For when I shall have brought them into the
land which I
sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and
provoke me, and break my covenant.
When I have brought them into the
land that I
swore to give their fathers, a
land flowing with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and
prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will
reject Me and break My covenant.
And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are
befallen them, that this song shall
testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the
land which I
sware.
And when many troubles and afflictions have come upon them, this song will
testify against them, because it will not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants. For I know their inclination, even before I bring them into the
land that I
swore to give them.”
And he gave Joshua the son of
Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the
land which I
sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of
Nun and said, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the
land that I
swore to give them, and I will be with you.”
He found him in a desert
land, and in the waste
howling wilderness; he led him about, he
instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
He found him in a desert
land, in a barren,
howling wilderness; He surrounded him, He
instructed him, He guarded him as the apple of His eye.
He made him
ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to
suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the
flinty rock;
He made him
ride on the heights of the
land and fed him the produce of the field. He
nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from the
flinty crag,
Rejoice, O heavens, with Him, and let all God’s angels worship Him.
Rejoice, O nations, with His people; for He will
avenge the blood of His children. He will take
vengeance on His
adversaries and repay those who
hate Him; He will
cleanse His
land and His people.
For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall
prolong your days in the
land,
whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
For they are not idle words to you, because they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount
Nebo, which is in the
land of Moab, that is over against
Jericho; and behold the
land of
Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
“Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount
Nebo, in the
land of Moab across from
Jericho, and view the
land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their own possession.
Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.
Although you shall see from a distance the land that I am giving the Israelites, you shall not enter it.”
And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his
land, for the precious things of heaven, for the
dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,
Concerning Joseph he said: “May his
land be blessed by the LORD with the precious
dew from heaven above and the deep waters that lie beneath,
And for the precious things of the earth and
fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the
bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
with the choice gifts of the
land and everything in it, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning
bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the
lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.
He chose the best land for himself, because a ruler’s portion was reserved for him there. He came with the leaders of the people; he administered the LORD’s justice and His ordinances for Israel.”
Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a
land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down
dew.
So Israel dwells securely; the fountain of Jacob lives untroubled in a
land of grain and new wine, where even the heavens
drip with
dew.
And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of
Nebo, to the top of
Pisgah, that is over against
Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the
land of
Gilead, unto
Dan,
Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount
Nebo, to the top of
Pisgah, which faces
Jericho. And the LORD showed him the whole
land—from
Gilead as far as
Dan,
And all
Naphtali, and the
land of Ephraim, and
Manasseh, and all the
land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,
all of
Naphtali, the
land of Ephraim and
Manasseh, all the
land of Judah as far as the Western Sea,
And the LORD said unto him, This is the
land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
And the LORD said to him, “This is the
land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, as the LORD had said.
And he buried him in a valley in the
land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his
sepulchre unto this day.
And He buried him in a valley in the
land of Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows the
location of his grave.
In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
no prophet who did all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent Moses to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his officials and all his land,
Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, you and all these people, and cross over the Jordan into the land that I am giving to the children of Israel.
From the wilderness and this
Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the
land of the
Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
Your territory shall extend from the wilderness and
Lebanon to the great River Euphrates—all the
land of the
Hittites—and west as far as the Great Sea.
Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the
land, which I
sware unto their fathers to give them.
Be strong and
courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the
land that I
swore to their fathers I would give them.
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you
victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the
land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
“Remember what Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
Your wives, your young children, and your
livestock may remain in the
land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of
valor must be armed for battle to cross over
ahead of your brothers and help them,
Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the
land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the
land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the
sunrising.
until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”
And Joshua the son of
Nun sent out of
Shittim two men to
spy secretly, saying, Go view the
land, even
Jericho. And they went, and came into an
harlot’s house, named
Rahab, and
lodged there.
And it was told the king of
Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in
hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
And it was reported to the king of
Jericho: “Behold, some men of Israel have come here
tonight to
spy out the
land.”
And the king of
Jericho sent unto
Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
So the king of
Jericho sent to
Rahab and said, “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, for they have come to
spy out the whole
land.”
And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the
land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the
land faint because of you.
and said to them, “I know that the LORD has given you this land and that the fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of you.
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
“Our lives for your lives!” the men agreed. “If you do not report our mission, we will show you kindness and faithfulness when the LORD gives us the land.”
Behold, when we come into the
land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou
didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
unless, when we enter the
land, you have
tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house.
And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the
land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do
faint because of us.
“The LORD has surely delivered the entire land into our hands,” they said to Joshua. “Indeed, all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of us.”
And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
you are to tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD
sware that he would not
shew them the
land, which the LORD
sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a
land that floweth with milk and honey.
For the Israelites had
wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD
vowed never to let them see the
land He had
sworn to their fathers to give us, a
land flowing with milk and honey.
And the
manna ceased on the
morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the
land; neither had the children of Israel
manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the
land of
Canaan that year.
And the day after they had eaten from the produce of the
land, the
manna ceased. There was no more
manna for the Israelites, so that year they began to eat the crops of the
land of
Canaan.
But Joshua had said unto the two men that had
spied out the country, Go into the
harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye
sware unto her.
Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had
spied out the
land, “Go into the house of the
prostitute and bring out the woman and all who are with her, just as you promised her.”
So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
And Joshua sent men from
Jericho to
Ai, which is beside Beth-
aven, on the east side of
Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed
Ai.
Meanwhile, Joshua sent men from
Jericho to
Ai, which is near Beth-
aven to the east of
Bethel, and told them, “Go up and
spy out the
land.” So the men went up and
spied out
Ai.
For the
Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the
land shall hear of it, and shall
environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what
wilt thou do unto thy great name?
When the
Canaanites and all who live in the
land hear about this, they will
surround us and
wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to
Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of
Ai, and his people, and his city, and his
land:
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack
Ai. See, I have delivered into your hand the king of
Ai, his people, his city, and his
land.
And they went to Joshua unto the camp at
Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country: now therefore make ye a league with us.
They went to Joshua in the camp at
Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel, “We have come from a distant
land; please make a treaty with us.”
And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
“Your servants have come from a very distant land,” they replied, “because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard the reports about Him: all that He did in Egypt,
Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take
victuals with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: therefore now make ye a league with us.
So the elders and inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions for your journey; go to meet them and say to them: We are your servants. Please make a treaty with us.’
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the
land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the
land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the
land and
wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.
And because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel, Joshua captured all these kings and their land in one campaign.
And to the
Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under
Hermon in the
land of Mizpeh.
So Joshua took all that
land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the
land of
Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
So Joshua took this entire region: the hill country, all the Negev, all the
land of
Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah, and the mountains of Israel and their foothills,
There was none of the Anakims left in the
land of the children of Israel: only in
Gaza, in
Gath, and in
Ashdod, there remained.
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to the allotments to their tribes. Then the land had rest from war.
Now these are the kings of the
land, which the children of Israel
smote, and possessed their
land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river
Arnon unto mount
Hermon, and all the plain on the east:
Now these are the kings of the
land whom the Israelites struck down and whose
lands they took beyond the Jordan to the east, from the
Arnon Valley to Mount
Hermon, including all the Arabah eastward:
Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel
smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh.
Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had struck them down and given their
land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh.
And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel
smote on this side Jordan on the west, from
Baal-
gad in the valley of
Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to
Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;
And these are the kings of the
land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered beyond the Jordan to the west, from
Baal-
gad in the Valley of
Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward
Seir (according to the allotments to the tribes of Israel, Joshua gave them as an inheritance
In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the
Hittites, the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, the
Perizzites, the
Hivites, and the Jebusites:
the hill country, the foothills, the Arabah, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev—the
lands of the
Hittites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites):
Now Joshua was old and
stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and
stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much
land to be possessed.
Now Joshua was old and well along in years, and the LORD said to him, “You are old and well along in years, but very much of the land remains to be possessed.
This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,
This is the land that remains:
From the south, all the
land of the
Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the
Amorites:
to the south, all the
land of the
Canaanites, from Mearah of the Sidonians to Aphek, as far as the border of the
Amorites;
Now therefore divide this
land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of
Manasseh,
Now therefore divide this
land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of
Manasseh.”
And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the
Amorites, which reigned in
Heshbon, whom Moses
smote with the princes of
Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
all the cities of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the
Amorites, who reigned in
Heshbon until Moses killed him and the chiefs of
Midian (Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba), the princes of Sihon who lived in the
land.
And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of
Gilead, and half the
land of the children of
Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;
The territory of Jazer, all the cities of
Gilead, and half the
land of the
Ammonites as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;
And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the
land of
Canaan, which
Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of
Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.
Now these are the portions that the Israelites inherited in the
land of
Canaan, as distributed by
Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of Israel.
For the children of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the
land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the
land was given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.
So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they divided the land.
Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
espy out the
land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
spy out the
land, and I brought back to him an
honest report.
And Moses
sware on that day, saying, Surely the
land whereon thy feet have
trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
On that day Moses
swore to me, saying, ‘Surely the
land on which you have set foot will be an inheritance to you and your children
forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’
And the name of
Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the
land had rest from war.
(
Hebron used to be called Kiriath-arba, after Arba, the greatest man among the
Anakim.) Then the
land had rest from war.
Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south
land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the
nether springs.
“Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me
land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So
Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.
And there fell ten portions to
Manasseh, beside the
land of
Gilead and
Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
Because the daughters of
Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of
Manasseh’s sons had the
land of
Gilead.
because the daughters of
Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the
land of
Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of
Manasseh.
Now
Manasseh had the
land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of
Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;
The region of Tappuah belonged to
Manasseh, but Tappuah itself, on the border of
Manasseh, belonged to Ephraim.
Yet the children of
Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the
Canaanites would dwell in that
land.
But the descendants of
Manasseh were unable to occupy these cities, because the
Canaanites were determined to stay in this
land.
And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for
thyself there in the
land of the
Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
Joshua answered them, “If you have so many people that the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go to the forest and clear for
yourself an area in the
land of the
Perizzites and the
Rephaim.”
And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the
Canaanites that dwell in the
land of the valley have
chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of
Jezreel.
“The hill country is not enough for us,” they replied, “and all the
Canaanites who live in the valley have iron
chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of
Jezreel.”
And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at
Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the
land was subdued before them.
Then the whole congregation of Israel assembled at
Shiloh and set up the Tent of Meeting there. And though the
land was subdued before them,
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye
slack to go to possess the
land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?
So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.
Appoint three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to survey the
land and map it out, according to the inheritance of each. Then they will return to me
And they shall divide it into seven parts: Judah shall
abide in their coast on the south, and the house of Joseph shall
abide in their coasts on the north.
and divide the land into seven portions. Judah shall remain in their territory in the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory in the north.
Ye shall therefore describe the
land into seven parts, and bring the description
hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.
When you have
mapped out the seven portions of
land and brought it to me, I will cast lots for you here in the presence of the LORD our God.
And the men arose, and went away: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the
land, saying, Go and walk through the
land, and describe it, and come again to me, that I may here cast lots for you before the LORD in
Shiloh.
As the men got up to go out, Joshua commanded them to map out the
land, saying, “Go and survey the
land, map it out, and return to me. Then I will cast lots for you here in
Shiloh in the presence of the LORD.”
And the men went and passed through the
land, and described it by cities into seven parts in a book, and came again to Joshua to the host at
Shiloh.
So the men departed and went throughout the
land,
mapping it city by city into seven portions. Then they returned with the document to Joshua at the camp in
Shiloh.
And Joshua cast lots for them in
Shiloh before the LORD: and there Joshua divided the
land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.
And Joshua cast lots for them in the presence of the LORD at
Shiloh, where he distributed the
land to the Israelites according to their divisions.
When they had made an end of dividing the
land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of
Nun among them:
When they had finished distributing the
land into its territories, the Israelites gave Joshua son of
Nun an inheritance among them,
These are the inheritances which
Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of
Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in
Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.
These are the inheritances that
Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the heads of the families distributed by lot to the tribes of Israel at
Shiloh before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. So they finished dividing up the
land.
And they spake unto them at
Shiloh in the
land of
Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.
at
Shiloh in the
land of
Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our
livestock.”
And the LORD gave unto Israel all the
land which he
sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
Thus the LORD gave Israel all the
land He had
sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it.
And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.
And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.
Now to the one half of the tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given possession in
Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
(To the half-tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given
land in
Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave
land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
And the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of
Shiloh, which is in the
land of
Canaan, to go unto the country of
Gilead, to the
land of their possession,
whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh left the Israelites at
Shiloh in the
land of
Canaan to return to their own
land of
Gilead, which they had acquired according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the
land of
Canaan, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.
And when they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the
land of
Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.
And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar over against the
land of
Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
Then the Israelites received the report: “Behold, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh have built an altar on the border of the
land of
Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the
Israelite side.”
And they came unto the children of
Reuben, and to the children of
Gad, and to the half tribe of
Manasseh, unto the
land of
Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,
They went to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh in the
land of
Gilead and said to them,
Notwithstanding, if the
land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the
land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD’S tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but
rebel not against the LORD, nor
rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God.
If indeed the
land of your inheritance is unclean, then cross over to the
land of the LORD’s possession, where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take possession of it among us. But do not
rebel against the LORD or against us by building for
yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.
And
Phinehas the son of
Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of
Reuben, and from the children of
Gad, out of the
land of
Gilead, unto the
land of
Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.
Then
Phinehas son of
Eleazar the priest, together with the other leaders, returned to the Israelites in the
land of
Canaan and brought back a report regarding the Reubenites and Gadites in the
land of
Gilead.
And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the
land wherein the children of
Reuben and
Gad dwelt.
The Israelites were satisfied with the report, and they blessed God and spoke no more about going to war against them to destroy the land where the Reubenites and Gadites lived.
And the LORD your God, he shall
expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their
land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.
The LORD your God will
push them out of your way and drive them out before you, so that you can take possession of their
land, as the LORD your God promised you.
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good
land which the LORD your God hath given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good
land that the LORD your God has given you.
