For indeed he accepted the
exhortation; but being more forward, of
his own
accord he went unto you.
For not only did he
welcome our appeal, but he is eagerly coming to you of
his own
volition.
And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;
Along with
Titus we are sending the brother who is praised by all the churches for
his work in the gospel.
And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have
oftentimes proved
diligent in many things, but now much more
diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.
And we are sending along with them our brother whose earnestness has been
proven many times and in many ways, and now even more so by
his great confidence in you.
Every man according as he purposeth in
his heart, so let him give; not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a
cheerful giver.
Each one should give what he has decided in
his heart to give, not out of
regret or
compulsion. For God loves a
cheerful giver.
(As it is written, He hath
dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor:
his righteousness remaineth for ever.
As it is written: “He has scattered abroad
His gifts to the poor;
His righteousness endures
forever.”
Thanks be unto God for
his unspeakable gift.
Thanks be to God for
His indescribable gift!
For
his letters, say they, are
weighty and powerful; but
his bodily presence is weak, and
his speech contemptible.
For some say, “
His letters are
weighty and forceful, but
his physical presence is
unimpressive, and
his speaking is of no account.”
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through
his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
I am afraid, however, that just as
Eve was
deceived by the serpent’s
cunning, your minds may be led
astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
It is not surprising, then, if
his servants
masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.
And through a window in a
basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped
his hands.
But I was lowered in a
basket through a window in the wall and escaped
his grasp.
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s
womb, and called me by
his grace,
But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s
womb and called me by
His grace, was pleased
To
reveal his Son in me, that I might
preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
to
reveal His Son in me so that I might
preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not
rush to
consult with flesh and blood,
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I
withstood him to the face, because he was to be
blamed.
When
Cephas came to Antioch, however, I opposed him to
his face, because he stood to be condemned.
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Does God
lavish His Spirit on you and work miracles among you because you practice the law, or because you hear and believe?
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ.
But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father.
But when the
fulness of the time was come, God sent forth
his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of
his Son into your hearts, crying,
Abba, Father.
And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of
His Son into our hearts, crying out, “
Abba, Father!”
But he who was of the
bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the
freewoman was by promise.
His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born through the promise.
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear
his judgment,
whosoever he be.
I am
confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment,
whoever he may be.
But let every man prove
his own work, and then shall he have
rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
Each one should test
his own work. Then he will have reason to
boast in himself alone, and not in someone else.
For every man shall bear his own burden.
For each one should carry his own load.
Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with
his instructor.
For he that soweth to
his flesh shall of the flesh
reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit
reap life
everlasting.
The one who sows to please
his flesh, from the flesh will
reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will
reap eternal life.
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without
blame before him in love:
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and
blameless in
His presence. In love
Having
predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of
his will,
He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will,
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.
In whom we have
redemption through
his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of
his grace;
In Him we have
redemption through
His blood, the
forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of
His grace
Having made known unto us the
mystery of
his will, according to
his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
And He has made known to us the
mystery of
His will according to
His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of
his own will:
In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will,
That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory.
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the
redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of
his glory.
who is the
pledge of our inheritance until the
redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of
His glory.
The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of
his calling, and what the riches of the glory of
his inheritance in the saints,
I ask that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened, so that you may know the hope of
His calling, the riches of
His glorious inheritance in the saints,
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
and the
surpassing greatness of
His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of
His mighty strength,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms,
And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church,
Which is
his body, the
fulness of him that filleth all in all.
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for
his great love
wherewith he loved us,
But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
That in the ages to come he might
shew the exceeding riches of
his grace in
his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
in order that in the coming ages He might display the
surpassing riches of
His grace, demonstrated by
His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
For we are
his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
For we are God’s
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
Having abolished in
his flesh the
enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of
twain one new man, so making peace;
by
abolishing in
His flesh the law of commandments and decrees. He did this to
create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace
In whom ye also are builded together for an
habitation of God through the Spirit.
And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
This
mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus.
Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the
effectual working of
his power.
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace, given me through the working of His power.
To the intent that now unto the
principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the
manifold wisdom of God,
His purpose was that now, through the church, the
manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
I ask that out of the riches of
His glory He may
strengthen you with power through
His Spirit in your inner being,
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Now to Him who is able to do
immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to
His power that is at work within us,
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Therefore each of you must put off
falsehood and speak truthfully to
his neighbor, for we are all members of one another.
Let him that
stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with
his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
He who has been
stealing must
steal no longer, but must work, doing good with
his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,
His body, of which He is the
Savior.
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
For no man ever yet
hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Indeed, no one ever
hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
For we are members of His body.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from
His love, if any
fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and
compassion,
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose.
But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
But you know
Timothy’s
proven worth, that as a child with
his father he has served with me to advance the gospel.
Because for the work of Christ he was
nigh unto death, not regarding
his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
because he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking
his life to make up for your
deficit of service to me.
That I may know him, and the power of
his resurrection, and the
fellowship of
his sufferings, being made
conformable unto
his death;
I want to know Christ and the power of
His resurrection and the
fellowship of
His sufferings, being
conformed to Him in
His death,
Who shall change our
vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto
his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to
subdue all things unto himself.
who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will
transform our lowly bodies to be like
His glorious body.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
being strengthened with all power according to
His glorious might so that you may have full
endurance and
patience, and
joyfully Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of
his dear Son:
He has
rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of
His beloved Son,
For it pleased the Father that in him should all
fulness dwell;
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,
And, having made peace through the blood of
his cross, by him to
reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
and through Him to
reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of
His cross.
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Who now
rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for
his body’s sake, which is the church:
Now I
rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions for the sake of
His body, which is the church.
Even the
mystery which hath been
hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to
his saints:
the
mystery that was hidden for ages and generations but is now revealed to
His saints.
To this end I also labor,
striving with all
His energy working powerfully within me.
Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way,
nailing it to
his cross;
having
canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away,
nailing it to the cross!
Do not let
anyone who delights in false
humility and the worship of angels
disqualify you with speculation about what he has seen. Such a person is
puffed up without basis by
his unspiritual mind.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices,
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
Salute the brethren which are in
Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in
his house.
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
and to
await His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus our deliverer from the coming wrath.
As ye know how we
exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father
doth his children,
For you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children—
That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
encouraging you, comforting you, and
urging you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into
His own kingdom and glory.
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of
rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at
his coming?
After all, who is our hope, our joy, our crown of
boasting, if it is not you
yourselves in the presence of our Lord Jesus at
His coming?
But now when
Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good
tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good
remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
But just now,
Timothy has returned from
his visit with the good news about your faith, your love, and the fond
memories you have preserved, longing to see us just as we long to see you.
For what
thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy
wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
How can we adequately
thank God for you in return for our great joy over you in
His presence?
To the end he may
stablish your hearts unblameable in
holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all
his saints.
so that He may establish your hearts in
blamelessness and
holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all
His saints.
Amen.
That every one of you should know how to possess
his vessel in
sanctification and honour;
each of you must know how to control
his own body in
holiness and honor,
and no one should ever
violate or
exploit his brother in this regard, because the Lord will
avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly
warned you.
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
Anyone, then, who rejects this command does not
reject man but God, the very One who gives you
His Holy Spirit.
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
and to grant relief to you who are
oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with
His mighty angels
Who shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of
his power;
They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might,
When he shall come to be
glorified in
his saints, and to be
admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
on the day He comes to be
glorified in
His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony.
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
To this end, we always pray for you, that our God will count you worthy of
His calling, and that He will powerfully
fulfill your every good desire and work of faith,
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall
consume with the spirit of
his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of
his coming:
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will
slay with the breath of
His mouth and
annihilate by the majesty of
His arrival.
But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display
His perfect
patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life.
One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
An
overseer must
manage his own household well and keep
his children under control, with complete dignity.
