Then there arose and went
over by number twelve of Benjamin, which
pertained to
Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
So they got up and were counted off—twelve for Benjamin and
Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.
And
Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed
over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to
Mahanaim.
And all that night
Abner and his men marched through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all morning, and arrived at
Mahanaim.
Then was
Abner very
wroth for the words of
Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do
shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
Abner was
furious over Ish-bosheth’s
accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been
loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you
accuse me of
wrongdoing with this woman!
To
translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David
over Israel and
over Judah, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba.
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David
over Israel and Judah, from
Dan to
Beersheba.”
And
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.
Then
Abner sent messengers in his place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel
over to you.”
And
Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king
over you:
Now
Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, “In the past you sought David as your king.
And
Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign
over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent
Abner away; and he went in peace.
Then
Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule
over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed
Abner, and he went in peace.
Let it rest on the head of
Joab, and on all his father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of
Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a
leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.
May it
whirl over the heads of
Joab and the entire house of his father, and may the house of
Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”
Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into
fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people
wept again
over him.
Your hands were not bound, your feet were not
fettered. As a man falls before the wicked, so also you fell.” And all the people
wept over him even more.
And David commanded his young men, and they
slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and
hanged them up
over the
pool in
Hebron. But they took the head of
Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the
sepulchre of
Abner in
Hebron.
So David commanded his young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the
pool in
Hebron, but they took the head of
Ish-bosheth and buried it in
Abner’s tomb in
Hebron.
Also in time past, when Saul was king
over us, thou
wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain
over Israel.
Even in times past, while Saul was king
over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them back. And to you the LORD said, ‘You will
shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler
over them.’”
So all the elders of Israel came to the king to
Hebron; and king David made a league with them in
Hebron before the LORD: and they
anointed David king
over Israel.
So all the elders of Israel came to the king at
Hebron, where King David made with them a covenant before the LORD. And they
anointed him king
over Israel.
In
Hebron he reigned
over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years
over all Israel and Judah.
In
Hebron he reigned
over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years
over all Israel and Judah.
And David perceived that the LORD had established him king
over Israel, and that he had
exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king
over Israel and had
exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
But when the Philistines heard that they had
anointed David king
over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
When the Philistines heard that David had been
anointed king
over Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went down to the
stronghold.
And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but
fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them
over against the
mulberry trees.
So David inquired of the LORD, who answered, “Do not march straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the
balsam trees.
And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to
appoint me ruler
over the people of the LORD,
over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
But David said to Michal, “I was dancing before the LORD, who chose me
over your father and all his house when He appointed me ruler
over the LORD’s people Israel. I will
celebrate before the LORD,
Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler
over my people,
over Israel:
Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you.
And let thy name be
magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God
over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.
so that Your name will be
magnified forever when it is said, ‘The LORD of Hosts is God
over Israel.’ And the house of Your servant David will be established before You.
And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.
Thus David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people:
And
Joab the son of Zeruiah was
over the host; and
Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;
Joab son of Zeruiah was
over the army;
Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief rulers.
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites; and David’s sons were priestly leaders.
And the princes of the children of
Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to
spy it out, and to
overthrow it?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Has not David instead sent his servants to
explore the city,
spy it out, and
overthrow it?”
And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed
over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in
array against David, and fought with him.
When this was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, and went to Helam. Then the Arameans
arrayed themselves against David and fought against him.
And the
messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.
The
messenger said to David, “The men
overpowered us and came out against us in the field, but we drove them back to the entrance of the gate.
Then David said unto the
messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto
Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and
overthrow it: and
encourage thou him.
And when the
mourning was past, David sent and
fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
And when the time of
mourning was
over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the LORD.
And he shall restore the lamb
fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no
pity.
Because he has done this thing and has shown no
pity, he must pay for the lamb four times
over.”
And
Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I
anointed thee king
over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
Then
Nathan said to David, “You are that man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I
anointed you king
over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
And Amnon was so
vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
Amnon was sick with
frustration over his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed
implausible for him to do anything to her.
And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto
Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
And King David longed to go to
Absalom, for he had been
consoled over Amnon’s death.
And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine
handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that
smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he
slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall
quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
Now the whole clan has risen up against your
maidservant and said, ‘Hand
over the one who struck down his brother, that we may put him to death for the life of the brother whom he killed. Then we will cut off the heir as well!’ So they would
extinguish my one remaining
ember by not preserving my husband’s name or
posterity on the earth.”
And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us
flee; for we shall not else escape from
Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he
overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and
smite the city with the edge of the sword.
And David said to all the servants with him in Jerusalem, “Arise and let us
flee, or we will not escape from
Absalom! We must leave quickly, or he will soon
overtake us,
heap disaster on us, and put the city to the sword.”
And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
“March on then,” said David to Ittai. So Ittai the Gittite marched past with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.
And all the country
wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed
over: the king also himself passed
over the
brook Kidron, and all the people passed
over, toward the way of the wilderness.
Everyone in the
countryside was
weeping loudly as all the people passed by. And as the king crossed the Kidron Valley, all the people also passed toward the way of the wilderness.
Then said
Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog
curse my lord the king? let me go
over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
Then
Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog
curse my lord the king? Let me go
over and cut off his head!”
And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side
over against him, and
cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
So David and his men proceeded along the road as Shimei went along the ridge of the hill opposite him. As Shimei went, he
yelled curses, threw stones, and
flung dust at David.
Behold, he is
hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be
overthrown at the first, that
whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow
Absalom.
Surely by now he is hiding in a cave or some other
location. If some of your troops fall first,
whoever hears of it will say, ‘There has been a slaughter among the troops who follow
Absalom.’
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying,
Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass
over; lest the king be
swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
Now send quickly and tell David, ‘Do not
spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but be sure to cross
over. Otherwise the king and all the people with him will be
swallowed up.’”
And the woman took and spread a covering
over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn
thereon; and the thing was not known.
Then the man’s wife took a covering and spread it
over the mouth of the well,
scattering grain
over it so
nobody would know a thing.
And when
Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is
Ahimaaz and
Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone
over the
brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
When
Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house, they asked, “Where are
Ahimaaz and
Jonathan?” “They have crossed
over the
brook,” she replied. The men searched but did not find them, so they returned to Jerusalem.
And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly
over the water: for thus hath
Ahithophel counselled against you.
After the men had gone,
Ahimaaz and
Jonathan climbed up out of the well and went to inform King David, saying, “Get up and cross
over the river at once, for
Ahithophel has given this advice against you.”
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
So David and all the people with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By
daybreak, there was no one left who had not crossed the Jordan.
Then David came to
Mahanaim. And
Absalom passed
over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
Then David went to
Mahanaim, and
Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.
And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
Then David reviewed his troops and appointed over them commanders of hundreds and of thousands.
For the battle was there scattered
over the face of all the country: and the wood
devoured more people that day than the sword
devoured.
The battle spread
over the whole
countryside, and that day the forest
devoured more people than the sword.
And they took
Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great
heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.
They took
Absalom, cast him into a large pit in the forest, and piled a huge
mound of stones
over him. Meanwhile, all the Israelites fled, each to his home.
But
howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then
Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and
overran Cushi.
“No matter what, I want to run!” he replied. “Then run!”
Joab told him. So
Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the
Cushite.
And David sat between the two gates: and the
watchman went up to the roof
over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.
Now David was sitting between the two gates when the
watchman went up to the roof of the
gateway by the wall, looked out, and saw a man running alone.
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber
over the gate, and
wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son
Absalom, my son, my son
Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O
Absalom, my son, my son!
The king was
shaken and went up to the gate chamber and
wept. And as he walked, he
cried out, “O my son
Absalom! My son, my son
Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, O
Absalom, my son, my son!”
And it was told
Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for
Absalom.
And the victory that day was turned into
mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was
grieved for his son.
And that day’s victory was turned into
mourning for all the people, because on that day they were told, “The king is
grieving over his son.”
And
Absalom, whom we
anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?
But
Absalom, the man we
anointed over us, has died in battle. So why do you say nothing about restoring the king?”
So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to
Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king
over Jordan.
So the king returned, and when he arrived at the Jordan, the men of Judah came to
Gilgal to meet him and
escort him across the Jordan.
And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.
along with a thousand men of Benjamin, as well as Ziba the
steward of the house of Saul and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They
rushed down to the Jordan before the king
And there went
over a
ferry boat to carry
over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of
Gera fell down before the king, as he was come
over Jordan;
and crossed at the
ford to carry
over the king’s household and to do what was good in his sight. When Shimei son of
Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell down before the king
And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be
adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king
over Israel?
And David replied, “Sons of Zeruiah, what have I to do with you, that you should be my
adversaries today? Should any man be put to death in Israel
today? Am I not indeed aware that
today I am king
over Israel?”
And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and send him on his way from there.
And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.
The king said to Barzillai, “Cross over with me, and I will provide for you at my side in Jerusalem.”
Thy servant will go a little way
over Jordan with the king: and why should the king
recompense it me with such a reward?
Your servant could go with the king only a short distance past the Jordan; why should the king repay me with such a reward?
Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
Please let your servant return, that I may die in my own city near the tomb of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what is good in your sight.”
And the king answered, Chimham shall go
over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and
whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
The king replied, “Chimham will cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good in your sight, and I will do for you whatever you desire of me.”
And all the people went
over Jordan. And when the king was come
over, the king
kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed
over. The king
kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and Barzillai returned home.
Then the king went on to
Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
Then the king went on to
Gilgal, and Chimham crossed
over with him. All the troops of Judah and half the troops of Israel
escorted the king.
And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah
stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David’s men with him,
over Jordan?
Soon all the men of Israel came to the king and asked, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, take you away secretly and bring the king and his household across the Jordan, together with all of David’s men?”
And
Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the
highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed
Amasa out of the
highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
But
Amasa wallowed in his blood in the middle of the road, and when the man saw that all the troops were
stopping there, he
dragged the body off the road into a field and threw a garment
over it.
The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim,
Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto
Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee
over the wall.
That is not the case. But a man named
Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you
over the wall.”
Now
Joab was
over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was
over the Cherethites and
over the Pelethites:
Now
Joab was
over the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was
over the Cherethites and Pelethites;
And Adoram was
over the tribute: and
Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:
Adoram was in charge of the forced labor;
Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
For by thee I have run through a
troop: by my God have I
leaped over a wall.
For in You I can charge an army; with my God I can scale a wall.
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
The God of Israel spoke; the Rock of Israel said to me, ‘He who rules the people with justice, who rules in the fear of God,
He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.
He was most honored among the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. And David appointed him over his guard.
And
Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many
soever they be, an
hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why
doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
But
Joab replied to the king, “May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times
over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?”
And they passed
over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of
Gad, and toward Jazer:
They crossed the Jordan and camped near Aroer, south of the town in the middle of the valley, and proceeded toward
Gad and Jazer.
So
Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or
wilt thou
flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’
pestilence in thy land? now
advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
So
Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to
endure three years of famine in your land, three months of
fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three days of plague upon your land? Now then, think it
over and decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And let
Zadok the priest and
Nathan the prophet
anoint him there king
over Israel: and blow ye with the
trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.
There
Zadok the priest and
Nathan the prophet are to
anoint him king
over Israel. You are to blow the ram’s horn and declare, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler
over Israel and
over Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
And the days that David reigned
over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in
Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
The length of David’s reign
over Israel was forty years—seven years in
Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room
over the host: and
Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of
Abiathar.
And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in
Joab’s place
over the army, and he appointed
Zadok the priest in
Abiathar’s place.
For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest
over the
brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
On the day you go out and cross the Kidron Valley, know for sure that you will die; your blood will be on your own head.”
And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
During the night this woman’s son died because she rolled over on him.
So king Solomon was king over all Israel.
So King Solomon ruled over Israel,
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was
over the host: and
Zadok and
Abiathar were the priests:
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of the army;
Zadok and
Abiathar were priests;
And
Azariah the son of
Nathan was
over the officers: and Zabud the son of
Nathan was principal officer, and the king’s friend:
And Ahishar was over the household: and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the tribute.
Ahishar was in charge of the palace; and Adoniram son of Abda was in charge of the forced labor.
And Solomon had twelve officers
over all Israel, which provided
victuals for the king and his household: each man his month in a year made provision.
Solomon had twelve governors over all Israel to provide food for the king and his household. Each one would arrange provisions for one month of the year,
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
For Solomon had dominion
over everything west of the Euphrates—
over all the kingdoms from Tiphsah to
Gaza—and he had peace on all sides.
And it came to pass, when
Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he
rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son
over this great people.
When
Hiram received Solomon’s message, he
rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD this day! He has given David a wise son
over this great people!”
And he sent them to
Lebanon ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in
Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was
over the
levy.
He sent them to
Lebanon in monthly shifts of 10,000 men, so that they would
spend one month in
Lebanon and two months at home. And Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor.
Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
And it came to pass in the four hundred and
eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign
over Israel, in the month
Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
In the four hundred and
eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt, in the month of Ziv, the second month of the fourth year of Solomon’s reign
over Israel, he began to build the house of the LORD.
And the
oracle in the
forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he
overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of
cedar.
The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He
overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also
overlaid the altar of
cedar.
So Solomon
overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the
oracle; and he
overlaid it with gold.
So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.
And the whole house he
overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the
oracle he
overlaid with gold.
So he overlaid with gold the whole interior of the temple, until everything was completely finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
He also
overlaid the
cherubim with gold.
