He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with
rejoicing, bringing his
sheaves with him.
He who goes out
weeping, bearing a
trail of seed, will surely return with shouts of
joy, carrying
sheaves of grain.
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints
shout for
joy.
May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and Your saints
shout for
joy.

clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall
shout aloud for
joy.

clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will sing out in
joy.
For there they that carried us away
captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us
mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of
Zion.
for there our captors requested a song; our tormentors demanded songs of
joy: “Sing us a song of
Zion.”
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue
cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I
prefer not Jerusalem above my chief
joy.
May my tongue
cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not
exalt Jerusalem as my greatest
joy!
They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
They will
extol the fame of Your abundant goodness and sing
joyfully of Your righteousness.
Let Israel
rejoice in him that made him: let the children of
Zion be
joyful in their King.
Let the saints be
joyful in glory: let them sing
aloud upon their beds.
Let the saints
exult in glory; let them
shout for
joy upon their beds.
The
proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings
joy to his father, but a
foolish son grief to his mother.
The hope of the righteous shall be
gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectations of the wicked will perish.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is
shouting.
When the righteous
thrive, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are shouts of
joy.
Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is
joy.
Deceit is in the hearts of those who
devise evil, but the counselors of peace have
joy.
The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger
doth not
intermeddle with his
joy.
The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares in its joy.
Even in
laughter the heart may
ache, and
joy may end in sorrow.
A
merry heart maketh a
cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
A
joyful heart makes a
cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit.
A wise son maketh a
glad father: but a
foolish man despiseth his mother.
A wise son brings
joy to his father, but a
foolish man despises his mother.
Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
Folly is joy to one who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding walks a straight path.
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
A man takes joy in a fitting reply— and how good is a timely word!
He that begetteth a
fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a
fool hath no
joy.
A man fathers a
fool to his own grief; the father of a
fool has no
joy.
A
merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
Justice executed is a joy to the righteous, but a terror to the workers of iniquity.
The father of the righteous shall greatly
rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have
joy of him.
The father of a righteous man will greatly
rejoice, and he who fathers a wise son will delight in him.
Oil and incense bring joy to the heart, and the sweetness of a friend is counsel to the soul.

glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

And
whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I
withheld not my heart from any
joy; for my heart
rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.
Anything my eyes desired, I did not deny myself. I refused my heart no pleasure. For my heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and
joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and
joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
For a man seldom considers the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart.
In the day of prosperity be
joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
In the day of prosperity, be
joyful, but in the day of
adversity, consider this: God has made one of these along with the other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this
joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
Go thy way, eat thy bread with
joy, and drink thy wine with a
merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
Go, eat your bread with
joy, and drink your wine with a
cheerful heart, for God has already approved your works:
Live
joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.
Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the
joy: they
joy before thee according to the
joy in harvest, and as men
rejoice when they divide the
spoil.
You have enlarged the nation and increased its
joy. The people
rejoice before You as they
rejoice at harvest time, as men
rejoice in dividing the
plunder.
Therefore the Lord shall have no
joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an
hypocrite and an
evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Therefore the Lord takes no pleasure in their young men; He has no
compassion on their fatherless and widows. For every one of them is godless and wicked, and every mouth speaks folly.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
With joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation,
And
gladness is taken away, and
joy out of the
plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be
shouting: the treaders shall
tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their
vintage shouting to cease.
Joy and
gladness are removed from the
orchard; no one sings or shouts in the vineyards. No one tramples the grapes in the winepresses; I have put an end to the
cheering.
Thou that art full of stirs, a
tumultuous city, a
joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.
O city of
commotion, O town of
revelry? Your slain did not die by the sword, nor were they killed in battle.
And behold
joy and
gladness,
slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to
morrow we shall die.
But look, there is
joy and
gladness,
butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for
tomorrow we die!”
Is this your
joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her
afar off to
sojourn.
Is this your
jubilant city, whose origin is from antiquity, whose feet have taken her to settle far away?
The
mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that
rejoice endeth, the
joy of the
harp ceaseth.
The
joyful tambourines have ceased; the noise of revelers has stopped; the
joyful harp is silent.
There is a crying for wine in the streets; all
joy is
darkened, the
mirth of the land is gone.
In the streets they cry out for wine. All
joy turns to
gloom;
rejoicing is exiled from the land.
They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry
aloud from the sea.
They raise their voices, they
shout for
joy; from the west they
proclaim the majesty of the LORD.
The
meek also shall increase their
joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
The humble will increase their
joy in the LORD, and the poor among men will
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers;
yea, upon all the houses of
joy in the
joyous city:
and for the land of my people, overgrown with thorns and briers— even for every house of
merriment in this city of
revelry.
Because the palaces shall be
forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a
joy of wild
asses, a pasture of flocks;
Then shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for
joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them
shout from the top of the mountains.
Let the desert and its cities raise their voices; let the villages of
Kedar cry
aloud. Let the people of Sela sing for
joy; let them cry out from the mountaintops.
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it:
shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and
glorified himself in Israel.
Sing for
joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this;
shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break forth in song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel.
Go ye forth of Babylon,
flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Leave Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it with a
shout of
joy,
proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
Sing, O heavens; and be
joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.
Shout for
joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth; break forth in song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people, and He will have
compassion on His
afflicted ones.
For the LORD shall comfort
Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like
Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD;
joy and
gladness shall be found therein,
thanksgiving, and the voice of
melody.
Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto
Zion; and
everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain
gladness and
joy; and sorrow and
mourning shall
flee away.
Thy
watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again
Zion.
Listen! Your
watchmen lift up their voices, together they
shout for
joy. For every eye will see when the LORD returns to
Zion.
Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Break forth in joy, sing together, O ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem.
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for
joy, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
For ye shall go out with
joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall
clap their hands.
You will indeed go out with
joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will
burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will
clap their hands.
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar, for My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Then you will look and be
radiant, and your heart will
tremble and swell with
joy, because the riches of the sea will be brought to you, and the wealth of the nations will come to you.
Whereas thou hast been
forsaken and
hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal
excellency, a
joy of many generations.
To
appoint unto them that
mourn in
Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of
joy for
mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of
heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be
glorified.
to
console the mourners in
Zion— to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of
joy for
mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of
despair. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be
glorified.
For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall
rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double:
everlasting joy shall be unto them.
Instead of shame, My people will have a double portion, and instead of
humiliation, they will
rejoice in their share; and so they will
inherit a double portion in their land, and
everlasting joy will be theirs.
I will greatly
rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be
joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the
robe of righteousness, as a
bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a
bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
I will
rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will
exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and
wrapped me in a
robe of righteousness, as a
bridegroom wears a priestly
headdress, as a
bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Behold, my servants shall sing for
joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall
howl for
vexation of spirit.
My servants will
shout for
joy with a
glad heart, but you will cry out with a heavy heart and
wail with a broken spirit.
And I will
rejoice in Jerusalem, and
joy in my people: and the voice of
weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
I will
rejoice in Jerusalem and take delight in My people. The sounds of
weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her.
Hear the word of the LORD, ye that
tremble at his word; your brethren that
hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be
glorified: but he shall appear to your
joy, and they shall be
ashamed.
You who
tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD: “Your brothers who
hate you and
exclude you because of My name have said, ‘Let the LORD be
glorified that we may see your
joy!’ But they will be put to shame.”
Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be
glad with her, all ye that love her:
rejoice for
joy with her, all ye that
mourn for her:
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride: for the land shall be
desolate.
I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of
joy and
gladness and the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the
joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Your words were found, and I
ate them. Your words became my
joy and my heart’s delight. For I bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to remove from this place, before your very eyes and in your days, the sounds of
joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom.
Cursed be the man who brought
tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very
glad.
Cursed be the man who brought my father the news, saying, “A son is born to you,” bringing him great
joy.
Moreover I will take from them the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the
candle.
Moreover, I will
banish from them the sounds of
joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.
Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make
merry.
Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out in joyful dancing.
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among the chief of the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the
remnant of Israel.
For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with
joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the
remnant of Israel!’
Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of
Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the
herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
They will come and
shout for
joy on the heights of
Zion; they will be
radiant over the
bounty of the LORD— the grain, new wine, and oil, and the young of the flocks and herds. Their life will be like a well-watered garden, and never again will they
languish.
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their
mourning into
joy, and will comfort them, and make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and old as well. I will turn their
mourning into
joy, and give them comfort and
joy for their sorrow.
And it shall be to me a name of
joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and
tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I
procure unto it.
So this city will bring Me
renown,
joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good I do for it. They will
tremble in
awe because of all the goodness and prosperity that I will provide for it.
The voice of
joy, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.
the sounds of
joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing
thank offerings into the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give
thanks to the LORD of Hosts, for the LORD is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.’ For I will restore the land from captivity as in former times, says the LORD.
For was not Israel a
derision unto thee? was he found among
thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for
joy.
Was not Israel your object of
ridicule? Was he ever found among
thieves? For whenever you speak of him you
shake your head.
Joy and
gladness are removed from the
orchard and from the fields of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the presses; no one treads them with shouts of
joy; their shouts are not for
joy.
How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!
How is the city of praise not
forsaken, the town that brings Me
joy?
Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.
Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will
shout for
joy over Babylon because the destroyers from the north will come against her,” declares the LORD.
All that pass by
clap their hands at thee; they hiss and
wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The
joy of the whole earth?
All who pass by
clap their hands at you in
scorn. They hiss and
shake their heads at the Daughter of Jerusalem: “Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the
joy of all the earth?”
The
joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into
mourning.
Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to
mourning.
The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.
Doom has come to you, O inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near; there is
panic on the mountains instead of shouts of
joy.
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the
joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that
whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,
And you, son of man, know that on the day I take away their
stronghold, their pride and
joy—the desire of their eyes which
uplifted their souls—and their sons and daughters as well,
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all
Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the
joy of all their heart, with
despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all
Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted
joy and utter contempt, so that its pastureland became
plunder.
Rejoice not, O Israel, for
joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a
whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every
cornfloor.
The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the
pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are
withered: because
joy is
withered away from the sons of men.
Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,
yea,
joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes—
joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Yet I will
rejoice in the LORD, I will
joy in the God of my salvation.
yet I will
exult in the LORD; I will
rejoice in the God of my salvation!
Sing, O daughter of
Zion;
shout, O Israel; be
glad and
rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will
rejoice over thee with
joy; he will rest in his love, he will
joy over thee with singing.
The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will
rejoice over you with
gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will
rejoice over you with singing.”
Sing and
rejoice, O daughter of
Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for
joy and be
glad, O Daughter of
Zion, for I am coming to dwell among you,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah
joy and
gladness, and
cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: The fasts of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months will become times of
joy and
gladness,
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore you are to love both truth and peace.”
And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall
rejoice as through wine:
yea, their children shall see it, and be
glad; their heart shall
rejoice in the LORD.
Ephraim will be like a mighty man, and their hearts will be
glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be
joyful; their hearts will
rejoice in the LORD.
When they saw the star, they
rejoiced with exceeding great
joy.
When they saw the star, they
rejoiced with great delight.
But he that received the seed into
stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and
anon with
joy receiveth it;
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
