watchtower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
And they
compel one Simon a
Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the
country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
Now Simon of
Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the
country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
After this, Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them as they walked along in the country.

country with
haste, into a city of Juda;

All their neighbors were filled with
awe, and people throughout the hill
country of
Judea were talking about these events.
And there were in the same
country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of
repentance for the remission of sins;

When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and
countryside.
Then the whole multitude of the
country of the Gadarenes round about
besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to depart from them, because great fear had taken hold of them. So He got into the boat and started back.
And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and
country round about, and
lodge, and get
victuals: for we are here in a desert place.

countryside for
lodging and provisions. For we are in a
desolate place here.”
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far

Then let them which are in Judaea
flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter
thereinto.
Then let those who are in
Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the
country stay out of the city.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a
Cyrenian, coming out of the
country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
As the soldiers led Him away, they seized Simon of
Cyrene on his way in from the
country, and put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he
tarried with them, and
baptized.
For Jesus himself
testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own
country.
Now He Himself had
testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
As a result, Jesus no longer went about publicly among the Jews, but He withdrew to a town called Ephraim in an area near the wilderness. And He stayed there with the disciples.
And the Jews’
passover was
nigh at hand: and many went out of the

purify themselves before the
Passover.

country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall
shew thee.
and told him, ‘Leave your country and your kindred and go to the land I will show you.’
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and
Sidon: but they came with one
accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their
country was
nourished by the king’s
country.
Now Herod was in a
furious dispute with the people of Tyre and
Sidon, and they
convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s
chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s
country for food.
Which was with the deputy of the
country,
Sergius Paulus, a
prudent man; who called for
Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the
country of
Galatia and Phrygia in order,
strengthening all the disciples.
After Paul had spent some time in Antioch, he traveled from place to place throughout the region of
Galatia and Phrygia,
strengthening all the disciples.
But when the
fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in
Adria, about
midnight the
shipmen deemed that they drew near to some
country;
On the
fourteenth night we were still being driven across the
Adriatic Sea. About
midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land.
Salute Andronicus and Junia, my
kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow
countrymen and fellow prisoners. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.
Timothy, my fellow worker, sends you greetings, as do
Lucius,
Jason, and Sosipater, my fellow
countrymen.
In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from
bandits, in danger from my
countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the
country, in danger on the sea and among false brothers,
For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in
Judea that are in Christ Jesus. You suffered from your own
countrymen the very things they suffered from the Jews,
By faith he
sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange
country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Now those who say such things show that they are seeking a country of their own.
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.
But now they desire a better
country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Instead, they were longing for a better
country, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
A man leaveth his own father that brought him up, and his own country, and cleaveth unto his wife.
He sticketh not to
spend his life with his wife. and remembereth neither father, nor mother, nor
country.
And that all the country which they hold should be free without tribute; and that the Edomites should give over the villages of the Jews which then they held:
And so dwelt the priests and the Levites and the people in Jerusalem, and in the
country, the singers also and the
porters; and all Israel in their villages.
Let all things be known unto our lord the king, that being come into the
country of
Judea, and entered into the city of Jerusalem we found in the city of Jerusalem the ancients of the Jews that were of the captivity
But in the first year that king Cyrus reigned over the country of Babylon Cyrus the king wrote to build up this house.
Then commanded king
Darius to seek among the records at Babylon: and so at Ecbatane the palace, which is in the
country of Media, there was found a roll wherein these things were recorded.
Whose height shall be sixty cubits and the breadth sixty cubits, with three rows of
hewn stones, and one row of new wood of that
country; and the expences thereof to be given out of the house of king Cyrus:
