Let them
melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in
pieces.
May they
vanish like water that runs off; when they draw the bow, may their arrows be
blunted.
Rebuke the company of
spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the
calves of the people, till every one submit himself with
pieces of silver:
scatter thou the people that delight in war.
Rebuke the beast in the reeds, the
herd of bulls among the
calves of the nations, until it submits, bringing bars of silver.
Scatter the nations who delight in war.

needy, and shall break in
pieces the
oppressor.

leviathan in
pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

Rahab in
pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
The law from Your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.

whorish woman a man is brought to a
piece of bread: and the
adulteress will
hunt for the precious life.

piece of bread that man will
transgress.
To show
partiality is not good, yet a man will do wrong for a
piece of bread.
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a
piece of a
pomegranate within thy locks.
As a
piece of a
pomegranate are thy temples within thy locks.
Solomon had a
vineyard at
Baal-
hamon; he let out the
vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand
pieces of silver.
Solomon had a
vineyard in
Baal-
hamon. He
leased it to the tenants. For its fruit, each was to bring a thousand shekels of silver.
What mean ye that ye beat my people to
pieces, and
grind the faces of the poor? saith the LORD GOD of hosts.
Why do you
crush My people and
grind the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Associate
yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in
pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries:
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in
pieces;
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in
pieces.
Their children also shall be
dashed to
pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be
spoiled, and their wives
ravished.
Their infants will be
dashed to
pieces before their eyes, their houses will be
looted, and their wives will be
ravished.
Their bows also shall
dash the young men to
pieces; and they shall have no
pity on the fruit of the
womb; their eye shall not
spare children.
Their bows will
dash young men to
pieces; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the
womb; they will not look with
pity on the children.
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in
pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
I will go before thee, and make the
crooked places straight: I will break in
pieces the gates of brass, and cut in
sunder the bars of iron:
“I will go before you and level the mountains; I will break down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut
Rahab, and wounded the
dragon?
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD.
Wake up as in days past, as in generations of old. Was it not You who cut
Rahab to
pieces, who pierced through the
dragon?
Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall
slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall
spoil them, a
leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be
torn in
pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Therefore a lion from the forest will strike them down, a wolf from the desert will
ravage them. A
leopard will lie in wait near their cities, and
everyone who ventures out will be
torn to
pieces. For their
rebellious acts are many, and their unfaithful deeds are numerous.
Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
“Is not My word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that smashes a rock?”
And I will give the men that have
transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the
calf in
twain, and passed between the parts thereof,
And those who have
transgressed My covenant and have not fulfilled the terms of the covenant they made before Me, I will treat like the
calf they cut in two in order to pass between its
pieces.
The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the
calf;
The officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the court officials, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the
pieces of the
calf,
Then
Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a
piece of bread out of the bakers street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
So King
Zedekiah gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the
courtyard of the guard and given a
loaf of bread daily from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the
courtyard of the guard.
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in
pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in
pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in
pieces.’
Thou art my battle
axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in
pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I
shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
And with thee will I break in
pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in
pieces the
chariot and his rider;
With thee also will I break in
pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in
pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in
pieces the young man and the
maid;
I will also break in
pieces with thee the
shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in
pieces the
husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in
pieces captains and rulers.
He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in
pieces: he hath made me
desolate.
He forced me off my path and
tore me to
pieces; He left me without help.
Then said I,
Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been
polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is
torn in
pieces; neither came there
abominable flesh into my mouth.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I have never
defiled myself. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything found dead or
mauled by wild beasts. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth.”
And will ye
pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for
pieces of bread, to
slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
You have
profaned Me among My people for handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to My people who would
listen, you have killed those who should not have died and
spared those who should not have lived.
They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
They will bring a
mob against you, who will stone you and cut you to
pieces with their swords.
Thou shalt even drink it and
suck it out, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and
pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
You will drink it and
drain it; you will
dash it to
pieces, and
tear your breasts. For I have spoken,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Gather the
pieces thereof into it, even every good
piece, the
thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.
Put in the
pieces of meat, every good
piece—
thigh and shoulder— fill it with choice bones.
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the
bloody city, to the pot whose
scum is therein, and whose
scum is not gone out of it! bring it out
piece by
piece; let no lot fall up on it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘
Woe to the city of
bloodshed, to the pot now
rusted, whose
rust will not come off! Empty it
piece by
piece; cast no lots for its contents.
The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in
pieces, and your houses shall be made a
dunghill.
The king replied to the astrologers, “My word is final: If you do not tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be cut into
pieces and your houses will be reduced to
rubble.
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which
smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and
brake them to
pieces.
As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and
crushed them.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to
pieces together, and became like the
chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that
smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Then the iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold were
shattered and became like
chaff on the
threshing floor in summer. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that had struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in
pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in
pieces and
bruise.
Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; for iron
shatters and crushes all things, and like iron that crushes all things, it will
shatter and
crush all the others.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in
pieces and
consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will
shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand
forever.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it
brake in
pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it
shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is
trustworthy.”
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing
amiss against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, shall be cut in
pieces, and their houses shall be made a
dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything offensive against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego will be cut into
pieces and their houses reduced to
rubble. For there is no other god who can deliver in this way.”
And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the
mastery of them, and
brake all their bones in
pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
At the command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and
crushed all their bones.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it
devoured and
brake in
pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was
diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was
terrifying—
dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It
devoured and
crushed; then it
trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was
diverse from all the others, exceeding
dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his
nails of brass; which
devoured,
brake in
pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others—extremely
terrifying—
devouring and
crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, then
trampling underfoot whatever was left.
Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be
diverse from all kingdoms, and shall
devour the whole earth, and shall
tread it down, and break it in
pieces.
This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, different from all the other kingdoms, and it will
devour the whole earth,
trample it down, and
crush it.
So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley.
For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will
tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall
rescue him.
For I am like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will
tear them to
pieces and then go away. I will carry them off where no one can
rescue them.
Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath
torn, and he will
heal us; he hath
smitten, and he will bind us up.
Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has
torn us to
pieces, but He will
heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bind up our wounds.
For from Israel was it also: the
workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the
calf of Samaria shall be broken in
pieces.
For this thing is from Israel— a
craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to
pieces, that
calf of Samaria.
Therefore shall a
tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be
spoiled, as Shalman
spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was
dashed in
pieces upon her children.
the
roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be
demolished as Shalman
devastated Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when mothers were
dashed to
pieces along with their children.
Samaria shall become
desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be
dashed in
pieces, and their women with child shall be
ripped up.
Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be
dashed to
pieces, and their
pregnant women
ripped open.
Thus saith the LORD; As the
shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a
piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a
couch.
This is what the LORD says: “As the
shepherd snatches from the mouth of the lion two legs or a
piece of an ear, so the Israelites dwelling in Samaria will be
rescued having just the corner of a bed or the
cushion of a
couch.
And also I have
withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one
piece was rained upon, and the
piece whereupon it rained not
withered.
“I also
withheld the rain from you when the harvest was three months away. I sent rain on one city but
withheld it from another. One field received rain; another without rain
withered.
For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will
smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
For the LORD gives a command: “The great house will be
smashed to
pieces, and the small house to
rubble.”
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to
pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved images will be
smashed to
pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
Who also eat the flesh of my people, and
flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and
chop them in
pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the
caldron.
You eat the flesh of my people after
stripping off their skin and breaking their bones. You
chop them up like flesh for the
cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”
Arise and
thresh, O daughter of
Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thy
hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in
pieces many people: and I will
consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth.
Rise and
thresh, O Daughter of
Zion, for I will give you horns of iron and
hooves of bronze to break to
pieces many peoples. Then you will
devote their gain to the LORD, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in
pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
He that dasheth in
pieces is come up before thy face: keep the
munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong,
fortify thy power
mightily.
The lion did
tear in
pieces enough for his whelps, and
strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with
ravin.
Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were
dashed in
pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Yet she became an exile; she went into captivity. Her infants were
dashed to
pieces at the head of every street. They cast lots for her
dignitaries, and all her nobles were bound in chains.
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not,
forbear. So they
weighed for my price thirty
pieces of silver.
Then I told them, “If it seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” So they
weighed out my wages, thirty
pieces of silver.
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the
potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty
pieces of silver, and cast them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the
potter”—this magnificent price at which they valued me. So I took the thirty
pieces of silver and threw them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
For, lo, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor
heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and
tear their claws in
pieces.
For behold, I will raise up a
shepherd in the land who will neither care for the lost, nor seek the young, nor
heal the broken, nor
sustain the healthy, but he will
devour the flesh of the choice sheep and
tear off their
hooves.
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a
burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in
pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
On that day, when all the nations of the earth gather against her, I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who would
heave it away will be severely injured.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before
swine, lest they
trample them under their feet, and turn again and
rend you.
Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before
swine. If you do, they may
trample them under their feet, and then turn and
tear you to
pieces.
No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
No one sews a
patch of
unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the
patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse
tear will result.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken
pieces that were left over.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up seven
basketfuls of broken
pieces that were left over.
Notwithstanding, lest we should
offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a
piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
“But so that we may not
offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-
drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
He who falls on this stone will be broken to
pieces, but he on whom it falls will be
crushed.”
Then he will cut him to
pieces and
assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be
weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself, and brought again the thirty
pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
When
Judas, who had
betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with
remorse and returned the thirty
pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
And he cast down the
pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and
hanged himself.
So
Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and
hanged himself.
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
The chief priests
picked up the
pieces of silver and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on Him by the people of Israel,
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
No one sews a
patch of
unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new
piece will pull away from the old, and a worse
tear will result.
Because that he had been often bound with
fetters and chains, and the chains had been
plucked asunder by him, and the
fetters broken in
pieces: neither could any man
tame him.
Though he was often bound with chains and
shackles, he had broken the chains and
shattered the
shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to
subdue him.
And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken
pieces of bread and fish.
So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
The people
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up seven
basketfuls of broken
pieces that were left over.
When I
brake the five
loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
When I broke the five
loaves for the five thousand, how many
basketfuls of broken
pieces did you collect?” “Twelve,” they answered.
And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
“And when I broke the seven
loaves for the four thousand, how many
basketfuls of broken
pieces did you collect?” “Seven,” they said.
And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
He also told them a parable: “No one tears a
piece of cloth from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will
tear the new garment as well, and the
patch from the new will not
match the old.
And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
They all
ate and were satisfied, and the disciples
picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken
pieces that were left over.
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in
sunder, and will
appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not
anticipate. Then he will cut him to
pieces and
assign him a place with the unbelievers.
And they all with one consent began to make
excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a
piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me
excused.
But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first one said, ‘I have bought a field, and I need to go see it. Please
excuse me.’
Either what woman having ten
pieces of silver, if she lose one
piece,
doth not light a
candle, and
sweep the house, and seek
diligently till she find it?
Or what woman who has ten silver coins and loses one of them does not light a lamp,
sweep her house, and search carefully until she finds it?
And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying,
Rejoice with me; for I have found the
piece which I had lost.
And when she finds it, she calls together her friends and neighbors to say, ‘
Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost coin.’
And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a
napkin:
Then another servant came and said, ‘Master, here is your
mina, which I have laid away in a
piece of cloth.
Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to
pieces, but he on whom it falls will be
crushed.”
So they gave Him a
piece of
broiled fish,
Philip answered him, Two hundred
pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
Philip answered, “Two hundred
denarii would not
buy enough bread for each of them to have a small
piece.”
When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
And when
everyone was full, He said to His disciples, “Gather the
pieces that are left over, so that nothing will be wasted.”
Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley
loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the
pieces of the five barley
loaves left over by those who had eaten.
Then the soldiers, when they had
crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without
seam,
woven from the top throughout.
When the soldiers had
crucified Jesus, they divided His garments into four parts, one for each soldier, with the
tunic remaining. It was
seamless,
woven in one
piece from top to bottom.
But a certain man named
Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Now a man named
Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a
piece of property.
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of
everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas.
