following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their
stubborn way.
But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and
stubborn ways.

followed him down and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, and did not allow
anyone to cross over.

Barak, “Arise, for this is the day that the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone before you?” So
Barak came down from Mount
Tabor with ten thousand men
following him.

loaves of bread unto the people that
follow me; for they be

Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to
follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

Ruth replied: “Do not
urge me to leave you or to turn from
following you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.
Let thine eyes be on the field that they do
reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art
athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
Let your eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and
follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the young men not to touch you. And when you are
thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.”
And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

And the
kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the
highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.
And the cows headed straight up the road toward Beth-shemesh, staying on that one
highway and lowing as they went, never
straying to the right or to the left. The rulers of the Philistines

If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not
rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue
following the LORD your God:

rebel against the command of the LORD, and if both you and the king who reigns over you
follow the LORD your God, then all will be well.

Gad and
Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in
Gilgal, and all the people
followed him
trembling.

Gilead. Saul, however, remained at
Gilgal, and all his troops were
quaking in fear.
And the men of the garrison answered
Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will
shew you a thing. And

Jonathan and his
armor-bearer, “Come on up, and we will teach you a
lesson!” “
Follow me,”
Jonathan told his
armor-bearer, “for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
And
Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before
Jonathan; and his armourbearer
slew after him.

Jonathan, and his
armor-bearer
followed and finished them off.

following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it

cried unto the LORD all night.

regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from
following Me and has not carried out My instructions.” And Samuel was distressed and
cried out to the LORD all that night.
And the three eldest sons of
Jesse went and
followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

Strap on your swords!” So David and all his men put on their swords, and about four hundred men
followed David, while two hundred stayed with the supplies.

followed David’s messengers and became his wife.

And David came to the two hundred men, which were so
faint that they could not
follow David, whom they had made also to
abide at the
brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he
saluted them.
When David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to
follow him from the
Brook of Besor, they came out to meet him and the troops with him. As David approached the men, he
greeted them,
And the Philistines
followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines
slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchi-shua, Saul’s sons.

Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.

leaning on his
spear, with the
chariots and the cavalry closing in on him.
Ish-bosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah
followed David.

followed David.
And
Asahel pursued after
Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from
following Abner.
and he
chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.
And
Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But
Asahel would not turn aside from
following of him.
And
Abner said again to
Asahel, Turn thee aside from
following me: wherefore should I
smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to
Joab thy brother?
Then
Abner called to
Joab, and said, Shall the sword
devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then,
ere thou
bid the people return from
following their brethren?
Then
Abner called out to
Joab: “Must the sword
devour forever? Do you not
realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”
And
Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from
following his brother.
“As surely as God lives,”
Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers until morning.”
And
Joab returned from
following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants
nineteen men and
Asahel.
When
Joab returned from pursuing
Abner, he gathered all the troops. In addition to
Asahel,
nineteen of David’s servants were missing,
And her husband went with her along
weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said
Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.
Her husband
followed her,
weeping all the way to Bahurim. Then
Abner said to him, “Go back.” So he returned home.
And David said to
Joab, and to all the people that were with him,
Rend your clothes, and
gird you with
sackcloth, and
mourn before
Abner. And king David himself
followed the
bier.
Then David ordered
Joab and all the people with him, “
Tear your clothes, put on
sackcloth, and
mourn before
Abner.” And King David himself walked behind the funeral
bier.
Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, from
following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there
followed him a
mess of meat from the king.
Then he said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king followed him.
And
Absalom sent for
Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the
conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with
Absalom.
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
Then the king set out, and his entire household followed him. But he left behind ten concubines to take care of the palace.
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and
tarried in a place that was far off.
So the king set out with all the people following him. He stopped at the last house,
And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from
Gath, passed on before the king.
and all his servants marched past him—all the Cherethites and Pelethites, and six hundred Gittites who had
followed him from
Gath.
Behold, he is
hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that
whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that
follow Absalom.
Surely by now he is hiding in a cave or some other
location. If some of your troops fall first,
whoever hears of it will say, ‘There has been a slaughter among the troops who
follow Absalom.’
And when
Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not
followed, he
saddled his
ass, and arose, and
gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and
hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the
sepulchre of his father.
When
Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been
followed, he
saddled his
donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his affairs in order and
hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.
So every man of Israel went up from after David, and
followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah
clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.
So all the men of Israel deserted David to
follow Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
And one of
Joab’s men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth
Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after
Joab.
And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto
Abel, and to Beth-maachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to
Abel-beth-
maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and
followed him.
And he conferred with
Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with
Abiathar the priest: and they
following Adonijah helped him.
So Adonijah conferred with
Joab son of Zeruiah and with
Abiathar the priest, who supported him.
And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and
rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
All the people
followed him, playing flutes and
rejoicing with such a great joy that the earth was split by the sound.
But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:
But if indeed you or your sons turn away from following Me and do not keep the commandments and statutes I have set before you, and if you go off to serve and worship other gods,
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely.
And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
Although He had
warned Solomon
explicitly not to
follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command.
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that
followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah
followed the house of David.
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and
followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.
For his sins which he
sinned in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of
Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.
because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD and
following the example of
Jeroboam and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.
Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.
At that time the people of Israel were divided: Half of the people supported Tibni son of Ginath as king, and half supported Omri.
But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath: so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.
But the followers of Omri proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.
And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have
forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast
followed Baalim.
“I have not troubled Israel,”
Elijah replied, “but you and your father’s house have, for you have
forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have
followed the Baals.
And
Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long
halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God,
follow him: but if
Baal, then
follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
Then
Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God,
follow Him. But if
Baal is God,
follow him.” But the people did not answer a word.
And he left the oxen, and ran after
Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee,
kiss my father and my mother, and then I will
follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
So
Elisha left the oxen, ran after
Elijah, and said, “Please let me
kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will
follow you.” “Go on back,”
Elijah replied, “for what have I done to you?”
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and
slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after
Elijah, and ministered unto him.
So
Elisha turned back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s
equipment, he
cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they
ate. Then he set out to
follow and serve
Elijah.
And Ben-
hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that
follow me.
Then Ben-
hadad sent another message to
Ahab: “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if enough dust remains of Samaria for each of my men to have a handful.”
So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
Meanwhile, these young officers of the district governors marched out of the city, with the army behind them,
And he did very
abominably in
following idols, according to all things as did the
Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
He committed the most
detestable acts by going after idols, just like the
Amorites whom the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.)
So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of
Edom: and they
fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that
followed them.
So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of
Edom set out, and after they had traveled a
roundabout route for seven days, they had no water for their army or for their animals.
And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
And the mother of the boy said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not leave you.” So he got up and
followed her.
So Gehazi
followed after
Naaman. And when
Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the
chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?
So Gehazi pursued
Naaman. And when
Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the
chariot to meet him and asked, “Is everything all right?”
And
Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city:
follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
And
Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city.
Follow me, and I will take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria.
But when
Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And
Jehu followed after him, and said,
Smite him also in the
chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to
Megiddo, and died there.
When King
Ahaziah of Judah saw this, he fled up the road toward Beth-haggan. And
Jehu pursued him,
shouting, “Shoot him too!” So they shot
Ahaziah in his
chariot on the
Ascent of Gur, near Ibleam, and he fled to
Megiddo and died there.
But
Jehu took no
heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
Yet
Jehu was not careful to
follow the instruction of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest ordered the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword
anyone who
follows her.” For the priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the house of the LORD.”
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and
followed the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not
therefrom.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and
followed the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from them.
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his
testimonies which he
testified against them; and they
followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and themselves became worthless, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to
imitate.
For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made
Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and
Jeroboam drave Israel from
following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.
When the LORD had
torn Israel away from the house of David, they made
Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and
Jeroboam led Israel away from
following the LORD and caused them to commit a great sin.
For he
clave to the LORD, and departed not from
following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
He remained faithful to the LORD and did not turn from following Him; he kept the commandments that the LORD had given Moses.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And the king stood by a
pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his
testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to
follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant.
Unto the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half tribe of
Manasseh, Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, and
Ashtaroth with her suburbs:
The Gershomites received the
following: From the clan of the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan and also
Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands.
Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of
Zebulun.
Rimmon with her suburbs,
Tabor with her suburbs:
The Merarites (the rest of the Levites) received the
following: From the tribe of
Zebulun they were given Rimmono and
Tabor, together with their pasturelands.
And the Philistines
followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines
slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
The Philistines
followed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons
Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, even from
following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully
follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of
Asaph, and of Heman, and of
Jeduthun, who should
prophesy with harps, with
psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
Additionally, David and the commanders of the army set apart some of the sons of
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun to
prophesy with the
accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. The
following is the list of the men who performed this service:
And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of
Ahab king of Israel to war against
Hazael king of Syria at
Ramoth-
gilead: and the Syrians
smote Joram.
Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and
whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said,
Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the priest sent out the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, saying, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword

Now after the time that
Amaziah did turn away from
following the LORD they made a
conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to
Lachish: but they sent to
Lachish after him, and
slew him there.

defiled the house of the LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
