And Joshua made him sharp
knives, and
circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
And when the inhabitants of
Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto
Jericho and to
Ai,
But the people of
Gibeon, having heard what Joshua had done to
Jericho and
Ai,
And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a league with them, that they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt among them.
Three days after they had made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites learned that they were neighbors, living among them.
And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were
Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.
So the Israelites set out and on the third day arrived at their cities—
Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye
beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?
Then Joshua summoned the
Gibeonites and said, “Why did you
deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
The
Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land and
wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they
slew them not.
So Joshua did this and delivered them from the hands of the Israelites, and they did not kill the Gibeonites.
Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken
Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to
Jericho and her king, so he had done to
Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
Now Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured
Ai and devoted it to destruction—doing to
Ai and its king as he had done to
Jericho and its king—and that the people of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living near them.
That they feared greatly, because
Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than
Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.
So Adoni-zedek and his people were greatly
alarmed, because
Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities; it was larger than
Ai, and all its men were mighty.
Come up unto me, and help me, that we may
smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
“Come up and help me. We will attack
Gibeon, because they have made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”
Therefore the five kings of the
Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of
Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of
Lachish, the king of
Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and
encamped before
Gibeon, and made war against it.
So the five kings of the
Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem,
Hebron, Jarmuth,
Lachish, and
Eglon—joined forces and advanced with all their armies. They camped before
Gibeon and made war against it.
And the men of
Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to
Gilgal, saying,
Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the
Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
Then the men of
Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at
Gilgal: “Do not
abandon your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, because all the kings of the
Amorites from the hill country have joined forces against us.”
And the LORD
discomfited them before Israel, and
slew them with a great slaughter at
Gibeon, and
chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and
smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
And the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great slaughter at
Gibeon, pursued them along the
ascent to Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the
Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon
Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
On the day that the LORD gave the
Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “O sun, stand still over
Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of
Aijalon.”
And Joshua
smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto
Gaza, and all the country of
Goshen, even unto
Gibeon.
Joshua conquered the area from Kadesh-barnea to
Gaza, and the whole region of
Goshen as far as
Gibeon.
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the
Hivites the inhabitants of
Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
No city made peace with the Israelites except the
Hivites living in
Gibeon; all others were taken in battle.
Cain,
Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages:
Kain,
Gibeah, and Timnah—ten cities, along with their villages.
And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.
Zelah, Haeleph,
Jebus (that is, Jerusalem),
Gibeah, and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities, along with their villages. This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
And out of the tribe of Benjamin,
Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,
And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them
Gibeon, Geba,
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that
pertained to
Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at
Gibeah, which had been given to his son
Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside
hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to
Gibeah.
But his master replied, “We will not turn aside to the city of foreigners, where there are no Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah.”
And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to
lodge all night, in
Gibeah, or in
Ramah.
He continued, “Come, let us try to reach one of these towns to
spend the night in
Gibeah or
Ramah.”
And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.
So they continued on their journey, and the sun set as they neared Gibeah in Benjamin.
And they turned aside thither, to go in and to
lodge in
Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to
lodging.
They stopped to go in and
lodge in
Gibeah. The
Levite went in and sat down in the city square, but no one would take them into his home for the night.
And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he
sojourned in
Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.
That evening an old man from the hill country of Ephraim, who was residing in Gibeah (the men of that place were Benjamites), came in from his work in the field.
And the
Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into
Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my
concubine, to
lodge.
So the
Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered: “I and my
concubine came to
Gibeah in Benjamin to
spend the night.
And the men of
Gibeah rose against me, and
beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my
concubine have they forced, that she is dead.
And during the night, the men of
Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house. They intended to kill me, but they
abused my
concubine, and she died.
But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it;
Now this is what we will do to Gibeah: We will go against it as the lot dictates.
And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to
fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to
Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to supply provisions for the army when they go to
Gibeah in Benjamin to
punish them for the
atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of
Belial, which are in
Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not
hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel:
Hand over the wicked men of
Gibeah so we can put them to death and
purge Israel of this evil.” But the Benjamites refused to
heed the voice of their fellow Israelites.
But the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
And from their cities they came together at Gibeah to go out and fight against the Israelites.
And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
On that day the Benjamites
mobilized 26,000
swordsmen from their cities, in addition to the 700 select men of
Gibeah.
And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and
encamped against
Gibeah.
The next morning the Israelites set out and camped near Gibeah.
And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in
array to fight against them at
Gibeah.
And the men of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin and took up their battle positions at Gibeah.
And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men.
And the Benjamites came out of Gibeah and cut down 22,000 Israelites on the battlefield that day.
And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
That same day the Benjamites came out against them from Gibeah and cut down another 18,000 Israelites, all of them armed with swords.
And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah.
So Israel set up an
ambush around
Gibeah.
And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in
array against
Gibeah, as at other times.
On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and
arrayed themselves against
Gibeah as they had done before.
And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to
smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the
highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to
Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
The Benjamites came out against them and were drawn away from the city. They began to attack the people as before, killing about thirty men of Israel in the fields and on the roads, one of which led up to
Bethel and the other to
Gibeah.
And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in
array at
Baal-tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of
Gibeah.
So all the men of Israel got up from their places and
arrayed themselves at
Baal-tamar, and the Israelites in
ambush charged from their positions west of
Gibeah.
And there came against
Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was
sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.
Then 10,000 select men from all Israel made a
frontal assault against
Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not
realize that
disaster was upon them.
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were
smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside
Gibeah.
Then the Benjamites realized they had been defeated. Now the men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin because they were relying on the
ambush they had set against
Gibeah.
And the liers in wait hasted, and
rushed upon
Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and
smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
The men in
ambush rushed suddenly against
Gibeah; they advanced and put the whole city to the sword.
Thus they inclosed the Benjamites round about, and
chased them, and
trode them down with ease over against
Gibeah toward the
sunrising.
They surrounded the Benjamites, pursued them, and easily overtook them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east.
After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a
psaltery, and a
tabret, and a pipe, and a
harp, before them; and they shall
prophesy:
After that you will come to
Gibeah of God, where the Philistines have an outpost. As you approach the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be
prophesying.
And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he
prophesied among them.
When Saul and his servant arrived at
Gibeah, a group of prophets met him. Then the Spirit of God
rushed upon him, and he
prophesied along with them.
And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
Saul also went to his home in
Gibeah, and the men of
valor whose hearts God had touched went with him.
Then came the messengers to
Gibeah of Saul, and told the
tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and
wept.
When the messengers came to
Gibeah of Saul and relayed these words in the hearing of the people, they all
wept aloud.
Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel;
whereof two thousand were with Saul in
Michmash and in mount
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in
Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
He chose for himself three thousand men of Israel: Two thousand were with Saul at
Michmash and in the hill country of
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in
Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the troops he sent away, each to his own home.
And Samuel arose, and
gat him up from
Gilgal unto
Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
Then Samuel set out from
Gilgal and went up to
Gibeah in Benjamin. And Saul numbered the troops who were with him, about six hundred men.
And Saul, and
Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in
Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines
encamped in
Michmash.
Now Saul and
Jonathan his son and the troops with them were staying in Geba of Benjamin, while the Philistines camped at
Michmash.
And Saul
tarried in the
uttermost part of
Gibeah under a
pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men;
Meanwhile, Saul was staying under the
pomegranate tree in Migron on the outskirts of
Gibeah. And the troops who were with him numbered about six hundred men,
One
cliff stood to the north toward
Michmash, and the other to the south toward Geba.
And the
watchmen of Saul in
Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.
Now when Saul’s
watchmen at
Gibeah in Benjamin looked and saw the troops melting away and
scattering in every direction,
Then Samuel went to
Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to
Gibeah of Saul.
Then Samuel went to
Ramah, but Saul went up to his home in
Gibeah of Saul.
When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in
Gibeah under a tree in
Ramah, having his
spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
Soon Saul learned that David and his men had been discovered. At that time Saul was in
Gibeah, sitting under the
tamarisk tree on the hill at
Gibeah, with his
spear in hand and all his servants standing around him.
Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to
Gibeah, saying,
Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah south of Jeshimon?
And the Ziphites came unto Saul to
Gibeah, saying,
Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding on the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?”
And
Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the
pool of
Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the
pool, and the other on the other side of the
pool.
So
Joab son of Zeruiah, along with the servants of David, marched out and met them by the
pool of
Gibeon. And the two camps took up positions on opposite sides of the
pool.
And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in
Gibeon.
Then each man
grabbed his
opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his
opponent’s side, and they all fell together. So this place, which is in
Gibeon, is called Helkath-hazzurim.
Joab also and
Abishai pursued after
Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of
Gibeon.
But
Joab and
Abishai pursued
Abner. By
sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of
Gibeon.
And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and
smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to
Gazer.
So David did as the LORD had commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from
Gibeon to
Gezer.
And they set the ark of God upon a new
cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in
Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab,
drave the new
cart.
They set the ark of God on a new
cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new
cart,
And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
bringing with it the ark of God. And Ahio was walking in front of the ark.
When they were at the great stone which is in
Gibeon,
Amasa went before them. And
Joab’s garment that he had put on was
girded unto him, and upon it a
girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the
sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.
Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his
bloody house, because he
slew the
Gibeonites.
During the reign of David there was a famine for three successive years, and David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, “It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family, because he killed the Gibeonites.”
And the king called the
Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the
Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the
remnant of the
Amorites; and the children of Israel had
sworn unto them: and Saul sought to
slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
At this, David summoned the
Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the
Gibeonites were not Israelites, but a
remnant of the
Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but in his zeal for Israel and Judah, Saul had sought to kill them.)
Wherefore David said unto the
Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and
wherewith shall I make the
atonement, that ye may
bless the inheritance of the LORD?
So David asked the
Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? How can I make
amends so that you may
bless the inheritance of the LORD?”
And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
The
Gibeonites said to him, “We need no silver or gold from Saul or his house, nor should you put to death
anyone in Israel for us.” “Whatever you ask, I will do for you,” he replied.
Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will
hang them up unto the LORD in
Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.
let seven of his male descendants be delivered to us so that we may
hang them before the LORD at
Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of the LORD.” “I will give them to you,” said the king.
And he delivered them into the hands of the
Gibeonites, and they
hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
And he delivered them into the hands of the
Gibeonites, and they
hanged them on the hill before the LORD. So all seven of them fell together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of the barley harvest.
Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,
Heled son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the Benjamites,
And the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
Now the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar there.
In
Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
One night at
Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “Ask, and I will give it to you!”
That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at
Gibeon.
the LORD appeared to him a second time, as He had appeared to him at
Gibeon.
She bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of
Gibea: and the daughter of
Caleb was Achsa.
She was also the mother of Shaaph father of Madmannah, and of Sheva father of Machbenah and
Gibea.
Caleb’s daughter was Acsah.
And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given
Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands. So they had thirteen cities in all among their families.
And at
Gibeon dwelt the father of
Gibeon; whose wife’s name was Maachah:
And in
Gibeon dwelt the father of
Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife’s name was Maachah:
Ithai the son of Ribai of
Gibeah, that
pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,
Ithai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the Benjamites, Benaiah the Pirathonite,
The chief was Ahiezer, then
Joash, the sons of Shemaah the
Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Berachah, and
Jehu the Antothite,
Ahiezer their chief and
Joash, who were the sons of Shemaah the
Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah;
Jehu the Anathothite;
And Ismaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Josabad the Gederathite,
Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the Thirty and a leader over the Thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite;
David therefore did as God commanded him: and they
smote the host of the Philistines from
Gibeon even to
Gazer.
So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from
Gibeon to
Gezer.
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in
Gibeon For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering were presently at the high place in
Gibeon,
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at
Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at
Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.
So Solomon went to Jerusalem from the high place in
Gibeon before the Tent of Meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of
Gibeah. And there was war between
Abijah and
Jeroboam.
and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Micaiah daughter of Uriel; she was from
Gibeah. And there was war between
Abijah and
Jeroboam.
And next unto them repaired Melatiah the
Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of
Gibeon, and of
Mizpah, unto the throne of the governor on this side the river.
Next to them, repairs were made by Melatiah the
Gibeonite, Jadon the Meronothite, and the men of
Gibeon and
Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor of the region west of the Euphrates.
the descendants of
Gibeon, 95;
They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their
lodging at Geba;
Ramah is afraid;
Gibeah of Saul is fled.
They have crossed at the
ford: “We will
spend the night at Geba.”
Ramah trembles;
Gibeah of Saul flees.
For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be
wroth as in the valley of
Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.
For the LORD will rise up as at Mount Perazim. He will
rouse Himself as in the Valley of
Gibeon, to do His work, His strange work, and to perform His task, His
disturbing task.
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
Then they took all the men, and went to fight with
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in
Gibeon.
they took all their men and went to fight
Ishmael son of Nethaniah. And they found him near the great
pool in
Gibeon.
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the
remnant of the people whom he had recovered from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from
Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from
Gibeon:
Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him took the whole
remnant of the people from
Mizpah whom he had recovered from
Ishmael son of Nethaniah after
Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam: the soldiers, women, children, and court officials he had brought back from
Gibeon.
