And let them be for lights in the
firmament of the heaven to
give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And let them serve as lights in the
expanse of the sky to
shine upon the earth.” And it was so.
And God set them in the
firmament of the heaven to
give light upon the earth,
God set these lights in the
expanse of the sky to
shine upon the earth,
And God said, Behold, I have
given you every
herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have
given every green
herb for meat: and it was so.
And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green
herb have I
given you all things.
Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things.

Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I
give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

give this land to your offspring.” So
Abram built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
for all the land that you see, I will
give to you and your offspring

Abram replied, “O Lord GOD, what can You
give me, since I remain childless, and the heir of my house is
Eliezer of Damascus?”
And
Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast
given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
Abram continued, “Behold, You have
given me no offspring, so a servant in my household will be my heir.”

give you this land to possess.”

given this land—from the river of Egypt to the great River Euphrates—
And Sarai said unto
Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have
given my
maid into thy
bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was
despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

Abram, “May the wrong done to me be upon you! I delivered my servant into your arms, and ever since she saw that she was
pregnant, she has treated me with contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me.”
And I will
give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of

Canaan—as an eternal possession; and I will be their God.”

bless her, and
give thee a son also of her:

bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

bless her and will surely
give you a son by her. I will
bless her, and she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”

laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall
Sarah, that is
ninety years old, bear?
Abraham fell facedown. Then he
laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can
Sarah give birth at the age of
ninety?”
And unto
Sarah he said, Behold, I have
given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
And he said to
Sarah, “See, I am giving your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is your
vindication before all who are with you; you are completely cleared.”
And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that
Sarah should have
given children
suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
She added, “Who would have told Abraham that
Sarah would
nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
I am a stranger and a
sojourner with you:
give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may
bury my dead out of my sight.
“I am a foreigner and an outsider among you.
Give me a burial site among you so that I can
bury my dead.”
That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
to sell me the cave of Machpelah that belongs to him; it is at the end of his field. Let him sell it to me in your presence for full price, so that I may have a burial site.”
Nay, my lord, hear me: the field
give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I
give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people
give I it thee:
bury thy dead.
“No, my lord.
Listen to me. I
give you the field, and I
give you the cave that is in it. I
give it to you in the presence of my people.
Bury your dead.”
And he spake unto Ephron in the
audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou
wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will
give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will
bury my dead there.
and said to Ephron in their presence, “If you will please
listen to me, I will pay you the price of the field. Accept it from me, so that I may
bury my dead there.”
The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that
sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I
give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
The LORD, the God of heaven, who brought me from my father’s house and my native land, who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you so that you can take a wife for my son from there.
And let it come to pass, that the
damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will
give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Now may it happen that the
girl to whom I say, ‘Please let down your
jar that I may drink,’ and who responds, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as well’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. By this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
After she had given him a drink, she said, “I will also draw water for your camels, until they have had enough to drink.”
And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath
given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and
asses.
“The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become rich. He has
given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, menservants and maidservants, camels and
donkeys.
And
Sarah my master’s wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he
given all that he hath.
My master’s wife
Sarah has borne him a son in her old age, and my master has
given him everything he owns.
Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.
And when you go to my kindred, if they refuse to give her to you, then you will be released from my oath.’
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
Here I am, standing beside this spring. Now if a
maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, ‘Please let me drink a little water from your
jar,’
And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold,
Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
And before I had finished praying in my heart, there was
Rebekah coming out with her
jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. So I said to her, ‘Please
give me a drink.’
And she made
haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will
give thy camels drink also: so I
drank, and she made the camels drink also.
She quickly lowered her
jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as well.’ So I
drank, and she also watered the camels.
And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will
bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will
give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I
sware unto Abraham thy father;
Stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and
bless you. For I will
give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will
confirm the oath that I
swore to your father Abraham.
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed,
And Isaac
digged again the wells of water, which they had
digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
Isaac reopened the wells that had been
dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. And he gave these wells the same names his father had
given them.
Therefore God
give thee of the
dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and
plenty of corn and wine:
May God
give to you the
dew of heaven and the richness of the earth— an abundance of grain and new wine.
And Isaac answered and said unto
Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I
given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
But Isaac answered
Esau: “Look, I have made him your master and
given him all his relatives as servants; I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What is left that I can do for you, my son?”
And
Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing
wherewith his father blessed him: and
Esau said in his heart, The days of
mourning for my father are at hand; then will I
slay my brother Jacob.
Esau held a
grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had
given him. And
Esau said in his heart, “The days of
mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
And
give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest
inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
And may He give the blessing of Abraham to you and your descendants, so that you may possess the land where you dwell as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”
And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land
whereon thou liest, to thee will I
give it, and to thy seed;
And there at the top the LORD was standing and saying, “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you now lie.
And Jacob
vowed a
vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will
give me bread to eat, and
raiment to put on,
Then Jacob made a
vow, saying, “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, and if He will provide me with food to eat and clothes to wear,
And this stone, which I have set for a
pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt
give me I will surely
give the tenth unto thee.
And this stone I have set up as a
pillar will be God’s house, and of all that You
give me I will surely
give You a tenth.”
And
Laban said, It is better that I
give her to thee, than that I should
give her to another man:
abide with me.
Laban replied, “Better that I
give her to you than to another. Stay here with me.”
And Jacob said unto
Laban,
Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.
Finally Jacob said to
Laban, “Grant me my wife, for my time is complete, and I want to sleep with her.”
And
Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to
give the younger before the
firstborn.
Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to
give the younger daughter in marriage before the older.
Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
Finish this week’s
celebration, and we will
give you the younger one in return for another seven years of work.”
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was
hated, he hath therefore
given me this son also: and she called his name
Simeon.
Again she conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has
given me this son as well.” So she named him
Simeon.
And when
Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children,
Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob,
Give me children, or else I die.
When
Rachel saw that she was not bearing any children for Jacob, she
envied her sister. “
Give me children, or I will die!” she said to Jacob.
And
Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath
given me a son: therefore called she his name
Dan.
And
Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then
Rachel said to Leah,
Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes.
Now during the wheat harvest,
Reuben went out and found some mandrakes in the field. When he brought them to his mother,
Rachel begged Leah, “Please
give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”
And Leah said, God hath
given me my
hire, because I have
given my
maiden to my husband: and she called his name
Issachar.
Then Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my
maidservant to my husband.” So she named him
Issachar.
And Leah said, God hath
endued me with a good
dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name
Zebulun.
“God has
given me a good gift,” she said. “This time my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” And she named him
Zebulun.
And it came to pass, when
Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto
Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.
Now after
Rachel had
given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to
Laban, “Send me on my way so I can return to my homeland.
Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.
Give me my wives and children for whom I have served you, that I may go on my way. You know how hard I have worked for you.”
And he said,
Appoint me thy wages, and I will
give it.
And he added, “Name your wages, and I will pay them.”
And he said, What shall I
give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not
give me any thing: if thou
wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:
“What can I
give you?”
Laban asked. “You do not need to
give me anything,” Jacob replied. “If you do this one thing for me, I will keep on
shepherding and keeping your flocks.
Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
Thus God has taken away your father’s
livestock and
given them to me.
And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath
graciously given thy servant.
When
Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, “Who are these with you?” Jacob answered, “These are the children God has
graciously given your servant.”
And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son
Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you
give her him to wife.
But Hamor said to them, “My son
Shechem longs for your daughter. Please
give her to him as his wife.
And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.
And
Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will
give.
Then
Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Grant me this favor, and I will
give you whatever you ask.
Ask me never so much
dowry and gift, and I will
give according as ye shall say unto me: but
give me the
damsel to wife.
Demand a high
dowry and an expensive gift, and I will
give you whatever you ask. Only
give me the
girl as my wife!”
And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to
give our sister to one that is
uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
“We cannot do such a thing,” they said. “To
give our sister to an
uncircumcised man would be a disgrace to us.
Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. We will dwell among you and become one people.
These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
“These men are at peace with us. Let them live and trade in our land; indeed, it is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage and give our daughters to them.
And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”
Later, they set out from
Bethel, and while they were still some distance from
Ephrath,
Rachel began to
give birth, and her labor was difficult.
And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he
spilled it on the ground, lest that he should
give seed to his brother.
But Onan knew that the offspring would not belong to him; so whenever he would sleep with his brother’s wife, he would
spill his seed on the ground so that he would not produce offspring for his brother.
And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a
vail, and
wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not
given unto him to wife.
she removed her widow’s garments, covered her face with a
veil to
disguise herself, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that although Shelah had grown up, she had not been
given to him as a wife.
And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What
wilt thou
give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
Not
realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.” “What will you
give me for sleeping with you?” she inquired.
And he said, I will send thee a
kid from the flock. And she said,
Wilt thou
give me a
pledge, till thou send it?
“I will send you a young goat from my flock,” Judah answered. But she replied, “Only if you leave me something as a
pledge until you send it.”
And he said, What
pledge shall I
give thee? And she said, Thy
signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
“What
pledge should I
give you?” he asked. She answered, “Your seal and your cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and
slept with her, and she became
pregnant by him.
And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
Judah recognized the items and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not have relations with her again.
And it came to pass in the time of her
travail, that, behold, twins were in her
womb.
When the time came for Tamar to
give birth, there were twins in her
womb.
And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
“I myself cannot do it,” Joseph replied, “but God will give Pharaoh a sound answer.”
And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
Moreover, because the dream was given to Pharaoh in two versions, the matter has been decreed by God, and He will carry it out shortly.
Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his
sack, and to
give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.
Then Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to return each man’s silver to his
sack, and to
give them provisions for their journey. This order was carried out,
And as one of them opened his
sack to
give his
ass provender in the inn, he
espied his money; for, behold, it was in his
sack’s mouth.
At the place where they
lodged for the night, one of them opened his
sack to get feed for his
donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of the
sack.
And bring your youngest brother unto me: then shall I know that ye are no
spies, but that ye are true men: so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall
traffick in the land.
But bring your youngest brother back to me so I will know that you are not
spies but
honest men. Then I will
give your brother back to you, and you can trade in the land.’”
And God
Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be
bereaved of my children, I am
bereaved.
May God
Almighty grant you mercy before the man, that he may release your other brother along with Benjamin. As for me, if I am
bereaved, I am
bereaved.”
And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath
given you
treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought
Simeon out unto them.
“It is fine,” said the
steward. “Do not be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, gave you the
treasure that was in your sacks. I received your silver.” Then he brought
Simeon out to them.
And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.
Then bring your father and your families and return to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat from the fat of the land.’
And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said,
Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.
When the money from the lands of Egypt and
Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “
Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? For our funds have run out!”
And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.
“Then bring me your
livestock,” said Joseph. “Since the money is gone, I will sell you food in exchange for your
livestock.”
Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land?
buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and
give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not
desolate.
Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh.
Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become
desolate.”
Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
However, he did not acquire the priests’ portion of the land, for it had been
given to them by Pharaoh. They
ate the rations that Pharaoh supplied; so they did not sell their land.
And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
At harvest time, you are to
give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and food for
yourselves and your households and children.”
And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will
give this land to thy seed after thee for an
everlasting possession.
and told me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you; I will make you a multitude of peoples, and will
give this land to your descendants after you as an
everlasting possession.’
And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath
given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will
bless them.
Joseph said to his father, “They are the sons God has
given me in this place.” So Jacob said, “Please bring them to me, that I may
bless them.”
Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
And to you, as one who is above your brothers, I
give the ridge of land that I took from the
Amorites with my sword and bow.”

giveth goodly words.
And he said, When ye do the office of a
midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
“When you help the Hebrew women give birth, observe them on the birthstools. If the child is a son, kill him; but if it is a daughter, let her live.”
And the
midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered
ere the
midwives come in unto them.
The
midwives answered Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and
give birth before a
midwife arrives.”
And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and
nurse it for me, and I will
give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it.
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and
nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages.” So the woman took the boy and
nursed him.
And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:
And I will grant this people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that when you leave, you will not go away empty-handed.
Ye shall no more
give the people straw to make brick, as
heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
“You shall no longer supply the people with straw for making bricks. They must go and gather their own straw.
And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
So the taskmasters and
foremen of the people went out and said to them, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I am no longer giving you straw.
There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
No straw has been given to your servants, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Look, your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”
Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
Now get to work. You will be
given no straw, yet you must deliver the full
quota of bricks.”
