I have set
watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor
night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,
On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have posted
watchmen; they will never be silent day or
night. You who call on the LORD shall take no rest for
yourselves,
Which remain among the graves, and
lodge in the monuments, which eat
swine’s flesh, and
broth of
abominable things is in their vessels;
Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
Rise up, let us attack by night and destroy her fortresses!’”
Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might
weep day and

weep day and
night over the slain daughter of my people.
O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a
wayfaring man that turneth aside to
tarry for a
night?
O Hope of Israel, its
Savior in times of distress, why are You like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who stays but a
night?
Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears
night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very
grievous blow.
You are to speak this word to them: ‘My eyes overflow with tears; day and
night they do not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people has been
shattered by a
crushing blow, a severely
grievous wound.
Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and
night; where I will not
shew you favour.
So I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’
Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by
night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof
roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day, who sets in order the moon and stars for light by
night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves
roar—the LORD of Hosts is His name:
Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
“This is what the LORD says: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night cease to occupy their appointed time,

Therefore thus saith the LORD of
Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the

Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne, and his body will be thrown out and exposed to heat by day and
frost by
night.
And it came to pass, that when
Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by
night, by the way of the king’s garden, by the gate

If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some
gleaning grapes? if
thieves by
night, they will destroy till they have enough.
If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings? Were
thieves to come in the
night, would they not
steal only what they wanted?
Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
She weepeth
sore in the
night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt
treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.

aloud in the
night, with tears upon her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have
betrayed her; they have become her enemies.

cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a river day and
night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.

Arise, cry out in the
night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the
night from the first watch of the
night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.

Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by
night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great sea.
Daniel declared: “In my vision in the
night I looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were
churning up the great sea.
After this I saw in the
night visions, and behold a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it
devoured and
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was
diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
After this, as I watched in my vision in the
night, suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was
terrifying—
dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It
devoured and
crushed; then it
trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

oven, whiles they lie in wait: their
baker sleepeth all the
night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all
night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is
withholden from the house of your God.

sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the altar. Come,
spend the
night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink offerings are
withheld from the house of your God.
Blow ye the
trumpet in
Zion, and sound an
alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land
tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is
nigh at hand;

Zion; sound the
alarm on My holy mountain! Let all who dwell in the land
tremble, for the Day of the LORD is coming; indeed, it is near—
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and
Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with
night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
He who made the
Pleiades and
Orion, who turns darkness into
dawn and darkens day into
night, who
summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth— the LORD is His name—
If
thieves came to thee, if robbers by
night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have
stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

night— oh, how you will be ruined— would they not
steal only what they wanted? If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings?

sprang up in a
night and perished in a
night.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

divination. The sun will set on these prophets, and the
daylight will turn black over them.

sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by
night, and
steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last
deception would be worse than the first.”
