Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that
weave networks, shall be confounded.
The workers in flax will be dismayed, and the weavers of fine linen will turn pale.
Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of
Tarshish: there is no
more strength.
And he said, Thou shalt no
more rejoice, O thou
oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to
Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.
He said, “You shall
rejoice no
more, O
oppressed Virgin Daughter of
Sidon. Get up and cross over to
Cyprus— even there you will find no rest.”
For thou hast made of a city an
heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
Indeed, You have made the city a
heap of
rubble, the fortified town a ruin. The fortress of strangers is a city no
more; it will never be rebuilt.
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to
punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no
more cover her slain.
For behold, the LORD is coming out of His dwelling to
punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will
reveal her
bloodshed and will no longer
conceal her slain.
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as
chaff that passeth away:
yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
But your many foes will be like fine dust, the multitude of the
ruthless like blowing
chaff. Then suddenly, in an instant,
Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be
ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no
more will his face grow pale.
For the people shall dwell in
Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt
weep no
more: he will be very
gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.
O people in
Zion who dwell in Jerusalem, you will
weep no
more. He will surely be
gracious when you cry for help; when He hears, He will answer you.
And though the Lord give you the bread of
adversity, and the water of
affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any
more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
The Lord will give you the bread of
adversity and the water of
affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him.
Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be
sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
The light of the moon will be as bright as the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the LORD binds up the brokenness of His people and heals the wounds He has inflicted.
No longer will a
fool be called noble, nor a
scoundrel be respected.
Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the
vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.
In a little
more than a year you will
tremble, O secure ones. For the
grape harvest will fail and the fruit harvest will not arrive.
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
Then said
Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said
moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
I,
yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no
more.
Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
“Go down and sit in the dust, O Virgin Daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O Daughter of
Chaldea! For you will no longer be called tender or delicate.
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
“Sit in silence and go into darkness, O Daughter of
Chaldea. For you will no longer be called the queen of kingdoms.
Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of
trembling, even the
dregs of the cup of my
fury; thou shalt no
more drink it again:
Thus says your Lord, the LORD, even your God, who defends His people: “See, I have removed from your hand the cup of
staggering. From that
goblet, the cup of My
fury, you will never drink again.
Awake,
awake; put on thy strength, O
Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no
more come into thee the
uncircumcised and the unclean.
As many were
astonied at thee; his
visage was so
marred more than any man, and his form
more than the sons of men:
Just as many were
appalled at Him— His appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man, and His form was
marred beyond human likeness—
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for
more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because
more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
Fear not; for thou shalt not be
ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt
forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy
widowhood any
more.
Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; do not be
intimidated, for you will not be
humiliated. For you will
forget the shame of your youth and will remember no
more the reproach of your
widowhood.
For this is as the waters of
Noah unto me: for as I have
sworn that the waters of
Noah should no
more go over the earth; so have I
sworn that I would not be
wroth with thee, nor
rebuke thee.
“For to Me this is like the days of
Noah, when I
swore that the waters of
Noah would never again cover the earth. So I have
sworn that I will not be
angry with you or
rebuke you.
Come ye, say they, I will
fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to
morrow shall be as this day, and much
more abundant.
“Come, let me get the wine, let us
imbibe the strong drink, and
tomorrow will be like
today, only far better!”
Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders. But you will name your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
The sun shall be no
more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an
everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
No longer will the sun be your light by day, nor the brightness of the moon
shine on your night; for the LORD will be your
everlasting light, and your God will be your
splendor.
Thy sun shall no
more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine
everlasting light, and the days of thy
mourning shall be ended.
Your sun will no longer set, and your moon will not
wane; for the LORD will be your
everlasting light, and the days of your sorrow will cease.
Thou shalt no
more be termed
Forsaken; neither shall thy land any
more be termed
Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzi-
bah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.
No longer will you be called
Forsaken, nor your land named
Desolate; but you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you, and your land will be His
bride.
The LORD hath
sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no
more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
The LORD has
sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm: “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have
toiled.
And I will
rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of
weeping shall be no
more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
I will
rejoice in Jerusalem and take delight in My people. The sounds of
weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her.
There shall be no
more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the
sinner being an hundred years old shall be
accursed.
No longer will a
nursing infant live but a few days, or an old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered
accursed.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an
almond tree.
And the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” “I see a branch of an
almond tree,” I replied.
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: “Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of dense darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to
roam; we will come to You no
more’?
Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Moreover, your skirts are
stained with the blood of the innocent poor, though you did not find them breaking in. But in spite of all these things
Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not
prosper in them.
Moreover, you will leave that place with your hands on your head, for the LORD has rejected those you trust; you will not
prosper by their help.”
And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
“In those days, when you multiply and increase in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer
discuss the ark of the covenant of the LORD. It will never come to mind, and no one will remember it or miss it, nor will another one be made.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
At that time Jerusalem will be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations will be gathered in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. They will no longer follow the
stubbornness of their evil hearts.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly
glean the
remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “
Glean the
remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine. Pass your hand once
more like a
grape gatherer over the branches.”
Yet they
hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but
hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.
Yet they would not
listen to Me or
incline their ear, but they
stiffened their necks and did
more evil than their fathers.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no
more be called
Tophet, nor the valley of the son of
Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall
bury in
Tophet, till there be no place.
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of
Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no
more room.
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return?
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any
more, and to set up my curtains.
My tent is destroyed, and all its ropes are
snapped. My sons have departed from me and are no
more. I have no one left to pitch my tent or set up my curtains.
But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
For I was like a gentle lamb led to slaughter; I did not know that they had
plotted against me: “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be remembered no
more.”
Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a
spoiler at
noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
I will make their widows
more numerous than the sand of the sea. I will bring a destroyer at
noon against the mothers of young men. I will suddenly bring upon them
anguish and dismay.
And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not
hearken unto me:
And you have done
more evil than your fathers. See how each of you follows the
stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying Me.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no
more be called
Tophet, nor The valley of the son of
Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben-
hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall
bury them in
Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
and you are to
proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will
shatter this nation and this city, like one
shatters a
potter’s
jar that can never again be repaired. They will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no
more room to
bury them.
Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall
spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
I will give away all the wealth of this city—all its products and valuables, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah—to their enemies. They will
plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any
more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any
more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become
weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
Moreover, tell the house of the king of Judah to hear the word of the LORD.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no
more, nor see his native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never return to see his native land.
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of
Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of
Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any
more:
For this is what the LORD says concerning Shallum son of
Josiah, king of Judah, who succeeded his father
Josiah but has gone forth from this place: “He will never return,
But he shall die in the place
whither they have led him
captive, and shall see this land no
more.
but he will die in the place to which he was exiled; he will never see this land again.”
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not
prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall
prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any
more in Judah.
This is what the LORD says: “
Enroll this man as childless, a man who will not
prosper in his lifetime. None of his descendants will
prosper to sit on the throne of David or to rule again in Judah.”
And I will set up
shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no
more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
I will raise up
shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or dismayed, nor will any go missing, declares the LORD.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no
more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have
perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
But refer no
more to the burden of the LORD, for each man’s word becomes the burden, so that you
pervert the words of the living God, the LORD of Hosts, our God.
Moreover I will take from them the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the
candle.
Moreover, I will
banish from them the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.
Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be
drunken, and
spue, and fall, and rise no
more, because of the sword which I will send among you.
“Then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Drink, get
drunk, and
vomit. Fall down and never get up again, because of the sword I will send among you.’
Micah the Morasthite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Zion shall be
plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
“
Micah the
Moreshite prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah and told all the people of Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.’
For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will
burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no
more serve themselves of him:
On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will break the yoke off their necks and
tear off their bonds, and no longer will strangers
enslave them.
Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of
Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the
herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any
more at all.
They will come and
shout for joy on the heights of
Zion; they will be
radiant over the
bounty of the LORD— the grain, new wine, and oil, and the young of the flocks and herds. Their life will be like a well-watered garden, and never again will they
languish.
Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah,
lamentation, and bitter
weeping;
Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in
Ramah,
mourning and great
weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no
more.”
In those days they shall say no
more, The fathers have eaten a
sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.
“In those days, it will no longer be said: ‘The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge.’
And they shall teach no
more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no
more.
No longer will each man teach his
neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will
forgive their
iniquities and will remember their sins no
more.”
And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the
brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be
plucked up, nor thrown down any
more for ever.
The whole valley of the dead bodies and ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east, will be holy to the LORD. It will never again be uprooted or
demolished.”
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
While Jeremiah was still confined in the
courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time:
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Again in this place, which is
desolate without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, shall be an
habitation of
shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: In this
desolate place, without man or beast, and in all its cities, there will once
more be pastures for
shepherds to rest their flocks.
Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
Moreover, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have
despised my people, that they should be no
more a nation before them.
“Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they
despise My people and no longer regard them as a nation.
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any
more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
Moreover Jeremiah said unto king
Zedekiah, What have I
offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
Then Jeremiah asked King
Zedekiah, “How have I
sinned against you or your servants or these people, that you have put me in prison?
My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the
dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no
more bread in the city.
“My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have dropped him into the
cistern, where he will
starve to death, for there is no
more bread in the city.”
Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
When all the officials came to Jeremiah and questioned him, he relayed to them the exact words the king had commanded him to say. So they said no more to him, for no one had overheard the conversation.
Moreover he put out
Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.
Then he put out
Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with bronze chains to take him to Babylon.
Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to
Mizpah,
Meanwhile, Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah at
Mizpah For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my
fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my
fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no
more.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and wrath were poured out on the residents of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’
And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
“
Moreover,” said the women, “when we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ knowledge that we made
sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all those of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no
more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
They will
chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense though it may be, for they are
more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
There shall be no
more praise of Moab: in
Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O
Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
There is no longer praise for Moab; in
Heshbon they
devise evil against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from nationhood.’ You too, O people of
Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.
O vine of Sibmah, I will
weep for thee with the
weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the
spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy
vintage.
I will
weep for you, O vine of Sibmah,
more than I
weep for Jazer. Your tendrils have extended to the sea; they reach even to Jazer. The destroyer has descended on your summer fruit and
grape harvest.
Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
In Moab, declares the LORD, I will bring an end to those who make offerings on the high places and burn incense to their gods.
Concerning
Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no
more in Teman? is counsel perished from the
prudent? is their wisdom
vanished?
Concerning
Edom, this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the
prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?
But I have made
Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is
spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
But I will strip
Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, and he will be unable to
conceal himself. His descendants will be destroyed along with his relatives and neighbors, and he will be no
more.
Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
So the desert creatures and
hyenas will live there and ostriches will dwell there. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.
And I will
punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath
swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any
more unto him:
yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
I will
punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him
spew out what he
swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans
brake, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no
more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
Her
dignitaries were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies were
more ruddy than
rubies, their appearance like sapphires.
They
cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and
wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no
more sojourn there.
“Go away! Unclean!” men
shouted at them. “Away, away! Do not touch us!” So they fled and
wandered. Among the nations it was said, “They can stay here no longer.”
The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.
The presence of the LORD has scattered them; He regards them no more. The priests are shown no honor; the elders find no favor.
The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of
Zion; he will no
more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of
Edom; he will discover thy sins.
O Daughter of
Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not
prolong your exile. But He will
punish your iniquity, O Daughter of
Edom; He will
expose your sins.
Our fathers
sinned and are no
more, but we bear their punishment.
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “eat what you find here. Eat this
scroll, then go and speak to the house of Israel.”
