And every plant of the
field before it was in the earth, and every
herb of the
field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
Now no
shrub of the
field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the
field sprouted; for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to
cultivate the ground.
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the
field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and
whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
The man gave names to all the
livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the
field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
Now the serpent was more
subtil than any beast of the
field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman,
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Now the serpent was more
crafty than any beast of the
field that the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?’”
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art
cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the
field; upon thy
belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all
livestock and every beast of the
field! On your
belly will you go, and dust you will eat, all the days of your life.
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the
herb of the
field;
Both thorns and thistles it will yield for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
And
Cain talked with
Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the
field, that
Cain rose up against
Abel his brother, and
slew him.
Then
Cain said to his brother
Abel, “Let us go out to the
field.” And while they were in the
field,
Cain rose up against his brother
Abel and killed him.
That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
to sell me the cave of Machpelah that belongs to him; it is at the end of his field. Let him sell it to me in your presence for full price, so that I may have a burial site.”
Nay, my lord, hear me: the
field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee:
bury thy dead.
“No, my lord.
Listen to me. I give you the
field, and I give you the cave that is in it. I give it to you in the presence of my people.
Bury your dead.”
And he spake unto Ephron in the
audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou
wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the
field; take it of me, and I will
bury my dead there.
and said to Ephron in their presence, “If you will please
listen to me, I will pay you the price of the
field. Accept it from me, so that I may
bury my dead there.”
And the
field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before
Mamre, the
field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the
field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure

field at Machpelah near
Mamre, the cave that was in it, and all the trees within the boundaries of the
field were deeded over
And after this, Abraham buried
Sarah his wife in the cave of the
field of Machpelah before
Mamre: the same is
Hebron in the land of
Canaan.
After this, Abraham buried his wife
Sarah in the cave of the
field at Machpelah near
Mamre (that is,
Hebron) in the land of
Canaan.
And the
field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of
Heth.
So the
field and its cave were deeded by the
Hittites to Abraham as a burial site.
And Isaac went out to
meditate in the
field at the
eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
Early in the evening, Isaac went out to the
field to
meditate, and looking up, he saw the camels approaching.
For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the
field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a
vail, and covered herself.
and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the
field coming to meet us?” “It is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her
veil and covered herself.
And his sons Isaac and
Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the
field of Ephron the son of
Zohar the Hittite, which is before
Mamre;

Heth: there was Abraham buried, and
Sarah his wife.

Hittites. Abraham was buried there with his wife
Sarah.
And the boys grew: and
Esau was a
cunning hunter, a man of the
field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
When the boys grew up,
Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the
field, while Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy
quiver and thy bow, and go out to the
field, and take me some
venison;
Take your weapons—your
quiver and bow—and go out into the
field to
hunt some game for me.
And he came near, and
kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his
raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a
field which the LORD hath blessed:
So he came near and
kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothing, he blessed him and said: “
Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a
field that the LORD has blessed.
And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.
He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.
And
Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the
field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then
Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes.
Now during the wheat harvest,
Reuben went out and found some mandrakes in the
field. When he brought them to his mother,
Rachel begged Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”
And Jacob came out of the
field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have
hired thee with my son’s mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
When Jacob came in from the
field that evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come with me, for I have
hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he
slept with her that night.
And Jacob sent and called
Rachel and Leah to the
field unto his flock,
So Jacob sent word and called
Rachel and Leah to the
field where his flocks were,
And he bought a
parcel of a
field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor,
Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.
And the plot of ground where he pitched his tent, he purchased from the sons of Hamor,
Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver.
And Jacob heard that he had
defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the
field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
Jacob heard that
Shechem had
defiled his daughter Dinah, but since his sons were with his
livestock in the
field, he remained silent about it until they returned.
And the sons of Jacob came out of the
field when they heard it: and the men were
grieved, and they were very
wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
When Jacob’s sons heard what had happened, they returned from the
field. They were filled with grief and
fury, because
Shechem had committed an
outrage in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.
They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their
asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the
field,
They took their flocks and herds and
donkeys, and everything else in the city or in the
field.
And Husham died, and
Hadad the son of Bedad, who
smote Midian in the
field of Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated
Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith.
For, behold, we were binding
sheaves in the
field, and, lo, my
sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your
sheaves stood round about, and made
obeisance to my
sheaf.
We were binding
sheaves of grain in the
field, and suddenly my
sheaf rose and stood upright, while your
sheaves gathered around and bowed down to mine.”
And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
a man found him wandering in the field and asked, “What are you looking for?”
And it came to pass from the time that he had made him
overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the
field.
From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
During those seven years, Joseph collected all the excess food in the land of Egypt and stored it in the cities. In every city he laid up the food from the fields around it.
And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.
So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. The land became Pharaoh’s,
And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
At harvest time, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the
field and food for
yourselves and your households and children.”
And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people:
bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the
field of Ephron the Hittite,
Then Jacob
instructed them, “I am about to be gathered to my people.
Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the
field of Ephron the Hittite.
In the cave that is in the
field of Machpelah, which is before
Mamre, in the land of
Canaan, which Abraham bought with the
field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace.
The cave is in the
field of Machpelah near
Mamre, in the land of
Canaan. This is the
field Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.
The purchase of the
field and of the cave that is therein was from the children of
Heth.
The
field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the
Hittites.”
For his sons carried him into the land of
Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the
field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the
field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before
Mamre.
They carried him to the land of
Canaan and buried him in the cave at Machpelah in the
field near
Mamre, which Abraham had purchased from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.
And they made their lives bitter with hard
bondage, in
morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the
field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
and made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar, and with all kinds of work in the fields. Every service they imposed was harsh.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.
And the LORD did as Moses requested, and the frogs in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields died.
Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the
field, upon the horses, upon the
asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very
grievous murrain.
then the hand of the LORD will bring a severe plague on your
livestock in the
field—on your horses,
donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks.
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the
field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the
field, and shall not be brought home, the
hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
So give orders now to shelter your
livestock and everything you have in the
field. Every man or beast that remains in the
field and is not brought inside will die when the
hail comes down upon them.’”
And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
but those who disregarded the word of the LORD left their servants and
livestock in the
field.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be
hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every
herb of the
field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that
hail may fall on all the land of Egypt—on man and beast and every plant of the
field throughout the land of Egypt.”
And the
hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the
field, both man and beast; and the
hail smote every
herb of the
field, and
brake every tree of the
field.
Throughout the land of Egypt, the
hail struck down everything in the
field, both man and beast; it beat down every plant of the
field and
stripped every tree.
And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the
hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the
field:
They will cover the face of the land so that no one can see it. They will
devour whatever is left after the
hail and eat every tree that grows in your
fields.
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was
darkened; and they did eat every
herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the
hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the
field, through all the land of Egypt.
They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the
hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the
field.
If a man shall cause a
field or
vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s
field; of the best of his own
field, and of the best of his own
vineyard, shall he make
restitution.
If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the
field, be consumed
therewith; he that
kindled the fire shall surely make
restitution.
If a fire breaks out and spreads to thornbushes so that it consumes
stacked or standing grain, or the whole
field, the one who started the fire must make full
restitution.
And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is
torn of beasts in the
field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
You are to be My holy people. You must not eat the meat of a
mauled animal found in the
field; you are to throw it to the dogs.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the
field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the
field and the wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.
You are also to keep the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the produce from what you
sow in the
field. And keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your produce from the
field.
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become
desolate, and the beast of the
field multiply against thee.
I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become
desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.
And he shall
sprinkle upon him that is to be
cleansed from the
leprosy seven times, and shall
pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open
field.
Seven times he shall
sprinkle the one to be
cleansed of the skin disease. Then he shall
pronounce him clean and release the live bird into the open
field.
But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open
fields, and make an
atonement for the house: and it shall be clean.
Finally, he is to release the live bird into the open
fields outside the city. In this way he will make
atonement for the house, and it will be clean.
To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.
For this reason the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they have been offering in the open fields. They are to bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and offer them as sacrifices of peace to the LORD.
And when ye
reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly
reap the corners of thy
field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.
When you
reap the harvest of your land, you are not to
reap to the very edges of your
field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle
gender with a
diverse kind: thou shalt not
sow thy
field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.
You are to keep My statutes. You shall not
crossbreed two different kinds of
livestock; you shall not
sow your
fields with two kinds of seed; and you shall not wear clothing made of two kinds of material.
And when ye
reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean
riddance of the corners of thy
field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any
gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
When you
reap the harvest of your land, do not
reap all the way to the edges of your
field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the foreign resident. I am the LORD your God.’”
Six years thou shalt
sow thy
field, and six years thou shalt
prune thy
vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;
For six years you may
sow your
field and
prune your
vineyard and gather its crops.
But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither
sow thy
field, nor
prune thy
vineyard.
But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land—a Sabbath to the LORD. You are not to
sow your
field or
prune your
vineyard.
For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
For it is a
Jubilee; it shall be holy to you. You may eat only the crops taken directly from the
field.
But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile.
But houses in villages with no walls around them are to be considered as open
fields. They may be redeemed, and they shall be released in the
Jubilee.
But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.
But the open pastureland around their cities may not be sold, for this is their permanent possession.
Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
I will give you rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
And if a man shall
sanctify unto the LORD some part of a
field of his possession, then thy
estimation shall be according to the seed thereof: an homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
If a man consecrates to the LORD a
parcel of his land, then your
valuation shall be proportional to the seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver for every homer of barley seed.
If he
sanctify his
field from the year of jubile, according to thy
estimation it shall stand.
If he consecrates his
field during the Year of
Jubilee, the price will stand according to your
valuation.
But if he
sanctify his
field after the jubile, then the priest shall
reckon unto him the money according to the years that remain, even unto the year of the jubile, and it shall be
abated from thy
estimation.
But if he consecrates his
field after the
Jubilee, the priest is to
calculate the price in proportion to the years left until the next Year of
Jubilee, so that your
valuation will be reduced.
And if he that
sanctified the
field will in any wise
redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy
estimation unto it, and it shall be
assured to him.
And if the one who consecrated the
field decides to
redeem it, he must add a fifth to the
assessed value, and it shall belong to him.
And if he will not
redeem the
field, or if he have sold the
field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more.
If, however, he does not
redeem the
field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.
But the field, when it goeth out in the jubile, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest’s.
When the
field is released in the
Jubilee, it will become holy, like a
field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.
And if a man
sanctify unto the LORD a
field which he hath bought, which is not of the
fields of his possession;
Now if a man consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not a part of his own property,
In the year of the jubile the field shall return unto him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land did belong.
In the Year of
Jubilee the
field shall return to the one from whom it was bought—the original owner of the land.
Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall
devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the
field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD.
Nothing that a man sets apart to the LORD from all he owns—whether a man, an animal, or his inherited land—can be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD.
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of
fields and vineyards:
wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of
fields and vineyards. Will you
gouge out the eyes of these men? No, we will not come!”
And
whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open
fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
Anyone in the open
field who touches someone who has been killed by the sword or has died of natural causes, or
anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
Please let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any
field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway; we will not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”
Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
“Let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any
field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway until we have passed through your territory.”
And Moab said unto the elders of
Midian, Now shall this company
lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the
field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
So the Moabites said to the elders of
Midian, “This
horde will
devour everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the
field.” Since Balak son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time,
And the
ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the
ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the
field: and
Balaam smote the
ass, to turn her into the way.
When the
donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into a
field. So
Balaam beat her to return her to the path.
And he brought him into the
field of Zophim, to the top of
Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a
bullock and a ram on every altar.
So Balak took him to the
field of Zophim, to the top of
Pisgah, where he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou
covet thy neighbour’s house, his
field, or his
manservant, or his
maidservant, his ox, or his
ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not
consume them at once, lest the beasts of the
field increase upon thee.
The LORD your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be enabled to
eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.
And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
And I will provide grass in the
fields for your
livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.
Thou shalt truly
tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the
field bringeth forth year by year.
You must be sure to set aside a tenth of all the produce brought forth each year from your fields.
When thou shalt
besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an
axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the
field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
When you lay siege to a city for an extended time while fighting against it to capture it, you must not destroy its trees by putting an
axe to them, because you can eat their fruit. You must not cut them down. Are the trees of the
field human, that you should
besiege them?
If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:
If one is found slain, lying in a field in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess, and it is not known who killed him,
But if a man find a
betrothed damsel in the
field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
But if the man encounters a
betrothed woman in the open country, and he overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who has done this must die.
When he found her in the
field, the
betrothed woman
cried out, but there was no one to save her.
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy
field, and hast
forgot a
sheaf in the
field, thou shalt not go again to
fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
If you are harvesting in your
field and
forget a
sheaf there, do not go back to get it. It is to be left for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may
bless you in all the work of your hands.
Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.
Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and
cursed shalt thou be in the
field.
Thou shalt carry much seed out into the
field, and shalt gather but little in; for the
