Then said David, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the
land of the children of
Ammon.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when they arrived in the
land of the
Ammonites,
To
fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant
Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
Joab your servant has done this to bring about this change of affairs, but my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that happens in the
land.”
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the
land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
And he would add, “If only someone would
appoint me judge in the
land, then
everyone with a
grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would give him justice.”
And all the people were at
strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the
land for
Absalom.
And all the people throughout the tribes of Israel were
arguing, “The king
rescued us from the hand of our enemies and delivered us from the hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled the
land because of
Absalom.
And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.
The king replied, “Why say any more? I
hereby declare that you and Ziba are to divide the
land.”
And the bones of Saul and
Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the
sepulchre of
Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the
land.
And they buried the bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan in Zela in the
land of Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul’s father
Kish. After they had done everything the king had commanded, God answered their prayers for the
land.
Then they came to
Gilead, and to the
land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to
Dan-jaan, and about to Zidon,
Then they went to
Gilead and the
land of Tahtim-hodshi, and on to
Dan-jaan and around to
Sidon.
So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
At the end of nine months and twenty days, having gone through the whole land, they returned to Jerusalem.
So
Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy
land? or
wilt thou
flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’
pestilence in thy
land? now
advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
So
Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to
endure three years of famine in your
land, three months of
fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three days of plague upon your
land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then the LORD answered the prayers on behalf of the
land, and the plague upon Israel was
halted.
The son of Hesed, in Aruboth; to him
pertained Sochoh, and all the
land of Hepher:
Ben-hesed in Arubboth (Socoh and all the land of Hepher belonged to him);
Geber the son of
Uri was in the country of
Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the
Amorites, and of
Og king of
Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the
land.
Geber son of
Uri in the
land of
Gilead, including the territories of Sihon king of the
Amorites and of
Og king of
Bashan. There was also one governor in the
land of Judah.
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And it came to pass in the four hundred and
eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the
land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month
Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
In the four hundred and
eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of the
land of Egypt, in the month of Ziv, the second month of the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, he began to build the house of the LORD.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the
land of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of the
land of Egypt.
And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with our fathers when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”
Then hear thou in heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the
land which thou gavest unto their fathers.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the
land You gave to their fathers.
Then hear thou in heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy
land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send rain on the
land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
When famine or plague comes upon the
land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemy besieges them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
so that they may fear You all the days they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name’s sake;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your name—
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away
captives unto the
land of the enemy, far or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to his own
land, whether far or near,
and when they come to their senses in the
land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the
land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the
land of their enemies, which led them away
captive, and pray unto thee toward their
land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the
land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray to You in the direction of the
land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
Then will I cut off Israel out of the
land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a
proverb and a
byword among all people:
then I will cut off Israel from the
land that I have given them, and I will
banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My Name. Then Israel will become an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all peoples.
And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be
astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this
land, and to this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and will hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this
land and to this temple?’
And they shall answer, Because they
forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the
land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the
land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, the LORD has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
(Now
Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with
cedar trees and
fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave
Hiram twenty cities in the
land of
Galilee.
King Solomon gave twenty towns in the
land of
Galilee to
Hiram king of Tyre, who had supplied him with
cedar and
cypress logs and gold for his every desire.
And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the
land of
Cabul unto this day.
“What are these towns you have given me, my brother?” asked
Hiram, and he called them the
Land of
Cabul, as they are called to this day.
and Baalath, and
Tadmor in the wilderness, in the
land,
Baalath, and Tamar in the Wilderness of Judah,
And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his
chariots, and cities for his
horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and in all the
land of his dominion.
as well as all the store cities that Solomon had for his
chariots and horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the
land of his dominion.
Their children that were left after them in the
land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon
levy a tribute of
bondservice unto this day.
their descendants who remained in the
land, those whom the Israelites were unable to
devote to destruction—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-
geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the
land of
Edom.
King Solomon also assembled a fleet of ships at Ezion-
geber, which is near Eloth in
Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.
And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Beside that he had of the
merchantmen, and of the
traffick of the
spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.
not including the revenue from the merchants, traders, and all the Arabian kings and governors of the land.
And they arose out of
Midian, and came to
Paran: and they took men with them out of
Paran, and they came to Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt; which gave him an house, and appointed him
victuals, and gave him
land.
Hadad and his men set out from
Midian and went to
Paran. They took men from
Paran with them and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave
Hadad a house and
land and provided him with food.
Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two
calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the
land of Egypt.
After seeking advice, the king made two golden
calves and said to the people, “Going up to Jerusalem is too much for you. Here, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the
land of Egypt.”
For the LORD shall
smite Israel, as a reed is
shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good
land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall
scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves,
provoking the LORD to anger.
For the LORD will strike Israel as a reed is
shaken in the water. He will
uproot Israel from this good
land that He gave their fathers, and He will
scatter them beyond the Euphrates, because they have made their Asherah poles,
provoking the LORD to anger.
And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
There were even male
shrine prostitutes in the
land. They imitated all the abominations of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
He banished the male
shrine prostitutes from the
land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
And it came to pass after a while, that the
brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the
land.
Some time later, however, the
brook dried up because there had been no rain in the
land.
And
Ahab said unto
Obadiah, Go into the
land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all
brooks:
peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
Then
Ahab said to
Obadiah, “Go throughout the
land to every spring and every valley. Perhaps we will find grass to keep the horses and mules alive so that we will not have to destroy any
livestock.”
So they divided the
land between them to pass throughout it:
Ahab went one way by himself, and
Obadiah went another way by himself.
So they divided the
land to
explore.
Ahab went one way by himself, and
Obadiah went the other way by himself.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
Then the king of Israel summoned all the elders of the land and said, “Please take note and see that this man is looking for trouble, for when he demanded my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold, I did not deny him.”
And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs
licked the blood of
Naboth shall dogs
lick thy blood, even thine.
Tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Have you not murdered a man and seized his
land?’ Then tell him that this is also what the LORD says: ‘In the place where the dogs
licked up the blood of
Naboth, there also the dogs will
lick up your blood—
yes, yours!’”
And there went a
proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
As the sun was setting, the cry
rang out in the army: “Every man to his own city, and every man to his own
land!”
And the
remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father
Asa, he took out of the
land.
He banished from the
land the male
shrine prostitutes who remained from the days of his father
Asa.
And the men of the city said unto
Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord
seeth: but the water is
naught, and the ground barren.
Then the men of the city said to
Elisha, “Please note, our lord, that the city’s
location is good, as you can see. But the water is bad and the
land is unfruitful.”
And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have
healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren
land.
and
Elisha went out to the spring, cast the salt into it, and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have
healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.’”
And ye shall
smite every
fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and
mar every good piece of
land with stones.
And you shall attack every fortified city and every city of importance. You shall cut down every good tree, stop up every spring, and ruin every good field with stones.”
And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of
Edom, and the country was filled with water.
The next morning, at the time of the morning sacrifice, water suddenly flowed from the direction of
Edom and filled the
land.
And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and
smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward
smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of
land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his
stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great
indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own
land.
So he took his
firstborn son, who was to succeed him, and offered him as a burnt offering on the city wall. And there was great
fury against the Israelites, so they withdrew and returned to their own
land.
And
Elisha came again to
Gilgal: and there was a
dearth in the
land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and
seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
When
Elisha returned to
Gilgal, there was a famine in the
land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting at his feet, he said to his
attendant, “Put on the large pot and
boil some
stew for the sons of the prophets.”
And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away
captive out of the
land of Israel a little
maid; and she waited on
Naaman’s wife.
At this time the Arameans had gone out in bands and had taken a young
girl from the
land of Israel, and she was serving
Naaman’s wife.
And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the
maid that is of the
land of Israel.
And
Naaman went and told his master what the
girl from the
land of Israel had said.
And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and
drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the
land of Israel.
So the king prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. And the
Aramean raiders did not come into the
land of Israel again.
Then spake
Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and
sojourn wheresoever thou canst
sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the
land seven years.
Now
Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Arise, you and your household; go and live as a foreigner wherever you can. For the LORD has decreed a seven-year famine, and it has already come to the
land.”
And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and
sojourned in the
land of the Philistines seven years.
So the woman had proceeded to do as the man of God had
instructed. And she and her household lived as foreigners for seven years in the
land of the Philistines.
And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
At the end of seven years, when the woman returned from the land of the Philistines, she went to the king to appeal for her house and her land.
And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life,
cried to the king for her house and for her
land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom
Elisha restored to life.
And Gehazi was telling the king how
Elisha had brought the dead back to life. Just then the woman whose son
Elisha had revived came to appeal to the king for her house and her
land. So Gehazi said, “My lord the king, this is the woman, and this is the son
Elisha restored to life.”
And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
When the king asked the woman, she confirmed it. So the king appointed for her an officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, along with all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the country until now.”
From Jordan eastward, all the
land of
Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river
Arnon, even
Gilead and
Bashan.
And he was with her
hid in the house of the LORD six years. And
Athaliah did reign over the
land.
And
Joash remained hidden with his
nurse in the house of the LORD for six years while
Athaliah ruled the
land.
And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a
pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the
land rejoiced, and
blew with
trumpets: and
Athaliah rent her clothes, and
cried, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw the king standing by the
pillar, according to the custom. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the
land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets. Then
Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason! Treason!”
And all the people of the
land went into the house of
Baal, and
brake it down; his altars and his images
brake they in pieces thoroughly, and
slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
So all the people of the
land went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the altars and idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of
Baal in front of the altars. And Jehoiada the priest posted guards for the house of the LORD.
And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
He took with him the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, the guards, and all the people of the
land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace by way of the Gate of the Guards. Then
Joash took his seat on the royal throne,
And all the people of the
land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they
slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
and all the people of the
land rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because
Athaliah had been put to the sword at the royal palace.
And
Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the
land at the coming in of the year.
And
Elisha died and was buried. Now the
Moabite raiders used to come into the
land every spring.
And the LORD
smote the king, so that he was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the house, judging the people of the
land.
And the LORD
afflicted the king with
leprosy until the day he died, so that he lived in a separate house while his son Jotham had charge of the palace and governed the people of the
land.
And
Pul the king of Assyria came against the
land: and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to
confirm the kingdom in his hand.
Then
Pul king of Assyria invaded the
land, and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver in order to gain his support and
strengthen his own
grip on the kingdom.
And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
Menahem exacted this money from each of the wealthy men of Israel—fifty shekels of silver from each man—to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and did not remain in the land.
In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and
Abel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and
Gilead, and
Galilee, all the
land of
Naphtali, and carried them
captive to Assyria.
In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and captured Ijon,
Abel-beth-
maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor,
Gilead, and
Galilee, including all the
land of
Naphtali, and he took the people as
captives to Assyria.
And king
Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the
land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and
sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the
brasen altar shall be for me to
enquire by.
Then King
Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, “Offer on the great altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the
land.
Sprinkle on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar to seek guidance.”
Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
Then the king of Assyria invaded the whole land, marched up to Samaria, and besieged it for three years.
For so it was, that the children of Israel had
sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the
land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
All this happened because the people of Israel had
sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them out of the
land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They had worshiped other gods
Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
Finally, the LORD removed Israel from His presence, as He had declared through all His servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their homeland into Assyria, where they are to this day.
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the
land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they
slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the
land.
So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Because of this, He has sent lions among them, which are indeed killing them off.”
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.
Instead, worship the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm. You are to bow down to Him and offer sacrifices to Him.
Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this place to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”
Until I come and take you away to a
land like your own
land, a
land of corn and wine, a
land of bread and vineyards, a
land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and
hearken not unto
Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
until I come and take you away to a
land like your own—a
land of grain and new wine, a
land of bread and vineyards, a
land of olive trees and honey—so that you may live and not die. But do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for he misleads you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’
Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own
land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste these nations and their lands.
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the
land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king
Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And
Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
Then the prophet Isaiah went to King
Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came from a distant
land,”
Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to
wander from the
land that I gave to their fathers, if only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
And the people of the
land slew all them that had
conspired against king Amon; and the people of the
land made
Josiah his son king in his
stead.
But the people of the
land killed all those who had
conspired against King Amon, and they made his son
Josiah king in his place.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the
land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the
land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
From
Megiddo his servants carried his body in a
chariot, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. Then the people of the
land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah,
anointed him, and made him king in place of his father.
And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the
land of
Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the
land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned
Jehoahaz at Riblah in the
land of
Hamath so that he could not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And
Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the
land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the
land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-nechoh.
So
Jehoiakim paid the silver and gold to Pharaoh Neco, but to meet Pharaoh’s demand he taxed the
land and exacted the silver and the gold from the people, each according to his wealth.
And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his
land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that
pertained to the king of Egypt.
Now the king of Egypt did not march out of his
land again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the
Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand
captives, and all the
craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the
land.
He carried into exile all Jerusalem—all the commanders and mighty men of
valor, all the
craftsmen and metalsmiths—ten thousand
captives in all. Only the poorest people of the
land remained.
