And
from thence they went to Beer: that is the well
whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
From there they went on to Beer, the well where the LORD said to Moses, “Gather the people so that I may give them water.”
The princes
digged the well, the nobles of the people
digged it, by the direction of the
lawgiver, with their
staves. And
from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
The princes
dug the well; the nobles of the people hollowed it out with their scepters and with their staffs.”
From the wilderness the Israelites went on to Mattanah,
And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
and from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth,
And
from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of
Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
and
from Bamoth to the valley in Moab where the top of
Pisgah overlooks the wasteland.
Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
“Let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any field or
vineyard, or drink water
from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway until we have passed through your territory.”
And Israel
smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land
from Arnon unto
Jabbok, even unto the children of
Ammon: for the border of the children of
Ammon was strong.
And Israel put him to the sword and took possession of his land,
from the
Arnon to the
Jabbok—but only up to the border of the
Ammonites, because it was fortified.
For there is a fire gone out of
Heshbon, a flame
from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of
Arnon.
For a fire went out
from Heshbon, a
blaze from the city of Sihon. It consumed Ar of Moab, the rulers of
Arnon’s heights.
And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by
Jericho.
Then the Israelites traveled on and camped in the plains of Moab near the Jordan, across
from Jericho.
He sent messengers therefore unto
Balaam the son of Beor to
Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out
from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they
abide over against me:
he sent messengers to
Balaam son of Beor at
Pethor, which is by the Euphrates in the land of his people. “Behold, a people has come out of Egypt,” said Balak. “They cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.
And they came to
Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee
from coming unto me:
They came to
Balaam and said, “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: ‘Please let nothing hinder you
from coming to me,
And the
ass saw me, and turned
from me these three times: unless she had turned
from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
The
donkey saw me and turned away
from me these three times. If she had not turned away, then by now I would surely have killed you and let her live.”
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Balak took
Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of
Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
The next morning, Balak took
Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-
baal.
From there he could see the outskirts of the camp of the people.
And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me
from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come,
curse me Jacob, and come,
defy Israel.
And
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Balak brought me
from Aram, the king of Moab
from the mountains of the east. ‘Come,’ he said, ‘put a
curse on Jacob for me; come and
denounce Israel!’
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
For I see them
from atop the rocky cliffs, and I watch them
from the hills. Behold, a people dwelling apart, not
reckoning themselves among the nations.
And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place,
from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and
curse me them
from thence.
Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the outskirts of their camp—not all of them. And
from there,
curse them for me.”
And Balak said unto
Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place;
peradventure it will please God that thou mayest
curse me them
from thence.
“Please come,” said Balak, “I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God that you
curse them for me
from there.”
He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having his eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision
from the
Almighty, who bows down with eyes wide open:
He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than
Agag, and his kingdom shall be
exalted.
Water will flow
from his buckets, and his seed will have abundant water. His king will be greater than
Agag, and his kingdom will be
exalted.
Therefore now
flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back
from honour.
Therefore,
flee at once to your home! I said I would richly reward you, but instead the LORD has denied your reward.”
He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having his eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge
from the Most High, who sees a vision
from the
Almighty, who bows down with eyes wide open:
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not
nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a
Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall
smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of
Sheth.
I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come forth
from Jacob, and a
scepter will arise
from Israel. He will
crush the skulls of Moab and strike down all the sons of
Sheth.
Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
A ruler will come from Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.”
And ships shall come
from the coast of
Chittim, and shall
afflict Asshur, and shall
afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
Ships will come
from the coasts of
Cyprus; they will
subdue Asshur and Eber, but they too will perish
forever.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and
hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away
from Israel.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and
execute them in broad
daylight before the LORD, so that His fierce anger may turn away
from Israel.”
And when
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up
from among the congregation, and took a
javelin in his hand;
On seeing this,
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, got up
from the assembly, took a
spear in his hand,
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her
belly. So the plague was stayed
from the children of Israel.
followed the
Israelite into his tent, and drove the
spear through both of them—through the
Israelite and on through the
belly of the woman. So the plague against the Israelites was
halted,
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away
from the children of Israel, while he was
zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
“
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned My wrath away
from the Israelites; for he was
zealous for My sake among them, so that I did not
consume the Israelites in My zeal.

Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.”
And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his
kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of
kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a

And a tenth part of an

But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then
whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall
forgive her.
But if her husband nullifies them on the day he hears of them, then nothing that came
from her lips, whether her vows or pledges, shall stand. Her husband has
nullified them, and the LORD will
absolve her.
But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.
But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he confirms all the vows and pledges that bind her. He has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard about them.
Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
Send into battle a thousand men from each tribe of Israel.”
So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
So a thousand men were
recruited from each tribe of Israel—twelve thousand armed for war.
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and
Phinehas the son of
Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the
trumpets to blow in his hand.
And Moses sent the thousand
from each tribe into battle, along with
Phinehas son of
Eleazar the priest, who took with him the vessels of the sanctuary and the
trumpets for signaling.
And they brought the
captives, and the prey, and the
spoil, unto Moses, and
Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near
Jericho.
They brought the
captives, spoils, and
plunder to Moses, to
Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of Israel at the camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across
from Jericho.
And Moses was
wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came
from the battle.
But Moses was
angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who were returning
from the battle.
And
levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the
beeves, and of the
asses, and of the sheep:
Set aside a tribute for the LORD
from what belongs to the soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, or sheep.
Take it of their half, and give it unto
Eleazar the priest, for an
heave offering of the LORD.
Take it
from their half and give it to
Eleazar the priest as an offering to the LORD.
And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the
beeves, of the
asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.
From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, sheep, or other animals, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”
And the
booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
and this
plunder remained
from the spoils the soldiers had taken: 675,000 sheep,
And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided
from the men that
warred,
From the Israelites’ half, which Moses had set apart from the men who had gone to war,
Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
From the Israelites’ half, Moses took one out of every fifty persons and animals and gave them to the Levites who kept charge of the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD had commanded him.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
So Moses and
Eleazar the priest received
from them all the articles made out of gold.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a
memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
And Moses and
Eleazar the priest received the gold
from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the Tent of Meeting as a
memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?
Why are you discouraging the Israelites from crossing into the land that the LORD has given them?
Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
This is what your fathers did when I sent them
from Kadesh-barnea to
inspect the land.
For when they went up unto the valley of
Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.
For when your fathers went up to the Valley of
Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the Israelites
from entering the land that the LORD had given them.
Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt,
from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
‘Because they did not follow Me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years of age or older who came out of Egypt will see the land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”
But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the
fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
But we will arm ourselves and be ready to go
ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them into their place. Meanwhile, our little ones will remain in the fortified cities for protection
from the inhabitants of the land.
And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
and if every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD, until He has driven His enemies out before Him,
