But
Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord,
wilt thou
slay also a righteous nation?
Now
Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You destroy a nation even though it is
innocent?
Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the
integrity of my heart and
innocency of my hands have I done this.
Didn’t Abraham tell me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the
integrity of my heart and the
innocence of my hands.”
And Jacob took him rods of green
poplar, and of the
hazel and
chesnut tree; and
pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
Jacob, however, took fresh branches of
poplar,
almond, and plane trees, and
peeled the bark,
exposing the white
inner wood of the branches.
And as one of them opened his
sack to give his
ass provender in the
inn, he
espied his money; for, behold, it was in his
sack’s mouth.
At the place where they
lodged for the night, one of them opened his
sack to get feed for his
donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of the
sack.
And it came to pass, when we came to the
inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his
sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
But when we came to the place we
lodged for the night, we opened our sacks and, behold, each of us found his silver in the mouth of his
sack! It was the full amount of our silver, and we have brought it back with us.
And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
Now at a
lodging place along the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him.
Eat not of it raw, nor
sodden at all with water, but
roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the
purtenance thereof.
Do not eat any of the meat raw or
cooked in boiling water, but only
roasted over the fire—its head and legs and
inner parts.
Keep thee far from a false matter; and the
innocent and righteous
slay thou not: for I will not
justify the wicked.
Stay far away from a false
accusation. Do not kill the
innocent or the just, for I will not
acquit the guilty.
That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
Thus
innocent blood will not be shed in the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that you will not be guilty of
bloodshed.
Thine eye shall not
pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of
innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
You must show him no
pity. You are to
purge from Israel the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, that it may go well with you.
Be
merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not
innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be
forgiven them.
Accept this
atonement, O LORD, for Your people Israel whom You have redeemed, and do not hold the
shedding of
innocent blood against them.” And the
bloodshed will be
atoned for.
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
So you shall
purge from among you the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall
justify the righteous, and
condemn the wicked.
If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court to be judged, so that the
innocent may be
acquitted and the guilty condemned.
Cursed be he that taketh reward to
slay an
innocent person. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who accepts a
bribe to kill an
innocent person.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
And it shall be, that
whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and
whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
If
anyone goes out the door of your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be
innocent. But if a hand is laid on
anyone with you in the house, his blood will be on our heads.
For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
For the Midianites came with their
livestock and their tents like a great
swarm of locusts. They and their camels were
innumerable, and they entered the land to
ravage it.
And when all the men of the tower of
Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.
On hearing of this, all the leaders in the tower of
Shechem entered the
inner chamber of the temple of El-berith.
And all the people likewise cut down every man his
bough, and followed
Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of
Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
So each man also cut his own branch and followed
Abimelech. Then they piled the branches against the
inner chamber and set it on fire above them, killing
everyone in the tower of
Shechem, about a thousand men and women.
For he did put his life in his hand, and
slew the
Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and
didst rejoice: wherefore then
wilt thou sin against
innocent blood, to
slay David without a cause?
He took his life in his hands when he struck down the
Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it and
rejoiced, so why would you sin against
innocent blood by killing David for no reason?”
And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David
beheld the place where Saul lay, and
Abner the son of
Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the
trench, and the people pitched round about him.
Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw the place where Saul and
Abner son of
Ner, the general of his army, had
lain down. Saul was lying inside the
inner circle of the camp, with the troops camped around him.
So David and
Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the
trench, and his
spear stuck in the ground at his
bolster: but
Abner and the people lay round about him.
That night David and
Abishai came to the troops, and Saul was lying there
asleep in the
inner circle of the camp, with his
spear stuck in the ground by his head. And
Abner and the troops were lying around him.
And with
Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.
Two hundred men from Jerusalem accompanied
Absalom. They had been invited as guests and they went along
innocently, for they knew nothing about the matter.
And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and
bury him; that thou mayest take away the
innocent blood, which
Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
And the king replied, “Do just as he says. Strike him down and
bury him, and so remove from me and from the house of my father the
innocent blood that
Joab shed.
And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the
oracle: and he made chambers round about:
Against the walls of the temple and the inner sanctuary, Solomon built a chambered structure around the temple, in which he constructed the side rooms.
And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of
cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the
oracle, even for the most holy place.
He partitioned off the twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with
cedar boards from floor to
ceiling to form within the temple an
inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
And the
oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
Solomon also prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.
And the
oracle in the
forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of
cedar.
The
inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of
cedar.
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the
oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.
And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the
oracle he overlaid with gold.
So he overlaid with gold the whole interior of the temple, until everything was completely finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
And within the
oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.
In the
inner sanctuary he made two
cherubim, each ten cubits high, out of olive wood.
And he set the cherubims within the
inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other
cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
And he placed the
cherubim inside the
innermost room of the temple. Since their wings were spread out, the wing of the first
cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the second
cherub touched the other wall, and in the middle of the room their wingtips touched.
And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
Then he carved the walls all around the temple, in both the
inner and outer
sanctuaries, with carved engravings of
cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.
And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
And he overlaid the temple floor with gold in both the
inner and outer
sanctuaries.
And for the entering of the
oracle he made doors of olive tree: the
lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.
For the entrance to the inner sanctuary, Solomon constructed doors of olive wood with five-sided doorposts.
And he built the
inner court with three rows of
hewed stone, and a row of
cedar beams.
And the great court round about was with three rows of
hewed stones, and a row of
cedar beams, both for the
inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the
porch of the house.
And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the
oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the
tongs of gold,
the lampstands of pure gold in front of the
inner sanctuary, five on the right side and five on the left; the gold flowers, lamps, and
tongs;
And the
bowls, and the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the
inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple.
the pure gold basins,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers; and the gold hinges for the doors of the
inner temple (that is, the Most Holy Place) as well as for the doors of the main hall of the temple.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the
oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the
inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
And they drew out the
staves, that the ends of the
staves were seen out in the holy place before the
oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
The poles extended far enough that their ends were visible from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben-
hadad fled, and came into the city, into an
inner chamber.
The rest of them fled into the city of Aphek, where the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand of the remaining men. Ben-
hadad also fled to the city and
hid in an
inner room.
And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an
inner chamber to hide
thyself.
Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”
And when thou comest thither, look out there
Jehu the son of
Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an
inner chamber;
When you arrive, look for
Jehu son of
Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go in, get him away from his companions, and take him to an
inner room.
And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I
conspired against my master, and
slew him: but who
slew all these?
The next morning,
Jehu went out and stood before all the people and said, “You are
innocent. It was I who
conspired against my master and killed him. But who killed all these?
And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that
Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and
slay them; let none come forth. And they
smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of
Baal.
When he had finished making the burnt offering,
Jehu said to the guards and officers, “Go in and kill them. Do not let
anyone out.” So the guards and officers put them to the sword, threw the bodies out, and went into the
inner room of the temple of
Baal.
Moreover
Manasseh shed
innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin
wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.
Moreover,
Manasseh shed so much
innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end, in addition to the sin that he had caused Judah to commit, doing evil in the sight of the LORD.
And also for the
innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with
innocent blood; which the LORD would not
pardon.
and also for the
innocent blood he had shed. For he had filled Jerusalem with
innocent blood, and the LORD was unwilling to
forgive.
Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the
inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms,
inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the
oracle, of pure gold;
the lampstands of pure gold and their lamps, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary as prescribed;
And the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the
inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.
the
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers of purest gold; and the gold doors of the temple: the
inner doors to the Most Holy Place as well as the doors of the main hall.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the
oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the
inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
And they drew out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an
inner chamber to hide
thyself.
Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”
And the priests went into the
inner part of the house of the LORD, to
cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the
brook Kidron.
So the priests went inside the house of the LORD to
cleanse it, and they brought out to the
courtyard all the unclean things that they found in the temple of the LORD. Then the Levites took these things and carried them out to the Kidron Valley.
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the
inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the
inner court without being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
Now it came to pass on the third day, that
Esther put on her royal
apparel, and stood in the
inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
On the third day,
Esther put on her royal
attire and stood in the
inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
Consider now, I
plead: Who, being
innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
When the
scourge brings sudden death, He mocks the
despair of the
innocent.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou
wilt not hold me
innocent.
I would still
dread all my sufferings; I know that You will not
acquit me.
The upright are
appalled at this, and the
innocent are
stirred against the godless.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
The clods of the valley are sweet to him;
everyone follows behind him, and those before him are without number.
The righteous see it, and are
glad: and the
innocent laugh them to
scorn.
The righteous see it and are
glad; the
innocent mock them:
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
He will deliver even one who is not
innocent,
rescuing him through the cleanness of your hands.”
He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
what he lays up, the righteous will wear, and his silver will be divided by the innocent.
I am clean without
transgression, I am
innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
‘I am pure, without
transgression; I am clean, with no iniquity in me.
He sitteth in the
lurking places of the villages: in the secret places
doth he murder the
innocent: his eyes are
privily set against the poor.
He lies in wait near the villages; in
ambush he slays the
innocent; his eyes watch in
stealth for the helpless.
He that putteth not out his money to
usury, nor taketh reward against the
innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
who
lends his money without interest and refuses a
bribe against the
innocent. He who does these things will never be
shaken.
Keep back thy servant also from
presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be
innocent from the great
transgression.
I will wash mine hands in
innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD:
I wash my hands in
innocence that I may go about Your altar, O LORD,
For
innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine
iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
For evils without number
surround me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed within me.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
They
devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the
inner man and the heart are
mysterious.
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in
innocence I have washed my hands.
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and
condemn the
innocent blood.
They band together against the righteous and
condemn the
innocent to death.
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things
creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
Here is the sea, vast and wide,
teeming with creatures beyond number, living things both great and small.
And shed
innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of
Canaan: and the land was
polluted with blood.
They shed
innocent blood— the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of
Canaan, and the land was
polluted with blood.
If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us
lurk privily for the
innocent without cause:
If they say, “Come along, let us lie in wait for blood, let us
ambush the
innocent without cause,
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed
innocent blood,
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife;
whosoever toucheth her shall not be
innocent.
So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
Also to
punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for
equity.
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
Showing
partiality to the wicked is not good, nor is depriving the
innocent of justice.
The words of a
gossip are like choice morsels that go down into the inmost being.
The way of man is
froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
The way of a guilty man is
crooked, but the conduct of the
innocent is upright.
He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people
curse, nations shall
abhor him:
Whoever tells the guilty, “You are
innocent”— peoples will
curse him, and nations will
denounce him;
The words of a
gossip are like choice morsels that go down into the inmost being.
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh
haste to be rich shall not be
innocent.
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but one eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
Which
justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
who
acquit the guilty for a
bribe and deprive the
innocent of justice.
That make a man an
offender for a word, and lay a
snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of
nought.
those who
indict a man with a word, who
ensnare the
mediator at the gate, and who with false charges deprive the
innocent of justice.
Their feet run to evil, and they make
haste to shed
innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.
Their feet run to evil; they are swift to shed
innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and destruction lie in their
wake.
Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Moreover, your skirts are
stained with the blood of the
innocent poor, though you did not find them breaking in. But in spite of all these things
Yet thou sayest, Because I am
innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will
plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not
sinned.
you say, ‘I am
innocent. Surely His anger will turn from me.’ Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not
sinned.’
If ye
oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not
innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your
hurt:
if you no longer
oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed
innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own
harm,
Because they have
forsaken me, and have
estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of
innocents;
because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in this place to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
Thus saith the LORD;
Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the
spoiled out of the hand of the
oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed
innocent blood in this place.
This is what the LORD says:
Administer justice and righteousness.
Rescue the
victim of
robbery from the hand of his
oppressor. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Do not shed
innocent blood in this place.
But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy
covetousness, and for to shed
innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
“But your eyes and heart are set on nothing except your own
dishonest gain, on
shedding innocent blood, on practicing
extortion and oppression.”
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring
innocent blood upon
yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring
innocent blood upon
yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to speak all these words in your hearing.”
They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
They will
chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense though it may be, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the
inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the
inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
And he brought me into the
inner court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the
porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
So He brought me to the
inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple of the LORD, between the
portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east; and they were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.
Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.
Now when the man went in, the
cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple, and a cloud filled the
inner court.
