Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks.
There were three rows of high windows facing one another in three tiers.
And above were costly stones, after the measures of
hewed stones, and cedars.
Above these were
high-
grade stones, cut to size, and
cedar beams.
For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits
high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.
He cast two pillars of bronze, each eighteen cubits high and twelve cubits in circumference.
And he made two chapiters of
molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one
chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other
chapiter was five cubits:
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars, each capital five cubits high.
And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of
lily work in the
porch, four cubits.
And the capitals
atop the pillars in the
portico were shaped like
lilies, four cubits
high.
And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.
In addition, he made ten movable stands of bronze, each four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high.
And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a
cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.
At the top of each stand was a circular band half a
cubit high. The supports and panels were cast as a unit with the top of the stand.
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
And at this house, which is
high, every one that passeth by it shall be
astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and will hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
Jeroboam also built shrines on the
high places and appointed from every class of people priests who were not Levites.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the
high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the
high places he had set up.
And he
cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David,
Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the
high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
And he
cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, “O altar, O altar, this is what the LORD says: ‘A son named
Josiah will be born to the house of David, and upon you he will sacrifice the priests of the
high places who burn incense upon you, and human bones will be burned upon you.’”
For the saying which he
cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in
Bethel, and against all the houses of the
high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
for the message that he
cried out by the word of the LORD against the altar in
Bethel and against all the shrines on the
high places in the cities of Samaria will surely come to pass.”
After this thing
Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the
high places:
whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the
high places.
Even after these events,
Jeroboam did not
repent of his evil ways, but again he appointed priests for the
high places from every class of people. He ordained
anyone who desired to be a priest of the
high places.
For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.
They also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
But the
high places were not removed: nevertheless
Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.
The
high places were not removed, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all his days.
And she wrote in the letters, saying,
Proclaim a fast, and set
Naboth on
high among the people:
In the letters she wrote: “
Proclaim a fast and give
Naboth a seat of honor among the people.
They proclaimed a fast, and set
Naboth on
high among the people.
They proclaimed a fast and gave
Naboth a seat of honor among the people.
And he walked in all the ways of
Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the
high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the
high places.
And
Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of his father
Asa; he did not turn away from them, but did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. The
high places, however, were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the
high places.
Now
Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given
deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a
leper.
Now
Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of
Aram, was a great man in his master’s sight and
highly regarded, for through him the LORD had given victory to
Aram. And he was a mighty man of
valor, but he was a
leper.
But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s
scribe and the
high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal
scribe and the
high priest would go up, count the money brought into the house of the LORD, and
tie it up in bags.
Howbeit the
high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the
high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
Howbeit the
high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the
high places. He built the
higher gate of the house of the LORD.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.
And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them
high places in all their cities, from the tower of the
watchmen to the
fenced city.
The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From
watchtower to fortified city, they built
high places in all their cities.
And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:
They set up for themselves sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
And there they burnt incense in all the
high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to
provoke the LORD to anger:
They burned incense on all the
high places like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them. They did wicked things,
provoking the LORD to anger.
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the
high places which the
Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
Nevertheless, the people of each nation continued to make their own gods in the cities where they had settled, and they set them up in the shrines that the people of Samaria had made on the high places.
So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
So the new residents worshiped the LORD, but they also appointed for themselves priests of all sorts to serve in the shrines of the high places.
He removed the
high places, and
brake the images, and cut down the groves, and
brake in pieces the
brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it
Nehushtan.
He removed the
high places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He also
demolished the bronze
snake called
Nehushtan that Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had burned incense to it.
And the king of Assyria sent
Tartan and Rabsaris and
Rab-shakeh from
Lachish to king
Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the
conduit of the upper
pool, which is in the
highway of the fuller’s field.
Nevertheless, the king of Assyria sent the
Tartan, the Rabsaris, and the
Rabshakeh, along with a great army, from
Lachish to King
Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They advanced up to Jerusalem and stationed themselves by the
aqueduct of the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field.
But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose
high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose
high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You must worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
Whom hast thou reproached and
blasphemed? and against whom hast thou
exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on
high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
Whom have you
taunted and
blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!
For he built up again the
high places which
Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the
high places that his father
Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count the money that has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.
And Hilkiah the
high priest said unto Shaphan the
scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
Then Hilkiah the
high priest said to Shaphan the
scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan, who read it.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the
high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for
Baal, and for the
grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto
Bethel.
Then the king commanded Hilkiah the
high priest, the priests second in rank, and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the LORD all the articles made for
Baal, Asherah, and all the host of heaven. And he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and carried their ashes to
Bethel.
And he put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the
high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the
high places of the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the
high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the
high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the
high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He
tore down the
high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
Nevertheless the priests of the
high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the
unleavened bread among their brethren.
Although the priests of the
high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, they
ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
And the
high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for
Ashtoreth the
abomination of the Zidonians, and for
Chemosh the
abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the
abomination of the children of
Ammon, did the king
defile.
Moreover the altar that was at
Bethel, and the
high place which
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the
high place he
brake down, and burned the
high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the
grove.
He even pulled down the altar at
Bethel, the
high place set up by
Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin. Then he burned the
high place, ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole.
And all the houses also of the
high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to
provoke the LORD to anger,
Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in
Bethel.
Just as
Josiah had done at
Bethel, so also in the cities of Samaria he removed all the shrines of the
high places set up by the kings of Israel who had
provoked the LORD to anger.
And he
slew all the priests of the
high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men’s bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
The height of the one
pillar was eighteen cubits, and the
chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the
chapiter three cubits; and the
wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the
chapiter round about, all of brass: and like unto these had the second
pillar with
wreathen work.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall. The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was three cubits
high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its network, was similar.
And he
slew an Egyptian, a man of great
stature, five cubits
high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a
spear like a
weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a
spear like a
weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had
highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he
instructed about the song, because he was skilful.
Chenaniah the head
Levite was the director of the music because he was
highly skilled.
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the
high place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the
high place in
Gibeon And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the
high place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering were presently at the
high place in
Gibeon,
To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the
causeway of the going up, ward against ward.
The lots for the West Gate and the Shallecheth Gate on the ascending
highway fell to Shuppim and Hosah. There were guards stationed at every watch.
At Parbar westward, four at the
causeway, and two at Parbar.
As for the court on the west, there were four at the
highway and two at the court.
And the LORD
magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
The LORD
highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been bestowed on any king in Israel before him.
And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now Solomon son of David established himself securely over his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and
highly exalted him.
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the
high place that was at
Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the
high place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
Then Solomon came from his journey to the
high place that was at
Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.
So Solomon went to Jerusalem from the
high place in
Gibeon before the Tent of Meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?
And the
porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
The
portico at the front, extending across the width of the temple, was twenty cubits long and twenty cubits
high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.
Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits
high, and the
chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
In front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits high, each with a capital on top measuring five cubits.
Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.
He made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits high.
For Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits
high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits
high, and had placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
And this house, which is
high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
And he ordained him priests for the
high places, and for the devils, and for the
calves which he had made.
And
Jeroboam appointed his own priests for the
high places and for the goat demons and
calf idols he had made.
For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the
high places, and
brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
He removed the foreign altars and
high places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and
chopped down the Asherah poles.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
But the
high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of
Asa was perfect all his days.
The
high places were not removed from Israel, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD;
furthermore, he removed the
high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
And the Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel,
shouting in a very loud voice.
Howbeit the
high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.
Moreover he made
high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit
fornication, and compelled Judah
thereto.
Jehoram had also built
high places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves and had led Judah
astray.
And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
He also took with him the commanders of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace through the Upper Gate. They seated King
Joash on the royal throne,
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the
high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the
high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.
Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD, and he worked extensively on the wall at the hill of Ophel.
He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And in every several city of Judah he made
high places to burn incense unto other gods, and
provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
In every city of Judah he built
high places to offer incense to other gods, and so he
provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the
high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the
high places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
Hath not the same
Hezekiah taken away his
high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
Did not
Hezekiah himself remove His
high places and His altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn sacrifices’?
For he built again the
high places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for
Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the
high places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built
high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built
high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to
purge Judah and Jerusalem from the
high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young,
Josiah began to seek the God of his father David, and in the
twelfth year he began to
cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the
high places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images.
And they
brake down the altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on
high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the incense altars that were above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
And when they came to Hilkiah the
high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of
Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the
remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.
So they went to Hilkiah the
high priest and gave him the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites at the doors had collected from the people of
Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the
remnant of Israel, Judah, and Benjamin, and from the people of Jerusalem.
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
threescore cubits;
In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
And said, O my God, I am
ashamed and
blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our
iniquities are increased over our head, and our
trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
and said: “O my God, I am
ashamed and
embarrassed to lift up my face to You, my God, because our
iniquities are
higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached the heavens.
Then Eliashib the
high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they
sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they
sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.
