knowledge.

foolish man; you will gain no
knowledge from his speech.

knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger
doth not
intermeddle with his joy.
The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares in its joy.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
Wisdom rests in the heart of the
discerning; even among fools she is
known.
The tongue of the wise useth
knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out
foolishness.
The tongue of the wise commends
knowledge, but the mouth of the
fool spouts folly.

disperse knowledge: but the heart of the
foolish doeth not so.

foolishness.

knowledge.

stray from the words of
knowledge.

knowledge—

stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I
awake? I will seek it yet again.

know it! When can I
wake up to search for another drink?”

knowledge increaseth strength.

If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not;
doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul,
doth not he
know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
If you say, “Behold, we did not know about this,” does not He who weighs hearts consider it? Does not the One who guards your life know? Will He not repay a man according to his deeds?

calamity shall rise suddenly; and who
knoweth the ruin of them both?
For they will bring sudden destruction. Who knows what ruin they can bring?
Go not forth
hastily to
strive, lest thou
know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

hastily to court. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your
neighbor puts you to shame?
Do not
boast about
tomorrow, for you do not
know what a day may bring.
Be thou
diligent to
know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and
knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
A land in rebellion has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

stingy man hastens after wealth and does not
know that poverty awaits him.

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in His hands? Who has bound up the waters in His
cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is the name of His Son— surely you
know!
There be three things which are too wonderful for me,
yea, four which I
know not:
There are three things too wonderful for me, four that I cannot understand:
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Her husband is known at the city gate, where he sits among the elders of the land.
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have
gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem:
yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and
knowledge.
I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
And I gave my heart to
know wisdom, and to
know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is
vexation of spirit.
So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases.
And who
knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a
fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
And who
knows whether that man will be wise or
foolish? Yet he will take over all the labor at which I have worked
skillfully under the sun. This too is
futile.
For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in
knowledge, and in
equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
When there is a man who has labored with wisdom,
knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a man who has not worked for it, this too is
futile and a great evil.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and
knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and
knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
I
know that there is no good in them, but for a man to
rejoice, and to do good in his life.
I
know that there is nothing better for them than to
rejoice and do good while they live,
I
know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
I
know that everything God does endures
forever; nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God does it so that they should fear Him.
Who
knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth
downward to the earth?
Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and the spirit of the animal descends into the earth?
Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and
foolish king, who will no more be
admonished.
Better is a poor but wise youth than an old but
foolish king who no longer
knows how to take a
warning.
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Draw near to
listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not
know that they do wrong.
For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a
fool’s voice is
known by multitude of words.
As a dream comes through many cares, so the speech of a
fool comes with many words.
Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.
The child, though neither seeing the sun nor knowing anything, has more rest than that man,
For what hath the wise more than the
fool? what hath the poor, that
knoweth to walk before the living?
What advantage, then, has the wise man over the
fool? What gain comes to the poor man who
knows how to conduct himself before others?
That which hath been is named already, and it is
known that it is man: neither may he
contend with him that is mightier than he.
Whatever exists was named long ago, and what happens to a man is
foreknown; but he cannot
contend with one stronger than he.
For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
For who knows what is good for a man during the few days in which he passes through his fleeting life like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will come after him under the sun?
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the
excellency of
knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
For wisdom, like money, is a shelter, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of its owner.
For you
know in your heart that many times you
yourself have
cursed others.
I applied mine heart to
know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to
know the wickedness of folly, even of
foolishness and madness:
I directed my mind to understand, to
explore, to search out wisdom and explanations, and to understand the
stupidity of wickedness and the folly of madness.
Who is as the wise man? and who
knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to
shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
Who is like the wise man? Who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man’s wisdom brightens his face, and the sternness of his face is changed.
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.
Whoever keeps his command will come to no
harm, and a wise heart
knows the right time and procedure.
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
Since no one knows what will happen, who can tell him what is to come?
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I
know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also
know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
When I applied mine heart to
know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night
seeth sleep with his eyes:)
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—
Then I
beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it;
yea further; though a wise man think to
know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
I saw every work of God, and that a man is unable to
comprehend the work that is done under the sun.
Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to
know, he is unable to
comprehend.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
So I took all this to heart and concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their deeds, are in God’s hands. Man does not
know what lies
ahead, whether love or
hate.
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor
device, nor
knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave,
whither thou goest.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might, for in
Sheol, where you are going, there is no work or
planning or
knowledge or wisdom.
For man also
knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men
snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
For surely no man
knows his time: Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds
trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an evil time that suddenly falls upon them.
A
fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
Yet the
fool multiplies words. No one
knows what is coming, and who can tell him what will come after him?
The labour of the
foolish wearieth every one of them, because he
knoweth not how to go to the city.
The
toil of a
fool wearies him, for he does not
know the way to the city.
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
Divide your portion among seven, or even eight, for you do not
know what
disaster may
befall the land.
As thou
knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the
womb of her that is with child: even so thou
knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
As you do not
know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s
womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
In the morning
sow thy seed, and in the evening
withhold not thine hand: for thou
knowest not whether shall
prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not
know which will succeed, whether this or that, or if both will equally
prosper.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart
cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but
know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be
glad in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but
know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.
And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people
knowledge;
yea, he gave good
heed, and sought out, and set in order many
proverbs.
Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also taught the people
knowledge; he
pondered, searched out, and arranged many
proverbs.
If thou
know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the
shepherds’ tents.
If you do not
know, O fairest of women, follow the tracks of the flock, and
graze your young goats near the tents of the
shepherds.
The ox
knoweth his owner, and the
ass his master’s
crib: but Israel
doth not
know, my people
doth not consider.
The ox
knows its owner, and the
donkey its master’s
manger, but Israel does not
know; My people do not understand.”
Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no
knowledge: and their honourable men are
famished, and their multitude dried up with
thirst.
That say, Let him make speed, and
hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw
nigh and come, that we may
know it!
to those who say, “Let Him
hurry and
hasten His work so that we may see it! Let the plan of the Holy One of Israel come so that we may
know it!”
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
By the time He
knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, He will be eating curds and honey.
For before the child shall
know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be
forsaken of both her kings.
For before the boy
knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you
dread will be laid waste.
For before the child shall have
knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the
spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
For before the boy
knows how to cry ‘Father’ or ‘Mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the
plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”
And all the people shall
know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and
stoutness of heart,
All the people will
know it— Ephraim and the dwellers of Samaria. With pride and
arrogance of heart they will say:
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD.
They shall not
hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the
knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
They will neither
harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the
knowledge of the LORD as the sea is full of water.
And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is
exalted.
and on that day you will say: “Give praise to the LORD;
proclaim His name! Make His works
known among the peoples; declare that His name is
exalted.
Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, for He has done glorious things. Let this be known in all the earth.
Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
Where are your wise men now? Let them tell you and
reveal what the LORD of Hosts has
planned against Egypt.
And the LORD shall be
known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall
know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and
oblation;
yea, they shall
vow a
vow unto the LORD, and perform it.
The LORD will make Himself
known to Egypt, and on that day Egypt will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and
fulfill them.
Whom shall he teach
knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are
weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
Whom is He trying to teach? To whom is He explaining His message? To infants just
weaned from milk? To
babies removed from the breast?
Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who
seeth us? and who
knoweth us?
Woe to those who
dig deep to hide their plans from the LORD. In darkness they do their works and say, “Who sees us, and who will
know?”
The heart also of the
rash shall understand
knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
And wisdom and
knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his
treasure.
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a
storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and
knowledge. The fear of the LORD is
Zion’s
treasure.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
But I
know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy
rage against me.
But I
know your sitting down, your going out and coming in, and your
raging against Me.
