And the LORD said, I will
destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the
creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
So the LORD said, “I will
blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—every man and beast and
crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am
grieved that I have made them.”
And God said unto
Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will
destroy them with the earth.
Then God said to
Noah, “The end of all living creatures has come before Me, because through them the earth is full of violence. Now behold, I will
destroy both them and the earth.
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
For seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the earth every living thing I have made.”
And every living substance was
destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the
creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were
destroyed from the earth: and
Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
And every living thing on the face of the earth was
destroyed—man and
livestock,
crawling creatures and birds of the air; they were
blotted out from the earth, and only
Noah and those with him in the ark remained.
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again
curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again
smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
When the LORD smelled the pleasing
aroma, He said in His heart, “Never again will I
curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth. And never again will I
destroy all living creatures as I have done.
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and
beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD
destroyed Sodom and
Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD
destroyed Sodom and
Gomorrah.)
And Abraham drew near, and said,
Wilt thou also
destroy the righteous with the wicked?
Abraham
stepped forward and said, “Will You really
sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city:
wilt thou also
destroy and not
spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
What if there are fifty righteous ones in the city? Will You really
sweep it away and not
spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous ones who are there?
Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous:
wilt thou
destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not
destroy it.
suppose the fifty righteous ones lack five. Will You destroy the whole city for the lack of five?” He replied, “If I find forty-five there, I will not destroy it.”
And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord:
Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not
destroy it for twenty’s sake.
And Abraham said, “Now that I have
ventured to speak to the Lord, suppose twenty are found there?” He answered, “On account of the twenty, I will not
destroy it.”
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be
angry, and I will speak yet but this once:
Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not
destroy it for ten’s sake.
Finally, Abraham said, “May the Lord not be
angry, but let me speak once more. Suppose ten are found there?” And He answered, “On account of the ten, I will not
destroy it.”
For we will
destroy this place, because the cry of them is
waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to
destroy it.
because we are about to destroy this place. For the outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that He has sent us to destroy it.”
And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will
destroy this city. But he seemed as one that
mocked unto his sons in law.
So Lot went out and spoke to the sons-in-law who were
pledged in marriage to his daughters. “Get up,” he said. “Get out of this place, for the LORD is about to
destroy the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was
joking.
And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
Thus He destroyed these cities and the entire plain, including all the inhabitants of the cities and everything that grew on the ground.
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
So when God
destroyed the cities of the plain, He remembered Abraham, and He brought Lot out of the
catastrophe that
destroyed the cities where he had lived.
But
Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord,
wilt thou
slay also a righteous nation?
Now
Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You
destroy a nation even though it is innocent?
And Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to
stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the
Canaanites and the
Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and
slay me; and I shall be
destroyed, I and my house.
Then Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble upon me by making me a
stench to the
Canaanites and
Perizzites, the people of this land. We are few in number; if they unite against me and attack me, I and my household will be
destroyed.”
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And the flax and the barley was
smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was
bolled.
(Now the flax and barley were
destroyed, since the barley was ripe and the flax was in
bloom;
But the wheat and the
rie were not
smitten: for they were not grown up.
but the wheat and
spelt were not
destroyed, because they are late crops.)
And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a
snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is
destroyed?
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a
snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet
realize that Egypt is in ruins?”
And the blood shall be to you for a
token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to
destroy you, when I
smite the land of Egypt.
The blood on the houses where you are staying will distinguish them; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
For the LORD will pass through to
smite the Egyptians; and when he
seeth the blood upon the
lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the
destroyer to come in unto your houses to
smite you.
When the LORD passes through to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that
doorway; so He will not allow the
destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the
spoil; my
lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall
destroy them.
The enemy declared, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake. I will divide the spoils; I will
gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword; my hand will
destroy them.’
He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.
If
anyone sacrifices to any god other than the LORD alone, he must be set apart for destruction.
I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
I will send My terror
ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you
encounter. I will make all your enemies turn and run.
Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I
consume thee in the way.
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and
consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
For the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a single moment, I would
destroy you. Now take off your
jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:
Rather, you must
tear down their altars,
smash their sacred stones, and
chop down their Asherah poles.
And
whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I
destroy from among his people.
I will
destroy from among his people
anyone who does any work on this day.
I also will do this unto you; I will even
appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning
ague, that shall
consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall
sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting disease, and fever that will
destroy your sight and
drain your life. You will
sow your seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall
rob you of your children, and
destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be
desolate.
I will send wild animals against you to
rob you of your children,
destroy your
livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie
desolate.
And I will
destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall
abhor you.
I will
destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and
heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless remains of your idols; and My soul will
despise you.
And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I
abhor them, to
destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not
reject or
despise them so as to
destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
I will strike them with a plague and destroy them—and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are.”
And Israel
vowed a
vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou
wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly
destroy their cities.
So Israel made a
vow to the LORD: “If You will deliver this people into our hands, we will
devote their cities to destruction.”
And the LORD
hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the
Canaanites; and they utterly
destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
And the LORD heard Israel’s
plea and delivered up the
Canaanites. Israel devoted them and their cities to destruction; so they named the place Hormah.
Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of
Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the
Amorites.
Woe to you, O Moab! You are
destroyed, O people of
Chemosh! He gave up his sons as refugees, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon king of the
Amorites.
We have shot at them;
Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
But we have overthrown them;
Heshbon is
destroyed as far as Dibon. We
demolished them as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.”
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not
nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a
Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall
smite the corners of Moab, and
destroy all the children of
Sheth.
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come forth from Jacob, and a
scepter will arise from Israel. He will
crush the skulls of Moab and strike down all the sons of
Sheth.
Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
A ruler will come from Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.”
Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away
captive.
Yet
Kain will be
destroyed when Asshur takes you
captive.”
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”
Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and
destroy all their pictures, and
destroy all their
molten images, and quite
pluck down all their high places:
you must drive out before you all the inhabitants of the land,
destroy all their carved images and cast idols, and
demolish all their high places.
And ye
murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD
hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites, to
destroy us.
You grumbled in your tents and said, “Because the LORD hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites to be
annihilated.
And the
Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and
chased you, as bees do, and
destroyed you in
Seir, even unto Hormah.
Then the
Amorites who lived in the hills came out against you and
chased you like a
swarm of bees. They routed you from
Seir all the way to Hormah.
The Horims also dwelt in
Seir beforetime; but the children of
Esau succeeded them, when they had
destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their
stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
The Horites used to live in
Seir, but the descendants of
Esau drove them out. They
destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to
eliminate them from the camp, until they had all perished.
A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD
destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their
stead:
They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD
destroyed them from before the
Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
As he did to the children of
Esau, which dwelt in
Seir, when he
destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their
stead even unto this day:
just as He had done for the descendants of
Esau who lived in
Seir, when He
destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
And the
Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor,
destroyed them, and dwelt in their
stead.)
And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as
Gaza, were
destroyed by the Caphtorites, who came out of Caphtor and settled in their place.)
And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
At that time we captured all his cities and devoted to destruction the people of every city, including women and children. We left no survivors.
And we utterly
destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of
Heshbon, utterly
destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
We devoted them to destruction, as we had done to Sihon king of
Heshbon, utterly
destroying the men, women, and children of every city.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of
Baal-peor: for all the men that followed
Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath
destroyed them from among you.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at
Baal-peor, for the LORD your God
destroyed from among you all who followed
Baal of Peor.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land
whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not
prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be
destroyed.
I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live long upon it, but will be utterly destroyed.
(For the LORD thy God is a
merciful God;) he will not
forsake thee, neither
destroy thee, nor
forget the covenant of thy fathers which he
sware unto them.
For the LORD your God is a
merciful God; He will not
abandon you or
destroy you or
forget the covenant with your fathers, which He
swore to them by oath.
(For the LORD thy God is a
jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be
kindled against thee, and
destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
For the LORD your God, who is among you, is a
jealous God. Otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be
kindled against you, and He will
wipe you off the face of the earth.
And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt
smite them, and utterly
destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor
shew mercy unto them:
and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you to defeat them, then you must
devote them to complete destruction. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and
destroy thee suddenly.
because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.
But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall
destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their
graven images with fire.
Instead, this is what you are to do to them:
tear down their altars,
smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their idols in the fire.
And repayeth them that
hate him to their face, to
destroy them: he will not be
slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
But those who
hate Him He repays to their faces with destruction; He will not
hesitate to repay to his face the one who hates Him.
And thou shalt
consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no
pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a
snare unto thee.
You must
destroy all the peoples the LORD your God will deliver to you. Do not look on them with
pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a
snare to you.
Moreover the LORD thy God will send the
hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be
destroyed.
Moreover, the LORD your God will send the
hornet against them until even the survivors hiding from you have perished.
But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
But the LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
He will hand their kings over to you, and you will
wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will
annihilate them.
As the nations which the LORD
destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be
obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
Like the nations that the LORD has destroyed before you, so you will perish if you do not obey the LORD your God.
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a
consuming fire he shall
destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and
destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.
But understand that
today the LORD your God goes across
ahead of you as a
consuming fire; He will
destroy them and
subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and
annihilate them swiftly, as the LORD has promised you.
Also in
Horeb ye
provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was
angry with you to have
destroyed you.
Let me alone, that I may
destroy them, and
blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Leave Me alone, so that I may
destroy them and
blot out their name from under heaven. Then I will make you into a nation mightier and greater than they are.”
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure,
wherewith the LORD was
wroth against you to
destroy you. But the LORD
hearkened unto me at that time also.
For I was afraid of the anger and wrath that the LORD had directed against you, enough to
destroy you. But the LORD
listened to me this time as well.
And the LORD was very
angry with Aaron to have
destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
The LORD was
angry enough with Aaron to
destroy him, but at that time I also prayed for Aaron.
Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
So I fell down before the LORD for forty days and forty nights, because the LORD had said He would destroy you.
I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
And I prayed to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You redeemed through Your greatness and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD
hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not
destroy thee.
I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, like the first time, and that time the LORD again
listened to me and agreed not to
destroy you.
And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their
chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD hath
destroyed them unto this day;
what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and
chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea
engulf them as they pursued you, and how He
destroyed them completely, even to this day;
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
Destroy completely all the places where the nations you are dispossessing have served their gods—
atop the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall
hew down the
graven images of their gods, and
destroy the names of them out of that place.
Tear down their altars,
smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah poles, cut down the idols of their gods, and
wipe out their names from every place.
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be
destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
Thou shalt surely
smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword,
destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
you must surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword.
Devote to destruction all its people and
livestock.
When thou shalt
besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not
destroy the trees thereof by forcing an
axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
When you lay siege to a city for an extended time while fighting against it to capture it, you must not
destroy its trees by putting an
axe to them, because you can eat their fruit. You must not cut them down. Are the trees of the field human, that you should
besiege them?
Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.
But you may
destroy the trees that you know do not produce fruit. Use them to build siege works against the city that is
waging war against you, until it falls.
The LORD shall send upon thee
cursing,
vexation, and
rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be
destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast
forsaken me.
The LORD will send curses upon you, confusion and reproof in all to which you put your hand, until you are
destroyed and quickly perish because of the wickedness you have committed in
forsaking Him.
The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The LORD will turn the rain of your land into dust and powder; it will descend on you from the sky until you are destroyed.
Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
All these curses will come upon you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, since you did not obey the LORD your God and keep the commandments and statutes He gave you.
Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in
thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have
destroyed thee.
you will serve your enemies the LORD will send against you in famine,
thirst, nakedness, and
destitution. He will place an iron yoke on your neck until He has
destroyed you.
And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be
destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy
kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have
destroyed thee.
They will eat the offspring of your
livestock and the produce of your land until you are
destroyed. They will leave you no grain or new wine or oil, no
calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks, until they have caused you to perish.
Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The LORD will also bring upon you every sickness and plague not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed.
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD
rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will
rejoice over you to
destroy you, and to bring you to
nought; and ye shall be
plucked from off the land
whither thou goest to possess it.
Just as it pleased the LORD to make you
prosper and multiply, so also it will please Him to
annihilate you and
destroy you. And you will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.
The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
The LORD your God Himself will cross over
ahead of you. He will
destroy these nations before you, and you will dispossess them. Joshua will cross
ahead of you, as the LORD has said.
And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to
Og, kings of the
Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he
destroyed.
And the LORD will do to them as He did to Sihon and
Og, the kings of the
Amorites, when He
destroyed them along with their land.
The sword without, and terror within, shall
destroy both the young man and the virgin, the
suckling also with the man of gray hairs.
Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, terror will strike the young man and the young woman, the infant and the gray-haired man.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say,
Destroy them.
The eternal God is your dwelling place, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms. He drives out the enemy before you, giving the command, ‘
Destroy him!’
For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the
Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and
Og, whom ye utterly
destroyed.
For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and
Og, the two kings of the
Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction.
And they utterly
destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and
ass, with the edge of the sword.
At the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, oxen, sheep, and
donkeys.
And Joshua said,
Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites, to
destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
“O, Lord GOD,” Joshua said, “why did You ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites to be
destroyed? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were
accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye
destroy the
accursed from among you.
This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They will turn their backs and run from their enemies, because they themselves have been set apart for destruction. I will no longer be with you unless you remove from among you whatever is devoted to destruction.
