He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
He is the one who will build a house for My Name. He will be My son, and I will be his Father. And I will establish the throne of his
kingdom over Israel
forever.’

king over Israel.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the
king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the
king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the
king, and
Zadok, and
Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.
As their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, they also cast lots in the presence of
King David and of
Zadok,
Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites—the family heads and their younger brothers alike.
Of the sons of
Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of
Asaph under the hands of
Asaph, which
prophesied according to the order of the
king.
From the sons of
Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. These sons of
Asaph were under the direction of
Asaph, who
prophesied under the direction of the
king.
All these were the sons of Heman the
king’s
seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these sons of Heman the
king’s
seer were given him through the promises of God to
exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals,
psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the
king’s order to
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman.
All these were under the direction of their fathers for the music of the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God.
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the
king.
Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.
This Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all the
treasuries for the things dedicated by
King David, by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and by the army commanders.
And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.
From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, had charge of the affairs of Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and for the service of the king.
And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom
king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the
king.
Among Jerijah’s relatives there were 2,700 capable men who were heads of families.
King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and to the affairs of the
king.
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the
king in every matter concerning the divisions on
rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of
king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of
King David.
And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:
Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses.
Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses.
And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s.
Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these officials were in charge of King David’s property.
Also
Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a
scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the
king’s sons:
David’s uncle
Jonathan was a
counselor; he was a man of insight and a
scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the
king.
And
Ahithophel was the
king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the
king’s companion:
And after
Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and
Abiathar: and the general of the
king’s army was
Joab.
Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then by
Abiathar.
Joab was the commander of the
king’s army.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the
king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the
king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the
king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the
king and his sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of
valor.
Then David the
king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the
footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then
King David rose to his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be
king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me
king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be
king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me
king over all Israel.
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his
kingdom forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
Furthermore David the
king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,
Then the leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
Then the people
rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the
king also
rejoiced with great joy.
And the people
rejoiced at the willing
response of their leaders, for they had given to the LORD freely and wholeheartedly. And
King David also
rejoiced greatly.
Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the
kingdom, O LORD, and thou art
exalted as head above all.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O LORD, is the
kingdom, and You are
exalted as head over all.
And David said to all the congregation, Now
bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the
king.
Then David said to the whole assembly, “Blessed be the LORD your God.” So the whole assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers. They bowed down and paid
homage to the LORD and to the
king.
And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David
king the second time, and
anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and
Zadok to be priest.
That day they
ate and
drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD. Then, for a second time, they designated David’s son Solomon as
king,
anointing him before the LORD as ruler, and
Zadok as the priest.
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as
king instead of David his father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as
king in place of his father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
All the officials and mighty men, as well as all of
King David’s sons,
pledged their allegiance to
King Solomon.
And the LORD
magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any
king before him in Israel.
The LORD highly
exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been bestowed on any
king in Israel before him.
Thus David the son of
Jesse reigned over all Israel.
David son of
Jesse was
king over all Israel.
Now the acts of David the
king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the
seer, and in the book of
Nathan the prophet, and in the book of
Gad the
seer,
Now the acts of
King David, from first to last, are indeed written in the Chronicles of Samuel the
Seer, the Chronicles of
Nathan the Prophet, and the Chronicles of
Gad the
Seer,
With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
together with all the details of his reign, his might, and the circumstances that came upon him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the lands.
And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his
kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now Solomon son of David established himself securely over his
kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and highly
exalted him.
And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his
stead.
Solomon replied to God: “You have shown much loving devotion to my father David, and You have made me king in his place.
Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to my father David be fulfilled. For You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee
king:
God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart instead of requesting riches or wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you
king—
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
therefore wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will also give you riches and wealth and honor unlike anything given to the kings before you or after you.”
Solomon accumulated 1,400
chariots and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
And the
king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as
plenteous as stones, and
cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the
vale for abundance.
The
king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar as abundant as
sycamore in the foothills.
And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and Kue; the royal merchants purchased them from Kue.
And they
fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a
chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the
kings of the
Hittites, and for the
kings of Syria, by their means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. Likewise, they exported them to all the
kings of the
Hittites and to the
kings of
Aram.
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
And Solomon sent to Huram the
king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
Then
Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon: “Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as
king.”
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the
king a wise son,
endued with
prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his
kingdom.
And
Hiram added: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given
King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God;
Additionally, Huram made the pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished the work that he had undertaken for
King Solomon in the house of God:
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredathah.
The king had them cast in clay molds in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth and Zeredah.
Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month.
So all the men of Israel came together to the king at the feast in the seventh month.
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.
And as the whole assembly of Israel stood there, the king turned around and blessed them all
Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.
And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the
king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which
King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded
trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy
kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
And these were the chief of king Solomon’s officers, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people.
They were also the chief officers for King Solomon: 250 supervisors.
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David
king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.
They did not turn aside from the
king’s command regarding the priests or the Levites or any matter concerning the
treasuries.
And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to
king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along with crews of experienced sailors. They went with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to
King Solomon.
And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on His throne to be
king for the LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them
forever, He has made you
king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And she gave the
king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such
spice as the queen of
Sheba gave
king Solomon.
Then she gave the
king 120 talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. There had never been such spices as those the queen of
Sheba gave to
King Solomon.
And the
king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the
king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.
The
king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the
king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything like them been seen in the land of Judah.)
And
king Solomon gave to the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the
king. So she turned, and went away to her own land, she and her servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—far more than she had brought the
king. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
Beside that which
chapmen and merchants brought. And all the
kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
not including the revenue from the merchants and traders. And all the Arabian kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
And
king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one
target.
King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of hammered gold went into each shield.
And three hundred shields made he of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold went to one shield. And the
king put them in the house of the forest of
Lebanon.
He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; three hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. And the
king put them in the House of the Forest of
Lebanon.
Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.
Additionally, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And all the drinking vessels of
king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All
King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
For the
king’s ships went to
Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of
Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the
king had the ships of
Tarshish that went with
Hiram’s servants, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the
kings of the earth sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.
And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and
chariots, and twelve thousand
horsemen; whom he bestowed in the
chariot cities, and with the
king at Jerusalem.
Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and
chariots, and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.
He reigned over all the kings from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.
And the
king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.
The
king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and
cedar as abundant as
sycamore in the foothills.
Then
Rehoboam went to
Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him
king.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,
whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the
king, heard it, that
Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from
King Solomon.
And
king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
Then
King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam on the third day, as the
king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
After three days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the
king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”
And the
king answered them roughly; and
king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
And the
king answered them harshly.
King Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders
So the
king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the
king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
And when all Israel saw that the
king would not
hearken unto them, the people answered the
king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of
Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the
king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the
king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
Then
king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But
king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then
King Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And
King Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the
kingdom again to
Rehoboam.
When
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the house of Judah and Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against Israel and restore the
kingdom to
Rehoboam.
Speak unto
Rehoboam the son of Solomon,
king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of Solomon
king of Judah and all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin
So they strengthened the
kingdom of Judah, and made
Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
So they strengthened the
kingdom of Judah and supported
Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
And
Rehoboam made
Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him
king.
Rehoboam appointed
Abijah son of
Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to make him
king.
And it came to pass, when
Rehoboam had established the
kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he
forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.
After
Rehoboam had established his sovereignty and royal power, he and all Israel with him
forsook the Law of the LORD.
And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of
king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had
transgressed against the LORD,
In the fifth year of
Rehoboam’s reign, because they had been unfaithful to the LORD,
Shishak king of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem
Whereupon the princes of Israel and the
king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.
So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The LORD is righteous.”
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
Nevertheless, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving Me and serving the kings of other lands.”
So
Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the
king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
So
King Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem and seized the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made.
Instead of which
king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the
king’s house.
Then
King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And when the
king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and
fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
And whenever the
king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would go with him, bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
So
king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus
King Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became
king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
